  • Change of tone of window?

I worked in Photoshop since nearly 20 years and this problem is driving me crazy. I work in CS3, version 10.0.1. When you are working on an image, I have a border around the image that is not part of the image itself. In other words, when I open an image, I made dragging the corner of the window to enlarge, then use the toolbar option-apple-space keyboard shortcut for zoom out on the image, reducing its size on my screen and creating a border that is not active, because it is outside the image file. With zoom, this border that surrounds the image is a neutral gray. But twice (the second time about a month ago), using keyboard shortcuts, I pushed a serious wrong to key by mistake and the background area are changing to a black solid. I can't get it back to the neutral gray. I looked in the forum, help files and I can't find anywhere the keyboard or menu option to change the background to gray. Any ideas?

Just right click on this area.

  • When I open too many windows, Firefox slows down

I use Firefox for ever and I am currently using Windows 7 64 bit. As far as I know, that nothing has changed on my end, but Firefox started running slowly after opening the windows of. How I usually use the program and have done for years, is to open pages in a lot of different windows and close them as needed. This does usually cause no problems and I can leave the program running for days at a time, works perfectly well.

Last week however, something changed. Now when Firefox starts up first, it works very well, as expected, but then after a period of time, usually in a day, sometimes within a few hours, it starts sensational "gunked upward." At this point, when I try to load a page in a new window, instead of load instantly, there a second or two, during which I can not move to any other Firefox window, but all other running programs work very well. This State continues and grows slower and slower to load new pages, until I closed and reopened Firefox, then the cycle repeats.

Again, this is a new situation, my normal behavior would not normally cause this kind of slowdown even after a week or more of continuous service. I ran a control of viruses and malware, without success control on either and other programs are not affected. I tried to restart as well, but the problem came back shortly after. I also turned off most of my modules, including those that have worked well for months or years, and still no change, it slogs always down after some time. My Firefox is also currently up-to-date, of course (27.0.1).

    What is going on?

OK, I put some time in troubleshooting and think that I thought about it. After going in and out of safe mode several times, I reduced to a problem with Adblock Plus. With him in the distance, I could open a ton of windows, with it on this subject would begin to slow. A quick workaround solution was that if I went in the menu of the Addon whenever he began to slow down and disabled Adblock and transformed then turn it back on, it would reset the downturn, but I went to their own support site and came across people with the same problem solved by picking up a beta version of the addon. Since the installation, I got no problems.

  • Why does changing the histogram curve tone in sync with the main histogram?

When I set things such as shadows, highlights, exhibition, etc., the histogram changes to reflect these adjustments.  However, the right tone curve window below does not reflect these changes and it is confusing to me as to if any subsequent change, I can do through the tone curve will be accurate.

For example, if I increase exposure, the histogram 'mountain' moves to the right, but I still get the original mountain bite upwards on the left edge of the tone curve, so we don't know how it will interpret any changes I make to the tone curve.

    Thank you

    Jim

    I withdraw the question.

I don't know if my eyes was wrong, but once I put the mouse in the tone curve, it actually puts up-to-date, but not instantly in unison with the principal, who threw me.

  • Satellite L300 - disk drive stops opening

My satellite L300 disc does not eject when I push the top button after a random time. If I reboot, the problem is always the same. If I turn off, the hard drive will immediately work again until by cutting in an hour or two. After learning more again and again on the phone for Toshiba to wipe the computer and start over, I've had enough. I want the email address for the Director or any person to high Toshiba. I'm sick of told to make little stupid things that will not help the computer and having to put up with people who seem to know "tonnes" on windows 7, who do not have a clue what they are even talking.

I want a contact address for someone who will help me (which Toshiba seems to make it difficult to find on their website). I must have spent tons of money on the phone for Toshiba, I have had nothing but problems until they have in a first time for a replacement hard drive. EVEN Microsoft said they gave me incorrect information by Toshiba. Toshiba said I have software problems during the installation of windows 7 kept freezing, even though Microsoft said it isn't supposed to freeze and it is definitely a hardware failure.

In any case, as you can see, I'm not fond of Toshiba and want answers. It is unacceptable to pay money for something that breaks within a year of purchase. The only thing I can find good on Toshiba, is that their call centers are British, which I understand. Please can someone get back to me, even if you work for Toshiba I'll be very grateful.

If there is no I'll be forced to call Toshiba for the billionth time and ask to speak to the Manager, because it is unacceptable, and I am regretting ever buy this machine.

    Hi jacksite2007,

To be honest I n don't know what you want here. Why you want an e-mail address of a Manager from Toshiba? Do you think this can solve your problem? I doubt that
And why you try to contact Toshiba? If you have problems with your laptop, you will need to contact an authorized service provider. Technicians can check your laptop and fix it for you. You should get in touch with these guys here!

    > to wipe the computer and start over, I've had enough.
    Why have you had enough?
Just take the Toshiba Recovery disk to reinstall your laptop. It only takes a few minutes and you have to do only 10 clicks or two to complete this procedure. It is easier than you think. ;)

  • What is the best way to correct the registry errors without the use of a registry cleaner in XP?

I am sorry to raise this issue that so many people who have asked me.  I read pages and pages of discussions on the MS forum on this subject, and without exception, all the experts said Microsoft registry cleaners are completely unnecessary and that junk in the registers has no performance impact at all.  Instead, they say, to do x, y and z.  I am running Windows XP on my desk for five years, and gradually, he got so slow it's almost unbearable.  It takes 10-15 minutes just to start, and sometimes it takes 2 minutes or more just to open a window of browser (IE8) or go to the previous page by using the arrow to the left.  Before you tell me all the things it could be, please let me say that:

    1. my PC has not always been this slow!  It is getting worse.

    2. all my Windows software is up to date.  I have automatic updates on.

    3. I have a lot of disk space, almost 75% of free space on a hard drive of 80 GB.

    4. my PC is free of viruses, spyware and Trojans.  I have McAfee antivirus running and I also sometimes run Malwarebytes and Trojan Killer, because they always find things that don't have McAfee.

    5. I defragment my hard drive on a regular basis.

    6. I regularly delete all my temporary files by using the Windows Disk Cleanup utility.

    7. I have very little, if any "Add-ons".  No toolbar Yahoo or Google (or Bing!).

    8. I removed nearly every program that I start, so that they are not running in the background.

    9. I uninstalled all the programs that I don't use.

However, I still have a slow ever-more computer.  Sometimes, when I see ads on TV to increase the speed of my PC, I download the 'free' software, and they claim to find hundreds or thousands of "registry errors.  When I look at the newspapers, I see many entries in registry for 'Netscape' and 'Google Earth', which I uninstalled years ago, as well as entries for the videos that I downloaded, seen once, and deleted a long time ago.

So, what's the problem?  If it's not related to my registry (which Trojan Killer says has more 6 000 entries!), what else could be?  I would appreciate greatly any advice you can give, because there are dozens of companies on their touting their registry cleaners and the uninstall (for a price) programs, and after reading reviews of the MS MVPs, I'm skeptical of their claims.  Thank you.  :)

I can't disagree with a lot of things have already been said.

I'm willing to accept that your machine does actually takes 10 to 15 minutes on the clock. It's completely absurd.

Some people call your "Windows Rot" problem. Becomes just the slower windows over time. It is a collection of things that are happening in the background. Yes I believe that the register contributes. Using a registry cleaner is not a "magic" solution But it can help a little.

The PC care program/process you described is above average.  I suggest you add CCleaner. Disk Cleanup is not bad, CCleaner is better, cleaning of other stuff which does not resemble the DC. It won't be a significant difference because disk space is not your problem, but it will help a little.

'Play' with the registry is VERY risky. If you decide to go ahead, I would say that first make you a copy of the full image backup using a utility that can be started and run from a CD/DVD. Just in case the registry cleaner breaks of your machine.

Registry cleaners is that they take a "best estimate" to what is no longer necessary. Sometimes they think wrong. And each vacuum cleaner will clean slightly different sets of places.  If the tool does not provide a way to back up the registry before you start cleaning, do not use it. He is not careful enough.

If vacuuming offer 'levels' of cleaning, enjoy. Open for more aggressive cleaning, with resetting and long series of normal use between cleanings.

You are looking for a tool which also makes registry "defragmentation". The registry is a database that get disorganized by additions and deletions. Defragmentation will be re - organize and get rid of a 'lost' space, making it the smallest file, afterwards faster to read.  It is not something you need to do frequently, but since you've never done it in 5 years, it would help, after cleaning registry.

Another place to find CPU and RAM wasted resources is Windows Services. These are small programs that start at boot time. They run in the background and provide support services to all applications or specific applications.  Many applications services are running even though you don't really need them. You can find information on which you can set by Googling for 'Windows XP hardening'. There are a lot of sites with good information. They call it hardening because by disabling unnecessary stuff, you leave less possible openings for the "bad guys" to the attack.

Ultimately, I think your best bet will simply bite the bullet and re - install windows and all your applications. It's the best way to restore your computer to almost any performance fees factory. (It is not exactly factory fresh because you need to add a ton of Windows updates).

Before you re-install, do copy image 1 or more full backups. At least one must be done using a tool that will easily allow you to extract the files. You data backup files separately to make it easier to restore the reinstallation. IE, copy it to a USB key.

Many "experts" actually expect to, and do, re - install windows every 6-12 months!  I think it's a bit exaggerated, but they swear by it.

Once you do your re - install, create a copy of the magnified image
Install a firewall application (before the windows updates)
Once you do all updates of windows, create a copy of the magnified image
After that you re-install all your apps, create another copy of the complete picture.

In this way, in the future, you have more current points to restore your computer to. It will reduce the time you spend to get back to the current configuration.

On a 5 year old XP machine, you have probably 512 MB - 1 GB of RAM. You might also consider taking in the shop (or DIY) and bump the RAM up to at least 2 GB or better still max out.  The current versions of the applications use much more memory than they did 5 years ago. Even XP will be since he has been seriously corrected since then.

  • He had to do something as an fdisk to wipe everything on my hard drive

I installed a new hard drive in the computer of my son a couple of days.  The installation included a ton of windows updates Windows XP Pro.  Everything worked very well this night the next morning, I decided to start the computer one last time before I gave it back to my son.  After I started it, I noticed there was another update to install.  This is the SP 3.  After that I installed and don't reboot, I went into the Device Manager just to check things out and found a few issues that I don't think were there before the SP 3 update.  Under "Other devices", he showed problems with a PCI device, a Serial Bus and a USB controller.

The computer is a Dell E521 and it came with Vista installed on it.  My son wanted to get the hard drive replaced so he could destroy it and he wanted to installed XP because he thinks, that it will sell faster with XP.

I tried to do a repair of XP, which does not solve the problem, and I tried to find the drivers for the PCI device, bus series and the download site controller driver Dell, but have no way to know what drivers will fix the problems and I spent a ton of time on the web, trying to find the drivers with no luck , so I decided that the easy way is to do a Fdisk.  However, after some research, I discovered that you can't do a Fdisk with XP.

Bottom Line: Someone can tell me how to wipe the hard drive and reinstall XP or can someone give me a link that has the necessary steps to wipe the hard drive and reinstall XP?

    Thank you.

  • No wifi on Inspiron 17 5758

I got my Inspiron renovated 17 5758 Tuesday. My internet was down and I was not able to connect it to my mobile access point, but I don't think much.

Wednesday my internet worked once again, and I can't see ANY wifi network. I could use a wired connection and download a ton of Windows 8.1 updates in the hope that one of those triggered it. Nothing.

I've updated to Windows 10 and still no wifi. I tried to run to troubleshoot and repair. I downloaded and updated drivers from the Web site.

Is there something that I am missing? My modem/router is N +, I'll try with a friend tonight, but even if my modem is not compatible, I should be able to see something.

I'd say you have a faulty card or the antenna cables are not connected inside your laptop.

I would contact the seller pronto.

  • Hyperlinks - different settings for internal and external links?

    Hello

I was wondering if it is possible to change the "Open link in a new window or tab" for individual links?

I'm linking to some sites of clients, and for all this, I want the links to open in a new window/tab so that my site remains active behind.

I then several links that are in the anchorages and pages within my site - for the latter, I want they will open in the same window, so the user can use the back buttons and not end up with a ton of windows/tabs open at the same time.

If external link - internal - and open in a new window, same window.  Is this possible?

    Thank you

    Hi Ryan,

You can change the option "Open link in a new window or tab" for individual links.

You must select the links individually, and then make the changes.
