led (Fotosketcher) has taken over from my homepage to google chrome

I downloaed Fotosketcher and I guess I did accidentally something I didn't, and my homepage has changed to a searchconduit.com page.  It happens everytime I open Google chrome.  I can't get back to the page I used first by going to the site www.google.com and then choose a second page with all my sites 'most visitors' tab..then Monte.  This use to be the default.

I uninstalled Fotosketcher, Fotosketcher toolbar, caught the url leads off my list of pages of Windows Welcome, took leads search page (and each other) on my list of "manage search engines" in Google, disabled the Google extension and deleted to the trash. I made sure that Chrome is my default browser and I uninstalled Google Chrome and reinstalled it... rebooted my machine... all to nothing does not.  That doomed pages is still there every time I close my browser and reopen.
I have Webroot as my security software.   What can I do else.

  • A person or group has taken over my computer

A few years ago, I downloaded accidentally malware/trojan/virus through a flash update. My internet has sent almost as much as she gets slow my computer down to ridiculous.  A few years ago I enabled hidden files and found a whole bunch of very strange file names starting with $ and extremely long numbers. For example, $NtUninstallKB2655992$.

I looked into some of these hidden folders to find text files with a very strange, as the rectangles and something like nAuN dirty as a name in it.

There are 39 just in my Windows folder. In addition to a folder called $hf_mig$ who has stored all my XP system updates and, perhaps, since it happened. There are 38 updates since 10/10/2012 in there. Files named something close to KB2724197 are listed in there. I guess they are updated because they have almost the same name as the updates of today that I was not allowed to install.

    Last night I started in safe mode to change the privileges on files hidden as a RECYCLER. When in safe mode, I clicked on RECYCLER to change the admin him. When he wouldn't let see who was the owner, I started to look around. In the box, there is a list of privileges to assign read/write, etc. But "special permission is grayed out. As I have gone through and created a new user for my self, I found this list of users;

    ANONYMOUS
    Authenticated users
    BATCH
    Dan (me)
    DIALUP
    Everyone
    Comments (deactivated)
    Guests
    Help Services Group (deactivated)
    Help Assistant
    INTERACTIVE
    NETWORK
    SERVICE
    SUPPORT_388945a0
    SYSTEM
    Terminal Server user
    User (has been disabled)
    Users

I was unable to make changes when you try to remove users from this file. When I tried the error message showed a path? \C:\RECYCLER, you do not have sufficient privileges to make changes.

So, what is with all this?

At this point, you have to assume that all of your data and personal information on the computer is compromised.  You must ensure that your credit cards and other financial accounts have not been fraudulently used.  Use a secure computer known to replace your passwords online.  If you have already used an online credit card, call the credit card company and request a new account number (explain that your computer may have been compromised - they should treat it simply as a lost or stolen card).

Reading this, especially the last paragraph--> http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc700813.aspx

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to provide you with a way to reinstall Windows.  If they cannot help you, ask the computer lab (or a renowned local independent repair store - not a store chain) and ask them if they can re-install version authentic Windows XP for you.  They may or may not be able to do, depending on what the media available to them and that the label of certificate of authenticity of Windows XP on your computer can be read.

Overall, it may be cheaper to purchase a new netbook.  You will not be able to get one with XP, however.  You will probably have to get used to Windows 8 or Google Chrome.

Really, the alternative to reinstalling Windows or buy a new computer - and it is not a good alternative and is not guarantee of success - advertising interactive help in one of the specialized forums malware removal I listed before.

Although it is technically possible that your BIOS is infected, it is very likely (unless you live in China).  A rootkit BIOS named Mebromi appeared a year or two ago, but it can only attack computers that use BIOS code produced by a specific vendor.

  • YouTube-nocookie field has problems in Firefox, but not in Google Chrome

This problem just started a few days ago. This problem appears in embedded videos who have worked for months, at least.

I use the YouTube of incorporation iframe method. When I use youtube-nocookie area, which is an option that YouTube itself offer to me, when I try to play the embedded video I get the message ' year error occurred, please try again later. " "< a target ="_blank"href ="https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/3037019?p=player_error1 & rd = 1"> learn more < /a >."

More information is a link to https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/3037019?p=player_error1 & rd = 1 that this link is no help.

I'm using Firefox 36.0.1. There is no problem with the same video built into Google Chrome. My research Google about this problem never took me to an item on the support page of Mozilla, but I think I'll watch it then.

Here is a link to a post where I see the problem.

    http://ssgreenberg.name/PoliticsBlog/2015/03/04/Sen-Warren-to-GOP-stop-ambushing-workers-rights/

Even when I use the link with youtube-nocookie directly in the toolbar URL in Firefox, I get a blank page. If I take the nocookie - of the domain in the address bar, the video plays.

The problem with YouTube is that the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLT2nV3sWtw file exists, and you will get the correct video.

Make a right click on the drive in window displays the URL of the video.
    https://www.YouTube-Nocookie.com/watch?feature=player_embedded & v = TLT2nV3sWtw

In the iframe, I had https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/TLT2nV3sWtw. This file exists on www.youtube-nocookie. For Firefox, YouTube changes the request to https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/watch. Notice the word to embed watch. This file exists on youtube.com, but not on youtune - nocookie.com. This is in contrast to the other file that exists in the two areas.

On Google Chrome, on the same iframe, when I right click on the video player to copy the URL, I get https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLT2nV3sWtw. So the nocookie - has been deleted for Google Chrome, but not Firefox. It is a 'mistake' of obviouslty YouTube.

  • WordPad has taken over my computer, the icons and all!

In attempting to change the default value of the unknown for a program that can open zip files, I tried to use WordPad, given that Windows 7 appears to have eliminated the Windows Explorer as default.  Suddenly, I realized everything in my bar tasks, and almost all of my programs are opened as WordPad, with what looked like hieroglyphics to text!  I ran and no infection, they came and I am wanting to do a restore of the system to yesterday, but that, too, opens as WordPad! This zip file has caused me too many problems and I was not able to figure out how to open again!  At this point, I'm afraid to do so, even if I had looked forward to receive the product.  Same MSE opens as WordPad, as does everything else.  I am able to open some sites only by choosing links in help!  So may of you brilliant technicians help me out somehow from this quagmire?

    Thank you very much!

    Windows 7

    THAT IS TO SAY 11

The zip file contains a program, or just compressed files? Usually if a zip file contains a malware

It does not infect your machine so that extract you it or run an executable that installs.

-Notepad is usually the best option to open unknown files to read the text.

A third program open source, Notepad ++ , it's even better.

Hieroglyphs would likely be machine code, not text.

-C' is weird that all file extensions appear to have changed to Wordpad. Maybe the zip file

contains a number of files with commonly used file extensions, and all of them have changed.

I'll waffle with what data I can offer still...

-Try using the Startup Option - last good known Configuration

(Click Start > restart and after Windows shuts but before it begins to restart start tapping)

the F8 key. This will display the Boot Options menu).

-If restore Boot Options didn't help, you may have to do some registry entries.

It is also possible to restore default file with a command prompt extensions, or a lot

file, but I don't know how to do this.

    by default-file-type-associations-restore

    - Or - maybe if you install 7 - zip (see below) you may be able to change the file association for zip files

7 - zip, and perhaps the rest will come as a result (I dare not experience)?

    ------

-When you use the Open or Open with options you must make sure to clear the check box

next to - 'always use the selected program to open this kind of file '.

This will stop with the open option to change the file Association for all files that use this extension.

(eg - .txt, dll, exe, and so on).

-Why MS made 'always use the selected program to open this kind of file '.   the default value is a mystery

for me, as I very rarely want to change the file extension to always use a certain program, but there are many things that will try to open, and which are readable with Notepad.

    -------

I use 7 - zip, which is very popular for extraction and compression of files.

Download the msi version that fits your Win7 - 32 or 64-bit. Run the msi file to install.

    7-zip

    -------

If you do not install 7 - zip - (windows Help and Support on the start menu)-

    - To extract a single file or folder, double-click the compressed folder to open it. Then, drag the file or folder the file is compressed to a new location.

-To extract the entire contents of the compressed folder, right-click the folder, click on Extract all , and then follow the instructions.

  • iMesh search engine has taken over

Accidentally, I downloaded the music from iMesh program last night. Had much difficulty unintalling it and when I finally thought I was clear, I noticed with Firefox and Internet Explorer, iMesh search engine had resumed. I don't know how to get rid of it and I also have google some help does not. Help, please... I love Firefox but not diverted.

You can open the topic: config page through the address bar and search for iMesh via the filter at the top of the about: config page.

You can reset all iMesh associated prefs via the context menu to their default values.

To open the topic: config page, type Subject: config in the address bar (address) and press the 'Enter' key, as you type the url of a Web site to open a Web site.

If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access this page.

    • Preferences that have changed see the bold (user set).
