  Not sure I know what you mean. LR do not edit your original files. LR never change your original file they are jpg, TIF or one of these RAW, including DNG file formats.

  What LR will do if you have the option set in the catalog settings of "writing automatic variation XMP", it's put the changes that you have a JPG file in a special section of the JPG file (and in the catalog file) will not change the original file. If you view this original JPG file outside of LR, any changes that you made in LR will be included, they will not be displayed. Only in LR will display these changes.

  What you have is a corrupt file that is caused by a hardware failure. As noted by dj_paige.

  To remove all changes made to any file in LR, you click the Reset button in the bottom right of the module development. In the section historical left date back to the first entry that should be the date of importation or the date that you created the virtual copy.

  Here's my problem - I did a photo shoot yesterday and the day before. When I imported the photos, I inadvertently sent them the wrong drive (i) - which is my backup disk rather than (d) my drive to work.

  Since then, I tried 1.) import them to the good drive (d :)) 2.0 export the player OK (d) - but when I did they were possibly set for display on the web and then resized to small format JPEG.)

  These, I can't use change in lightroom or view effectively even properly.

  Have tried to move the files on the drive, I am not allowed to because they exist already - same with the export of the corrected files. I simply go MAD after 12 hours trying to solve this simple problem!

  Anyone with a viable suggestion will be appreciated. Please try to be useful though - I think I tried the BASIC solutions and would welcome a direct method to solve this problem.

  I think I still have the original on my camera cards - and would be happy to delete exerything and re import if there is no insurance, it would be a solution that worked.

  You just need to drag and drop files from the wrong place to the desired location.

  If you need to move only a small number of files, you can do this from the 'files' Lightroom Panel.

  If you need to move a lot of files, you're better off moving them using your OS tools (finder or explorer) and then "move" the file in LR.

  Importing files a second time, it is never the right answer.

  Pictures has the ability to add GPS data to an image file, but stores the GPS data in a catalog instead of the actual image file.  The same seems to apply to the rotation of the image.  Is there a way to force the Photos up-to-date the actual image file?

  The only solution I have found so far is to export images updated, remove them from the library of Photos and re - import.  This process, however, replaces the original creation date with the date of the export in the file.  (i.e. a photo taken in 2007 with a creation date of 2007 will now have the date it has been exported photos as a creation date.)

  The reason why I want to update the original file, it is that I use Google Photos automatically create albums using the content of the image, the GPS data and dates.  The backup utility Google downloads the file Master Original therefore excludes files and changes to images in the photos.

  No, Photos will never alter the original image file.

  You can export the photo with the GPS and reimport with file > export and activate "include location information:

  

  Or use a tool to add location data before importing photos to Photos. I use Jetphoto Studio.

  If the time that you synchronize the images of the Lr Mobile Lr Office, the original image will remain on your phone, but Lightroom will create smart image previews.

  Is there a hidden feature in Lightroom that will allow me to edit, or back up my original JPEG files, destructive?

  Normally, I would never change my own originals, but there is in the project that I am currently working about 255 JPEG images taken with an iPhone and already arranged in a video slideshow in first. However, someone didn't bother to change levels or color correct it at any time, and I do not want to completely re - build all of the video sequence.   If you have Photoshop, you can consider opening the original JPEG and using save for Web to create a new version so that Photoshop can rewrite the JPEG and eliminate the possibility there is something wrong with the image file that is to be place/imported to the Muse.

• Lightroom 4: beginners about Jpeg quality issues, settings, and workflow etc.

  I'm about to start editing pictures and using Lr (4) for the first time. This is why I have a plethora of questions about JPEG and Lr 4 files. I apologize in advance for the obscene length and perhaps bad English.

  I currently shoot RAW, but I have thousands of JPEG files. I would like to avoid losing the quality of JPEG images (by re-record and recompression unnecessarily) and be able to manage and edit them as efficiently as possible.

  Could you please confirm or correct the following assumptions:

  1 Lightroom 4 only re-record and re-compress JPEG images when you export the. So there's no loss of quality, no matter how much and how many times you change (in the develop module or by altering the metadata by adding keywords etc.) before exporting it. In addition, the exported file is a copy and the original is left as is, then you can continue to work on the photo without loss in Lr.

  2. the metadata record (recording manually or have the "Automatically write changes into XMP" - option on) to the XMP space inside the JPEG file does not cause re-record and recompression of JPEG in a way that would result in losses of quality (it only changes the image of the file part).

  3 point number 2 is true even if you choose to include parameters in the metadata to develop by turning 'Include develop settings in metadata in JPEG, TIFF, and PSD files'.

  4. recording of metadata in JPEG format changes the date for change as indicated in the Finder. There is no way to avoid this parameter or dresser.

  5. "automatically write changes into XMP" and "Parameters of development to include it in the metadata in JPEG, TIFF, and PSD files" must be turned off, unless you plan to edit these files in another program that includes the data (for example another copy of Lr, Photoshop, Bridge etc.).

  6 original JPEG can be exported without recompression and loss of quality by choosing export as originals. In this case, no retouching (balance of whites etc.) will be visible, but the changes in the metadata will be present (only) if the metadata has been saved in the JPEG described in points 2 and 3.

  7 JPEG files can be renamed to import or later without recompression and quality loss (even if this information is not only stored in the Lr catalog because the name is also changed in Finder etc.).

  8. There is no advantage to convert a JPEG to a lossless (i.e. DNG) format if you plan to change them in Lr and then export the final versions.

  9 goal profiles only work on RAW images. However, you can change lenses profiles to make them fully applicable to JPEG as well. All you need to do is change "True" to "False" in the following line of the XMP file:

  [stCamera:CameraRawProfile] True [/ stCamera:CameraRawProfile]

  10. the JPEG file should never be resaved in JPEG, but in Lr is not possible without exporting.

  11 create virtual copies, moving between folders etc. does not cause recompression or quality loss.

  A. are there any (other) settings or practical should I be aware of or avoid in order to not lose the JPEG quality?

  B. Si the workflow with JPEG files are different in someway RAW workflow in order to achieve maximum quality / efficiency.

  C. is there a separate edition of the presets for JPEG and RAW files? If so, FIRST presets can be applied to the JPEG format as long as the look resulting is nice?

  (D) where can I find good profiles goal JPEG (for the K-5 of Pentax or Olympus XZ-1), free JPEG editing presets and Lr tutorials on editing of JPEG, such as how you can change certain settings without going overboard etc. ?

  After searching around I can't find an answer to a simple question. If I open a jpeg image and edit "with or without" layers, flatten then (in the case of layers) the image and select the "save under" command and rename the file or select 'as a copy", will be my original jpeg suffer and adverse effects if I do not save the original file? I often hear talk about destructive editing and thicknesses, etc. I tried the same photo of edition three times without saving the original and the file size is the same, which suggests that its non-destructive control, but would like a definitive answer. Thanks in advance

  Quite correct.  In short, there is no possibility of "destruction" If the original file is never overwritten!  Something I like to do from time to time.

  As side note, in a raw format to take pictures to keep things straight, there is simply no ability to crush a raw file with file - save.

  Hi, there, I'm new to the software 'flash' and I'm happy to use it. However, I have a fundamental problem.
  
  I can import jpeg fine images, and I can view on my stage; but when I do a "test" mode, I get instead of the red boxes, where the photo images must be. the sizes of the red boxes are the same as the original JPEGs, but they are completely red and no picture is visible.
  
  I have no idea how display them in my 'test' mode... What am I doing wrong? or what I forget? :(

  to answer your question, no, I'm not breaking the image apart (Ctrl + B); However, I have finally solved the problem. Well, I do not understand what the real problem was, but I found a way to fix it. at the beginning, I was just "insert object" in the "Edit" menu However, after the 'import' in the 'file' menu, everything worked fine. I could see jpeg, gif and png files in 'test' mode, while I couldn't before. they charge very well on the stage, but when in "fit" them as objects, they were not visible in "test mode". "import" works beautifully.

  I misunderstood the process, or something just does not work w / the program.

  I was wondering if someone could quickly help me in understanding how the development parameters are read in lightroom... (I use lightroom 3.6) that I just had a little bit of panic that my lack of understanding of the system could have missed a bit!

  As I do all my image DIY on a laptop with a small disc, I am often archiving of directories of images to an old server, we have, and then just get on my laptop whenever I need it again. I have a single on my laptop lightroom catalog, and I thought (now I think wrongly!) that all my settings updated is stored only in the catalog of lightroom on my development laptop and so I kept a copy of the original jpeg images hit somewhere so that I could bring my laptop when needed, I could always go back to the version most recently published of my images. Often, I copied an images directory from the server to the laptop, retouched with lightroom, then deleted the jpgs of the laptop thinking that the originals left on the server would be sufficient to restore my work later.

  But recently just before the deletion of a lot of JPGs of the laptop, I did a quick comparison with the server and is horrified realize that the files if it is different, and that changes * are * written in jpeg files! Research in lightroom I have the 'include develop settings in metadata in JPEGs [etc.]' lit.

  My questions would be:

  1 have I lost their jobs by effectively removing metadata from jpeg files or is also preserved in the catalog?

  2 What if some develop settings of an image are stored in the catalog, and a completely different set of development settings have been stored in the file - which should be a priority?

  3. have I screwed up, and if so is there anything I can do to minimize the damage? : {

  1 Lightroom ALWAYS stores the changes in its catalog file.

  2 Lightroom ALWAYS uses changes in the catalog file. The information stored in the JPG file are NEVER used to display the image in Lightroom.

  3. as long as you do not remove the photo from the catalogue, you are well, your changes are present in the file catalog and Lightroom can use those to display the image.

  If you moved the server, using Lightroom (or photos using Adobe Lightroom - find folders and files moved or missing), there is no need to bring your laptop. You can leave photos on the server and access the server and everything works fine

• in the photos on macbook pro installed yosemite pictures have a letter J in the corner and I can't change them

  Some of my photos have a letter "J" in the corner, and I can't change them with photo-editing tools. Someone knows why?

  The letter 'J' means that the photo is part of a pair of "GROSS" and "JPEG", and the JPEG file has been selected as the original image file.  If the RAW file is selected as the original, you would see an 'R' in the corner.

  What exactly happens, when you try to change these photos? You get a message from a missing file? Or what's happening?

  Try to pass the original JPEG on the original RAW.  Open the image in EDIT mode, if you can and then use the command "Image > use RAW as the Original. This command is only available in edit mode.

  

• iTunes will not find any information for the CD already in the library when reuploading of lossless

  I'm downloading all my CDs to iTunes in the form of files without loss. All of them are currently in my library as mp3s. Why iTunes can't recognize and fill in all the information for me, I have more than 2000 download, many of them are collections of course of b-sides and live concerts. The only time where iTunes fills in the info for me is when I insert a purchased disc and only then, if I'm online. Many of these discs made House also have blankets make home for which the original jpeg files have been lost on an old computer. ITunes definitely has the ability to recognize a disc that reflects the amount of titles and sometimes tracks that already exists in its own library. Am I missing something really obvious and basic here?

  iTunes uses the Gracenote CDDB service to retrieve the title of the CD, the track names, etc.  This is based on matching a "signature" issue of track numbers and durations for a complete disc, not the tracks.  It won't recognize not so CD "home made" unless you used the option to download the metadata for a specific drive of Gracenote.  iTunes has a capacity to recognize the CD that have been imported before, but the data that supports that are stored in one of its preference files, not in the iTunes library and so actually works only if you import on the same PC you used for the previous import.  Since I have while I did use or test this feature, so I'm not 100% sure what limits there - I think it depends on access to metadata for a disc of content before you import it, not after.

  Also, although Gracenote does support the images work that they are not used by iTunes - the function get Album artwork (when it's working properly) gets images on the iTunes Store, based on the correspondence of the values of the artist and Album.  Works of art created by the user, you need to have access to the original files or a backup of them.

  Hello. I always import my photos into Photos and since today the letter J is displayed in the left corner at the bottom of the photo. What it means. If I import the photo in iphoto, it does not appear.

  The letter 'J' means that you have imported your photos from your camera as RAW & JPEG pairs.

  You put your camera in RAW format?  If the camera is in shooting JPEG and RAW file photos, the images will be imported stacked. Indicates it that pictures use the JPEG version as the original images to calculate the published versions.  If you switch this to using the RAW version you would see an 'R' instead of this.

  

  To switch between the BULLY and the original JPEG image file, open the photo in EDIT mode. Then the 'Image' menu will show a 'Use RAW Original title' element.
