Laptop will not go to sleep when the lid is closed

Separated from this thread.

Same problem here. My settings say that my Toshiba will sleep when the lid is closed, but half the time is not asleep and I can feel it's hot and turns on the fan. I am so frustrated with this new laptop and Windows 8.1. Looks like too many bugs in the software or something. More I am working on the new laptop the more problems that I find, like screen discoloration as well. The forums are useless. I do what they say, and the problem is the same. Forget the call from Toshiba. Needless. Nobody will help unless you pay them money to subscribe. What customer service?

Hello

Thanks for posting your concern here at the Microsoft Community forum. Let me help you with your concern.

This problem may occur because of any change in power on your laptop options. If the default is set to hibernation and standby modes, your laptop goes to sleep when you close the lid, but then the Hibernate timer comes in and wake up your computer first and trying to Hibernate. He cannot go to Hibernate directly from mode 'sleep'. Go into the power settings and either disable hibernation or set the timer on a higher value.

To apply the same setting to all plans:

  1. Open Power Options by pressing the Windows key + X, clicking Control Panel, click system and security, and then clicking Power Options.
  2. On the Select a power plan page, click choose the cover.
  3. On the page define power buttons and turn on password protection , next to when I close the lid, choose what you want your laptop to do, both when it is running on battery and when it's plugged in.
  4. Click on save changes.

Tip: To save battery power and quickly resume working, select sleep. Sleep is a power saving state that allows a computer quickly resume the operation of full power (usually in seconds) when you want to start working again.

To apply a setting to a specific regime:

  1. Open Power Options by pressing the Windows key + X, clicking Control Panel, click system and security, and then clicking Power Options.
  2. On the Select a power plan page, click change plan settings for the plan you want to change.
  3. On the change settings for the plan page, click change advanced power settings.
  4. Advanced settings tab, expand it cover and the Power button, action lid, choose what you want your mobile PC to do when you close the lid, for when it runs on battery and when it is plugged in, and then click OK.

I hope this helps. If you need help with Windows, let us know and will be happy to help you.

  • I can do: sleep when the lid is closed, EXCEPT when an external display is connected?

    Hello

Please let me know if this is possible. Seems to me like a current need, but I can't find a way to achieve this.

I wish that the laptop to sleep when I close the lid (battery / plugged - matter), except when I have a connected external display.

The script is very simple, I prefer to work with an external display, so I don't want or need the lid is open. When I'm on the road, the "sleep when the lid is closed" is a desired behavior.

    Is this possible?

    Thank you

    Roee.

    (1) this function is available in the Apple OS, but not in OS Win.

    (2) but, you can set a custom power plan to do this, so when you connect an external monitor just switch the power around plan. It is the easiest way to get what you want.

  • Laptop Dell Studio 1555 w / Vista does not wake from sleep when the lid is open.

I have a laptop Dell Studio 1555 with Vista Premium 64-bit. Until last night, the laptop would run mode standby when I closed the lid and woke up when I opened the cover later. Yesterday I was downloading photos from a Canon camera via USB. I close the lid when I did. When I went to open the cover later the laptop screen remained in black and white. The power button is lit, but the only way I can get to meet is to hold the power button until it turns off completely, and then restart the laptop. A difference when the lid is closed, I think the power button will blink and turn off slowly while he was really in sleep. He remains on all the time now when the lid is closed. I tried to go into power management and put the laptop from sliding when the lid is closed, but has not made a difference.

  • Super screen sensitive like I can't turn off the laptop and hear a clicking noise when the lid is closed

I am running Windows 7 on a computer Tablet laptop of Dell Latitude (it has a touch screen that is not removable, but it turns). My problem is that I can not shut down this computer and carry it from one place to the other without losing all my battery power: you can hear 'ping' when the lid is lowered. If I have to carry that I have to turn off completely, otherwise it will just keep producing this ping and use my battery. Everyone knows this?

This ping me makes me believe that a key is pressed, perhaps due to a letter from the keyboard that is stuck or is bad, or possibly a defect of the product.

  • How to ensure the backup of Windows 7 starts and runs until the end on a laptop which is mode standby, or could be put in mode 'sleep' when the lid is closed.

    Hello

Many of us with laptops with Windows 7 would like to ensure that, when a Windows backup is scheduled, it starts successfully and goes to full completion, regardless of whether the phone is first 'sleep', or if the user of the laptop close the lid of the laptop, which would normally the laptop mode 'sleep'.  In other words, how to backup Windows or Windows 7 be configured to wake from mode "sleep" and prevent it from sleep mode, when a backup is scheduled and actively running?

I saw a way to schedule a task that will wake the computer, but I'm looking for something more intelligent than that.  I'm looking to see if Microsoft has already thought this through and allow you to pre-configure operating system such as we have no additional installation software.

    Thank you

  • Yoga 260 do not SLEEP when the lid is closed

    Hello

Sometimes when I close the lid off my Yoga 260 Windows 10 do not go to sleep.

The behavior is really weird because the red light on the cover flashes like when it is in "standby", but I can hear the rotating fan.

When I open the cover, it's even more bizarre. Windows are not locked and I am not asking for a password. The whole system is very laggy. The mouse moves in jumps, and there is not any response to keyboard or touchscreen. After a few seconds/minutes, the system is suddenly OK as nothing happened.

Is not happening all the time and I wasn't able to see any model, when this happens.

What should I do to get rid of this?

    Thx for the help.

I tried to disable the special function of Lenovo for rapid reactivation in 15 seconds after closing the lid and it seems to be OK now.

Windows Vista Home Basic preinstalled on my Compaq laptop will not accept code provided with the computer installation. HP can't help. Your say talking to HP and HP technicians say they are unable to help him. I'm now using valid XP. HP say that conflict with Vista. Can anyone help?

    original title: VISTA VS. XP

Your technicians say talk to HP

Sorry, this is not Microsoft.  This is a public forum from user to user hosted by Microsoft on its servers for the comfort of its clients, and we all here are volunteers.

You say you use XP.  What is your question?  What do you mean 'conflicts with Vista?

I suggest recovery discs you order from HP for your computer.  If HP is no longer the issue of stocks you can order such a third of Recovery - Disks.com.  There are several of these companies.  If you are going to use XP, you need to install XP from scratch and this means that you need XP drivers for your brand and model.  If HP has no XP drivers on your computer you must not try to use XP on it.

Remember that Vista Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium and Ultimate out of Microsoft support on 10 April and there will be more updates, including critical security patches after that date.  Only Vista business and company will continue to receive updates.  You might consider this a good time to upgrade to Windows 7.  You must download and run the Windows Update Advisor once you restored Vista successfully.

Thanks for the return of the response.  I also go to your manufactures website and confirm you are updated with the lates drivers, updates the firmware and BIOS.  I even watch the forums on the manufacturer's Web site to see if others have experinced the same question.

I have a laptop HP DV6 7000. The battery doesn't work that when the lid is closed (sleep mode).

If I close the lid and plug in the charger, the light indicates orange and the battery will deliver to load almost full.

If I open the lid before the orange light changing to white, battery icon always says: _ % available (plugged in, does not support).

Several different Chargers give identical results. EACH of them is fully charge the battery in two hours; as long as the cover is closed. If I open the lid, even to say 50% load, the orange light glows white and the battery icon always says: _ % available (plugged in, does not support).

    Thank you, Ed.

The last thing I can suggest to try a restore to factory.  Performing a recovery of system HP (Windows 7)

While the recovery, there is an option to backup your personal files. If you have not already done so, it is now a good time.

Restore files that have been supported to the top using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 7)

  • Computer user connection laptop turns off when the lid is closed

How can I configure my laptop to disconnect the current user (switch not only users) and force them to close all programs when the lid is closed, and then switch to sleep mode?

There is no direct option for this, but you can create a batch file that has orders for logoff, then the command for the night and have that run the trigger of "Lock Workstation".

Task Scheduler allows many triggers.  Type Task Scheduler in your Start menu, and then click New task on the right side to explore your options.
  • Inspiron 15R (5537) wake from its slumber when the lid is closed through the usb keyboard/mouse

I have an Inspiron 15R (5537) which has all the latest drivers from Dell BIOS A01 Reference (Windows 8). I have the options of closing the lid set to "do nothing" for the two battery and plugged in, but no matter what I try, when the lid is closed I can't the laptop to wake up via USB keyboard or mouse.
The keyboard and mouse have the wake-up option enabled in the settings of their material.  I also wake up from USB enabled in the BIOS.
What is interesting, is that if I put the computer to sleep with the lid open, I can wake him up from the keyboard or the mouse.  But with the lid closed, the only way to wake up, it should open the cover and press the power button.
Anyone know a solution to this?
    Summary:
Cover open: CAN wake from USB keyboard/mouse.
Cover closed: don't wake up if I open the lid and press the power button.

    Pete,

Depending on where you live, you will have the rights of consumers.  I live in Australia and we have pretty good consumer protection.

I asked Dell - repair, replace it with one that works, or pay back me.

They went away for a few weeks, and when I "called home" a few times, they acknowledged that they could not solve the problem and offered me a full refund. The laptop was picked up yesterday and I expect the refund within about five days. The guy on my "case" has been very professional!

I guess that you informed Dell FORMALLY of the problem via a support ticket?

I did that and followed by chat and phone calls.

Whist, the ability to wake up via USB is not explicitly described in any of their literature, the bios has available and W8.1 has the facility.  they built it all - EXCEPT that they forgot the lid...

    see you soon

  • NB250 makes scream sound when the lid is closed

    Hi all

I am facing this problem with my laptop NB250.

    Steps to reproduce the problem
    i. internal microphone and speakers are enabled
    II. play some audio.
III. close the lid while the audio is playing.
IV. when the lid is closed (or even when she is brought very close to the keyboard) there is a loud noise.

I went to the shop where I bought the laptop. The technician he said that this sound is done because the microphone is taken directly above the enclosure when the lid is closed.
But I do not think that the sound must be made when the lid is closed.

I should be grateful if the following queries are processed:
    i. This is a problem with only with NB250?
II. is it a common problem with all laptops that have the speakers placed next to the touchpad, which brings the microphone from the speakers when the lid is closed?
III. If there is a problem with my laptop, what should I do to repair/replace?

    Thank you
    Yogesh

    Hi mate

I think you're talking about the sound looping between speaker <->microphone.
I n t have this model laptop but I found an interesting How TO from Toshiba on similar topic. It addresses s L500 series.

    Check this box:
    + Hissing sound +.
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSB0402UB0001R01.htm

Disable the microphone volume in the speakers properties and this will help you get rid of these sounds.

  • Inspiron 17R SE 7720 wake from its slumber when the lid is closed through the usb keyboard/mouse

So I have an Inspiron 17R SE 7720 which has all of the latest drivers with BIOS A11 (Win 7 Ultimate x 64)...  I have all the settings properly configured for sleep power (no hibernation), however no matter what I try, I can't get the laptop to wake up when the lid is closed through USB keyboard.

I use a combo of MK560 Wave from Logitech (unifying receiver) - keyboard and mouse have the wake-up option enabled in the settings of their material.  I also wake up from USB enabled in the BIOS.

What is interesting is that if I put the computer to sleep with the lid open, I can do/wake it from Logitech devices.  With the lid closed, I can only do sleep - the only way to wake up, he is to open the cover and press the power button.

Anyone know a solution to this?

    Cliffs Notes:

Cover open: CAN sleep/wake from USB keyboard/mouse

Cover closed: can sleep ONLY - don't wake up if I open the Start button / cover & press

It seems that a new A13 BIOS was released on 18 March, all it says in the section '' correction '' is to "maintain the release." Download it now and see if it fixed more on the question of the USB.
