Keyword.URL + browse by name is broken in FF23

My Mac Firefox is advising me that it wants to be upgrade to v23. But the keyword in FF23 Windows url string and I use mac and Pc, I need to work on both every time.

Keyword.URL and browse by name for Google is how to use internet, it is not a feature, it is a requirement.

What can be done to fix this?

Thank you!

  • My service provider broadband (Talk Talk UK) hijacked my keyword.url remotely

Today, when I entered an incorrect text string in the address bar, I was redirected to a page set by my broadband (Talk Talk UK) service provider with links sponsored of suggestions.

I should be redirected to a Google search page as my setting keyword.url is http://www.google.com/search?q=.

Keyword.url value showed still like Google, even if I was now redirected to a pub to Talk Talk.

This is apparently the Talk Talk Service error replacement & to 'opt-out', I had to restart my router.

My concern is that I don't think that this service has been installed through my Mozilla I'm quite fussy about scripts and cookies and you have not installed all the software of Talk Talk, AFAIK.

In addition, the value for keyword.url Mozilla always showed as "Google".

Finally, the fact that I had to reboot my router to choose his fish too.

I am extremely suspicious that Talk Talk have changed my settings for browser without my permission/knowledge.

This happens only now that the page has always redirected to Google before and I've been with Talk Talk for centuries.

Wouldn't think of that this company was involved with our Mozilla.

When you enter a single word in the address bar and press ENTER, Firefox can 'try' a standard fix - up such as:

    www. yourword + .com

If it does not exist, your ISP can intercept the request and return a search page.

However, I think that Firefox should use the keyword. URL for all multiple word strings, because they are obviously not legal domain names, unless something has changed.

Can you confirm that the feature is enabled?

    (1) in a new tab, type or paste Subject: config in the address bar and press ENTER. Click on the button promising to be careful.

    (2) in the filter box, type or paste the keywords and make a pause so that the list is filtered

    (3) If keyword.enabled is false, double-click it to reset to true.

If this is already the case, hmmm, strange... you have bars of tools or other add-ons that might replace the built-in functionality?

  • URL bar do not use keyword.url to search, rather than use any engine is active in the search bar.

Earlier, when I used to get a few words into the address bar and press ENTER, firefox would use the innovation of google by searching for the name and redirect to what I want. For example if I wrote fb, it took me to facebook, and if I wrote something ambiguous it would open a google search for the query.
Recenly, it's somehow changed. I keyword.enabled set to true and the keyword.url is http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8 & oe = UTF - 8 & sourceid = navclient & gfns = 1 & q = but when I enter something in the address bar, it uses the active engine in the search box. If I have active wikipedia in the search box and I type in google in the address bar, it takes me to the page from wikipedia to google.

  • How do I change Google to DuckDuckGo when you CTRL + K or CTRL + J? (I have already changed the about: config > keyword.url)

Hello. I have something I want to change the default behavior, but I can't do it.

Here's what I want to do: I want to change www.google.com to www.duckduckgo.com. However, when I do CTRL + J or CTRL + K he continues to send me on www.google.com.

Here's what I did: I found that the search bar is now useless. Indeed, the "awesome bar" is so awesome that I have basically need the bar more research. Thus, for a long time, I took it.

There is only an advantage. When the search bar disappeared, the shortcut which was to place the cursor on the search bar got another behavior. When I use CTRL + K (CTRL + J), the page would automatically change to www.google.com.

I liked this behavior, because at the time, I used google as my search engine.

But now I want to duckduckgo, I'm kind of embarrassed by it, especially since I cannot change this behavior. I have re-enabled the search bar and changed the search option above to DuckDuckGo, in hopes that will change behavior. He did not.

In addition, as DuckDuckGo has said, I changed on: config keyword.url and keyword.enable.

    But I still have the www.google.com when I press CTRL + K/J

I asked the question to my stream of Diaspora ( http://diasp.org ) and was able to get a solution in the day. Go figure. Before doing this, you will already have DuckDuckGo added to your list of search engine (in the drop box).

Here is the solution. With the permission of ilyse na' IMO kazar

in the subject location bar: config. You will need to confirm when you are advised that «this will void your warranty» You will see a bunch of preferences which, if you have never done this before, you never imagined exist under the hood of the FF.

In the filter bar type browser.search.defaultenginename. In the column 'Value', says Google. Double-click the word Google and a dialog appears allowing you to specify the default engine again. TypeRegeditdans DuckDuckGo exactly as it appears in the drop-down search engines available in your browser. On my Mac the magic string is "DuckDuckGo (SSL)" without the quotes.

About: config and check it, out worked for me!

Hello, keyword.url preference has been removed back of some versions of firefox. you would need this addon for the value still influence: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/keywordurl-hack/

  • try to remove the mywebsearch toolbar, as I can't get the keyword url to reset

I removed the program lists mywebsearch. all helpline instructions tell me to go to about: config and r click on the keyword url, then press reset. When I click right I get nothing that describes remote reset. I tried for days

There is another method, but I advise against it unless you have no other choice, it is to manually edit the file that stores the preferences.

    1. Follow the instructions in the article profiles - where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data to open your profile folder.
    2. Closing of Firefox
    3. Copy the file called prefs.js to another location (just create a backup in case something goes wrong)
    4. Modify prefs.js with a text editor such as Notepad
    5. Find the line in the file that contains the keyword . URL and delete this line
    6. Save the file and restart Firefox to see if that fixes the problem.

Thank you for your question regarding research changes in Firefox. There was a lot of good news, and we are happy to help you.

    What has changed?

In the United States and the Canada, the default search engine has changed from Google to Yahoo. In Russia, Search Yandex will become the search by default, and in China, Baidu will continue to be the default search. However, all the other search engines will be always available in these regions. You will notice this change in Firefox 34.

You want to change your default search engine?

In Firefox 33 or below, you would change your default search bar search engine, as shown in this animation. From 34 of Firefox, you can use one of the following methods:

Note: The following may not apply to localized versions of Firefox.

    • Click the menu button

Select the Options under Windows or Preferences on Mac or Linux, and the parameters of Search Panel.

    • Click on the magnifying glass icon in the search bar, then click on change settings for search, as shown here:

In the search settings panel that opens, select a different search provider menu drop-down (see the screenshot).

For more information, see the article use the Firefox search bar.

  • Y at - it replacement Keyword.URL

I am currently using Firefox 24 and keyword. URL no longer exists in topic: config. Is there another way to possibly customize the awesome bar search engine in Firefox 24?

    • UPDATE *.

I figured out how to customize the search engine bar in Firefox awesome 24. However, I'm not a big fan of the way to do it because I can't customize the search engine, I want to. You must choose from Bing, Yahoo! or Google... I use Ixquick as my search engine and when I install their Firefox search engine is not automatically the awesome bar search engine when selected.

If you do not know how you select a search engine for the awesome bar in Firefox 24 then do you... In the upper right of Firefox, where is the small search box, select the search engine of your choice to search with. This will automatically become the search engine main and Firefox awesome bar search engine if you use the default homepage on Firefox.

The search engine used in the address bar Firefox 23 + is the search engine that is selected in the search bar.

You can consider using a keyword (letter) for the search using the address bar.

You can define a keyword for a search engine that is installed through the Manage search engines (click the icon to search on the search bar engine).

    • Bug 738818 - consolidate the Firefox search preferences
  • with fx 3.6 I wrote for the url, just the name on Facebook for example and it made me automatically on facebook now, I can't and it takes me on google search! What should I do?

I hope I helped and sorry for my bad English...

The change between Firefox 3.6. * and Firefox 4 is how the location bar search. In Firefox 3.6, it uses Google search "search by name". With innovation by the name search, it performs a search on Google and if there is a clear match he will take you on the site, otherwise, it shows the Google search result. With Firefox 4 it performs just a search on Google, if you type in something that is not recognized as a URL.

To get the behavior of Firefox 3.6 on Firefox 4, you must change a hidden preference.

    1. Type of topic: config in the address bar and press on enter
    2. Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    3. Locate the preference keyword. URL, double-click it and change its value on the link below

When I press on a new tab, it automatically redirects me to a search trovi.com site that I don't want. I tried the original which is of about: newtab (more recent sites open), however, when I went to about: config and typed in browser.newtab.url and typed something different and pressed ok, nothing changes just after. It won't let me change anything inside the browser.newtab.url
