MD3000i documentation hardware initiator?

We have a new MD3000i and Server Blade M1000e.  The blades have the Broadcom 5708 NIC Netxtreme II, which can be used as HBA is not required for MS SW Initiator.  Documentation on setting up the MD3000i only talk about configuration he and MS SW Initiator.  Anyone know if there is no recent docs who speak using an initiator of material instead of the MS SW Initiator.  I don't think I need MS SW initiator on the server at all?

We'll run our LAN 2 ports and 2 ports for our MD3000i but hoping does not need MS SW Initiator.  The blades starts from its local readers and access to MD3000i storage.

Thank you

    Hello

We have 10 blades x M620 with Broadcom 10gig 57810 M1000e CMC card dedicated for iSCSI Equallogic PS 6110 San.

Currently software used on cluster hyper-v Windows 2012 connect SAN PS6110 iscsi initiator.

150 VMS are in production on 15 CSVs.

We want to change the initiator of the software to the hardware on all our existing blades without CSV output.

Is it possible on hyper-v cluster 2012 to have 5 blades with initiator software and remaining 5 blades with hardware initiator with same CSV cluster?

If coexistence of initiator software and material as possible through hosting then I can apply this change a bit on our 10 blades without cluster downtime.

    Hello

What version of FW EQL do you use?

Yes, it is possible, however a couple of updates warn first.

1.) install the latest firmware / boot code and driver for Broadcom cards.

2.) put the node into maint mode then you can disconnect the SW iSCSI provenance and sign in using the HW iSCSI adapter.

3.) do not try to do it with an active node / online.

The advantage of the HW iSCSI adapter reduces the CPU Overload, if you are maxing out the CPU not now, do not expect a large increase in performance after HW iSCSI card.

  • 10GB iSCSI hardware initiator

Y at - it no support in ESX 4 for the use of an initiator of full 10 GB iSCSI instead of the software initiator material?  I can only see 10 GB NIC 1 GB iSCSI adapters on the VMWare HCL and... I don't see 10 GB iSCSI adapters.  I guess this means that we can use the software but hardware initiator only is not supported, correct?

Since already 10 Gbps iSCSI boxes released, we can expect this year.

As much as I know frames are not taken in charge for software iSCSI but it is supported for the hardware iSCSI initiators but please correct me if I'm wrong. Now what hardware initiator you recommend for jumbo frames?

In ESX 3.5, 10 gigabit Ethernet and jumbo frame are NOT supported on storage traffic (for example, the software initiator).

    In ESX 4 are supported.

  • Update BIOS to HP8100 Elite SFF

Often when I restart, the HP logo appears, the system hangs.  Another time does work ' t mouse after a reboot, and I have to unplug the USB port and use a different port. I thought that an update of the bios can solve these problems.   However, I am not clear when I go to the HP support network. It gives two options for the Bios 786 H 1 upgrade. From v1.04 to v1.05 and other v1.09 for v1.13. I V1.05 on my computor, does that mean it is up-to-date, or can I switch to V1.13? OS: Windows 7 64-bit sp1Windows 7 64 bit sp1

I don't have a 8100 Elite so can only reference the docs from HP

BIOS version 1.13 is the latest available for your 8100 Elite. If you look at the history of revisions for this release, you'll notice that it exposes all the fixes and improvements (normally) that have occurred since the first version.

Curiously, on the Review tab history of 1.13, it shows nothing before v1.08 but this version may not be the initial relase. Earlier versions of the bios are (and only 1.02 is actually documented as initial version in the release notes). I suspect that the reason is simply a change in HP/web documentation. Maybe it's because HP has simply changed the layout of the web page in the "release history" tab to include the actual corrections and improvements for each version (at the time the v1.05-> update 1.08 took place) and rather that fix HP old bios version documents/pages to reflect a new way of presenting history, HP has simply created a new branch of the document and ignored the old versions (with no notes to clarify the question)... But really, who knows why he is documented in two different ways...

The important thing is that bios v1.13 clearly indicates it is compatible with your elite 8100 sff and corrects a post blocking problem when certain hardware is plugged into a usb port. As you post hang questions, it is best to upgrade to the latest version of bios 1.13. Just take note that with the 1.13 update, he not do it back as mentioned in the release notes...

And if the bios does not have the grip of the post, then you may have other problems. First try update bios v1.13

  • What is SequenceFilePreInteractive

    Hello

I'm looking for a callback function run the initialization routines not taking into account execution using model or no model.  The callback function that I finally choose is "SequenceFilePreInteractive", and it seems to work like I wanted.  However, I do not understand what is meant by "PreInteractive"?

    Thank you.

    Peggy

    Hello

This callback allows you to perform a task (for example, hardware, initializing), before the selected steps are executed. It is known only in Interactive Mode.

It is not used in normal running ie Run Single Pass, TestUUT or sequence to run, but it is used when highlight you some steps and use run or run Using Single Pass or TestUUT.

Like wise there is a SequenceFilePostInteractive that allows you to perform tasks at the end of the Interactive run.

    I hope this helps.

  • design for the iSCSI SAN review

    Hi all

I intend to implement a storage shared in our vmware infrastructure. And we'll buy DELL or iSCSCI SAN NETAPP.

Could someone pls review the design of SAN attached. Please note that we do not have a vCenter in the environment. And also we have not yet finalized on behalf of initiator SCSI, whether to use a software or iSCSI HBA for this purpose. Is it worth investing in the hardware initiator. Please suggest.

    Kind regards

    Nithin

To use several vmks iSCSI, you cannot assign two network adapters to the iSCSI vmks.

You cannot have an active nic by vmk and the other the vSwitch network adapter must be moved down to "unused controller. Then you can bind to port in the software iSCSI hba adapter. It is the only way to achieve real multichannel, load balancing and failover for multiple iSCSI vmks.

    Here's a KB on how do: http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2045040

But if you google, it has quite a few tutorials with pictures detailed, etc..

  • Aurora - Council MIO in brick?

Recently did a BIOS update to A11, and DELL-Chris M could talk me through a few problems of memory, stick, thanks.  Shortly after my only installed HARD drive died.  Upgrading to an SSD and an additional memory while I was home.  Fresh installation of Windows 7, following an order of drivers I found out Alienware Arena forum I think.  Hadn't gotten deep into Tesla1856 positions again, stupid me.

Problem - at one point that my MIO card seems to have stopped working.  After reading many, many jobs Tesla1856 (very useful, thanks for all the efforts you have put in) I think I might have bricked it by installing the command center off my disk resource (to February 2010) and then upgrade to the current CC 2.8.9.  Probably should have shocked the MIO before the new installation of W7, but had not yet seen the advice of Tesla.

Current state of computer - well boots, fan works very hard all the time.  CC opens but all time and fan speed see the zero.  I tried the power resets and the withdrawal and replacement of the MIO USB connector.  MIO has an orange light, but he died immediately after stopping, I remember holding the light for a while when I was doing all the memory, bios troubleshooting.   BIOS seems to be unable to locate the MIO card.

Tried using the 32-bit diagnostics Alienware my resource drive, but he does not see MIO or lights or anything either.

1 - use the 32 bit my correct resource drive diagnostics?  I don't think that I have a partition more since I did a clean install on new hard drive.

2 - the only 'unknown' device in my device manager is a USB of something.  I only have my monitor, keyboard, and mouse connected, I suspect that the unknown is the jury MIO on USB1.  its okay?  And only CC provides drivers so if uninstalling/reinstalling CC does not do the trick, no luck?

3 - I tried the troubleshooting that I could find in favorites of Tesla185h, at least what I understood and could have access to all.   removal and replacement of the USB of the MIO card are "reset"?

4 - my main question is, making another fees would install Windows 7 and this time having the unplugged MIO and goes directly to the last CC rather than to install one off my original disc of resources likely to help?  or I'm probably looking for a jury of bricks MIO?

5 - Finally, resembles a MIO Board is ~ $100 new dell or $30 used from various online sources, anyone have experience?

After almost bricking my motherboard do the update of the bios, find 2 bad slots for memory cards (using 4 now vice 6), with a matrix of hard drive completely, all within ten days; I'm a little wary to enter for yet another party, there again, not sure I want to go through the hassle of reinstalling the MIO card to have an opportunity an of again soon.

And frankly, I think I'm ready to spend $30 or 100 just to avoid having to do a fresh install of Windows.  I think that there are 250 or so various updates between W7, office, etc.

At least my computer works now starts, Bios A11 works; but with fans all running all the time, is not a long-term solution, of course.

I'm really trying to understand if there is no operation troubleshooting more to do before ordering a replacement MIO card.

Thank you for advice or assistance.

You have an Aurora aka Aurora R1 (x 58 chipset)

0 - this is bad. It should work.

1 - Yes, but the download-able version may be newer

    2. it's bad (I think the MIOs bricks look this way)

    3. No, do not reset. It prevents Windows to do it's hardware initial detection on this subject.

4 - if detected in diagnostic (outside of Windows) equipment, sometimes the second Clean-Install work correctly. Weird, but true.

5 - parts are always a gamble. Vendors claim that everything works fine. Sometimes Yes, sometimes no.

6 - another bet on this system. I would have stayed on the A09.

  • Beginners Overview: ESX to an iSCSI SAN servers

    Hello

I hope I have the right section of the forum to do this, basically

I'm trying to understand how VMWARE ESX server (3.5 if it is one)

the difference) would connect to a SAN and what benefits it would be

    provide.

Apologies if it's really basic, I'm new to both without and VMWare

ESX so I'll try to understand all the concepts, I tried reading

the articles, but they are a little dry for me.

As I understand it, installing it would be something like

    this:

    Physics:

ESX Server & gt; initiating hardware iSCSI (does not support

(software?) & gt; cable network & gt; Turn on SAN & gt; Drive auto.

    Logic:

Something like the creation of a LUN on the SAN itself (via the SAN web page) then use

customer of VI to point to for a data store? Or is there some control of ESX?

It would make sense that images of OS VMWare store customers

on local disks to the ESX Server, so they start from all drives, in which case the SAN is down, then

have the discs on the virtual machines stored on the SAN? Or will keep you

everything about the SAN outside the ESX itself, which could at least

    remain separated from the SAN?

    Any help is appreciated.

The main reason to use SAN storage is to provide shared storage so that you can take take advantage of features order higher than VMware provides as vmotion - the ability to move a running virtual machine form an ESX Server to another with no downtime for users of the virtual machine - DRS based on vmotion allows ensuring that the vms system receive the memory and cpu resources , HA that allows the virtual machine restart on another ESX Server.

The physical scenario you describe needs to be corrected ESX and ESXi, they built insoftware intiators so you don't have a hardware initiator need - but if you choose to use a material to ensure that it is in the HCL - http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php

This document will give you information on the how and why of using SAN storage - http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_35/esx_3/r35u2/vi3_35_25_u2_iscsi_san_cfg.pdf

  • iSCSI Q on simulated review

The port you are talking about is not required when you use the software initiator.  It is not necessary when using the hardware initiator.

  • How many paths with HBAs iSCSI supported - failover?

    Hello

Some time ago, I read when using Software initiator for iSCSI it is only supported to use a path.

    Now for host bus adapters:

When I use a hardware initiator dual port HBA QLogic iSCSI adapter, is it supported to configure each port to connect to the storage on a different subnet?

So that it looks like the FC switch?

    Example:

    HBA port 0: 192.168.1.100

    Storage:

    Storage port r: 192.168.1.1
