Just installed vmware ESXi 4.0.0.  Also have Workstation 6.5 I have a few questions here...

Good day, I am new and vmware esxi virtualization in general...

I installed the server esxi 4.0. and I want to welcome a few virtual machines on this server. I tried the ViCLient and really like it. But this customer is a 60 day trial and it costs $ 1,000 per license, if I understand correctly...

I also have the Vmware workstation 6.5 software.

My main goal for this is to be able to import and export on the esxi virtual machines, create snapshots, export these snapshots, etc... I'm not too familiar with Workstation 6.5 so, but so far, it does the job in terms of export and imprting vms from the ESXi. But I would like to be able to browse the data store, create virtual machines on the esxi without having to create them locally AND export to ESXi...

I would like to be able to create, manage, copy, create and import/export snapshots, to/from the esxi, but I guess you can't do all this using VmWare Workstation? I would buy the Vsphere CLient, but I'm not one who has a hand on the budget of COMPUTING...

When you access download ESXi you license number appears near the top of the page. Enter this number in the Configuration tab under license vSphere client.

You should always check the Web site of the manufacturer for drivers that are available for the version of Windows that you are installing.

  • I installed VMware ESXi on my Cisco's UCS server but after that I don't get from CIMC.

I installed VMware ESXi on my Cisco's UCS server but after that I don't get from CIMC. also, I am unable to ping the address IP of CIMC. Any help?

I think that MMIC does nothing with your ESXi installation... it is OoB management for servers of the UCS.

Check your config MMIC inside the BIOS again.

  • Just installed VMWare

Okay, so I just install VMWare on my dedicated server Linux Enterprise Cent OS 64 BIT. I also installed the Management Interface. I need now install Windows Xp, how can I do this? I installed VMWare via KVMIP.

With netstat, you must find the listening port for the remote service.

Then, you can use the client with the correct port.

Is usually IP:904 (in the VMware Server Console host name).

  • Install VMware ESXI 5.1: GROUP with no error reported

    Hey everybody,

We are trying to install VMware on a server which seems full fill all the requirements of the material.

We have tried both a CD and a USB key (who both successful install VMware on another server)

    and we had this problem:

A few seconds after that, we started from the Flash DRIVE or the CD, we get a simple screen purple

with absolutely no message and no error reported. Then, if we expect more, we get a black screen with a few

green squares arranged randomly all over the screen.

If someone who had the same problem could help us or if anyone has an idea on how

to get some kind of error there reports, it would be very apreciated!

Thx for your time and your consideration buddies.

Please tell us what the hardware. Also please download and apply the latest firmware available for this material to the web site of the manufacturer. I had the exact same problem with my HP DL360 Gen7 and I applied the last Pack of Proliant HP who has paid the GROUP for me.

  • How to install vmware esxi 5.5 on ucs220 M3

    Hi Member,.

I have this in my lab

UCS 220 M3 with hardward raid:

    CISCO UCS RAID SAS 2008 M - 8i: PID UCSC-RAID-MZ-C220 Mezzanine 4 internal NO. 0, 1, 1E, 10

    4 discs: 1 mini SAS (UCSC-3)

I'm trying to install VMWARE ESXi5.5 on it, while installation work perfectly fine, but the server could not start from where vmware is installed.

Any help will be appreciated on how to go about the installation and the creation of a part of the bios initialization.

    Thank you

When you press F6, you see the RAID controller that is listed as a boot option?

Can we go to the MMIC BIOS configuration, Advanced tab and check the Option ROM (OPROM) this controller is activated?

    So useful, please note

  • Plan to change VMWare ESXi, but have a few questions

Use VMWare server, but I'm cosnsidering passage to VMWare ESXi. I have a few simple newbie questions and apologize in advance if they are stupid. I tried myself, but have no spare hardware to do and I would like to clarify this before buying a new compatible server ESXi.

    1. read the communities that I discovered that ESXi does not support the USB storage device. It takes in charge USB devices or it does not support USB? USB ports will work in guest OS?

    2. I also read that it is possible to install and start ESXi on a USB? How is this possible if the USB storage devices are not supported? OK, the BIOS is set to boot from the flash drive, ESXi loads with a RAMDISK, but then does not recognize the device it was loading during the boot process?

3 is supported media such as sound, 3D graphics cards?

4 serial ports taken care of?

    5. does a GUI in which it is possible to connect, view and switch guest OS bewtween locally, corner the ESXi server machine, as in VMware server on Linux (with Fire Fox for GUI), or it does not have a GUI at all and is possible to connect to if you use another computer or a terminal to access of the guest OS on ethernet?

    6. I also read that esata disks work properly either, but techincally they SATA drives that are connected outside the chassis, and ESXi notice perhaps, that they aren't on the inside. All devices support SATA, hot by desing so how do drive hard hot and hot-switching connection work in ESXi?

    Thank you.

1 ESXi does not support the device of USB storage for local data warehouses.  I don't remember the extent to which the guest OSes on ESXi.  I read that USB is only supported network based USB hubs.

    2. you can install ESXi on a USB key and start it.  It does not appear as a store of data however.

    3. I don't see the option for the installation of sound cards and I do not know the support of 3D video cards.

    4. Yes, the serial ports are supported.

    5. do you are unable to view the comments from the host OS console.  If you need to do this you player, Workstation or Server.

6 ESXi does not support SATA in local storage.  It is possible however to use SATA RAID cards that emulate SCSI (Adaptec 210 X for example).

ESXi is essentially ESX without the full service console.  Both share the same features and functionality as eachother.  ESXi is smaller, hardened operating system that is not running under Red Hat.

  • Cannot install VMware ESXi 4.1 "cannot find the image of the installed system.

Started in iso ESXi 4.1 downloaded, burned on a CD, CD, go to the screens, press F11 to install.  Immediately get the following error:

    -

    The installation operation failed!

The installation operation encountered a fatal error:

Cannot find the image of the installed system.  This is due to the image being not mounted correctly or the CD-ROM not supported.

The material is a system of handcrafted with Intel DQ35JO Council, latest version of the BIOS, Intel E6850 CPU, 8 GB of RAM, 2 SATA drives.  I know this isn't on the list compatible but is a 'white box '.  I installed ESXi 3.5 on it in the past and got it working, and I saw other success stories with this Board/CPU.  Yes, I have activated the virtualization mode in the BIOS and powered down/up.

    Here is what I tried:

-Redownload VMware-VMvisor-Installer - 4.1.0 - 260247.x86_64.iso to ensure that it was not corrupt (2 copies, against perfectly)

--Also tried another drive (IDE) CDROM

-Created a bootable USB using uNetBootin 4.7.1 and booted from it

-Switched SATA setting in the BIOS from AHCI to IDE

I get the same exact error.  I searched here and everywhere and don't find any reference to this error.

Help - all do you offer for my next step?

Have you had a previous vSphere installed on your system?

I had the same error on my 'white box' (in fact, it is black).  I used to run esxi 4.0 (u2) on my Acer X 3300 (6 GB, Quad Core AMD Athlon II).  Controllor internal SATA is not supported, but it allows me to use the box for normal windows task and ESXi is sitting on a SDHC 4 GB flash card.

When I started my freshly burned ESX4.1 cdrom, I got the same error.   I thought that the fact that maybe there was an existing install on my destination drive (the flash memory card), and that the CD could not perform an upgrade.

So, I tried the upgrade path (first trying to utility of the host and the .xml error message).  After reading the manual, I did the upgrade from 4.0 to 4.1 using the device of vMA and I must say that esxi 4.1 works great on my white box.

Then I suggest that you try upgrading and see how far that gets you.

Good luck (and a beautiful weekend)

  • Cannot install VMware ESXi 4.0 on RAID1

    Hi all,

I have a Dell optiplex 755 with 2 sata hard drives configured as RAID1 from the BIOS (hardware RAID). Ask VMware for a funny reason when installing, select a hard drive where to put all the files. The problem is that it asks me to choose from 2 hard drives instead of display a hard drive (RAID 1).

I tried to select at least one of them as well as the installation continued normally, but when I reboot the PC machine don't specify "no operating system found".

I also remove the RAID and tried the same setup. It worked smoothly until the end and of course even when I rebooted, it worked.

Can someone give me advice I can do to allow hardware RAID VMware?

    Thank you

Yes the RAID could be easy to set up - but not all RAID controllers are supported by VMware (so see you two discs instead of one, trying to install ESXi).

The link I sent you before can be used to determine the hardware supported, etc.
