L775-11N satellite - control fan

Hello

Is it possible to control the fans on my new L775 Satellite? I'm trying to get them at full speed in order to more effectively cool my CPU and (especially) my GPU, which overheats a lot after a few Crysis or another game.

I would also like to know: does open my laptop to replace the thermal paste (I did it on my old Dell and it helped a lot) might lead to cancelling my warranty or something like that?

Thanks for you answers.
Rallymen007

EDIT: known issue: I forgot to type what the problem was.

One fan control option is located in the peak power plan options > Toshiba power Saver saver > coolig method.

When you play games using high-performance power management and make sure that the cooling method is set to the maximum level.

>.. does open my laptop to replace the thermal paste...
Of course. You should not do it yourself. Incidentally: you have more recent model of laptop, so I put t understand how did you meet the idea of changing the thermal paste. After two years OK but why now?

    Hello

I recently bought a new battery for my Toshiba Satellite L775 11N.

When I plug in the battery, the battery led blinking stars (according to the manual, it means that the battery has any energy and does not load).

When it is plugged in, I cannont start the computer, I have to take and put it after.

What can I do to make my battery work?
This is the second I buy, from two different sites, the number of model is strictly the same.

Thanks in advance, sorry for my bad English (french is my mother tongue)

    Hello

    > This is the second I buy, from two different sites, the number of model is strictly the same.
The part number on the label may be the same, but probably isn t product Toshiba genuine battery.
You probably bought some cheap battery China labeled as a real framework for this model of laptop.

    > What can I do to make my battery work?
You have some many options. If the battery isn't fully compatible and does not, you would need to replace it.

  • L775-11N satellite will not start

    Hello

I bought a L775 almost a year ago, but today it has stopped booting. It freezes at the screen of the BIOS (Toshiba logo).
No HDD LED activity, but all the others are fine.

I think that the HARD drive is defective, as I traded with my portable Linux and it works.

However, (a Seagate Momentus XT ST95005620AS) HARD drive works on another computer and even on Linux with the Toshiba (on an external HARD drive enclosure). He has some bad sectors (INTELLIGENT default), but it works as it should.

I tried to clean the CMOS memory, wipe the HARD drive (using GParted), but nothing.

    Any ideas?

I think it fails because of the CHIP, as the BIOS will not start on this HARD drive because of the errors, but I'm not sure. I tried to update the BIOS (I think that I've upgraded to 1.90 but there is a 2.0 release), but looks like it is a Windows software only.

    Thanks for your replies

EDIT: I can boot the disk when it is inside a USB enclosure.

    Hello

I don t think that this question is related to the failure of HARD drive.
Even if the HARD drive is faulty, the laptop must pass the POST (power self test) properly but it doesn t it freezes to the Toshiba start screen and this means that the POST has not been passed

I think you should check the RAM. A faulty RAM can cause this kind of problem
Otherwise, it could be a serious problem with the motherboard.

  • Satellite L775-11N - Uprgade Windows 10 - FN key problem

Hi all, I have a Toshiba Satellite L775 11N and after upgrading to windows 10, the fn key is still active. I have to press fn key and the SPACE to make a place in the text. It's a big prob!

I already go to bios (no option for the fn key), update all drivers, nothing works.

    Thanks for your help.

Generally in the BIOS, you can switch the Toshiba special function key mode ON and OFF.
Please check if you will be able to change this settings in the BIOS

  • Canoe install Recovery on the L775-140 Satellite image

    Hello world

I have a L775-140 Satellite. I decided to restore my laptop to factory so I ve created 4 CD using preinstalled Toshiba Recovery disk creator tool.

However, when I put the first CD, after a few minutes, there was an error:

    DiskPart successfully formatted the volume.

Copy the files from the basics of recovery

    htmprep...

    Boot...

Error creating file - data error (cyclic redundancy check)

error: database recovery file copy failed!

    Press a key to continue...

What should do? Knowing that I have the recovery CD, is there a way to bypass how to install it?
Could someone help me? In General, I have several problems but I have not found an answer, or find the same situation as me.

    Thank you for your help

This along with the recovery image installation is pretty simple: either it works or not. Problem may be a mistake on recovery discs or perhaps on the HARD drive.
Do you use these disks created for the first time now?
    >... y at - it a way around how to install it?
As much as I know there is not a sort of work around this, you can use to force the recovery image installation.
Try to start the installation once more.

The same message occurs again and again?

  • Satellite A200 - fan works too

    Hello

I will present my problem briefly to you in the hope that I can find a solution.

I work with recording music. My Satellite A200 can handle the processor high and all the rest. I'm really very happy.

But the fan works just too well even when CPU is not used much. I installed The Ultimate Troubleshooter (excellent software) in order to eliminate unnecessary software or process. My RAM is 73% free, low 0-10% CPU and my fan speed is measured at 47 degrees Celsius. My hard drive is 33 degrees Celsius. Very low.

The boring bit, is that my fan is behaving intermittently, but even when nothing is really happening, and the temperature is still very low. I have another laptop to compare to, which is quiet and peaceful in the other corner of the room and only takes action when I activate several operations at once. I wish my Satellite to behave in a similar way.

I cleaned the fans today, and a lot of dust came out. But still the fan curve. I tried to take control using SpeedFan 4.43, but it does not work. I don't see anywhere in the BIOS how I could control the speed of the fan.

I need to find a solution, ideally one that doesn't involve buying a new fan, or disassemble the computer. Since the temperature is right at all times, I guess it's just the BIOS programming for constant speed activity that must change. Any suggestions? It would be appreciated.

    All the best, Shlomi.

    Hi shlumaan_1,

    > I cleaned the fans today
How did you do that? Did you follow the instructions?
How to clean a Toshiba laptop cooling system?

There are different reasons for activity high fan and dust that blocks the fan, the thermal paste should be renewed, etc..

Fact is that the fan will be controlled automatically to protect the equipment from overheating. What you can do is chancing the cooling method in Windows power management. I put t know what operating system you use but on Vista and Windows 7, open the power management options, change the parameters of the plan, cooling method. You can change between maximum performance and battery optimized. I would recommend setting the optimised battery.

Also, check the BIOS version. If you have an older version, probably thermal management has been changed with a new version of the BIOS. Update the BIOS that you find on the official website of Toshiba.

Finally, and especially if your laptop probably has a few years, that the thermal compound must be renewed. This is why I would contact an authorized service provider that will apply the correct thermal grease and also the laptop must be disassembled. Not so easy

  • For Satellite P100 fan controller

    Hello

    I have a Toshiba Satellite P100 PSPA6A-01J017
Dual processor Intel t2400 (1.83 GHz)
NVIDIA gForce GO 7900 GS 512 MB
    1gig ram
Under Widows XP PRO - SP2

I searched the forum for a fan controller, with a poor result. I downloaded Notebook Hardware Control 2.0 and other similar monitoring software.
Still, I can't control the fan. I often have my laptop on my lap, making the heat more worrying than the noise, the music is always enabled for max :)
So if there is any way I can control the fan to work more and cool the CPU even faster, that would be great.
I slowed down temp around 60 degrees now and the area on the side left (WSAD) is very hot.
If I can change some thermal Tables or force the fan to operate on Max would be great. Anything to bring the fan to the top.

In my opinion, no need to buy a cooling pad, as the fan must be turning at high speed if it does not, then I must consider that as a second option.

    Greetings and thanks
    Anders

    Hello

It is a book of very high performance with high CPU and powerful graphics card.
All the features of this produce a lot of heat. Also, I saw on the page of Toshiba, the laptop is very mobile and easy to use in all situations.
How the circulation of fresh air should work properly? Fans and cooling modules must turn to ensure good cooling.

In any case, on my laptop Toshiba Toshiba energy saver is responsible for cooling and control of the CPU module.
I think the same thing on you laptop. Check the settings in the energy saver and set it up.

  • Update BIOS 2.20 - WIN32 - Satellite A200 fan activity

    Hello

I bought the Satellite A200 on February. So far, it was all right. I've recently updated my BIOS to 2.20 unfortunately. Now my fan runs constantly. I changed the graphics settings, stopped some unnecessary programs loaded during startup. Nothing is done, the fan works. Is this normal?

Before updating the BIOS he made completely different. All started for a while with force almost complete and that gradually collapsed. Now, he is constantly working with the same speed, but never stops.

    Please help :(

I imagine that the Toshiba engineers have changed some values in the BIOS settings. What you can try is to change the METHOD of COOLING in saving settings.

You can find under > Panel control system & maintenance Power Startup Options? Select a settings change plan Plan to modify the Toshiba Power Saver V.xxx cooling method advanced power settings

  • Satellite A660 - Fans is very strong

    Hello

Ive recently bought toshiba satellite a660 11 m, its great, but his fans are very noisy even when im doing nothing (zero open applications)
When I open the toshiba pc health monitor he always says temp: 50 c on avrg and fans * always * on 68 to 70%. (now when im typing this fans are at 68% and only google chrome opens sometimes it looks like his office, no cell phone)
Note that laptops is 3 weeks old, so I doubt there is any dust in the cooling system.
Anyone else having this type of problem?
    THX

    Hello

What to say... My a500 is also great noise even I tried upgrading the Bios, play with power settings, cleaning of cooling system. fan control utility like speedfan and many other things but still... I just don't pay attention to the noise of the fan. You can reduce the noise loading the Cpu with some applications so that the fan continues to constantly operate at 54% with a less noticeable noise.

  • Satellite A500 - fans never stops

    Hello

I did some experiments with methods of cooling of vista...

First of all, when I start my satellite A500, something like three minutes before the fan to start very quickly.
When I opened the Toshiba PC Health monitor, temperatures never exceed 40 ° C, but the fan runs at 70%
Then temperatures decline to something like 35 ° C, but the fan never cease!

It's exactly the same with the two methods of cooling of the vista power management or the difference is really subtle.

But a strange thing is when I change the method's cooling performance to economy of execution while the fan is running, then it stops! And it starts again only when the CPU start to become warmer. But again, it remains always under 40 ° C. I think that's not so hot... and the fan noise is annoying when I want to have quiet little.

So in my opinion, there is a problem.
If I could change the settings in the economy mode, I would reduce the speed of the fan and I would like to raise the temperature when the fan should start. And when the temperature decreases the fan should stop or slow down to become quieter...

Thank you for your attention and sorry for my bad English ^^

    Hello

You said that the fans run at 70%
This would mean that the cooling modules run with maximum performance, if the temperature remains at the lower level. and that means that the cooling system control module working properly.

Also you talk about the temperature of the CPU. But there are additional devices such as GPU and HDD that creates the heat dissipation.
This means that the internal temperature would be different from the temperature of the CPU... possiby is higher...
That could be one of the reasons why the cooling modules don't stop and run with lower performance.

However, you should check if your BIOS is up to date.
If the most recent version was released then it s recommended to update the BIOS.

    See you soon

  • Re: Satellite A300 - fan does not work after installing Win7

    Hello.

I did a new install of Win 7 pro 64-bit, and after it does not my fan, not at the start or in Windows. To check if it the fan itself was broken I re-installed Vista instead and the fan worked again!
Installed new Win 7 but now it's silent :( I checked in the BIOS (latest version 1.80) but I couldn't find any option here. Am I missing a driver or something?

My Satellite canned extinguishing because of this, so I would really appreciate help :)

Hmmmm... really strange. I use Win7 32 bit on my Satellite A300-1LI and it works perfectly.
Maybe a stupid question now, but have you tried to use the 32 bit version?

You have also installed all the Toshiba drivers Toshiba value added package (includes the Toshiba power saver tool)?

  • Re: Satellite C660 - fan starts then stops

    Hello

Sorry for my English, I'm French, I have a Toshiba Satellite C660 laptop a few days ago and I noticed that the fan starts and stops every minute at any time when the temperature exceeds about 40 degrees (noted with SpeedFan).
Even if I'm just the desktop, the Internet. However, it does not heat up much. Is this normal?

Before I had a laptop and the fan stops, but almost never had low-noise. I prefer it, but it's can be a simple matter of habit for the Toshiba...?

    Hello

Try it please change cooling method option in the advanced power settings.

Open power options > n a click your power profile that you use > choose the advanced power options > Toshiba Power Saver Settings > cooling method > change two optimized battery options.

I think that this will reduce fan activity.

    Please test and send feedback.

  • Satellite R630 - fan runs all the time

    Hello everyone,

I have a Satellite R630, and I'm happy with it. But there is one thing that makes me angry... the fan! It runs ALL the time. I browse a little... the fan works. I work with the office, or something... the fan works. To clarify: the CPU is not used, there is no heavy processes running, and the Notebook\CPU is cool. There is no reason why the fan should work, all the laptops that I had before where calm in the same situations. Of course it is not a problem if it starts working if necessary (a game, looking for a HD video or something). But not without reason!

Someone at - it a solution for this problem? A tool to fix the fan speed\intervals manually, or better: an update of the bios (in the version 1.4 and 1.5 I can choose what I want... the fan did not stop execution). It is also quiet in Linux or any other operating system.

@Toshiba: (!) Please do something. The only solution for me right now is to return the laptop to the store. :-(

    Best regards
    Imk82

    Hello

Hmm... If you have already installed the latest BIOS updates, you should check the cooling of Windows Power management settings. Generally you can switch between different methods of cooling as you can read here:

  • Satellite Z930 - fan reviews all in flash for example YouTube

    Hello

just a question on my Satellite Z930-130 with Win8 new fan.

In fact you can not hear the fan for example. with pdf files
but when you watch a video on youtube, the fan starts and 2 min later it stops

    Is this normal?

    Thank you

Of course, it's normal. At the moment when you want to watch the video more graphics card performance is necessary and material to increase temperature. The motherboard sensors noticed this and cooling fan will be activated.

    It s nothing unusual.

  • Satellite U940 - fan of strong cooling after Windows 8.1 update

    Hello

I have a month old Satellite U945-S4390 and I started to have this problem after the upgrade to Windows 8.1 a few days ago.

I started windows 8, and the fan returned to be quiet.
When I reinstalled windows fan 8.1the began once more to be strong.

I am convinced that it is a matter of 8.1 for Windows (at least for me).

Anyone else having this problem? All proposed the solution?

    > I started windows 8, and the fan returned to be quiet.
    > When I reinstalled windows fan 8.1the began once more to be strong.

After winning 8.1 update, you must install all drivers and utilities Toshiba as a pilot system of Toshiba in the right order.
The Toshiba driver page provides installation instructions for all models of 8.1supported Win.
Installing these drivers is very important about the functionality of good laptop
