  • Question about the legitimacy of svchost

I have read in this forum post that any file named svchost that lay outside c\Windows\system32 is malware and should be deleted. But because the way that this post was written 4 years ago and relates to windows xp, I thought I would ask here and see if anyone knew if they were legitimate, until I deleted the necessary files. I found the files in these locations

    ... S C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-Windows-s - svchost.resources_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_en - us_511f46fd08cd38e1

Are these legitimate places for any file named svchost to exist?

Also, when I use the resource monitor I have 13 different programs with the name svchost.exe taking up varying amounts of memory. All but one were briefly in brackets after their name.  I will list here and ask that anyone can verify that these are not legitimate malware

    Svchost.exe (SDRSVC)

    Svchost.exe (RPCSS)

I have run 3 Super anti-spyware scans, Microsoft Security essentials and tdsskiller

I am running windows 7 Home Premium on a laptop Asus X53E. I only use Google Chrome for browsing.

I wonder about the legitimacy of these programs because I have several different programs with the name svchost.exe taking up varying amounts of RAM.

I'm not a full explanation as to what these programs do, because it's not a lot of information to give, but a point in the direction where I could get this information would be appreciated.

I thank very you much for your time.

The reason to be wary, it is if you have an instance of svchost.exe running which was not to C:\Windows\System32.

Most of the examples you give is folders in C:\Windows\winsxs with svchost in their name. C:\windows\winsxs is used for the Windows service. There are copies or links hard for all the files of the operating system in it.

    I guess that the en-US folder contains svchost.exe.mui. It's a MUI file.

    Svchost = Service host.

Rather than having to each Windows service that runs as a separate process, they are grouped into categories that are somewhat related and each group is executed in a single operation.

  • Legitimacy of site to purchase OEM of CS6

    Hi all

I just had a typical experience Adobe support. I wanted to know was if a site that offers OEM versions cheap CS6 is a dealer legitimate Adobe and if I buy from them if I am eligible for future updates. Here is the conversation with the (I guess Auto) agent. The toughest part, is that the 'conversation' was closed without response either. Can anyone here give me an answer to my question?

Now you can chat with Hemant.

Hemant: Hello! Welcome to the Adobe Customer Service.

Hemant: Can I please have your email address registered with Adobe, while I will review your request?

    Eric: be XXXX or XXXX

Hemant: Hey Eric, thanks for the information, how are you doing today?

    Eric: Thank you very much

Hemant: How you want that I help you?

Eric: I have already provided this information in the original application

Hemant: Please state your question Eric.

Eric: I am about to buy an OEM version reduced of CS6, however, I do not know if the OEM version will give me the right to upgrade to CS7. Could you please let me know if this is possible? The site where I intend to purchase is: http://... (URL removed by moderator because she is a supplier of illegal goods)

Hemant: Eric let me for a moment.

Hemant: Eric, we havnt started any thing related to CS7.

Hemant: I'm sorry to keep you waiting on. My system freezes.

Eric: This isn't the issue. The question is to know if I can switch to CS7 in the future if I buy the OEM version of the site I sent you?

Eric: http://... (URL removed by moderator because she is a supplier of illegal goods)

Hemant: Eric, I can't do anything until less than momentum.

Eric: Hemant, all I want to know is if the site I sent you is a dealer legitimate Adobe and if I buy from them if I am eligible for future updates, even if they are named CS7?

Eric: Have you actually looked at the link/website I sent through?

Thank you for chatting with us. Please click on the 'Close' button in the top right of the chat window to tell us how we did today.

Adobe has the worst customer service I've ever met - whenever I contacted them in recent years regarding my products purchased legitimately I had a similar experience. Twice my question was not answered, and instead of it, (automatic) agents tried to sell me a subscription to online access. They used the exact same paragraphs for this.

I would really appreciate concise answers.

I look forward to hear from you,

    Eric

There is no such thing as an OEM version of Adobe Creative Suite. The site you quoted offers a software pirate or software illegally unbundled (from licenses in bulk). Whatever it is, whatever is the next set of Adobe products, you will not be able to upgrade of illegal software! In fact, this kind of thing might not even work at all or could not refuse to activate.

Moreover, for what it's worth, these forums are not part of Adobe support. Although some Adobe employees involved, it's really an end user community here.

  • How will I know if an email from 'Apple' on malware is legitimate?

I received an e-mail might alert, apple, on malware that requires immediate attention.  I need to know how to determine if it is legitimate. In my safari, I went on the link they posted in the warning and got this announcement of: http://icloud-webserver-3.online/index-2.html

Your computer is infected with adware or malware, which allows you to see this popup.

This can happen because of the obsolete virus protections.

To fix, please call Apple Support to 1-800-982-1346 immediately. Please ensure that you do not restart your computer to avoid any data loss.

Possibility of data & identity theft, if not fixed immediately.

In fact, I called the number, don't do not still think that it was a 'bad' site...? How can I check the legitimacy of this warning?

It's easy. It is NOT legitimate. It's a scam, and it came not from Apple.

  • Question involving a misspelled link

Earlier, I was just browsing the internet and typed a rather simple url and she flashed a notification in the sense of 'Your OS X crashed', this confused and worried about the legitimacy of the request and the site as he did not redirect me to apple. • In the enterprise application security

    Hello

With the recent exploits against non-jailbroken iPhone, I'm curious to know what other people do on the protection of the iPhones in the company?  We have a NO-byod environment, all phones are owned by us, but we allow users to download something they want for them.  It is supposed to be limited to "related work" but we all know how it goes.  We have instructed officials to check the applications against the zap.zscaler to get a ranking of security, but most of the applications are not there.  We also looked at proofpoint, but their services are > $20 K per year which is out of reach for us.  Is there an in-between to verify the legitimacy and the security of the applications?

    Cheers, Katie

If the device is not jailbroken, then applications must come from the App Store, or they must be distributed through a program of the company.

You have RMD? You should be able to get a report on installed applications. In addition, due to the sandbox, even a malicious application can access data in its own app container, unless the device is jailbroken (which is rare these days).

  • Think of a scam, I called the company - am I at risk?

My mother was using his iPad and got a pop-up in Safari on the iPad with a virus or something else and to dial a number to get it repaired. The site was called ios-security-alarm.

Once she was on the phone with them, they asked his serial number on his iPad. She gave them that. They said that it was probably a problem with her laptop and wanted to remotely access that. At this time, she got the suspect and got off the phone.

    Two questions.

Is it possible that your iPad (or a home network) is really in danger and that's why she who becomes pop up?

    and

She is threatened to be hacked or have compromised information giving them the serial number of his iPad. It was the only information she provided them.

If it is to any risk, that she must do to protect themselves?

    > At this time, she got suspicious and got off the phone.

If it did not allow access to his laptop computer. That's great.

    > Is it possible that your iPad (or a home network) is really in danger and that's why she who becomes pop up?

N ° she dodged an attempt to scam. Don't question even the legitimacy of the pop up warning. IT IS A SCAM! Period.

    > Is in danger at all to be hacked or have compromised information giving them the serial number of his iPad. It was the only information she provided them.

    N °

    > If it is to any risk, that she must do to protect themselves?

While browsing the internet... If there is a scary warning, NEVER call the number. Contact Apple directly or ask someone who understands technology. Check iPad Settings - Safari - history and website data clear your MOM. That will clear the cache of Safari script.

  • This tech support number is legitimate?

I could not access MSN white pages earlier today.  I called msn tech support @877-452-9201.  The tech?  to me logmein123.com.  He checked my computer, went into several windows and said that my MSN browser has been altered.  He then asked $299.99 for repair.  Is / was this legitimate?
