  I use a Torch 9800 and I have a message icon in the notification bar little between the profile and the search selector, but I have no message.  I have no voice message that I have not listened, no messages unread from facebook or emails, no missed calls, nothing I can see that would not create the icon small envelope of the message and if I click on it it does not show that I have no message - only my calendar entries.  This happened a month ago and then went there, so I have now 2 messages showing still 2 days but no messages that is so irritating.  Nonetheless, not my phone just irritation from work or something horrible like that, because I think I got a message when I have actually not all unread messages.  I also tried restarting several times, but then the 1st thing I see when it restarts is these 2 stupid messages that do not exist.

  If anyone has any bright ideas to get rid of the icons, please let me know.

  Try to go into your main message folder, and then press the BB Menu key. Select search by > advanced. In the section named "Display", select the option to view unread only (default value is sent and received). Then click on search.

  That should show you all of your unread messages that will allow you to erase all messages that cause these notifications.

  You can remove the program from the taskbar and check if that helps. To remove a program pinned to the taskbar, open the jump list for the program, and then click remove this program from the taskbar.

  The windows update icon does not appear in my system tray even though it has listed updates that have not yet been installed.  The icon was there for August update patches. I usually do not install the patches each month all at once, but I install them in small groups.  August I broke them into 3 groups.  The icon showed before installing the first group, but never showed after the installation of this group.   Please provide a copy of your system information file.   It can be disappointing when all the icons on the desktop and Menu start modified in a dat file. I understand the inconvenience.

  You can try to rebuild the icon cache and check if it works properly.

  Click Start, click Control Panel, and write in the box search folders options.
  b. now, click on Folder Options to open and select folders and hidden files (dot).
  c. open a Windows Explorer window.
  d. go to C:\Users\(User Name) \AppData\Local
  e. right click on IconCache.db and click on delete.
  f. click Yes to confirm the deletion.
  NOTE: This deletes the file to the trash. It is safe to empty the trash when you are done.
  g. close the window.
  h. emptying the trash.
  i. restart the computer.
  j. When you come back, you will notice the size of the file IconCache.db is reduced, and the update is now the current date.
  NOTE: If for some reason, IconCache.db isn't there or the size has not changed, then you can just restart the computer again. You may need to restart a few times in some cases.
  k. icon cache will be rebuilt.
