Lenovo W540 poor network performance

My company recently bought a Lenovo W540 (Intel i7-4700MQ @ 2.4 Ghz, 16 GB RAM, Windows 8.1 pro 64-bit) for me to use when I work remotely. I must say that this thing has been an albatross on the first day. While he usually makes evil, wifi is the worst I have ever known. The W540 can strike only a fraction of the speed of the network of my 4 year old Dell Latitude E6400 (1.1 Mbps compared to 2.7 Mbit/s on average). Connectivity is not very reliable and I always lose my VPN and VoIP connections.

I updated all the drivers available from Lenovo and Intel but also removed most of the pre-installed Lenovo bloatware. Before doing so I could only gerer.6 Mbps on a good day - using my 3 G phone captive was faster and more reliable.

I contacted the support twice for assistance. Their best offer was to drive me an hour for the service center for support.

I am at my wit's end and would appreciate any help you can offer before I send this back to the Lenovo with a pot of vasaline.

To me, it seems that people who possess the W540 with card Intel 7260 have good arguments for a class action suit. My company bought 4 of these laptops. Lenovo has offered no solution or compensation to continue to ship a horrible piece of technology. I don't think we will buy whatever it is out here on Lenovo.

  • Only the Server 2008 machines, poor network performance

The environment contains 2 x IBM x 3650 servers. The virtual machines that all have two 8 GB of RAM and 4 vCPUs allocated. ESXi 5.1 build 1065491

The network consists of about 40 machines Windows 7 (physical) and 2 servers (ESXi VMs) who are Server 2008 Std ed (one is a SBS 2008 but they are the same "under the hood"). The network is a gigabit w / D-Link switches. It started with me investigating slow network speeds.

I use iperf to nail down what is happening. It appears when a Win 7 machine is writing data to SMB in 2008 virtual machine, it works fine. But when the W 2008 Server VM tries to write data to SMB in the Win 7 (physical or virtual) machine, I got hurt. Difficulty is the very sporadic network speed jumps between 1 MB/s to 60 MB/s. On average, I'd be lucky to hit 20 to 30 Mbps which isn't even 50% of the gigabit network util.

At first I thought that the problem may be with the ESXi config so I gave a whole new Windows 7 VM on the same hypervisor which houses the two 2008 VMs server and re-ran the test - when I run a test of my workstation (physical) to the VM 7 Win, it works very well (90 to 100 MB/s both ways). If - Win 7 seems to be good, but both the VM Server 2008 I've got exposed the slow download issue.

So far, I did the following on Server 2008 VMs:

    • Replace the E1000 w / VMXNET3 NIC
    • Dissolved the 802.3ad aggregation of links to the ESXi servers
    • Make sure that energy saving is off
    • Disable Offload TCP segmentation
    • Uninstalled the AV in case the problem was some kind of antivirus real-time analysis
    • Place the virtual machine on the other x 3650 - the question of speed follows the virtual machine.

I can't think what to try next. Any advice or ideas welcome.

Here are the results of a test my W7 desktop for Server 2008 VM: http://pastebin.com/dGZKwxAr

Now the same test of my W7 desktop to and a W7 VM on the same ESXi host: http://pastebin.com/fugjCvjx

I did an upgrade on the spot of one of the virtual machines 2008 2008 R2 server and it solved the problem. I'm getting 100 + Mbps in both directions of Win 7 clients now. I think I'll do the same thing to the other server.

  • poor network performance

    Hi all

I'm trying to convert a physical server to a virtual machine. I'm trying to use a \\partagereseau to store the new virtual machine. But I only 0.1% of my network gigabit on the target server. To create a virtual machine from a physical server with 6 GB of disk space, I need for ~ 5 hours.

    My configuration:

VM Ware Enterprise (bootCD) 3.0.2u1 converter

    HP DL380 G4 Server

    HP ProCurve Gigabit Switch

I tried different configurations. But there is no difference between 100Full and auto. I have configured the switch in different ways (1000 auto, auto, 100Full), but there is no difference.  Also, the target server (connected to the same switch) can use gigabit.

My guess is that the network included for the bootCD driver are insufficient.

Does anyone have an idea for my problem?

    Thank you in advance.

    Florian

    Hi fLOSt

What is the destination of your conversion - ESX or hosted (workstation for example)?

Also, have you checked the transfer speed of the physical server to share you mentioned without conversion? (that is, just try to copy a large file)

  • Unauthorized network card error in Lenovo W540 with 802.11ac mini Intel PCIe

I recently purchased Intel 802.11ac mini PCIe card and tried to replace 802.11n card in my Lenovo W540. He released the famous problem with BIOS whitelist blocking:

    1802: unauthorized network card is plugged - power off and remove the network adapter (8086 / 08B 1 / 8086 / C070).

The card itself is approved FCC (FCC ID: PD97260NG)

I've updated the UEFI/BIOS in hopes that maybe he was too old to recognize the card - but no luck. Even with a 2.17 UEFI firmware there not yet accept the card. Can we do anything about it? Are UEFI future updates is going to fix it or Lenovo basically approves a list of supplier codes and ignores the rest?

I tried to find all the cards sold directly through Lenovo, but can't find anything, that's why I had to buy one separately. But it rejects it. Can we do anything about it except find another card? And if not, what 802.11ac Intel adapters can be used?

You can buy 'authorized' module AC of partner Service of Lenovo or IBM...

    FRU AC part number are:

    -04W3844 Intel Wilkins peak 2 7260 11ac + 2 * 2 BT4.0 m2 card

    -04 x 6007 Intel Wilkins peak 2 7260 11ac + 2 * 2 BT4.0 m2 card

I have no idea what they are different...

  • Lenovo W540 wireless card

    Hello

I am currently in China and surpisingly I have no WiFi in my hotel, but it has Ethernet so I got that going for me. So I thought it would be possible to do a hotspot WiFi my laptop... but I couldn't click on the option of the thing from computer to computer to my Networkcenter. That's why I found that Lenovo W540 is not a wireless card? I really don't know if call you it.

    So my questions are:

is there a wireless card? Can I activate it?

-is it possible to buy a 'Wireless'?, it is customizable on the W540?

I hope I have said enough to you.

    Kind regards

  • ThinApped Firefox 11 slow network performance

    Hi all

We have thinapped firefox 11 with thinapp version 4.7. However, we have serious network performance problems when using firefox. In the thinapp firefox on speedtest.net, we get 1000ms ping ~10mb/s download and 3 MB/s in upload.

On the native IE9, we get 100 ms ping ~95mb/s 39 MB/s in upload and download.

At first I thought it was a sandbox problem, as we have our sandbox in %APPDATA%\microsoft\windows\sendto that is redirected to a network drive. I changed this option to use the current directory of the thinapp, but this made no difference. I also tried to add the "DisableRegistryTransaction = 1" option, but it also made no difference.

The ThinApp was captured on a clean XP VM and I test it on our version of W7. I tried this on our XP build legacy and receive the same results.

Does anyone else have this problem? And are there any suggestions? For the moment, we are looking to put firefox in our basic build or delivery through SCCM.

  • Very slow network performance

I have a Dell T610 running ESXi 4 with a pair of built in maps network gigabit Broadcom BCM 5709, to which I've also added a gigabit dual port Intel 82576 NIC they are all plug a Cisco 3560 24 ports switch. There are a couple of virtual machines on this computer and there was near zero, a network, or activity of the CPU during the following tests as they were made during off-peak hours.

I noticed a few updates takes a long time to download and, after completed and restarting the virtual machines, I decided to perform a speed test that indicates the very slow network performance. But the performance is slower on one NETWORK card to another. Reduce the ports available to virtual machines on a single NETWORK card, that's what I got.

Using Speedtest.net as a gauge running on a dedicated XP Guest:

The Broadcom and Intel befriended 5Mbps showed and sometimes 10 Mbps.

Only Broadcom showed between 13-18Mbps from one trial to another.

Intel showed only 4-5 Mbps. never more than 5 Mbps!

Physical work stations connected to the same switch showed 45Mbps repeatedly!

All ports were originally configured as auto negotiate. I tried locking time ESXi and the Cisco switch to 1 GB Full duplex with no significant difference in the overall performance.

Has anyone seen this? Have you found a solution?

I got a similar promblem - found that the VM - NIC has been set at the 'flexible' type and VM-Ware tools were not properly installed.

As I was not able to install (linux, no gcc), I've removed the NETWORK card and put in again as an adapter 'e1000 '. From here, I had transferrates as expected ;-)

    I hope this helps...

  • Intel SRCS16 on ESX4 - poor write performance

    Hello world!

I need to change HD on one of my ESX hosts that have only 250 GB of total space, while we buy 5 HD 1 TB.

This weekend, I put another control (Intel SRCS16) Raid and connect a 1 TB just to copy a VM of old HD to the new.

Matrix Raid took less than 1 min.

Creation of partition on the raid drive took less than 1 min. (with fdisk)

Partition formatting took more than 3 hours (with mkfs.ext3)

    Test write performance with: time dd if = / dev/zero of=/mnt/share/test.test bs = 1 M count = 1024

    And took approximately 18 min. (1 Mb/s)

Research on google, I find some useful links.

    On the Vmware communities, I found this: http://communities.VMware.com/thread/105552?start=0 & tstart = 0

    But it does not work.

    Someone has an idea?

    Thanks for your help

SRCS16 Intel has some extremely poor write performance without cache enabled writable. For normal operations with write cache, you should have BBWC (battery backup). Enabling write without BBWC cache may lead to the loss of data in case of power failure.

  • Poor Oracle Performance consistency running concurrent queries

We have 600 million records in the cache must be retrieved on queries (filter or Multi Extractor, we tried both), but we are faced with poor performance when we increase concurrency, we use 5 son of job by node Manager representing a total of 300 sons, we are not able to get a rate higher than 400 records/s (that is, each node consistency to recover 6 records/s) It would take too long (nearly 20 days) to 600 M of process records. This means that consistent performance are poor until the database.

    The improvements that we tried:

We have created the index (index simple and compound), implemented from POF, tunned shuts down the JVM to reduce the GC, configured network communication (doesn't any sense cause we run everything on the same machine, but we tried), increased coherence nets, implemented best practices and after all, we tried to run on Exalogic , and after all, we had the same problem.

The material on our tests, we used:

    -Dell R910 with 1 TB of Ram and 80 processors;

    -Oracle Exalogic X 3.

Each node consistency is using 16 GB of Ram, and we use a distributed Cache.

Before dropping out of coherence I would like to know if there is something more, we can try.

We opened the SR and after many tests, that we abandoned consistency, we changed the technology, and now the Solution works well. We understood that the consistency is just for the cache and not for intensive query.

  • Lenovo Vibe Shot network problems

Recently I bought Lenovo Vibe Shot (Z90a40) in India. It is updated latest Android 5.1.1. He continues to lose constanlty network. I use 2 SIM cards, which is GSM (sim 1) and the other is 3G (sim 2). The two network signals are weak and often phones loses network completely. I'm not having similar problem when I put those sims to other phones (2 Zenphone and motorcycle G2). With these phones, the network is always full and I always get a 3G signal. But kick Vibe guard switching between GSM and 3G and intermittanly loses signal. I do not use the coverage or keep any screen.

The setting I use for sim are:

    SIM 1: GSM only

    SIM 2: Auto WCDMA/GSM.

I don't have a LTE network at my place.

    Can someone help me please?

I gave my phone to the local service center. He has not found the reason for the problem though. He said he will replace the motherboard and see if the problem is resolved. Now, I don't know what's next.

  • Poor search performance clustered with table of singles (100 k)

In a data entry project, I created a data type to store regular data. I have a cluster (see photo) which consists of a name, StringData, Numericaldata and ArrayOfSinglesData (predefined 100points k). Thus, every piece of data can be a scalar string, scalar number or an array of numbers.

I then do a picture of this for all of my variables, maybe 150 or more.

Works well, but the performance when adding new data (search for the exact name) is pretty poor.  Very high CPU and many even page faults for the slow connection like 1 to 10 times per second.

The entrance to the data add method is an array of (stringname, DataString). So for each new data I loop over all the variables, find the one with the correct name string and add new data (replce the scalar chain and the number, add to arrayOfSingles).

Given that I have 150 variable, as I thought a linear search should be ok, but probably the program moves also around 100 k singles for each comparison, or it's my idea at least.

Can you suggest which is a good thing to do to improve performance?

I added a search binary smarter, but it was necessary to sort variables, and since I have two names for each variable (called internal and external) that I use when you add, it helped only for half of the research.

If I find the time I would like to divide the cluster so that all ArrayOfSingles are separated, but maybe you can tell me immediately if it is useful?

    (Labview, 2012sp1)

Like Gerds link watch I suppose you're looping in the table looking for your name?

I just tested, and using DVR to extract only the ID and grabbing then a single element are fast enough. I will attach my test so you can try it for yourself.

  • Poor battery performance since OTA 2.5 update

Since I've updated my ThinkPad tablet to build number ThinkPadTablet_A310_02_0039_0086_US I had low battery performance. (slowly, quickly discharges costs) Has anyone else seen elsewhere? By another thread here, I saw that this particular update includes an update of the firmware of the battery improved performance, but that has not been my experience.

Anyone know how to downgrade the firmware of the battery to see if that helps? Or if a factory reset would affect the firmware of the battery?

Don't know what your position is, but for most 2.5 updates, you can download them from the Lenovo site and install manually. You don't know the American version has been officially released yet, but bsnf posted a link at the beginning.

  • x 220 slow network performance

I have a x 220 windows 7 32 bit and with cable and wireless I get extremely slow performance. The chip is an Intel 81579LM and copy files over the network via the cable network for example I get only 800 Kbps. If I plug my desktop PC into the same switch I get something much faster. So the problem is definitely on the 220 x. I tried various driver updates, but nothing seems to fix. I ran perfmon and CPU and disk read/write queues are not a problem. Where should I go from here?

    .

You use the same Ethernet cable between the device and the same port on the switch for the two tests?

If this is not the case, try to do the test with the help of two Ethernet cables between the devices and the same port of the switch... This would pretty quickly sort if you have an Ethernet wiring related issue - it's pretty common root cause of the problem you describe.

  • In ESXi 5 very slow network performance

We have recently updated one of our servers to ESXi 4.1 to 5. It's a Dell PowerEdge T300 with 24 GB of RAM. It used to run very fast, but after the network upgrade is very slow. We have another server that is still running ESXi 4.1 which runs very fast.

I noticed the slowness of the network in Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2 systems. When I copy a file from the ESXi 5 hosted VM to a physical machine on our network, I get between 2 to 4 Mbps. When I copy the ESXi 4.1 hosted VMS on the same physical machine, I get 80Mbps.

I tried to disable TCP unloading on the physical machine and virtual (and both) computers with no improvement.

I also performed a capture of the WireShark packages on one of the virtual machines Win 7. I noticed one interesting thing is that there was a lot of duplicate ACK packets when you transfer a file on SMB. I didn't know where to go to from there.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.

Check the BIOS of the server ESXI 5 and see if this physical NETWORK card sharing resource IRQ with another device and change it if it is.
