Move the large Itunes library to QNAP nas

I have a very large iTunes library (28000 + tracks) and move it to a QNAP TS119 nas (disc), so as to add titles to my library my SONOS system can access without the need for my Mac to be marketed.

My question, where should I put on the NAS and what is the best way to transfer files?

When the files are on the NAS I just point itunes to that folder on the NAS Server?

And finally if all goes wrong I can simply point itines in the original file on the Mac.

I have other forms of return such as external hard drives, a time machine WD as well as a sharecentre from D-Link (2 Bay) which I am also faced with.

Thank you very much.

Moving a library: quick response if you use preferences by default iTunes settings: copy the folder integer iTunes (and to ensure that all of its subfolders and files) intact at the other disk, hold down the option/ALT key to start iTunes and on request to select a library select iTunes Library.itl file in the copied folder.

Or you can move only the media: 12 iTunes for Mac: change where are stored the iTunes files - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH19507

With a NAS you live with some risk. iTunes and NAS not always play well together and there are regular positions here where file locations is stripped completely with use NAS (I think this has something to do with the NAS software).  During an iTunes update can cause complete failure of the library when on a NAS to what NAS manufacturers publish a software update.  If you use the NAS I suggest you use a hard drive regularly to store your library and use the NAS for backup.  If you use the NAS, I would put the entire library on it, not only the multimedia files.

  • Help!  Large iTunes library split into two locations, how to fix?

Long ago, I told iTunes to store its iTunes Media on a NAS file and I copied the iTunes folder all my D: to the NAS unit.  I also said iTunes to keep organized records and copy files of music added to the NAS.

I just found out by examining the XML file that iTunes thinks about half of my music files (~ 7,000 of them) are located on the D: drive and other ~ 7 000 are there where I want it all, on the NAS.  Number of files on the NAS which I however contained artist/album music files are empty; the files appear to have been erased and are still on the D: drive where the XML points to them.  Management of iTunes files (XML. ITL, etc..) iTunes is now current are also on the D: drive... those on the NAS are not kept up to date.

I thought my massive library - countless hours to rip my CD - safe on the multi-plate RAID NAS.  Goes, if I lose my D: drive (which I was backup is no longer) I lose half of my library and all of my iTunes administrative folders.  Ouch!

How can I get safely iTunes exclusively use the SIN for all the data files and of the administration?

If I re - copy data from D: to the NAS and edit the XML file to point to the NAS for all files, iTunes will not even watch D: for the management of the library?  How can I do forget d everything?

Thanks in advance for any help.

By modifying the file XML will not help at all - iTunes only writes to this file, the bed ever.  Assuming that all of your media plays correctly then you should be able to consolidate your library (file > library > organize library > consolidate files).  This will copy all the multimedia files that are not in the iTunes media folder location specified in Edit > Preferences > advanced to this location.  Note, however, that many reports suggest that iTunes + SIN is not an ideal combination; You can be better to use a standard external drive for your library and use the NAS device for backups.  You can also watch the advice to user turingtest2 on do a split cell library for more details on the optimization of available to your library.

  • Delete and synchronize with the new iTunes library

I recently got a new MacBook Pro and put in place a new iTunes account using my apple ID. I was previously using a PC computer and buys a different apple for iTunes id. My phone is synchronized with the computer and transferred all my purchases to my computer, but not my apps. But now it is said to bring anything to my new iTunes, I need to erase and sync, then I can put on the new iTunes things. It is said that it can only be synchronized an iTunes at the same time, but what is it clear? If she will take just the back upward, that's fine. I'm just confused about what is clear and what will happen if I clear its contents. Any help is appreciated.

Why did you create a new AppleID?

You can't transfer purchases to the new AppleID.

You can update old AppleID if you have the new email address.

Just copy the entire folder/iTunes / / Music from PC to Veronica on your Mac.
That's all you need to do.

  • Moving iTunes library to a NAS device for access by a computer windows laptop and a computer mac laptop.

My fiancée has a MacBook Pro and I have a windows PC. We shared a library itunes on his mac, but we are short on space and wish to settle in a NAS. I would like to be able to sync to my iphone via a version of itunes on my windows pc (so I can sync the calendar and contacts with outlook).  He would like to sync his iphone with a version of itunes on his mac, but we want to share a library of music, movie, podcast, photo.  Is it possible that we have a shared itunes accessible by my PC and MAC traffic?

Seems there must be a common thing to want to do but I can't find any literature on this subject.

  • Copy iTunes library to new computer and NAS configuration as an iTunes server

    Hello

My current setup is a macbook with an external hard drive to the iTunes library. I just bought a new Macbook Pro and am about to transfer my library from anywhere on my new computer. I have a very large iTunes library and I would like to be able to access it from my laptop, iPhone and iPad using Plex, Sonos or similar to primarily play music around my house. I won't have my Macbook Pro on all the time to play the music.

Rather than copy my iTunes through library to my new Macbook Pro, I intend to:

1 copy my current iTunes library to a NAS drive

    2. set the destination folder to iTunes on my new MacBook Pro on the NAS drive

What is the correct procedure? Are there problems that? Does anyone have suggestions better?

Drag the iTunes folder everything from the old computer to the NAS. Launch iTunes on the new computer while holding down the option/alt key and when prompted choose the iTunes Library.itl file in the iTunes on the NAS folder.

The NAS must be on and wake up before from iTunes or the computer will forget the location of the library file and you use the option + method again.

Some like the idea of a SIN to do what you want to do but iTunes and NAS don't do not always play very well together.  Make sure that you keep good backups against the day you post here saying that your iTunes library everything is a mess and you try to play a track and something completely different once. or etc, etc.

I don't know about all of these interfaces you mention.  If you are hosting the music to an iPhone an iPhone can not read directly a NAS and you must have iTunes running to serve the media.

  • Move the folder outside the folder music iTunes

by default iTunes stores its settings, the file iTunes Library.itl and tracks audio library of music, in the \Users\username\Music\iTunes folder.

I don't want my music folder polluted by the parameters of the program, especially because I'm synchronize this folder on the cloud.

Via the Control Panel, I can only change the path of the audio tracks, but the settings remain in the default position.
Is it possible to move the iTunes folder to another path?

Drag the iTunes folder to another location, launch iTunes with the SHIFT key pressed and select it.

  • How to make iTunes automatically recognize the location of my iTunes library?

I have my iTunes library on an external hard drive (all files).  Works fine when the drive is connected to the MacBook.  Recently, I decided that instead of having hung the MacBook hard drive all the time, I could connect it permanently to the network plug on my Time Capsule and access the library on the network.  Did this and traveled to the new location of the library to iTunes without any problems.  However, I must now go to the new location of the library whenever I run the iTunes application.  I know that iTunes needs to pick up the location automatically - what have I not done?

Launch iTunes while holding down the option/alt key and select the file iTunes Library.itl the external drive.

The external drive should be active and on (not sleeping) before you start iTunes.  Post by thanos206 with tip on using iTunes on external drives - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3282856 - ' create an alias of iTunes and place it on the network drive. • Previous iTunes library. ITL?

Can I remove previous libraries and temporary files iTunes without harming the current "iTunes Library.itl" or "iTunes Library.xml?"

    Current system:

    MacBook Pro i7 15 "retina (end 2013)

    16 GB OF RAM

    iTunes version 12.4.1.6

Size of folder Support 1.46 TB on a NAS Drobo5N

The database has become erratic, duplication of entire directories and lose the default folders.

I was able to fix much of this behavior of coping files on iTunes, using iTunes to delete the file, and then re adding them.

Are these previous iTunes libraries and the temporary files needed? Is it possible to use the iTunes interface to remove them, or can I just do it in the finder without evil?

    Thank you for any help...

    1. No, unless your current iTunes made reference to something in them.

    2. move to a different folder in the Finder and check the current library before deleting.

  • How to use on another mac iTunes library stored on external hard drive - on cable network

I recently bought a new iMac. I used a time machine to the top to move all files my new computer. I still want to use my old iMac as a media server for my network. The main iTunes library is located on an external hard drive connected to my old iMac.  I don't want to move all these files to my new iMac media because they are large enough.

I sync all my families phones/ipads on this new iMac and of course difficulties with finding them their music/songs etc. When I contacted apple support, they had me move my iTunes library to my new iMac. Now phones are able to properly synchronize and pull up all of their media. However I just duplicated 200 GB of media files. I was able to access the external hard drive to move the media. Is there a way to have my new iMac external hard accessing multimedia disc in iTunes for play and synchronize multimedia files without storing this library on my new computer?

Why not simply unplug the external hard drive and move it? And I don't think so. You can use home sharing to access the library and the Wi - Fi sync iTunes by following the instructions in the link.

  • Apple TV is not connect to iTunes Library when you start

I have 4 of Apple TV, iTunes 12.3.3.xx, Windows 10.  Home sharing works great for listening to the music and movies of my iTunes library... sometimes. Almost every time I turn on my Apple TV and access the application of computers, it tells me to activate home sharing in iTunes.  It is already on and my PC has the value Never Sleep and drive to never turn off.  If I turn off home sharing in iTunes and then turn it back on, the Apple TV immediately recognizes the library and I can listen very well.  The next time I turn on my Apple TV, I have to make the routine all over again.  It was not used to do this when I was with my old XP machine, but I also couldn't upgrade to iTunes 12 on XP.  I had once a Windows 10 machine and put iTunes 12 on it, the problem began.  So, I don't know if it's Windows 10 or 12 iTunes or what.  It gets really annoying.  Please help me understand why my Apple TV can not see my library when I first put it.

I read a few other posts about people not being able to get home sharing to work at all (where mine will work after home sharing then next turn again).  They said that to disable IPv6 on the network card on the PC solved their problem.  I did, and until now my problem disappeared.  I'll report in a few days once I have the chance to see if it happens again.

  • Lack of iTunes library.

I have an iMac 10.9.5. Unwittingly, I clicked on upgrade to the latest version of iTunes.

Now, I get this error message. I tried to locate my iTunes library but did not succeed.  I wonder if I downloaded the new version of iTunes with success or entirely. Then click "iTunes" in the menu bar, nothing happens.

Choose the file iTunes Library.itl to your music > iTunes folder.

  • Is there a complete method to consolidate my iTunes library?

I discovered that I have a part of the old iTunes library on a separate disk. I tried to do the function consolidate library, but there still seems to be some inconsistencies between the 2 libraries. Both are on external drives.  More obvious is that when I go to the library to XML export is not capture everything in my library. I noticed that a lot of my playlists are not included in the export. I use PulpTunes to share my iTunes with Non-Apple friends and it becomes very clear that everything in the library has been included in the XML file.

The command to "Consolidate library" in iTunes is used to consolidate the songs files stored in different locations in the designated folder iTunes Media (the one represented in the Advanced iTunes preferences pane).  But these songs must be in your iTunes ONE already.  You cannot use any command in iTunes to consolidate the songs that are in two difference iTunes libraries, in the library an iTunes.

I discovered that I have a part of the old iTunes library on a separate disk.

Is one of both your current (more complete) iTunes library iTunes libraries?  If so, for this "primary" iTunes library, are all its files in singing organized by iTunes in one folder iTunes Media , designated in the Advanced iTunes preferences pane?
