iSCSI vs. FC

Hello

Please help me understand points below.

-Order of the box as clarion EMC 480 a iSCSI and FC drives or it is based on our storage requirement engineers

-What hardware/software requiement for iSCSI. Help understanding on the plan such as CF where we need a fiber such as Brocade, HBA switch on the end of the host and the fiber cable

-Are there different types of iSCSI

-When do we use CF or when we use iSCSI

-What types of RAID are used on the end of storage

-Basis on which RAID types are determined.

Help, please

Thank you

Amul

(1) depends on how order you.

(2) at a minimum, you need an ethernet switch.  Best to get 2 for redundancy.  At the end of the host, you can use a classic ethernet port with a dedicated iSCSI integrated to ESX or card iSCSI initiator software.

(3) NO.

(4) depends on performance and cost needs.  CF nearly always surpasses iSCSI, so it depends on how much you need to push and looks like what your budget.

(5) based on what you need - different arrays have different abilities and strengths.

(6) still depends on needs of cost and performance - what is your goal?  If you run a hige file server who earns 1 access per day, RAID5 might be your best choice.  If you use a database that handles 17 000 requests per second, so you probably need RAID10.

  • iSCSI with armOS5.3.11 v2 Readynas NV +.

    Hi all

I have a Readynas NV + v2 (RND4000v2), armOS5.3.11 and I would like to create an iSCSI target. I can't see any menu on the iSCSI service. I can't upgrade to OS6 (I find a lot of guide to do this with OS6, but none with os5).

    Please can someone help me?

    Thanks in advance

    Concerning

    Davide

Unfortunately the nv + v2 firmware does not support the iSCSI (and you cannot load OS6 on the platform either)

So if you need this, I think that you will need a new SIN.

  • Mount iSCSI file in OS6 OS4

I recently ran the upgrade of the community on my ReadyNAS Pro 6 for ReadyNas OS 6.

    I am running firmware 6.5.0 - T338.

I know that my device is support, so I hope someone would be kind enough to help me out here.

Of OS4, I supported files real iSCSI which are found in /c/.iscsi/* with the file ietd.conf in/etc.

Upgrade to OS6, the iSCSI subsystem seems completely revamped, but I was hoping to get records of iSCSI to extract some data off them, or even to present as an iSCSI target to migrate data off them.

If someone could provide a suggestion or some advice, I would really apprecaite it.

I'm still open to running a Virtual Machine with ReadyNas OS4, if someone could tell me how to get there.

    Thank you.

  • 'Convert' part in LUN for iSCSI access

    Hi all

I used my RN2120 as a SMB share for my exclusive Microserver HP for the content to Plex. I have now come to install a double extra NIC in my server and I would like to use the ReadyNAS as iSCSI storage.

What I can't work, is to "convert" my SMB on a LUN sharing for access via iSCSI.

Someone at - it an idea? Or should I return my data (~ 5TB) on my server, delete the share, create the LUN and bring back the data? #fingerscrosseditsnotthissolution

    Thank you very much

    Carl...

There is for example a NTFS file system THAT put on the iSCSI LUN

You will need to copy the data to your PC, delete off the coast of the NAS, create the iSCSI target and copy the data back.

If all the data you have, then after copying data off isn't 5 TB of data you can update the firmware, verify that the update of the firmware successfully, do a factory reset, create the iSCSI target, install it on your PC using the initiator and restore your backup data.

  • How to set iSCSI CHAP Username with OS6

    Hello.

I upgraded my loan NAS Pro 4 to OS6 ready (thanks to Netgear, great support!) and want to use CHAP on my iSCSI on debian virtual computer connection. Before with OS4, I can put some user name with OS6 I don't find something to set it. Somewhere I must have missed the adjustment necessary.

    See you soon,.

    Hi augur.

The user name is the same as the name of the local initiator system defined by your initiator iSCSI or one known as IQN (name of the initiator). Try and tell me if it works.

I understand that you forgot your password,

If you have a tool rest of password you use.

or if you have the disk, you can do the recovery.

  • Use of iSCSI as the source for the work of copying using rsync

    How?

A simple task, I have an ix2 - dl in raid 1 and all the space is designated for iSCSI.

Now, I want to back up these data to another NAS using rsync

I looked at the help and didn't see the answer.

I'm not an expert, but I don't think that this is possible. I asked a question a while back on the use of the Mozy backup service to replicate files on a remote server and I was told that the ISCSI disk space is not visible on the Iomega drive so that you can transfer the data. I was told that you must back up the PC that has the ISCSI drive. For me, it was unacceptable, since the ISCSI drive was on my laptop and I could be anywhere. Then the data must leave my NAS, trip to my PC (everywhere where I am, maybe with a low bandwidth) and will then travel to the remote server (i.e. Mozy). • ID mapping session Iscsi MPIO path

    Hello

I'm playing ISCSI with MPIO. I get the connection information iscsi of the cmdlet "Get-IscsiConnection". It gives the target portals to which the initiator is connected. Then I have the mpclaim - v command which gives me the current state of the railways. In my case, I have an active/optimized path and other avenues of relief. This information on mpio path statements is shown with regard to the path ID. I want a way to find out what connection/target portal is this track Id matches. In the GUI, tab window mpio initiator iscsi has this information. Is there a way to get this info through PowerShell?

    Hi Brainojack

Please refer to the below provided links and check if the provided versions help you. -

    http://www.Microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/technologies/storage/iSCSI/default.mspx

But it does not seem you can get versions older than those set forth above. So I suggest you use your favorite search engine search for third party links that can provide you the version you need.

  • Win 2008 Server iSCSI San installation

Hi, Im trying to install win server 2008 on a discovered iscsi lun. To do that I need to load my kmdf basic bus driver and one pilot iscsi initiator additional in order to discover the LUNs during installation.

Win 2008 has 1.7 kmdf library by default. So to install 1.9 kmdf library in it, I added the Windows6 package. 0-KB970158 - x 86 .cab in the install.wim file. With this, the installation is complete. But when the operating system starts for the first time, my bus kmdf driver does not load completely. Only the Driverentry routine is called. EvtAddDevice routine is not called. So, accordingly, I see a BSOD saying that boot partition not found. Any kind of suspicion would be useful.
