  The battery is probably end of life on your device and became swollen push the screen during your period of non-use. You need to go to an Apple authorized service provider and pay for repair.

  Thanks JW Stuart. Unfortunately, they did not result in all of the available downloads. However by clicking on tools at the top right icon, I learned finally that if I hit reset control, the resolution would go back to 100%. I tried this and it worked. Thanks again!

  So I tried all the fixes and patches that I could find on the internet, but none of them have solved my problem.   If you have a Touchpad with touch screen emulation features that no matter where the pointer is on the screen.  What is the place where your finger touches the touchpad.   For example, the following information would explain your description of symptoms so far: touch screen emulation is active in a touch pad, finger hit the left edge of the Touchpad, App switching is enabled and when I drag from the left... is enabled.  At least a MUF app is open as well as desktop applications.  Result: app switching (but not 'for no reason' )
