Java.lang.NullPointerException with cftry/cfcatch capture?

I get a java.lang.NullPointerException is an update of a CFC function:
«The cause of this output exception was that: java.lang.NullPointerException.»

I want to find where it generates this error so I can fix it. I never really used CFTRY and CFCATCH, but thought now would be a good time to see if this helped track down me the null value. Can someone provide an example of how to use these tags with the NPES above and generate a message that gives information on where it is failing?

I'm using a standard update query,
< cfquery >
UPDATE table
SET columns = new values
Column WHERE ID = some ID
< / cfquery >

In the cfcatch block of code mail yourself a cfdump the cfcatch structure.

  • HELP blackBerry Smartphones: intercepted the calls missed on the fritz, no Exception: java.lang.NullPointerException

Hi all - I tried to figure this thing out of these last hours... and I'm about to smash my phone against the wall (of course, I've gotten nowhere with it).

Here's the problem: about 2 days ago I noticed that my phone is no longer maintaining missing calls in the call log (the last "missed calls" are dated 3/22). Instead, what happens is that I'm going to take notice of the number of calls on my home screen, but then when I go on my call log, I see that calls that were actually sent or received and not those missed. Not long after that notice, the following message appeared: Eception Exception: java.lang.NullPointerException. Also, until this happened, I used to get a pop up after each missed call that would tell me that I missed a call and give me the possibility to display or dismiss the alert. Is no longer comes after he missed a call, so I think it's the functionality of java which was damaged.

So I tried to pull the battery and all that jazz, but nothing has changed. At one point, pulling the battery caused the phone to give me some other errors of java and back to put on the original page of the home screen, but after removing the battery once more, everything is returned to my original problem. Only happened once. Today I finally decided to search online for a quick fix and I was thinking about something. I tried pulling the battery and remove the sim/memory card, then tried to re-sync, then try clearing the addressbook of device and re-sync, tried to backup everything, then checked more OS updates (mine is already the most recent)... and now I'm stuck. The only thing I have not actually tried is wiping and nine with a reload of the OS. I would really like to avoid this

Also, for some reason after that the software update RIM has checked my phone for its version of the OS, my ringtone settings reset itself. Not sure if this is related to the java problem or just a chance to complication/bad?

Does anyone have an idea what could have happened to my phone? It is literally out of nowhere, so you can imagine my frustration...

Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Yes, you will need to remove the current operating system, and reload later.

The software seems to be corrupted.

Make sure you have the latest version of the software for your device and your carrier installed on the computer.

It's the device, software, not the Office Manager.

Once done, go to drive C: Program Files: common files: Research in Motion: App Loader and double-click on loader.exe.

Once the Welcome screen appears, plug the battery in and click Next. When you see the PIN number appear after maybe a few minutes press next.

Once he arrives at the device application part, select only things you need, uncheck all other languages, etc..

On the last page before you click on finish, you see an option "EITHER", click here and make sure that both check boxes are fixed.

Do not press the save option and select Finish

    This will fix the problem.

Was a problem with MySpace, found no messages/threads with this specific issue, if you are looking for help.  I noticed in the review for MySpace v1.5 on AppWorld Board there were other owners of the Curve 8330 has the same question:

Whenever I try to view my friends list, add a friend, or look at someone from another friend list, the application crashes.  If I leave the app to do something else while it loads and try to re - open, I get:

    Untrapped exception:

    java.lang.NullPointerException

Research on the forums for this error of java, most of the suggestions were to reload the operating system of the device such that it may be corrupted.  As an attempt to solve the problem, last night I upgraded to v4.5 v4.3.  When I have been upgrading completed, my MySpace, AppWorld and Facebook apps has shown under options > advanced > applications, but the icons could not be found.  I even searched the hidden icons and still no luck.  I used the destop application loader to remove these three applications in the device manager.  I then downloaded AppWorld from my (www.blackberry.com) device and once it has been installed it used to download and install MySpace and Facebook.  Once they have downloaded and installed, I turned off and only went to a battery.  Restarts, showed the icons and apps worked... except for the MySpace Friend list: same problem.  I don't remember when this error occurred initially, but I guess it was after the last MySpace app update.  Were not immediately thereafter, however.  I can access my messages, and the home page, but that's all.  I already sent an e-mail to [email protected] with no response

    Any help out there!

MySpace 1.5.1.7 version is available for download!

Curiously, the app started working properly a few days there with the exception of slow notifications, but not mistakes.

  • Smartphones from blackBerry 8350i eception exception java.lang.NullPointerException after hard reset

    basic information:

    8350i

    v4.6.1.204 (Platform 3.0.0.73)

    Desktop Manager 4.7

everything is good except that I was using two batteries, one in the phone and the other in a charger. When the battery is almost empty I swap with one charge naturally causing a hard reset.

This procedure worked well for at least a week or two, until last month when I swapped batteries - after the hard reset, I had

    Eception exception: java.lang.NullPointerException

I could make calls, but all other software were corrupted... practically nothing else worked... missing icons etc.

tried all kinds of solutions, but the only thing that fixed it was a full-on device software erase/recharging, then a restore of data since the previous backup. at the time, I thought it was just something random and was happy to learn how to do a full charge of the software.

then yesterday it happened again (even once, at the end of the security check immediately after the hard reset). now I'm afraid to swap batteries because it seems that every time I have hard reset it recharge a 10% chance (I guess) of corruption of software and a complete takes considerable time.

If anyone else has noticed this? does anyone have a solution?

can I change batteries without a hard reset; i.e. Exchange while that connected to the power supply? I have not tried this yet for fear of harming my BB.

    any help is appreciated,

    John d.

15 seconds is too short period of time.

It took at least a minute before returning the battery.

Error you reported is related to badly written in device memory operating data.

In most cases, helps to battery pull. But you must wait at least one minute before you put the battery on the device.

When you do battery pull make sure that this device is not connected to any external device or the wall charger.

In the event of battery pull does not help, I recommend to consider wiping the device memory.

  • BlackBerry smartphones I need help: Eception Exception java.lang.nullpointerexception

I don't know how to make a post but I have a really big problem and I feel absolutely stupid for this wonderful gadget.

Buy a Blackberry Storm from a friend and I was using the phone since. I have three problems so far :

    1. the phone times out when I select certain characteristics does not lock for example when I try to lock the phone, clock rises and still the phone or when I try to open a menu like the media clock appears, then disappears and does not open the media folder

2 there is a delay when I turn the phone horizontally / vertically. The menu takes time to adapt to the way I look at the phone. You know that thing of screen filp.

3 each time I have select the Blackberry icon or even the browser I get this error message:

    Untrapped exception:

    java.lang.NullPointerException

    Help please anyone?

To recover the App World (if you decide you want to), you can simply download it.  Once you have the browser on your phone running, you can open the browser and go to the homepage of the BlackBerry (it is a bookmarks) and download from there.  Alternatively, you can find more information on how to install App World here:

    http://NA.BlackBerry.com/eng/services/appworld/download.jsp

As a heads up, App World is great for convenience, but do not (didn't work on my phone).  So even if you are not able to download and use App World, it's not a big deal.

About BlackBerry Desktop Manager, try to go to this link: http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/

It is available as a free download (click on the download button, and then on the next page, select BlackBerry Desktop Manager 5.0 menu drop-down) and you can choose to install it with or without the Media Manager.  If you want a simpler version, download the version without the media manager.

I'll try to keep an eye on this thread over the weekend, then post here if you have problems.  Otherwise, I look forward to your confirmation that everything was fine.

HI and welcome to the Forums!

Untrapped exception happen - they are basically an event for which there is no program on the device to manage code. It's like a mistake on a computer--sometimes they straight. Future updates will probably help with some. A few things to check and try:

    (1) make sure you are on the latest OS for your business... you can check your carriers latest version certified through this Portal:

    http://NA.BlackBerry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp

    (2) a Hard Reboot:

Whenever random strange behaviors creep, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the hood back and remove the battery. Wait a minute, then replace the battery and cover. Power on and wait patiently through the long reboot - about 5 minutes. See if things return to functioning. Like all computing devices, BB suffers from memory leaks and others... with a hard reboot is the best remedy.

    (3) good memory management:

There are three types of potential memory on a BB: 1) application memory, the device memory) 2 and 3) Media/SD memory card

Application memory - it is the most important; It is protected (not available to the user), dedicated and (fixed size) space as the destination for the installation of applications (more a few storage applications, overhead and other costs). You can't touch AppMemory. You cannot improve the maximum AppMemory that your BB has. It is what it is. Applications can install only here... There is no other choice.

The device memory - it is space on your BB you can touch these files, images, media, etc. In general, it is not very big, but it is available.

Memory card SD/Media - is what it says... your SD card to store files, media, photos, etc.. It can be as large as your BB OS can support... see this KB:
    http://www.BlackBerry.com/BTSC/KB05461

On some devices/OS levels, enforcement and the memory of the device are combined into "free file"... This is, IMO, a little more difficult to administer that you can't see really how AppMemory you have. Nevertheless, here are some tips to use:
    http://www.BlackBerry.com/BTSC/KB15345
    http://www.BlackBerry.com/BTSC/KB14320
    http://www.BlackBerry.com/BTSC/KB14213

Finally, it is always important to correctly close applications when you are finished with them. Using the back or on the red button won't do that - those leave the app to decide what to do... and some let themselves memory-resident, consumes resources on your BB, slowing down the overall performance. Rather, to close an application, press the BBKey and select 'Farm' or 'Quit'... that forces the application to be closed, freeing for your new use the resources it consumed. Some applications will always be running (in general - BBMessenger, browser, homescreen, phone and Messages)... but, you should always close them properly - especially the browser... If we leave on a web page, it will not consume only additional resources, but the power of the battery as well.

    Good luck!

    Hello!

There is virtually no diagnosis of those - they are the equivalent of random errors in Windows for which trace the root cause is futile. Basically, here's the last out in the programming code - some event occurred for which there is no event handler in the code. The patch is an update of the code that handles the event... but, again, what is the event is almost impossible. So, there are a few things to try:

Sometimes, the code simply is damaged and needs to be updated - just like a reboot:

    • Each time a random strange behavior or slow creeps, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot.

There may be a code updated to the value of the carrier - check out them through this Portal:

The toughest possible causes are a bad application behave. To find it, we need to eliminate apps one at a time, wait a while between the two (I usually recommend a week), until the problem stops... revealing the offending application.

Good luck and let us know!
