iTunes library on NAS shared with every Mac.

Okey, so I saw a lot of info on iTunes on a NAS share and I have read tons and tons of messages without a complete solution.

So that's what I have today;

1 Macbook Pro 15 "

2 Macbook Pro 13 "

1 mini Mac (connected to my Samsung TV and the stereo downstairs)

1 NAS Synology 216 readers to play with 2x3GB

Remote-app on my iOS devices so that I can change the music on the stereo without a computer

Everything is connected to the same WiFi of course

I want to spend my whole library iTunes into ONE on the NAS and then I want to

(1) in order to access all the music on all computers

2 (a) be able to add more music

(b) sometimes I need to change the title of a song/album details may change the genre or add words etc.

iTunes on the NAS server is to create.

I compiled all the music in a library on the Macbook pro 15 "and used the following settings in iTunes under Advanced

-Keep iTunes Media folder organized

-Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library

-Sharing iTUnes library XML with other applications

Also changed genres and all about the songs/albums to make everything as I want

Moved the folder iTunes with everything on the NAS in music/iTunes

And hold the ALT key when starting iTunes and then I choose the music/iTunes and then it took a few minutes and asked if he should copy all files

so I said yes here.

Now, it seems that I can share all the music on the NAS, but I can't

1) click a song and change its genres, etc album name when I add the new music

QUESTIONS

So is it possible that I missed something, so why can't I just edit?

Should I hold the ALT key and the library directly in NAS server folder and let them copy all files on the Mac Mini and the 2 13 "Macbook Pro is as well?

Anyone who has this problem?

  • Problems with iTunes library shared between 2 computers

I have a rather unique situation where I have a single iTunes library that is shared by both computers. It has worked well for years, until lately. Here is my configuration:

    • Mac iMac server software. All my music is on a USB drive 3 TB (named 'music'), attached to the mac. Its static IP address is 192.168.1.15.
    • MacBook Air. This computer connects to the iMac on the LAN, where the iTunes library lives, as well as all the music.

Each computer is running OS X 10.11.2. All I have to do is to make sure that iTunes is left on a mac, before I start it on the other.

The problem that happens lately, is that on the iMac, for some songs (not all), when I try to play them, he tries to access it through the network on its own IP address, which gives an error that it cannot connect to the server at 192.168.1.15. It's like the iTunes on the iMac it'S the iTunes on the Macbook Air, if it tries to access music on the network, on himself.

iTunes works fine on the Macbook Air, but I noticed sometimes when I play iTunes, it mounts a second instance of hard drive of the music, because I see in a finder window that it is connected to the iMac and also connected to 192.168.1.15 (IP address of the iMac).

I opened the iTunes library XML file and noticed that there are a bunch of songs which the path is "/ volumes/music-1/musicfolder/songname.mp3", but most were "/ volumes/music/musicfolder/songname.mp3". So I did a search and replace for 'music-1' to change it to just "music". This does not seem to make any difference with the problem, and when I have opened the XML file, I saw that iTunes had sprinkled in a lot of instances 'music-1' again.

    So my question is:

How to return to the iMac looking for its music files locally, instead of through the LAN, on its own IP address? If the path in the XML file is "/ volumes/music/musicfolder/songname.mp3", which then determines whether iTunes search for this path locally or via the LAN? Is this info in the iTunes library. ITL file?

    Help! Thank you.

iTunes creates the .xml for other applications to use. The .xml content 90% reflect the content of the .itl. iTunes uses only the .itl.  If you want the .itl update changes in the .xml, you need to delete (or remove) the .itl, then launch iTunes. It will start with an empty library, and then you import the .xml. Note This will deliver the game counts to zero, delete all the logs and reset the date of addition to our days.  By doing what you have just used iTunes the .itl as usual and has replaced the .xml as it usually does, with the same credentials as before.

I don't know the cause of the problem or the real nature of it.  It can be by using the server software is at the origin of this.  iTunes is not really set up for connections to the server of fancy, simple old external hard drives.  Usually when I see this kind of question on the forum it is because someone uses a library on a NAS.

  • Home of the iTunes sharing works on Mac, not on iOS

    Hello

I'm trying to use home sharing to play music from the iTunes library on my Mac on my iOS devices, but it does not work. The devices that I use are a Mac Mini Sierra, who has my iTunes library, a 5 c with iOS 10.0.2, iPhone an iPad 2 running iOS 9.3.5 and a MacBook Pro 2011 Sierra running. I have iTunes running on the Mac Mini, with home sharing enabled. The MacBook Pro, I can see and play the shared library. I am connected to the same on all devices iCloud account, and I am connected to home sharing within the parameters of the music on the two devices with the same account. All devices are connected to the same WIFI network to a router TP-Link Archer C7. On the iPhone with iOS 10, home sharing must be one of my options when you click the library, but it is not. On the iPad with iOS 9.3.5, home sharing should appear in the dropdown at the top of the screen my music, but it does not appear. I tried to turn home sharing and turn it back on to the host computer, turning home sharing and turn it back on client devices, restart the host computer and restart client iOS devices. In addition, I tried this on a 4th generation iPod Touch (does not work) and MacBook Air my wife (works). Why is it not this work for my iOS devices?

I thought about it. In addition to activating iTunes home sharing preferences on the host computer, you must also go to file > home sharing > turn on home sharing and enter your iTunes account information. I doesn't make sense to me that you would have to enable home sharing on two different places to do work with different types of devices, and there is no explanation for this data in the documentation I've seen.

  • iTunes library to external hard drive works on pc and mac

    Hello world

I have 1 pc and mac 2. I also use the music library to icloud. However, it depends on the internet connection.

so, I was wondering if I can put the "itunes library" file on each laptop, the "itunes media" while on the external hard drive?

My idea is to use an external hard drive whenever I want to use the laptop. so I don't need to broadcast through library icloud music. Moreover, I need an external hard drive and itunes library to work on pc and mac.

    Cheers!

  • Rich project shared with IO Library?

I have an application that needs to share resources/instruments with TestStand steps.  Requirements require the application to communicate with these resources/instruments with or without leaving the engine of TestStand.

I understand that the suggested approach is to put ONLY the instrumentation code in a test sequence.  However, what is the best approach if the application conditions dictate the resource or the instrument must be shared?

    • Project packed library can be shared with the operator interface?
    • Is a distribution source, the only option?

    Hey LVB,

Thanks for the information. Based on what I think you are trying to you should be able to do what you are looking for. The reason that the manuals say to not use instrumentation with the interface code user is to preserve the modularity, it is not recommended that you add an instrumentation specific Interfacing to the OI of LabVIEW TestStand as this will make the instrument specific OI. And as long the .exe OI runs will run your instrumentation process, and until your operator selects actually trial USE or simple Pass (or whatever TestStand entry point you choose) the TestStand API will just await you. This example, I think that shows what you need to do the https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-21047.

    I hope this helps.

  • I can't move folders/files in the iTunes library

    Hello

I am reorganizing my iTunes library after the implementation of a server. Even if I used the dialog box in iTunes (Preferences) to move the files, many, many links were broken. There is now a location in the library moved with the following path: X:\iTunes Library\Music\Unknown Artist\Unknown Album. The files in this folder are all parts of the existing albums. The rest of the songs from these albums are properly located in the location of the library, which is to library X:\iTunes. Most of these files is purchased AAC files. The files are not corrupt, by what they play. They also seem to have the correct information, when I look in the Properties dialog box, or query information through read in iTunes. In iTunes, it is ALWAYS the path: X:\iTunes Library\Music\artist\album, with the annexed artist/Album information. For example: X:\iTunes Library\Music\Michael buble\christmas\01 it starts to resemble a large number of Like.m4a. I would like to move these files to their correct locations in X:\iTunes Library\artist\album, as well as the rest of the files in the albums they are detached. When I try to move the files, they are not being apparently copied or moved. If I connect them to the entries in iTunes after the move or double click on it to play in iTunes, they disappear from the new location and reappear in a folder with the path X:\iTunes Library\Music\Unknown Artist\Unknown Album or one with a path like this: X:\iTunes Library\Music. I have no solution to this problem, I have tried everything I know to do to fix and searching newsgroups for a solution. I'm on Win10 and iTunes 12.3.1.23. Help, please. This is driving me crazy.

    Scott D.

The typical reason for the files are moved to the folder unknown Artist\Unknown Album is that they do not have a tag or the tag is empty. This is true of all the files in the .wav format, as they have tags. In some cases, mp3 files may have several tags, that maybe not all the same data and including an iTunes reads or updates is not set. ITunes can finally move things forward in the wrong folder where there are permissions issues, but usually that moves things to a level or in rare cases throw them on the desktop.

When you say that allowing you to move the preferences files, you update the path in the media folder and then consolidate library (create copies, leaving you to delete the originals by hand) or did you move them by hand and then update the file? This second method is a common cause of problems. When it works it is a happy coincidence. It is not how you are supposed to move content from iTunes.

In a modern iTunes library, the correct layout for the elements of music is \Music\- with other types of media stored in different subfolders ------.

Follow the steps to repair the security permissions for iTunes for Windows to your Media X:\iTunes library folder.

Verify under file > library > library organize the box to reorder the files is grayed out. In case contrary it check now and apply. It should reorganize and files located in ------------ form. He pourrait also move things out of unknown Artist\Unknown Album.

Look for the entry in the library for one of the files that is still unknown Artist\Unknown Album and information. Check that album & artist are filled. What format is the file? A correction in the name of the song, for example to add an end of X. Assuming you have the possibility to keep organized activated now moves to the right folder? If so turn keep organized power off, then turn it back on it. Who should correct the other misplaced items.

  • iMac with 2 users and shared iTunes library

I want to give my wife access to my iMac, since the death a few days ago from his netbook.

What should I do - apart from the creation of a new account - we can use the same iTunes library, which is on an external hard drive?

She has her own iPad and so own Apple ID.

    Some additional information:

1 there is no iTunes purchases which he shared library ' in bulk ' on the hard drive.

    2. we don't use iTunes game

    3. sharing app would be nice, but she won't need to almost nothing outside of Safari, office and iTunes

    4. for the office, I have a 365 subscription, which she can also use

    5. There is an Apple TV involved, that we use to stream iTunes and is connected to my Apple ID for the moment. Is this a problem?

6 sync is useless for its iPad, sync to my iPhone should still work with my account

    Thank you!

Launch iTunes with down option, and then choose this library. You may need to change permissions on it, or select the volume in the Finder, choose get the information in the file menu and check the box for ignore ownership or permissions to this topic.

  • Replace .mac account shared with iCloud separate accounts.

    Hello

I'm looking for advice on how best to clean up the mess created by our continued use of our ancient .mac account.

My wife and I have had an account .mac since 2005.  Our e-mail addresses are aliases that are associated with this account.  It's messy.

My wife and I would like to have separate accounts .icloud but, if possible, do not want to give up e-mail addresses that we had for 11 years.  Is this possible?  We also want to make the transition without complicating our existing .mac account settings. For example, our children now have their own accounts of .icloud that are related to the original address of .mac as part of a family sharing.

    Thank you!

Using more an iDevice on the same computer

This mainly applies to couples who add another device and don't want their electronic mail, messages, etc. being duplicated on both devices. To start reading: How to use several iPhone, iPad or iPod devices with one computer. You must create a login separate Apple and password for anyone who will use the new iDevice. See Apple - my Apple ID and frequently asked questions about the Apple ID. The easiest way is to do it on the computer using iTunes: iTunes - how to set up an Apple ID iTunes.

On the computer, create a new user account for the person with the new iDevice. This is the user account always uses this person. He or she will no longer use the other user account. This way the person will have a separate iTunes library. Note When finished, do not 'share' apps under a single Apple ID. Each of you must buy your own applications under your own Apple ID. When you decide to divide like this you will have to buy new applications they want to use.

First, transfer the new devices to a new account as well as all your data.  Save pictures of flow picture you want to keep for your camera (unless they are already in the camera roll) by opening your Photos app, tap Albums icon at the bottom. Now press the album My Photo Stream; Press Select; tap the photo you want to select. tap the share (box with the face up arrow) in the lower left corner icon; in the film, and then click Save.

If you synchronize notes with iCloud, you want to keep, you must open each of your notes and email it to yourself. Later, you can copy and paste the text into the new notes created in your new account.

Tap Settings > iCloud > remove account (removes it only from this device, not iCloud; the person who maintains the current account is not affected) provide the password to disable find my phone and choose to keep on my iDevice when prompted.  Sign in with another Apple ID to create your new account. Choose merge to download your data.

Once you are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com and remove data from the other person to your account.

The above was created by the user randers4. Changes were made to improve the readability and the syntax.

  • Move the large Itunes library to QNAP nas

I have a very large iTunes library (28000 + tracks) and move it to a QNAP TS119 nas (disc), so as to add titles to my library my SONOS system can access without the need for my Mac to be marketed.

My question, where should I put on the NAS and what is the best way to transfer files?

When the files are on the NAS I just point itunes to that folder on the NAS Server?

And finally if all goes wrong I can simply point itines in the original file on the Mac.

I have other forms of return such as external hard drives, a time machine WD as well as a sharecentre from D-Link (2 Bay) which I am also faced with.

    Thank you very much.

Moving a library: quick response if you use preferences by default iTunes settings: copy the folder integer iTunes (and to ensure that all of its subfolders and files) intact at the other disk, hold down the option/ALT key to start iTunes and on request to select a library select iTunes Library.itl file in the copied folder.

Or you can move only the media: 12 iTunes for Mac: change where are stored the iTunes files - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH19507

With a NAS you live with some risk. iTunes and NAS not always play well together and there are regular positions here where file locations is stripped completely with use NAS (I think this has something to do with the NAS software).  During an iTunes update can cause complete failure of the library when on a NAS to what NAS manufacturers publish a software update.  If you use the NAS I suggest you use a hard drive regularly to store your library and use the NAS for backup.  If you use the NAS, I would put the entire library on it, not only the multimedia files.

  • How can I find the music marked with an exclamation point in my itunes library?

How can I find the music marked with an exclamation point in my itunes library?

    Hello there rdgernnr!

I certainly don't want to find the songs that show the "!" and get them to play correctly. If you have not yet done it, read this article: If you see an exclamation point next to your items in iTunes - Apple Support

    More precisely:

Correct the path of the media file

Follow these steps to help find the correct location of the file iTunes media:

    1. In iTunes on your Mac or PC, select the song, album, movie, or television show that has the exclamation next to him.
    2. In the MenuBar at the top of your screen, computer or at the top of the iTunes window choose Edition > read the information.
If you are using Windows and you don't see the menu bar, Learn how to turn it on.
    3. When you see a message asking if you want to locate the file, click search.
      • If you know the location of the file, point to it iTunes and try to read your content.
      • If you do not know the location of the file, search for it:
Mac: Press ⌘ and space control your keyboard, and then type the name of the movie title, app, song, album or artist.
Windows: Press the Windows on your keyboard, and then type the name of the movie title, app, song, album or artist. If your keyboard does not have a Windows key, press the Escape (Esc) and control (Ctrl) on your keyboard.
      • If the file is on a network drive or external, plug on the volume of disk or external network.
      • If you find your objects in the trash or recycle bin, restore them to their previous location:
Mac: Control-click or right-click on the item and choose put back.
Windows: Right-click on the item and choose restore.
    4. Once you retrieve the file, use Get new Info to locate the file, and then point iTunes to the correct location.

    See you soon!

  • Lost all the files of muisc - Itunes library intact but lost hard drive with music files

    Hello

I'm on windows 10 and the latest version of Itunes. I had a separate hard drive with all my music, which represents 95% of the CD, even some captured directly from vinyl. (iknow all conferences on the backup to the top and sent hard drives for repair, but not luck)

So my Itunes library is intact, as it was stored on the drive to the OS, but every track has an exclamation point. I tried to use Itunes game and music in an attempt to restore my library, but I suspect I'm going to build it from scratch again, re - burn all my CDs

    Any ideas?

See recover your iTunes from your iPod or an iOS device. If you subscribe to iTunes Match your should be able to create a new library and download content to it. The old one will assume that the tracks are present, even if they cannot be found. You must avoid doing anything which could remove the reference to the track in iTunes game, that's why I suggest to do a new library.

  • Copy iTunes library to new computer and NAS configuration as an iTunes server

    Hello

My current setup is a macbook with an external hard drive to the iTunes library. I just bought a new Macbook Pro and am about to transfer my library from anywhere on my new computer. I have a very large iTunes library and I would like to be able to access it from my laptop, iPhone and iPad using Plex, Sonos or similar to primarily play music around my house. I won't have my Macbook Pro on all the time to play the music.

Rather than copy my iTunes through library to my new Macbook Pro, I intend to:

1 copy my current iTunes library to a NAS drive

    2. set the destination folder to iTunes on my new MacBook Pro on the NAS drive

What is the correct procedure? Are there problems that? Does anyone have suggestions better?

Drag the iTunes folder everything from the old computer to the NAS. Launch iTunes on the new computer while holding down the option/alt key and when prompted choose the iTunes Library.itl file in the iTunes on the NAS folder.

The NAS must be on and wake up before from iTunes or the computer will forget the location of the library file and you use the option + method again.

Some like the idea of a SIN to do what you want to do but iTunes and NAS don't do not always play very well together.  Make sure that you keep good backups against the day you post here saying that your iTunes library everything is a mess and you try to play a track and something completely different once. or etc, etc.

I don't know about all of these interfaces you mention.  If you are hosting the music to an iPhone an iPhone can not read directly a NAS and you must have iTunes running to serve the media.

  • Download my iTunes library to a new Mac

    Hello

I bought a new MacBook and want to download my entire iTunes library so that I can use it offline (in flight, etc.). Is it possible to do this without having to individually click each album, one by one?

    Thank you

Is it possible to do this without having to individually click each album, one by one?

So, it looks like you have a music to iCloud library, a subscription to Match iTunes or Apple music (or both).  Is this correct?

If so, you can download a large selection of songs at the same time (instead of one by one).  Show your library iTunes music with the view of songs , so that you see a simple list with columns.  If you do not see the column download iCloud , make visible (right click on the header row in the list of songs to show/hide columns).  The column download iCloud is narrow, with a cloud symbol in its title.  The songs that are not currently stored on the local storage of your Mac have a symbol of the cloud with the arrow pointing down , which you can click to download this song.

BUT, instead of clicking on the cloud next to each song, sort the list of songs by the iCloud download column (click on the header of the column download iCloud ).  All the songs with the symbol of the cloud are displayed together.  To select all at once, click the first song with cloud(), press on and hold the SHIFT key and click the last song with cloud.  Clicked both songs and all the songs in the meantime are selected at the same time.  Right-click on the selection and download.
