License VCS\VCSE of virtual machine hardware migration.
Hi all
I want to migrate my hardware to virtual VCS\VCSE.
Both servers are covered by the active maintenance contract.
How licenses work in this case? What is the procedure of transfer?
Any cost?
Thank you.
Hello
About Cisco VCS, you want to migrate virtual machine hardware, you will need to purchase a new license to make the transfer. These are the partnumbers you need:
R-VMVCS-C-M-K9
HW migration to E - Delivery Virtual VCS only controls
R-VMVCS-E-M-K9
HW migration to E - Delivery Virtual VCS Highway only
Please contact your Cisco representative for more information.
After purchasing the license, the license of the VM device rehost will be made by a specific Cisco team, not the team of global license, it is a process different rehost. You will need to send your request to [email protected] / * /, this team will provide instructions to rehost your VCS license correctly.
I hope this helps.

Are there benefits or reason to pass the levels of virtual machine hardware if you don't need new features later versions give you?
We are getting ready for VSphere 6 and begin to migrate some of our guests. Most of our virtual machines are at levels 7, 8 or 9.
From what I've seen, the features of material level 10 and 11 are not everything what we need on most of our virtual machines. I'm happy to walk if later versions of material are better, more stable, etc and we should upgrade the hardware even if we don't need the extensive features.
Mike O'Donnell
Hi Mike,.
VMware sees as a best practice to run on the latest version of material (see the section of the Virtual Machines on this page: KB VMware: vSphere 5.x upgrade to vSphere recommended 6.0) and if you encounter a problem with a virtual machine, support may ask you to update the version. In practice it might give you more stability or some performance enhancements.
I was like you although I don't necessarily keep my VMs up-to-date at the hardware level. I make sure they are relatively recent but.
You want to make sure that all cluster hosts are compatible on all hosts. the last thing you want is to have a failure and knowing that the client cannot run on a different host due to incompatibility.

Windows 7 Professional License reuse as a virtual machine
Hello
I have a Windows 7 Professional SP 1 OEM System Builder Pack, which I used to install on my Macbook Pro via Boot Camp. However, now that I have deleted this installation, I have a Windows 7 using the same license as a virtual machine on the same Macbook Pro. Is it possible to use the same license. Even but now machine as a virtual machine...
Kind regards
Anoop
Yes, you should, because it is always the same underlying hardware. You might still be required to complete the activation of the phone:
How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)
1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4
(2) press the ENTER"" key.
(3) select your "country" in the list.
(4) choose the option "activate phone".
(5) stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.
(6) explain your problem clearly to the support person.

Licenses to create a virtual machine is second with more than 8 cores?
So, we have a machine with 4 physical Sockets with 16 cores on each. We bought 4 licenses of vmware's standard. Now, we saw early on that the number max of hearts that we assign to a virtual machine was 32, which isn't really a big problem, 32 is a lot for our needs. So we have a 32 core virtual machine running and some other smaller, but now when I try to create another virtual machine with more than 8 cores it tells me that I have insufficient licenses.
Can anyone provide more information on that? If I can create a virtual machine with more than 8 cores, why I can't create a new one?
He said authorized to 4 physical processors, so it's ok, it's using your Standard licenses.
During the 60-day trial, you could create more large virtual machines, because the 60 days run with Enterprise Plus features. Now that you are using the standard license, you can create only 8 vCPU VMs.
Solution:
You should spend 5.5 ESXi. Your license will also work for 5.5 and you'll be able to create virtual machines with up to 64 vCPUs.

Unable to start the virtual machine after Migration - ESXi hosts
Last night I wanted to move a virtual machine to a host of test to a production cluster. All hosts (test and production) have shared access to the same LUN, so I usually am able to simply remove the virtual machines of the inventory in the test environment and add them to the production environment by accessing the .vmx on the data store file. Two of the 3 hosts migrate perfectly and are running in the production environment. However, the third server, while the migration starts.
First he gave me errors that it was missing some files. The only thing I did was different to rename the folder for the virtual machine on the data store. It was called 'New Virtual Machine' for a reason, so I renamed it to "Antivirus." However, something strange happened. Instead of renaming the folder, it seems was created a new folder named "Antivirus" and the old folder 'New Virtual Machine' was still there. In addition, the renamed folder 'Antivirus' had only SOME of the files needed. So I just copied from the old folder in the folder "Antivirus" and he hung up the virtual disk of 20 GB file. So I closed the VI client and checked the vdmk 20 GB folder and back this morning is in the folder with other files. However, when I try to start the virtual machine, I get the "cannot access a file because it is locked" error message.
I've done some detective and I noticed that in my second datastore where was the other folder vdmk, the file was now .40kB in size. Looks like I've lost my other vdmk folder. What happens here?
It looks that the virtual machine was still running when you tried to change the name, so the old folder could not be renamed because of the lock. That's why a new folder has been created instead, and why your vm hung on the vmdk file until the lock has been released. Don't know what happened to the 2nd vmdk file, but the file vmware.log in virtual machine directory must have some info as to why does not start the virtual machine. If the 2nd vmdk is gone, this might be a reason.

Spontaneous restarting the virtual machine after migration
Hello
I had a problem today: I was going to my 3.5u3 patch ESX servers with December 2 patches, so I migrated (vmotion) my VM to host another of my cluster 2 on 6 machines spontaneously restarted moments after the migration. The same penalty was described here:http://www.ivobeerens.nl/?p=180 someone faces (and solved) this problem?
Thanks in advance,
Nicolas
You use VMM in HA? If so, this is a known issue and if you use 3.5.0U3, you must have obtained an email about this issue.

Problem of migration of a virtual machine with multiple vCPUs
When I try to migrate some of our virtual machines with vMotion, I get the following error.
«Impossible to migrate from host a to host b: virtual machine has 4 virtual CPUs, but the host only supports 1.» The number of virtual processors can be limited by the selected guest OS for the virtual machine or the granting of licenses for the host".
The two ESX Server are identical HP DL380 with two quad core Intel Xeon. They are both connected to the same server vCenter (2.5). They both use the same license server. And, the VM OS is set to Windows Server 2003 Enterprise (32-bit), which is responsible for 4 vCPUs (it does now after all).
I tried moved under voltage power VM off and got the same error, so I changed the vCPU to 1 and it migrated correctly. Then, I changed it to 4 vCPUs with no problems on the new host. Only problem is, I can't stop some of the virtual machines to migrate to the new host because of the availability requirements.
~ Brian
Have you tried to change the settings of your license and apply them, just in case where? I had the weird services fails when there is a kind of latency hit the license of the ESX host server.

Open Virtual Machine File Format license agreement
Why it is not possible to validate license of the Open Virtual Machine Format file?

A popup ask agree to license, but do not show the license and do not accept.
Kind regards
Chris
If it comes to the message box shows license but can't scroll or see buttons try clicking on the text and then press space bar tab. If this make disappear the license agreement message box then use ovftool from the command line using -acceptAllEulas option which accepts all users final license agreements without being invited.

Cluster VI3 and vSphere Cluster (migrate virtual machines)
I have a VI3 and vSphere cluster. Could I just drag-and - drop my virtual machines to the new Cluster or do I have to upgrade the virtual machines ' hardware of the v4 to v7?
Thanks in advance
1. you don't have to upgrade the virtual machine hardware, it is optional.
2. you do not have to create new cluster, simply upgrade existing by-host. Virtual machines with hardware v4 can be VMotion'ed between 3.5 and 4.0 hosts

Hello
In my VB.Net application, I retrieve the virtual computer object (VMware.Vim.VirtualMachine) through scripting Powershell VI.
If the Virtual Machine is migrated to another host (hotmigrate) I receive an event (VMware.Vim.VmMigratedEvent), which also holds the moref of the Virtual Machine. I tried to use the updateview method to refresh the virtual computer object but failed with an error message stating that the object could not be found, or never existed.
I also tried to recover the virtual computer object again, throug the method Client.GetView and the moref returned by the event, but the same error message.
How can I get my hands on the virtual computer object or update after migration to another host takes place. I have to get it back again? It would be great if I could do it somhow with information from moref I hold the event!
Any help is appreciated!

Sorry, but I can only show you how to do this in PowerShell.
I use the purpose of the task to get to the prompt MoRef.
Here's how:
$vmName =
$tgtHost = $tgtPool = $vm = Get-VM $vmName | Get-View $poolMoRef = (Get-ResourcePool $tgtPool | Get-View).MoRef $esxMoRef = (Get-VMHost $tgtHost | Get-View).MoRef $task= Get-View ($vm.MigrateVM_Task($poolMoRef, $esxMoRef, "lowPriority", "poweredOn")) while($task.Info.State -eq "running" -or $task.Info.State -eq "queuing"){ $task.UpdateViewData() } $vmImpl = Get-VIObjectByVIView -MORef $task.Info.Entity I don't know how you get at the VmMigratedEvent event, but the MoRef in there is pointing to the correct prompt.
In the following script, I extracted all the events related to the task of vMigrate immediately after the vMigrate task finished
function Print-VmName{ param($event) $MoRef = New-Object VMware.Vim.ManagedObjectReference $MoRef.Type = $event.vm.vm.type $MoRef.Value = $event.vm.vm.Value $vm = Get-View $MoRef Write-Host $vm.Name } $events = Get-VIEvent -Start (Get-Date).addminutes(-15) $events | % { $event = $_ $eventType = $_.GetType().Name switch ($eventType){ "VmMigratedEvent" { $eventType Print-VmName $event } "VmEmigratingEvent"{ $eventType Print-VmName $event } "VmBeingHotMigratedEvent" { $eventType Print-VmName $event } "TaskEvent" { $eventType Print-VmName $event } } }

Server licenses to a virtual machine
Hello
I was wondering if I did the following if it would work.
I currently have the license on a box physical and virtual center server in a virtual machine. If I can just
1. install the license server in the virtual machine of VC
2 copy the trom license physical server license files.
3. turn off the old license server
4. start and stop the license service in VC.
5. turn the license server on VM VC?
Is it enough to carry on?
On the contrary, if the license server is down, the ESX guess still work 30 days correct?
tiA!
-Luke
It should work. Just update your ESX host to the new IP address of the source of the license.
14 is the default days without license source.

After Reboot virtual machine - VM not no projection in host, orphaned in vCenter
Hi all
I had a server 2 k 8 running as an IIS server. While using it last night, he hung up on me and I couldn't restart it. I went in vCenter and restarted from there and the VM looks ok to stop, but he would not return to the top. I tried to start but got an error. Then in the host ESX and virtual machine was no longer available at the level of the host and on the vCenter, it showed also orphaned.
I did a reading online and follow a guide who was told to remove the orphaned VM and add the VMDK as a new virtual machine. After these steps, my VM boots now beyond the BIOS screen, and starts to load windows then get a quick second BSOD split, then the VM restarts and gives me the possibility of:
-Start windows normally
-Windows startup recovery
If I boot normally, it makes a loop in the same cycle, if I do a start of the recovery, it gives me the normal windows recovery tools. In the diskpart tool, I see the end as well as the disk partitions.
Can someone the tsar me in the right direction? My guess is that something in the files of the virtual computer is corrupted, causing windows back his process of starting because of a hardware problem... ?
I have attached a few newspapers too. Thanks for the tips!
If this is the only virtual machine affected, then this is probably the OS corruption. You can deploy a new virtual machine and migrate data on existing records to the new (just to mount the VMDK on the new virtual machine) or go to the effort of the diagnosis and repair of the system.
If you are going to do the later, then start by identifying the BSOD error - is is a mistake of 7B? (please post a screenshot). You can start in safe mode? If you can, it would be from a local value of core dumps are configured so that you can run the. DMP file via WinDbg to debug the stop error... This will give you information about this driver etc. is causing the crash dump.
See you soon,.
