I just received my post of October 8, taken over by you on 5 December and assume that your answer could not transmit. Thanks for the attempt and I would be grateful if you can get your answer for me. The current situation is that I stopped the repeated update and had no problems so I can live with the status quo. It may be that quite simply, the update did not apply to me or Microsoft have resolved anyway. Thanks again.

Windows Update fails to install KB974234 and returns the error code 80070641
Previous issues with the installation of the updates or with those who just do not had are released on 11/10, but cannot install KB974234 (published on 10/13). Update returns the error code 80070641.
I am running Vista Home Premium with Office 2007 SP2. Diagnostics Office finds no problem.
Following further discussions, I have (among other attempts): stopped the Service Windows Installer (returns this message "the Windows Installer service is not started"), tried the Patch Registration Cleanup Tool (wouldn't not - said "a productcode must be determined"), downloaded manually updated.
Any help would be appreciated!

Rob,
Thank you very much for all your help, much appreciated.
However, since the execution of all these weird and wonderful packages that I seem to get more funnies on my system. Trying to download pictures from my camera photo using my usual Center solutions HP Officejet and the copy just would not work. I tried Ulead Photo express and the package supplied with my Pentax camera and no force... to receive very strange messages. When I try to run some software, I get a message indicating that a previous installation of Windows Office 2007 did not finish successfully. It would seem that I have installed or uninstalled a few or other software that causes incompatibilities with existing software. Thinking it may be that PhotoImpact, the software provided with a slide scanner and film I bought recently and not could not get to work with the HP photo on the same system software. I used Revo Uninstaller to remove the program and the option to clean up the registry entries of the remains of... Now, I suspect that my registry me am a bit messed up.
Result is, I think I'm going to try to restore my computer to a backup (hopefully) until I started having all these funnies... keeping my fingers crossed!
Thanks again

How to fix error 80070641 and 641?
To the right,.
I have a few annoying problems with windows Vista [to know, update and install]. Whenever I try to install ANY update, it [windows update] fails and spits out 2 641 and 80070641 error codes.
Which is annoying, is that most of the errors is failures of installation for MS Office 2007 and 2003 features [I do not use any that OpenOffice is used]. I tried to uninstall using the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel and the walkthrough [which includes the removal of keys from registry and iinstaller module, but in vain.
I tried to stop and start the Windows update service, nothing helps.
I tried to re-register the DLLs, nothing helps. There is no work around for this problem?
Advice or assistance which may be made will be VERY appreciated [in other words, help me, please and thank you!]
Hello Not_Richard_B_Riddick,
Welcome to the Microsoft Answers Forum!
Please provide us with more information.
(a) may I know what updates fail?
I suggest you to check the updates are at the origin of the problem. Please check in windows update history to verify.
Click Start > type of search box in windows update > windows update-click > click View history of update (left) and search for updates.
I would say as reset you windows update components and then try to install updates and check if that helps you.
Please see the link below to fix:

I hope this information helps. Please get back to us if you have any other questions on this subject.

I had some trouble installing the above update (security for 2007 Microsoft Office system update: KB 2289158). When the update fails, the error I get says:
Code 80070641 Windows update encountered an unknown error
When I click on the link below the error that says "get help with this error, a Windows Help and Support window opens with this in the search box:
"WindowsUpdate_80070641" "WindowsUpdate_dt000"
I did some research and it seems that this error indicates a problem with the installer, but I tried several proposed fixes and none of them work. Defective patches include:
-modification of the parameters of service by Windows install to start automatically and then start it manually, and then try to update
-With the help of the (Administrator) command prompt to manually start windows update, and then try to update
-Use of the (Administrator) command prompt to manually stop the windows update, then try to update
-With the help of the (Administrator) command prompt manually update windows, then rename the files that have been damaged (sorry, I don't know more than what files), and then try to update
-Disable UAC, then try to update
-Use of the Download Center Microsoft to download the specific update and try to install.
What's weird, is that it is the only update with the problem, I can and have installed every update that was shown to me. Recently manually, I started Setup of windows with the command prompt, then run the update. Later, I tried to stop the service and restart, but the service was already stopped. It seems that the installation of windows service is stopped during the update.
I'm running a Windows Vista x 86 machine.
Any help will be appreciated.
