  • Support for Windows 2008 R2 in vCenter Server 2.5 U4 and 4.0

I'll have no problem creating models in both versions of vCenter Server. The question arises when you try to deploy the model to the Customization Wizard help. Under 4.0, it immediately comes up as not supported (7 64 windows server). Minus 2.5 U4, there is no tag for Windows 2008 R2 OS.

Support for this OS will be released in a next update on both vCenter servers (specifically the Customization Wizard)?

Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2 is not supported with vSphere yet but experimental and should be supported subsequently released but they're working on it. You can run the wizard of customization with Windows 2008 however, here's how the instructions http://vinf.net/2009/07/09/how-to-deploy-a-windows-2008-server-from-a-template-with-vsphere/

  • XP Home RDP for Windows 2008 Server Dot4 port printer not redirect

Any ideas on how to get this to work?

If you use a printer on a local system and expect to see door through the connection of the DRC for the Terminal Server services system, I think that you will need to have the printer driver installed on the server.  We get only Windows Server 2008 systems, where I work, but for Windows Server 2003, what I described was necessary.  So that my local printers appear in my Terminal Server session, I needed to have the printer drivers installed on the server.

The driver works for Windows 2008 Server R2.  I just need to find the drivers for the wireless card.

  • What NIC for Windows 2008?  E1000 or VMXNET 3?

In ESXi 4, Windows 2008 SMV seem to want the E1000 NIC model by default when you create a new. However, after reading the KB on this (http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1001805), is seems the 3 new VMXNET is supported for Windows 2008 (and Windows 2003 for that matter).

So, what is the best to use? It seems the VMXNET it the best choice because it has all the latest bells and whistles - but sometimes it's a bad thing also. The KB does not really say what to use, but rather what options are available... unless I forgot.

    Any advice?

    SB

WARNING: I have worked directly on Vmxnet3, so I'm probably biased.

I advise to use Vmxnet3. More than a simple saw the latest bells and whistles, his overhead is also smaller than e1000 (and therefore its performance are better) and perennial is that further improvements to virtualization will apply permanently above this one. The device was tested intensively for months and the drivers that we provide are of high quality.

I understand the reluctance to use a completely new device, but you will not be disappointed if you give it a try.

  • Compatibility of readers for Windows Home Server 2011

I do a home new construction of a system for Windows Home Server 2011 64-bit and I use a box of the computer with 7 bays for hard drives. I would like to use several new hard drives in raid 10, I have on hand combining with disks of the same capacity, but with different brands and different speeds: two Hitachi 2 TB 5930 TPM, a 2 TB Seagate 7200 RPM hard drive coupled with a Western Digital 2 hard drive 7200 RPM to, then two 1.5 to Hitachi 7200 RPM hard drives paired together.  These pairings using the Windows Home Server 2011 will be able to use the full capacity of all readers, that I propose to match or it will use as a record 1.5 to? In the hard drive Bay 7, that I intend to use a hard disk for the Windows Home Server 2011 operating system and I need to know if the capacity of the hard drive must be the same as the other drives to preserve the full capacity of my storage drives, or can I use a smaller disk as a 300 GB WD drive for the operating system? Is it necessary that all disks in raid 10 for having the same capacity and speed in order to maintain the total capacity of all drives? Thank you.

  • How can I have my client Win8 continue to be supported by Windows Home Server v1?

I've updated from Windows 7 to Windows 8, and now my Windows Home Server v1 cannot back up my laptop. The connector software complains about volume errors and complains about the ESM may not take a snapshot of the customer volume. Help, please!

None of the two versions of Windows Home Server can back up systems of Windows 8. The first version of WHS is no longer supported and probably will not be updated to add this support.  Windows Home Server 2011 can be updated, the last word of Microsoft on this subject was "Stay Tuned!"

If you want a definitive answer, post it in the Windows Home Server support forums.
