LabVIEW TEN compared to the speed of development system

Hi all

I worked on some software labview, which is called by Teststand. The target system has a labview license so I was not initially concerned by the RTE, but then after working with another company, I discovered that they were creating their VI then in turning them into .NET Interop assemblies and calling those rather than directly to the VI. When I asked them about this, they said they did it because he had run more quickly using the RTE rather than the full development system.

My question is has anyone know if through the VI RTE is actually faster? If so can I just change the setting to use the RTE and reach the extra speed of the Teststand adapter or changing to an Interop Assembly .NET would be necessary?

WARNING: I am a material engineer who hated the programming, but try to learn it as fast as I can now that I don't have a software engineer. While I'm not familiar with some concepts/terminology/best practices so patience is appreciated

All things being equal, an executable will go faster because debugging (default) stops on the code. This will make faster, more when debugging is disabled, there is more the optimizer can do during compilation. Or that's the theory. Personally, I never noticed the difference.

Here are the instructions to burn a cd for the disk to boot Hiren that you can then run checkdisk, a memory test and other tools

    Courtesy of Jose Ibarra

Do you have a Hiren Boot CD, which you can download here:

    http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/

The ZIP file is large, so the download will take probably a little while to complete the bit it is worth.  Then unzip the download to extract the Hirens.BootCD.ISO file that will be used to create your new bootable CD.

Create a bootable CD. ISO file is not the same as simply copying the. File ISO onto a blank CD.  You must use software that includes how to burn a. ISO to a CD to create a bootable CD.

In the file Hiren ZIP are the file BurnToCD.cmd that you can double-click to start, but I've never used and prefer to use ImgBurn.

If you need a simple and CD burning, this is a free software popular software:

    http://www.ImgBurn.com/

When you install ImgBurn, DO NOT install anything from UniBlue or the Ask Toolbar (never install the ASK toolbar for nothing).

Here are some instructions for ImgBurn:

    http://Forum.ImgBurn.com/index.php?showtopic=61

It would be a good idea to test your new bootable CD on a computer running.

You may need to adjust the computer BIOS settings to use the CD-ROM drive as the first device to boot instead of the hard drive.

These adjustments are made before Windows tries to load.  If you miss it, you will need to restart the system again.

When starting on the Hiren's CD, you will see a menu of options.  Choose Mini XP.  It will appear while Windows is loading and you will be presented with a desktop computer that has the look and feel of the interface of Windows Explorer, you are already accustomed to using.

A way to check the drive for errors is to open my computer and right-click on your afflicted player and choose Properties, tools, error, check checking now... put a check mark in the boxes and then start.

Sometimes that works, then you can also click on start, run and in the type box:

    cmd

Click OK to open a command prompt window and enter the following command (assuming that XP is installed on your C drive)

    CHKDSK c: /r

This disk check can last a long time (perhaps several to several hours) depending on the size of the volume, the amount of data on the volume and what the disk check finds to do.

Let chkdsk finish to correct the problems, he could find.

According to the speed of your system, the size of the volume, the amount of data on the volume and what chkdsk finds to do, he may take a long time for chkdsk with error correction to complete (several hours) or it may seem to be 'stuck '.  Be patient.  If the HARD drive led blinks always, chkdsk is something to not interrupt him.  It finally end one way or the other.  Keep an eye on the amount of the percentage to be sure that it is still making progress.  It may even seem to go back sometime.

You may need to run Chkdsk c:/r more than once.

  • Difference between the version of the Runtime and Developer version of LabVIEW.

There is a version of the separate Runtime for each version of LabVIEW.  You can open NI MAX and develop software to see what is installed on your computer.

Is this only for the visualization of the screws built in developer version LabVIEW?

Without the development environment, you cannot change screws LabVIEW.  The runtime engine is responsible for actually running the code in order to integrate LabVIEW executables and run them on other machines without the development environment.

Can't we develop or modify TENS of LabVIEW version screws?

    NO.

  • Missing link in the file write Key.vi LabView after switching LV development system server to RTE

    Hello

    TS4.2 LV8.6.1

I have a strange behavior of TS. All of the code works well under the development system. But when I pass the server of LabView runtime LabVIEW development system then, during the call one of my screws (action step calling the LV adapter), I have the window 'vi search' open looking for the Key.vi to write (one of the interns LV VI). Finally, is the write file Key.vi and TS is happy, however, I don't want it to happen on the production floor.

Is this a bug or I have some sort of option or something?

Why this does not happen under the development environment? What is the mechanism?

    K.

    (1) more complex nodes in LabVIEW are stored in vi.lib.  This is not uncommon.  Are not only very basic items (add, subtract, table functions, etc...).  They are usually yellow and you can not open them.

    (2) they need to go somewhere, and vi.lib is the standard location for all built-in screws

    (3) instr.lib is very similar to vi.lib, just a different location.  LabVIEW stores a relative path for the screws here called in.  This path does not exist with the runtime, although TestStand will add it in the search directories if you installed LabVIEW Development.

    (4) if it is possible to use LabVIEW to do this, there are more ways to get into trouble, because doing it this way would never update your sequence or find problems that would be specific to TestStand.  Is there a reason why you don't want to use the TestStand deployment utility?  Behind the scenes, TestStand calls in the same frame as LabVIEW for the deployment, but do it with more knowledge that LabVIEW alone would have.  This can be done, but there are more considerations, and you can meet potential problems.  Unless you have a good reason for this, it is generally not advisable.

I recommend reading the chapter on deployment in the handbook here (Chapter 14):

  • Fingerprint memory for the LabVIEW 7.1 development system

    Hello

I would like to know the size memory for LabVIEW 7.1 full development System. Both during the installtion and to develop applications later.

If anyone can help. Thank you.

There is no one answer for this, as this varies considerably.

For what is on the disk, if my memory serves, the 7.x base takes a few hundred MB, but which could greatly inflate according to the modules and drivers you add.

For the RAM, I believe than 7.0 used to identify approximately 20-50 MB immediately after loading, but this number then would also change a lot over time depending on what you are doing. Loading, editing and execution of code just regularly change the amount of RAM used.

Why do you ask? Also, are you aware that 7.1 is relatively old now (came out 7 years ago)?

  • I want to control the speed and direction of a motor continuous using labview with pwm

I want to control the speed and direction of a motor (essentially a toy motor) continuous generating a PWM signal in labview. I'm using L293d motor and exit DAQ-9472. Can I do this without the help of any microcontroller but only a simple labview code and the DAQ 9472 output

There are many examples on how to generate a PWM on one in the buffer, or on a counter, but that does not support this card.  A 8 a cDAQ chassis also a BNC connector that can be used as a counter as well.  These examples can be found in help > example Finder in LabVIEW.

Also be aware of your current limiting.  This card can drive a decent amount of current, but it has its limits.  You'll want to put an inline meter to see what is current and see how far you get to it.

I can regulate the speed of the fan in my laptop (Satellite Pro L650 - 15 c)?

The reinstallation of Windows 7 the fan is always moving up. How can I set this fan?

    greeting of the developing countries

    Hello

Open windows power management and settings for the management of the power supply you use. You will find the advanced power option. Open it and you will find Toshiba power saver options.

Open all the available option and check the settings of the cooling method. Set to optimized battery option.
This should reduce the speed of the cooling fan.

Please test and validate the results.

    > Some of the drivers for this laptop are outdated compared to the most recent drivers on peripheral manufacters website. Is it safe to use these new drivers or is it recommended to stick with the old drivers that are on the Toshiba site?
Why you want to update your drivers? Do you expect a gain of performance with newer drivers?

Way General, with official Toshiba drivers you are on the safe side because they are pre-tested. If you can make sure that they work properly and don t cause property damage. Install the other drivers happens on your own risk!

The laptop is equipped with modules of DDR3 1066 MHz and the RAM speed is dependent on the FSB of the processor. If your CPU is throttling down, RAM modules will work also on low speed. On a high utilization of the processor (100%) the RAM modules must run with speed of 1066 MHz I think.

    Hello

Unfortunately, this is not possible on the laptop.

I o year owner of 3 different computers; two laptops and a desktop PC. The BIOS on the desktop is different and allows to change and increase the CPU. But the laptops BIOS does not allow to do something similar.

Why? Because the CPU overclocking would increase the internal temperature and make portable is not stable and perhaps that it would infringe the motherboards and CPU!
The notebooks run with maximum efficiency. If you compare the notebooks modules with cooling Office cooling modules you will see the difference!

Please don t waste your time and don t find any possibility to overclock the CPU and the FSB

  • Measure Z to a battery encoder encoder pulse frequency to measure the speed using a 6034 E card

    Hello

I want to measure the speed of a motor that has an encoder to encoder hung on battery. It provides impulses 3 A, B and Z I uses a PXI 6034 E card. I wanted to know if there are any examples/ideas that could help me with this (I'm new to digital programming in Labview). I moved to NI Daqmx 9.8 recently of the old version that has supported the existing codes and therefore being updated the code. I also want to know if an external clock source is needed to do this. This.

    Hello

There are several examples in the finder OR example (you can get here by going to help > find examples in a window of LabVIEW). You can browse examples of Encoder on input and output material > DAQmx > entry counter. You should be able to find some examples that will be useful.

In addition, this link is a good resource to get started using DAQmx: http://www.ni.com/white-paper/5438/en

  • Calculate the speed of the target by using photoelectric sensors 2

I use 2 photoelectric sensors mounted parallel to each other. As the target passes in front of the sensor, the signal of output voltage goes from 0V to 10V. Because I know that the distance between the sensors, I need to use the difference of rise time of the signal between the sensors to calculate speeds. I can do that when I export the data to excel, but I would do it automatically into my LabVIEW code.

The data of my sensors are the type of waveform. I can extract the waveform (t0, dt, Y) components using 'Get waveform components' and then look for the timestamp for each value using t0, dt and index value. I need to calculate the timestamp of each sensor once the signal passes to 10V (Y = 10V). I can't extract the components of waveform for signals from sensors (seems to only be able to extract the components for a sensor) and once I extracted components, setting up my calculation of the speed. I think I need a case structure to save the timestamp, once the signal hits first 10V (if Y = 10V save timestamp; if Y = 0V continue indexing of values).

Any suggestions on the extraction of components of form of wave or indexation of values and calculation speed are greatly appreciated! The code I wrote to collect signals is attached.

    Thank you very much

    Alberto M.

Here is a sample of the signals of the sensor showing the difference of signal rise time.

    1. you must use the finished sample mode and read all samples.  To match what you have, I would use 10 k samples.  That would be 5 seconds worth of data.  This eliminates the need for the while loop and gives you the full waveforms.

    2. just use the base trigger level detection VI (in the Signal Processing-> measures of waveform-> palette of Waveform Monitoring) to get the time for every rising edge.  Then it's a simple subtraction and divide.

In addition, if you want to make things even easier, you could have used a camera with a meter of A - B.  Then the meter gives you just the time difference directly.

  • Increase the speed to setting 5672/PXI-5671?

    Hello

I was wondering if it would be possible for materials OR to include an option on NOR-RFSG drivers later to increase the speed at which the lock 5672/5671 on a frequency? Will you please correct me if I'm wrong but I think that the reason why it takes a long time for the converter will sometimes be resolved is because he is trying to get a high level of accuracy when the configured frequency locking. Is it not possible to give a developer the ability to relax the constraints of precision so that the converter captures a faster frequency? I'm looking to reach speeds of adjustment faster than 10ms, regardless of the size of step frequency setting. I know that there are other variables that influence the speed of adjustment of the hardware, but I know that I realized a 45 ms speeds setting before as mentioned in this other post I did long ago http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=270&message.id=4749&query.id=320040#M4749.

I'm sure that, in order to do this, if possible, there will be some changes of deep level in the RFSG code driver but I hope that it is possible.

    Thank you

    Tim Sileo

You are absolutely right with your assumptions.  The speed of adjustment is limited due to other factors, including the accuracy of the configured frequency.  Therefore, a limitation of the actual hardware, even with driver updates, this feature would not be possible.  I want to point you at the suggestion of product section where you can enter any suggestions for new features, as it is something that our new RF hardware will be able to support.
