  Greetings to all.  I hope it will be a simple matter, because I'm a fool.  At least I feel like one, because I'm trying to update a Windows vCenter server since version 5.5.0 build 2001466 the latest version which is 5.5 2nd update, I think it is build 2646482.  When I try to run the installer, I get a message saying something to the effect that the program is already installed.  Is it compulsory that I uninstall and remove everything and then install latest version?  There must be an easier way... I do need to update a component at a time?  I used the Manager was updated several times to update ESXi hosts; I run the scan, then the scene, then clean up - which normally works for the update of components on hosts and virtual machines, but I can't use this method to update vCenter, and when I try the installer, well, it's like I said above.  I hope that there is an easy way to upgrade without uninstalling completely and do a lot of manipulation of the database of fantasy.  But if that's what it takes, so be it.  I can't seem to find a good technical document, either - they are all about the upgrade from 5.1 to 5.5 or something to that effect.  So I'll certainly be very grateful, very sincerely, for any help or suggestions anyone might have.

  You use the Windows version of vCenter? You try to run the Setup program by using the Simple installation or custom installation? Try to use the custom installation and upgrade each component at the same time in the following order:

  1. upgrade vCenter Single Sign-On;

  2. upgrading vSphere Web Client;

  3. upgrade vCenter inventory Service.

  4. turn on the vCenter server.

  I would like to download the latest version from the download site and follow the instructions in:

  Each version of vCenter is a full version and is relatively simple point and click on install.  The only thing that I usually recommend it is that you have a backup of the database before doing anything, just in case.

  vSphere Client 5.5 reports incorrect version of vCenter 5.5 Virtual Appliance. For example, vCVA build is 1891314, but in vSphere Client 5.5 GUI shows like 1891313 or vCVA build is 2170515 (last U2a), but in vSphere Client 5.5 GUI shows as 2001466
