Large icons at startup - Windows 7 Professional

Can someone please tell me why, at startup that my icons are suddenly HUGE I restart and they return to the normal size I had put them in the first place. I know that I can come in and change the size of my icons, but in this case, I have not touched the size.

Initially I went into the control panel and display, but it does not work, it just upset everything.

Thank you very much

Hi ScousePen,

-Since when have you had the problem?

Follow the steps below:

Method 1:

If the problem does not occur in safe mode, the next troubleshooting would be to start the computer in a clean boot state and identify the problem causing third-party program.

Start your computer in a clean boot state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. If so, you need to maybe contact the manufacturer of the program for updates or uninstall and reinstall the program.

See the following article in the Microsoft KB for more information on how to solve a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or Windows 7:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Note: After troubleshooting, be sure to set the computer to start as usual as mentioned in step 7 in the above article.

Method 2:

Create a new user account and check if the problem is recurring in the newly created account.

If the problem does not persist in the new user account, it could indicate that your old user account is corrupted.

Access the link below and follow the steps to repair the corrupted user profile:

Difficulty of a corrupted user profile

Hope this information helps.

  • Black screen on startup - Windows 7 Professional

I recently installed Windows 7 Professional on my laptop MSI, 4 GB of RAM, processor Intel (r) Core (TM) 2 Duo CPU, 32-bit operating system, Nvidia GeForce 9600 m GT 512 MB.

When I turn it on, there is all black screen. I pull the battery (until I discovered F8) and it starts in safe mode with network. Then, I reboot safe mode and windows load correctly. Two days before the blackout, the cursor would freeze too.

Note I've read related topics, like the one in which it is suggested to disable the graphics drivers, and I recently downloaded new ones from Nvidia, but it started two or three days later, so I doubt it has to do with the graphics drivers.

Should I try with the system restore or perhaps reinstall Windows?

Yesterday, I found and installed both updates Optional:

In any case, this morning, the windows loading straight, so with this optional support, the problem could be solved. I hope that nothing will change in the future, however.

I used this PC for several months with no problems. After doing some research in my menu of the taskbar Windows Explorer and start icons have become corrupted. The links always work but do not show the right program.

I tried several things to fix this. I removed everything in the start menu and taskbar, rebooted, added a few back but the problem still exists. I deleted the icon cache file (renamed to db.old), restarted, problem still exist. I made a recovery of a checkpoint system before the problem was still not fixed. When I go to small icons, the problem disappears. The problem only seems to appear when you use large icons in the bar of tasks and the start menu.

  • Windows 7 Professional hangs up during startup

I have a desktop HP Pavilion h8-1234 PC. Was running Windows 7 Home Premium and it worked very well.

I bought and installed Windows 7 Professional (using the Express upgrade).
Now, whenever I start the PC it starts the boot process, but just before it starts to load Windows it hangs up with a blinking cursor and a screen empty.  Repeated attempts to restart (Ctrl + Alt + Delete) and it continues to hang on. Or if I shut it down and restart it, it crashes always upward.

I have a drive "System startup repair" HP software CD allowed me to when I was running Windows 7 Premium.
If I insert the disk, once it is located, for a few seconds, the PC behaves as if it loads something, but the screen remains the same (in white).

So if I do an another Ctrl + Alt + Delete, once the system is that usually, he hangs up, it will display the message "press any key to boot from CD or DVD". I don't press a key and let it continue to boot (not from CD) and it starts normally and Windows 7 Profesional charge and everything looks OK.

Looks like your boot record is corrupted or your hard drive is dying.

Another possibility is an external device that is interfering with the startup process.

Let's start with the last two because they can easily be tested.

Disconnect all external devices from your PC, with the exception of your mouse and your keyboard.

    That change things?

If this is not the case, start Windows using your workaround solution.

  • 11/11/15 Windows 7 Professional Patch forces Lenovo X 220 in endless loop

This morning (11/11/15), I woke up my laptop Lenovo X 220 running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and I saw a patch update had been installed during the night.

I clicked on my profile deleted icon screen and return to the logon icon screen. There are three profiles to choose:, admin my wife and me. No work. I click on any one of them and it is just the same screen. Will not progress to the desktop. Seems to be a reboot loop.

I restarted many many times. I removed the battery. I held each F key trying to access advanced configuration. F1 on my machine gets me into BIOS. I clicked on system start 'Quick' to "Analysis" but that just took more time from the BIOS before arriving at the display of the icon.

Any F key I have (other than F1) the system continues to boot to windows but always stop at the connection of the screen with icons for profile and then won't let me go any further. Lenovo has the little blue button that is supposed to fix the computer. Now that button gets me only beep, then he continues the startup of the connection profile screen. No matter what, I can't do anything to start the machine.

I ran the machine in now the power button. That came back with "Windows was not end normally.» You want to start in safe MODE, safe MODE with networking or command window in safe MODE? "The screen did NOT offer the option to"REPAIR COMPUTER"to go to a previous installation point. The three modes always bring me the same profile screen. Clicking on one of the icons just rest in the reboot loop.

No matter what I do, it just restarts.

What did Microsoft for my OS Win 7 Pro? It has worked wonderfully for years. Now Microsoft has bricked my laptop. It's really annoying.

One thing is for sure. I turn off "Automatic updates" from here out - if I ever start my machine again. It is clear that I can't trust Microsoft even to "solve" a problem in their own operating system.

UPDATE: I just remembered that I had a Windows Phone plugged into the USB port to charge the phone when the update occurred. A STINKING PHONE WINDOWS! Not an Apple, not an Android. A WINDOWS PHONE that made my work on me. (It stinks by the way.) I'm afraid that this stupid piece of junk may have messed up the installation of update.

In any case, tonight I tried to recover the laptop. I made a Win7 64-bit to get CDs from another Win7 machine and tried to do a system restore, but of course, there is no point of system restore on the computer. Did not one, conveniently. Tried every service offered by the Sys restore CD without result.

The Lenovo X 220 had a partition on the C drive for the restoration of an original installation, that is going to lose all my programs, of course, but I can not even the reader to do the installation.

Something really watered this X 220 Tablet.

If Microsoft thinks I'll never trust their laptops after they have destroyed one of mine, think again. So disappointed with Microsoft, Bill Gates with his billions.

    Hi Daniel,.

The default resolution and "recommended" for my two monitors lenovo is 1920 x 1080. I have a new system and I tried for a few weeks now to something to work with screen resolution and third-party apps. I am under W7 Pro right now, but will soon be getting to 10.

The high resolution is not a problem in 7 with any Microsoft stuff. With the help of a custom of the DPI setting takes care of all the native stuff. Some third-party applications can be set as well. For example, Corel Photo Paint X 7 has bars of detachable command with command icons that can be set to small, medium or large. When the size of the icon is changed, the size of the font adjusts accordingly and it is perfectly feasible, acknowledging the icons or by reading the text. It is perfect for this dual screen system and works like a charm.

However, most of other software companies are not quite as respectful of their clients. Bryce, formerly owned by Corel, but now DAZ despicable, is not removable toolbars and there is no options available to adjust the sizes of icons in order. Even if preferences to provide an engaging, multiple monitor option not to release the toolbars or increase the font size. It only opens the Bryce "Labs" in the second monitor in a position at the end of the dialog box, half of the Cup.

It also applies even in a top of the range of applications such as VIEW and Smith Micro, Poser Pro. They present menus and toolbar icons that are so tiny, it is necessary to use the Magnifier Microsoft to make and which isn't real solution when your work with graphics programs. It's incredibly awkward.

My old system, running XP Pro, SP3, which I always put in place and operational, has a screen resolution of 1280 X 768, and it displays all the software of third party very well. If I try to use this resolution with W7 and these monitors high resolution, I get a crushed image down and half on the screen which is useless. I can read everything very well, but all images are short and fat! If it was possible to type values for the height and width, using an infinite scale rather than the fixed scale that is provided by the slider over, nicked in W7, it would be possible to find a combination that worked. Then, once the wreck was set for third party stuff, the custom DPI settings Windows could take care of the native stuff.

I had an Oracle VirtualBox running for awhile and loaded the third of things out there and it worked for awhile but it did not offer the ability double screen and, in any case, after awhile it started to get really uptight and I finally just had to get rid of.

Really, I would be much happier if I could just load XP Pro on this machine and do run as quickly as things that made to run on it. The only reason why I got a new system was the need for more speed and muscle. But if I can't use my favorite, applications worth it?

Is there no workaround solution that will make it possible to adjust the resolution so that the third-party applications are fully functional using all the space on the screen?

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to read and respond.

Since no one answered I'll provide the solution myself. Doing right thing 'upgrade' to Windows 10 has this problem of resolution.

Other than that, getting W10 to work even at halfway was a nightmare.

As long as the hardware manufacturers for any material that you plan to use have support/drivers for Windows XP; Yes.

Insofar as the processor - Yes.

    Motherboard - Yes.

So, as long as your other equipment (whatever they are) is still supported under Windows XP Professional 64-bit Edition, you should be fine.
