  Just bought a 540cdt Tecra second hand and the keyboard is a bit strange - A key does not work and some of the keys seem to make things weird-UPDATE prints an exclamation mark and key END operates caps lock etc. I don't know if it's a keyboard of knakckered or whether the same strange keyboard configuration has been made. If it's a flat keyboard will install a replacement to solve the problem?

  Also, is it possible to replace the CD drive with a DVD - ROM drive. From the looks of it all DVD players I have met seem to be model specific.

• Satellite A300 - keyboard does not work after cold start.

  I inherited an A300 of questions.

  When you turn on the laptop, the keyboard works at the BIOS level, but once it boots into windows keyboard no longer works. I discovered that by pressing the power button (stop) and then turn the laptop back on brings back the keyboard. (It was in vista).

  If by "I got my laptop to format", you mean you have reinstalled Windows and the problem persists, it is probably a hardware problem. If you have a keyboard that can be plugged into your laptop, there the same problem?

  Try this: from the home screen, press Menu-> settings-> language & keyboard.  Make sure that the trial of Ultra keyboard is checked with the green check mark.  Now press the entry method and select Ultra keyboard trial.  That should make it work for you.  I hope this helps.

  I am trying to install Windows 7 64 bit and my keyboard & mouse stopped working so I can't complete installation. I looked online for a fix and tried to then plug in USB 2 ports, and they still do not work. I found a PS/2 keyboard lying around as it was referred to as a hotfix, however, that the mobo is not any PS/2 ports that will not work. Can you please let me know if you have a work around this? Of course, the Windows 7 installation disc doesn't have the correct drivers for this motherboard?

Line of keyboard under func keys works not just if online using Windows Explorer, Firefox Safari n - numbers don't work - some type; other type letter k; with the SHIFT key, signs and symbols, type anything. I can get the numbers of t using my keypad and numlock. I have tried 3 keyboards.  One was a Microsoft USB 4000 ergonomic keyboard brand new and it had the same problems.  My keyboard USB wireless transmitter had the problem too.  All have the same problem. The keys are correct by using Word, Wordpad, etc.. Quick test repetition key online as well as the keys were all ok then.

  This started happening immediately after I upgraded to windows 7 ultimate.  I use a desktop HP Pavilion a6667c with 8 GB of RAM and the latest updates available for windows ultimate.   The problem occurred before and after the upgrade to service pack 1.   I noticed other people on the web posting on this problem too.    I got no error message when using Vista Home Premium 64-bit version and had installed all the latest updates him as well.

  The only solution I found to this problem is to build me a small table of characters and symbols, I can't do it, and sticking them in when I am online using one of the three browsers I use most often.   I looked at my keyboard settings and changed back and forth between American and British English British without any result.

  I was able to solve the problem on my computer Microsoft Vista but uninstalling constant guard I had downloaded and installed with free Norton from Comcast. I got this tip on another thread and after followinging their advice, I was free to use my line of numbers/symbols of the keys even once! I was able to close my copy of the email and the character or symbol and the last sheet in Word.
