  Apart from that you might try running the repair tool by going to Control Panel - programs - uninstall a program...

  Select Windows Essentials/right click Uninstall and you will get the option to 'fix' - which - it may take a bit of time and when it is finished, restart your pc.

  Is the format of the file. WMV or. WLMP?

  WMV is a film format and should play in Windows Media Player
  or most any other multimedia player.

  WLMP is a Windows Live Movie Maker project file and is useful
  in WLMM and all the original sources files must also be available.

  If you have a WLMP file... Go back to your Win7 machine and save
  as a WMV movie file.

  Well, I was very happy when the program doesn't stop after following your advice and unchecking above named filter. But then, after it scans the file (which is a progress!), he says he cannot continue because one or more of the files contains a codec that is not supported by AutoMovie.   Thank you for your message.  Give a try:

  Click 'Start' > right click on 'Computer' > select 'manage '.
  Expand "Services and Applications" > select 'Services '.
  Double-click on "RPC Remote Procedure Call () ' > ensure that the startup type is set to automatic and that the service is started, if not select 'start'"
  Double click on 'Print spooler' > ensure that the startup type is set to automatic and that the service is started, if not select 'start '.

  Test for features, once you have verified that the print spooler is running, restart your computer to ensure that the service is started automatically.  Please let us know if it did or did not help to solve your problem.  I'm moving this thread to the Hardware forum.
