Laptop starts up when the lid is opened

I spilled some water on the laptop. I used AC power with no battery attached. When this happens, I quickly pulled the plug. I knew that the warranty does not damage the water so I dissamble each component and put them in dry box for a week. Then I used alcohol to remove all stains left behind.

After I got everything back up, the laptop starts fine when the lid is closed and hooked to an external monitor. Can I use any program withou any problem. But it wouldn't start when the cover is open. It was as if someone was holding down the power button to force the computer to turn off.

My question is, how the laptop detects if the lid is open or closed? It is magnetic, or is it using a switch as a reed switch?

my laptop is HP Pavilion SleekBook 14 14-B031TU with the motherboard: DA0U33MB6D0-698523-001.

Kind regards

Ahmad

Most newer laptops have a sensor (switch) magnetic in the cover of the screen bezel or the touchpad.

You can test that by sliding a small magnet around the telescope cover touchpad area and/or.

  • Laptop Dell Studio 1555 w / Vista does not wake from sleep when the lid is open.

I have a laptop Dell Studio 1555 with Vista Premium 64-bit. Until last night, the laptop would run mode standby when I closed the lid and woke up when I opened the cover later. Yesterday I was downloading photos from a Canon camera via USB. I close the lid when I did. When I went to open the cover later the laptop screen remained in black and white. The power button is lit, but the only way I can get to meet is to hold the power button until it turns off completely, and then restart the laptop. A difference when the lid is closed, I think the power button will blink and turn off slowly while he was really in sleep. He remains on all the time now when the lid is closed. I tried to go into power management and put the laptop from sliding when the lid is closed, but has not made a difference.

  • Satellite A100-237 screen remains off when the lid is opened

OK I'll try my best to explain this. My power settings are adjusted so that the computer has no effect when the lid is closed - except for the display, which is turned off and back on when the lid is opened (normal behaviour).

Now, in rare occasions, when I opened the back cover, the screen doesn't come back, unless I close the back cover and open again. It is not a big problem for me at the moment, but I'm afraid that the connections of the screen with the motherboard by the cover have been damaged.

BIOS version 2.00, maybe an update could solve it?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Ataberk,

I think that your problem can be caused by the micro-switch that will detect when the laptop lid is closed. If this switch is in the open position so your screen will remain off even with the lid open. The idea here is that you can get the display by closing and opening the lid again.

I must say that I am not convinced that by using the specified HTML it could succeed to set the file musical itself. He would probably play if the sender displayed to himself and he opened on his own computer, because the file is local (always assuming that its authorized e-mail client reading.)

Note that Thunderbird will not particularly play music embedded in messages, so if someone you send to use Thunderbird, they don't hear it.

It is one of the reasons why I use Thunderbird. Besides having always cut sound. It can be very annoying having noise suddenly pop out of your computer in the workplace.

  • Vista on the XPS M1330 laptop lost wireless when the lid closed (using the external monitor)

    Hello

I bought an external monitor/keyboard/mouse for my laptop XPS M1330 (connection of the monitor via a HDMI to DVI cable).  However as soon as the lid is closed the wireless network stops working - opening the lid immediately launches the application again.  A network through a physical cable connection works with the closing of the cover.  Note, the network remains connected (or at least is always intended to be connected) it has not sent or received no information, while the lid is closed.

XPS M1330 laptop under Vista Home Premium SP1 - Wireless card is Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG running the latest drivers 11.5.0.32.

Power options are obviously set to shut down the computer laptop shut down, goes to stand by, or go into hybernation when the lid is closed... it is set to 'status quo '.  The properties of the wireless card has the "Ad hoc power management" disabled and the "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" unchecked.

When the cover is opened, the monitor takes the maximum size of the screen of the laptop, which goes against the objective set for the monitor in the first place.

(As a side note, the laptop also refused to work with a wired via a network connection "homeplug" - even if a hub is placed between the laptop and the homeplug - and I refuse to run a cable between the router as the laptop will be used in another room of the router).

Is there a solution to this, or is this a problem with Vista?  (Because if this is the case, it is yet another nail in the coffin - and it becomes difficult to find any more room for nails more!  Windows 7 is fast approaching!)

    See you soon,.

    Hi tom101449,

    ·          The WiFi was working fine earlier?

    ·          You did it all change hardware or software on your computer before this problem?

    Method 1

If the problem occurs after you install the latest drivers Intel PRO / Wireless, you can restore the drivers for the card wireless to the previous version. For more information, see this link.

Restore a driver with its previous version

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/restore-a-driver-to-its-previous-version

    Method 2

When you connect to your wireless network, make sure that the option 'Save this network' is checked.

In addition, right-click on the network > properties, then on the connection tab, check the box that says "connect automatically when this network is in range.

  • Computer user connection laptop turns off when the lid is closed

How can I configure my laptop to disconnect the current user (switch not only users) and force them to close all programs when the lid is closed, and then switch to sleep mode?

There is no direct option for this, but you can create a batch file that has orders for logoff, then the command for the night and have that run the trigger of "Lock Workstation".

Task Scheduler allows many triggers.  Type Task Scheduler in your Start menu, and then click New task on the right side to explore your options.
  • Windows 7 starts by itself after hibernation when the lid is opened

When I Hibernate my Satellite U500 and close the lid before the hybernation is finished, the laptop turns on automatically when I open again the cover. It's very embarrassing because the lid opens some in my purse and then, after a few hours, I discover that battery is zero and the laptop does not start.

To avoid this behavior, wait until the laptop is completely put into hibernation and only then close the cover.

    I use Satellite U500 18 with Windows 7.

Keyboard/WOL are disabled in the BIOS.

    Hey Buddy,

    > I have to wait until the laptop is completely put into hibernation and only then close the cover.
In my opinion it s absolutely normal behavior and I don t see a real problem.
I mean that it takes only a few seconds until the laptop is in sleep mode.

What you can do is to check the Windows power management settings. Here you can define, the laptop into hibernation if you close the lid.

  • Laptop turns off when the lid is closed

Since yesterday, my Dell laptop randomly started shooting (sleep/hibernate but not stop) whenever I tried to close the lid.  I already checked my power settings and they remain unchanged.  I tried to do a system restore to a time before the problem began and tried to uninstall the driver from device (with a similar question in this forum).  Nothing has done so far.  The computer seems to work normally otherwise.

    Hello!!!

I also had the same problem with my Dell laptop with windows 8.1 running. Made all things possible to correct the error, but nothing works for me. Finally I discovered that the drivers installed for my adapter DVI to USB causes the problem. When I uninstalled the drivers, my computer began to behave normally. Try this one, if you have recently installed some drivers like that...

  • Satellite M40 resume Hibernate when the lid is opened

My M40 RESUME from hibernation/sleep as soon as I open the cover, currently in the standby power button action is set to Hibernate and cover is set to do nothing do I put into hibernation and close the lid when I open windows back it doesn't wait for me to press the power button. Is it possible to take that when I press the power button not when I open the lid. or is it a defect?

    Hello

Well, as far as I know the power of setting energy saver button is official on Shut down
and the lid close to stand-by. You can check if it works.
In addition, you can go to the--> Power Options Control Panel.
There, please check if eating patterns are defined on Toshiba Power Saver and take a look on the Hibernate tab.
    Check the settings.

  • 7520 Photosmart printer - ink cartridges carriage out when the cover is opened

The transport does not automatically moves himself posted to the right of the machine when the lid is open.  I'm unable to change empty ink cartridges.  The machine was purchased new April 2013 and is out of warranty.  I turned off and turned it back over 15 min later, no change.

    Any suggestions?

    Hi @Clayball,

I see that you have problems with the transport not to move to the middle in order to change the cartridges.

    I would like to help.

I would like to do a hard reset to see if that will solve the problem.
Let the printer and disconnect the printer cable and the wall socket for 60 seconds.
Reconnect the power cable to the output of the printer and the wall, and not a surge protector.
This ensures that the printer is full on and can help this situation.

If the transport does not move freely when grasp the front, it's OK to gently push the carriage to the left or right to move along the rail.
Fragments of paper can get lodge between the cart and the gas station.  It is important to look at the far right of the printer with a flashlight to make sure there is no debris.

I handed a document with some measures to try to resolve the transport stall.

A Message appears 'Transport Jam' on the control panel.

  • Satellite C850-B735 starts automatically when view lid open on Win7

    Hello

    Recently I bought Toshiba c850-b735 - core i7 intel.
It was installed with Windows 8.
I installed Windows 7 from zero (new installation).
In power option, I put laptop to Hibernate when power press the button and sleep when the display lid close.

When I press the power button / stop, she hibernates. After closing cover of the display and then reopening, computer start / turns on automatically, which was not to be. I want to turn the laptop on when I press the power button, not on the lip of the open screen.

I already checked in the BIOS, the Panel - Open option is disabled.

I've seen the suggestion for windows 8, not for windows 7. He will deliver this material?

    Thank you.

I tested on my two laptops. A preinstalled with Win8 and other with Win7 64 bit. The same happen on two of them and the two begin when the cover is opened.

In my opinion it has nothing to do with the material. I put t know why do you think it may be a hardware problem. Let's see if anyone has idea how to change this.

  • Laptop will not go to sleep when the lid is closed

    Separated from this thread.

Same problem here. My settings say that my Toshiba will sleep when the lid is closed, but half the time is not asleep and I can feel it's hot and turns on the fan. I am so frustrated with this new laptop and Windows 8.1. Looks like too many bugs in the software or something. More I am working on the new laptop the more problems that I find, like screen discoloration as well. The forums are useless. I do what they say, and the problem is the same. Forget the call from Toshiba. Needless. Nobody will help unless you pay them money to subscribe. What customer service?

    Hello

Thanks for posting your concern here at the Microsoft Community forum. Let me help you with your concern.

This problem may occur because of any change in power on your laptop options. If the default is set to hibernation and standby modes, your laptop goes to sleep when you close the lid, but then the Hibernate timer comes in and wake up your computer first and trying to Hibernate. He cannot go to Hibernate directly from mode 'sleep'. Go into the power settings and either disable hibernation or set the timer on a higher value.

To apply the same setting to all plans:

    1. Open Power Options by pressing the Windows key + X, clicking Control Panel, click system and security, and then clicking Power Options.
    2. On the Select a power plan page, click choose the cover.
    3. On the page define power buttons and turn on password protection , next to when I close the lid, choose what you want your laptop to do, both when it is running on battery and when it's plugged in.
    4. Click on save changes.

Tip: To save battery power and quickly resume working, select sleep. Sleep is a power saving state that allows a computer quickly resume the operation of full power (usually in seconds) when you want to start working again.

To apply a setting to a specific regime:

    1. Open Power Options by pressing the Windows key + X, clicking Control Panel, click system and security, and then clicking Power Options.
    2. On the Select a power plan page, click change plan settings for the plan you want to change.
    3. On the change settings for the plan page, click change advanced power settings.
    4. Advanced settings tab, expand it cover and the Power button, action lid, choose what you want your mobile PC to do when you close the lid, for when it runs on battery and when it is plugged in, and then click OK.

I hope this helps. If you need help with Windows, let us know and will be happy to help you.
