Just got a Palm m505 and need help

Hello

I just got a Palm m505, which didn't come with a manual and have never used a Palm tree (very excited im fine) and have a few questions. I downloaded the manual that answers a few questions, but I'm still not sure about certain things.  Given that I bought from someone else, that I was wondering if I use the reset on the back it will just bring it back to its default settings or it will erase somethings I need and in turn will have to reload something on this subject?

I also downloaded the Palm software 4.1.4 to my computer - I have Windows 2000 - is that correct?

They gave me the cables to connect the docking to the outlet as well as the computer... is there another piece of hardware I'm missing or is this what I need?  The Lady spoke briefly to my boyfriend and she told him that he had to get something else, but he can't remember what she said. If I use it for the basic functions are there any other basic hardware components im missing?

I know that these are just issues, but I appreciate the help, advice would be appreciated.

By pressing the reset button will perform a "Soft Reset".  This will not delete the device, but it restarts just (as your computer when you turn it on, then on it).

If you want to erase and do like 'all new', then you will need to perform a "Hard Reset".

To perform a hard reset: (Palm Knowledgebase article #887)

By now the power down button, press on and release the Reset button on the back and continue to press the Power button. When the gray Palm logo is displayed, you can release the Power button.

You should now see the warning in 5 languages page. Press the direction upward on the 5-way keypad to perform the task. The Palm restarts several times as it re - install the original programs and erases all data from your previous.

This erases all other programs that were installed to it.  The installation disk supplied with the unit has several programs that can be installed on the device.  If one of them is that now, when you do the Hard Reset they will be gone and will require the drive to bring back.

Looks like you have everything you need - Palm Desktop, the cradle and power supply for the cradle.  One piece of hardware that you can use is a SD card for extra memory.  It is not necessary, but very convenient to have to add more programs to the device.

Enjoy your Palm!
