Intel SRCS16 on ESX4 - poor write performance

Hello world!

I need to change HD on one of my ESX hosts that have only 250 GB of total space, while we buy 5 HD 1 TB.

This weekend, I put another control (Intel SRCS16) Raid and connect a 1 TB just to copy a VM of old HD to the new.

Matrix Raid took less than 1 min.

Creation of partition on the raid drive took less than 1 min. (with fdisk)

Partition formatting took more than 3 hours (with mkfs.ext3)

Test write performance with: time dd if = / dev/zero of=/mnt/share/test.test bs = 1 M count = 1024

And took approximately 18 min. (1 Mb/s)

Research on google, I find some useful links.

On the Vmware communities, I found this: http://communities.VMware.com/thread/105552?start=0 & tstart = 0

But it does not work.

Someone has an idea?

Thanks for your help

SRCS16 Intel has some extremely poor write performance without cache enabled writable. For normal operations with write cache, you should have BBWC (battery backup). Enabling write without BBWC cache may lead to the loss of data in case of power failure.

    Hi all

In a bit of panic goes live on Monday with the first virtual machine. Host of ESX4 implemented, no probs... followed by all the guides... vm os installed without probs... performed tests of copy file... seemed good.

I went to add a new virtual disk and format it. The performance is comparable to the workstation cruddiest, collecting dust in the corner. I checked by the parser and this lun is blockage at 60 MB/s - of similar results in summary ESX.

    Here's the Info

    ESX4 on DL380, Qlogic QLA24xx. CX500, flare19. RAID group is 6x300gb FC 10 k disks. I have read/write cache LUNs and table, watermarks of 60/80... 500 GB LUN put VMFS-shaped...

Don't know what else to add for the info, but I have a sick feeling in my stomach now...

I was looking for the other threads, and it seems that people are just 60-80 MB r/w? I am more than one administrator to 'feel', and it seems that when I put in the form of virtual disks and run tests on sata II test whiteboxes, put in shape was nearly instant... I remember having 130 - 150 Mbps when executing simple hdtach benchmarks on physical servers to SAS.

I'm confused... Any help is greatly appreciated...

You use a quick format? The normal format is slow and very intensive I/O.

And turn off the stats on SP.

  • Poor search performance clustered with table of singles (100 k)

In a data entry project, I created a data type to store regular data. I have a cluster (see photo) which consists of a name, StringData, Numericaldata and ArrayOfSinglesData (predefined 100points k). Thus, every piece of data can be a scalar string, scalar number or an array of numbers.

I then do a picture of this for all of my variables, maybe 150 or more.

Works well, but the performance when adding new data (search for the exact name) is pretty poor.  Very high CPU and many even page faults for the slow connection like 1 to 10 times per second.

The entrance to the data add method is an array of (stringname, DataString). So for each new data I loop over all the variables, find the one with the correct name string and add new data (replce the scalar chain and the number, add to arrayOfSingles).

Given that I have 150 variable, as I thought a linear search should be ok, but probably the program moves also around 100 k singles for each comparison, or it's my idea at least.

Can you suggest which is a good thing to do to improve performance?

I added a search binary smarter, but it was necessary to sort variables, and since I have two names for each variable (called internal and external) that I use when you add, it helped only for half of the research.

If I find the time I would like to divide the cluster so that all ArrayOfSingles are separated, but maybe you can tell me immediately if it is useful?

    (Labview, 2012sp1)

Like Gerds link watch I suppose you're looping in the table looking for your name?

I just tested, and using DVR to extract only the ID and grabbing then a single element are fast enough. I will attach my test so you can try it for yourself.

  • read and write performance vm information top 10

    Hello

I wonder if it is possible to have some information about reading and write the totals of the IOPS / s and latency? The only one i have now in Explorer 'storage '. "VM performance top 10" is average information and tip of the Ops / s and latencies. I need information of reading and writing of the virtual machines instead of the totals.

    Thanks in advance.

    GER.

EDIT: I noticed that the discussion is started in the wrong forum. I use VoP server explore FREE

    Hello

Unfortunately, the free tool there is no distinction between read and write IOPS / s or latency.  They are grouped in a single total.

  • Inspiron 17 5000 5758 signal fluctuating series AC - 3160 Intell wireless and wifi poor problem and solution

I tried putting this on an existing thread, but in case this helps someone else, I bought a new laptop which had poor wifi signal performance.  You could see the signal just bouncing up and down on the taskbar indicator.  Also browsing the internet would give the message "cannot find server".  Adapter would show bad connection speed reduced down to 11 mb.  When the laptop has been moved near wireless modem, things would work better.  (moved and within 3 feet)

It turns out that the sons of antennas have been disconnected card wireless at the back.  There are two screws that hold the plastic cover on and once opened a 3rd screw that holds a bit of support that secures the son.  It is very easy to check.  Two of my friends have been disconnected!

Anyway, tried to put it in the thread below but may be too old, he also has some good tips:

  • Poor Oracle Performance consistency running concurrent queries

We have 600 million records in the cache must be retrieved on queries (filter or Multi Extractor, we tried both), but we are faced with poor performance when we increase concurrency, we use 5 son of job by node Manager representing a total of 300 sons, we are not able to get a rate higher than 400 records/s (that is, each node consistency to recover 6 records/s) It would take too long (nearly 20 days) to 600 M of process records. This means that consistent performance are poor until the database.

    The improvements that we tried:

We have created the index (index simple and compound), implemented from POF, tunned shuts down the JVM to reduce the GC, configured network communication (doesn't any sense cause we run everything on the same machine, but we tried), increased coherence nets, implemented best practices and after all, we tried to run on Exalogic , and after all, we had the same problem.

The material on our tests, we used:

    -Dell R910 with 1 TB of Ram and 80 processors;

    -Oracle Exalogic X 3.

Each node consistency is using 16 GB of Ram, and we use a distributed Cache.

Before dropping out of coherence I would like to know if there is something more, we can try.

We opened the SR and after many tests, that we abandoned consistency, we changed the technology, and now the Solution works well. We understood that the consistency is just for the cache and not for intensive query.

  • VM have poor graphics performance. Help, please

    Hello VMware - community

first of all, sorry for my bad English and I hope that you can understand me a little.

At home, I don't have a separate server, I'll use my normal computer for virtualization.

My computer has the componetns of following equipment:

    HOST HARDWARE

    Intel Core i7 4770 k
    MSI Z87 - G55
    GTX980 OC
    16 GB OF DDR3 MEMORY

    MATERIAL COMMENTS

    3 vcores

    3 GB RAM

    3D Graphics"is selected.

After installing the 12 pro workstation, I created a virtual machine with the operating system "10".

After the installation of Windows 10, I installed the vmware tools on the commenting system.

My problem is that the performance of this virtual host is not satisfactory.

For example: when I move a window on my screen, then his execution identified. (no Jersey... no smooth movements).

The hardware of the host and the comment system are not occupied.

Then, I checked the same situation with the free product, "Oracle VirtualBox".

Here I have a better performance with soft movements, when I move a window or scrolling on a Web page.

I think, that my host have sufficient jurisdiction to virtualization a virtual guest system with windows 10.

Hopefully, you can help me my vm tuning.

    Thanks in advance.

Drop your number of vCPU in your virtual machine to 2 or even 1.

  • Drive very poor IO performance ProLiant ML350 G6

    Greetings,

I began to administer a VMs works two Proliant ML350 G6. We used the same material since ESXi 3. The Smart Array is configured in RAID 5, which means that we have installed a write cache (256 MB). I opened the case to find that we DO NOT have a battery. I did a few tests using HD Tune running right on one of the virtual machines during after hours (very low load on the system) and the disk i/o was horrible! About 35 MBs write average! WHAT? After having poking around on the web, I've learned that without an update of the battery pack, the controller refuses to apply it's full hardware acceleration and rewrite the features. ESXi also does not implement any kind of acceleration of the reduction and relies totally on the controller in order to give him. in any case, to have bought a 1 GB FBWC (write Flash based Cache) would give us battery performance?

In fact, I'm impressed, you saw 35 Mbps without BBWC/FBWC! Usually, you would see something between 10-15 MB/s in write mode and troughs (without BBWC/FBWC) and > 80 MB/s (more probably) write back (with BBWC/FBWC) mode.

  • Poor XP performance

Has anyone seen a problem where the Windows XP/2003 virtual machine CPU performance are significantly worse than Windows 2000 on the new processors Intel? I've seen this with ESXI 4.0, 4.1 and 5.0 now. I tried uniprocessor and multiprocessor HALs, I converted the machinery existing, facts fees installs and always get the same result. I use a simple Perl script as my reference - in memory manipulation. I see the problem on a Pentium Dual - Core E5400 and Quad-core Intel Xeon E5410 2.33 GHz. On a Dual-core Intel Xeon 5150 2.6 GHz or a Dual-core Opteron 2220 2.8 GHz XP and 2000 produce identical results.

I started looking into this when I compared a real application and noticed that he was slower on the fastest processor.

I suspect that your most recent processors use hardware-assisted virtualization, but binary translation is actually better for these people, due to frequent bouts of TPR. This problem is often exacerbated by running antivirus software in the comments.  However, Windows 2003 should not have this problem if you have installed Service Pack 1.

    Hello

I have a video performance of bad quality on my machine as well as the fan power of the issues.

To add to my frustration the WinPhlash program included in the BIOS version 3.8 empty out trying to flash which gives a PHLASHNT. • Lenovo W540 poor network performance

My company recently bought a Lenovo W540 (Intel i7-4700MQ @ 2.4 Ghz, 16 GB RAM, Windows 8.1 pro 64-bit) for me to use when I work remotely. I must say that this thing has been an albatross on the first day. While he usually makes evil, wifi is the worst I have ever known. The W540 can strike only a fraction of the speed of the network of my 4 year old Dell Latitude E6400 (1.1 Mbps compared to 2.7 Mbit/s on average). Connectivity is not very reliable and I always lose my VPN and VoIP connections.

I updated all the drivers available from Lenovo and Intel but also removed most of the pre-installed Lenovo bloatware. Before doing so I could only gerer.6 Mbps on a good day - using my 3 G phone captive was faster and more reliable.

I contacted the support twice for assistance. Their best offer was to drive me an hour for the service center for support.

I am at my wit's end and would appreciate any help you can offer before I send this back to the Lenovo with a pot of vasaline.

To me, it seems that people who possess the W540 with card Intel 7260 have good arguments for a class action suit. My company bought 4 of these laptops. Lenovo has offered no solution or compensation to continue to ship a horrible piece of technology. I don't think we will buy whatever it is out here on Lenovo.

  • The Intel Chipsets correspond to the requirement of Intel Pro/1000 driver for high performance?

OK, so I know that to get the minimum load on the CPU during acquisition GigE, I need to use a "Intel Pro/1000 Network card chipset".  However, often the manufacturers of network cards will indicate the reference number of the chipset like for example. Intel 82572GI.

Can someone help me by pointing me to a list of intel Ethernet for laptops and they fall in the Pro/1000 Group?  Or am I missing something?

  • PDM write performance

    Dear members,

I worked on a project CompactRIO for about 2 months now. I started with no experience with LabVIEW, and thanks to the large amount of tutorials and these forums I was able to get what I had to work so far, thank you for this! Unfortunately, I'm running into problems with the CPU usage on the system currently cRIO.

My current system reads the 9 values from various sources (temperatures mainly) at a rate of 100 s/s. These values are moved in a shared Variable RT FIFO and open a session using the principle of the producer-consumer. The system can made the acquisition of these data very well without connecting using about 36% of the CPU. When I turn to open a session, the use of the monte and rest at 99%. I thought that I wrote too often, so I've increased the size of buffer and started logging at 50 Hz instead. CPU was still 99%. Then I moved to connect to 10 Hz, CPU always 99%. However, when I look in the TDMS files I find that I'm not missing samples.

When I search the Internet for issues to report, I find people logging tables 100 times the size of the mine at rates running in the region of kHz before they run into trouble. I feel like I'm something obvious missing here, but I'm not. I have attached the code. I added some notes in the code so that relate to my attempts at solving problems. My apologies for it to be a bit of the jungle - the problem is expected to perhaps inside the first structure of matter inside the large main while loop.

TL; DR: only 9 channels to 100 s/s connection PDM, CPU at 99% no matter what I do. What I am doing wrong?

P.S.: The shared Variable "data disk" is Array of Double, RT FIFO multi-elements with number of tables: 200 and the number of items: 9.

    Ruben92 wrote:

The frequency of recording should be controlled by the value of timeout in the shared Variable reading block.

Not true.  The time-out period is how long to wait for the data to enter into the FIFO, if it is empty.  If there is data in the FIFO when this node is called, it will immediately return the order of the day in the FIFO.  You are without limitation the loop at all.

    Ruben92 wrote:

If I the devil FIFO fail me probably a few values since I can't oversample some of my thermocouples.

Has any sense at all, if you set the frequency of registration.  If you want to save the current data every 50ms, then not keep a record you of all data.  If you care about absolutely every single value, then just use a normal queue.  It is easier to understand and work more effectively.  There are also tips to read the queue until it is empty and then sign both the largest part of the data.  This will help some to your performance.

  • Poor battery performance since OTA 2.5 update

Since I've updated my ThinkPad tablet to build number ThinkPadTablet_A310_02_0039_0086_US I had low battery performance. (slowly, quickly discharges costs) Has anyone else seen elsewhere? By another thread here, I saw that this particular update includes an update of the firmware of the battery improved performance, but that has not been my experience.

Anyone know how to downgrade the firmware of the battery to see if that helps? Or if a factory reset would affect the firmware of the battery?

Don't know what your position is, but for most 2.5 updates, you can download them from the Lenovo site and install manually. You don't know the American version has been officially released yet, but bsnf posted a link at the beginning.
