Windows 7 Professional License reuse as a virtual machine

Hello

I have a Windows 7 Professional SP 1 OEM System Builder Pack, which I used to install on my Macbook Pro via Boot Camp. However, now that I have deleted this installation, I have a Windows 7 using the same license as a virtual machine on the same Macbook Pro. Is it possible to use the same license. Even but now machine as a virtual machine...

Kind regards

Anoop

Yes, you should, because it is always the same underlying hardware. You might still be required to complete the activation of the phone:

How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)

1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4

(2) press the ENTER"" key.

(3) select your "country" in the list.

(4) choose the option "activate phone".

(5) stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.

(6) explain your problem clearly to the support person.

  • How to activate the Internet connection on Windows Server 2003 is installed in the virtual machine in VMware Workstation 8?

I have Windows Server 2003 is installed on a virtual machine in VMware Workstation 8. I need it to learn and practice the use of the Active Directory. I've also set up 3 Windows XP workstations connect to it, which means that they can communicate with Server 2003. What is lacking is the Internet connection on all of them. When I run ping 8.8.8.8 in one of these virtual machines, I get, 'Destination host unreachable.'

I'm not sure, what if the problem comes from the settings in Windows or the settings of the virtual machine.

    Can someone help me?

Thank you, guys. I was finally able to put in place. It was quite an ordeal to deal with IP addresses and virtual networks. Here's how I did (in the screenshots) in case someone else needs it.

(I also confess that it is perhaps one of the ways to implement. Maybe there is an easier way to do it with DHCP...)

    1. in your computer where is installed VMware Workstation 8 begin the "Virtual Network Editor." It is located in the folder of installation of VMware Workstation. And implement the network following (VMnet2 in my case):

2 then in VMware Workstation itself in the virtual machine when Windows Server 2003 is installed set up two network as connections:

This one is for external access to the Internet:

And this one for intranet communications AD:

    3. then in the machine virtual de Windows Server 2003 set up what follows for two network adapters:

    For Internet access:

Then, you need allow this connection to share:

And then for the ad access to workstations (ensure that the static IP address is in the range specified in the virtual network over VMnet2 network editor). I've also set up DNS to 127.0.0.1 because I installed on this Windows 2003 DNS server:

    4. from the Windows 2003 VM try ping 8.8.8.8. It should work now.

    5. go to each workstation, in my case, Windows XP, each in its own virtual machine and set up the network in the VMware Workstation as follows:

    6. then in the virtual machine, configure the network connection for Windows XP workstation. Don't forget to assign a new static IP address for each workstation, which not coinside with IP of the domain (this IP address must come from the range specified in the virtual network over VMnet2 network editor):

    7. try first ping the domain, in my case ping 192.168.237.128. And then Internet, ping 8.8.8.8. The two should work!

    Continue with steps [5-7].

    Hello world

I seem to have what seems to be a fairly common problem. "I try to boot my windows 7 VM and I get this error message: '/Users/.../Documents/Virtual Machines.localized/Windows 7.vmwarevm/Windows 7.vmx' is not a valid virtual machine configuration file.

  • Cannot import Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V virtual machines to VMware ESXi 4.

    Hi team,

I use VMware vCenter Converter Standalone to import certain Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V virtual machines to VMware ESXi 4, using another Windows Server 2008 R2 as the machine Agent Converter. Well, the agent connects to the Windows VM source very well (I used the net use command to create a line of conduct...), perhaps no chance to connect to the computer target VMware ESxi 4 and make the converter doesn't work...

    Following is the error message:

"Unable to connect to the host specified" from the converter agent machine. " It is perhaps because the host is not available on the network, there is a problem with the network configuration or management on this host services do not react. Check all components of converter to be able to connect.

So, my question is; is it possible to create a work around (like the net use Windows command above) to make possible the connection of the converter Agent on Linux VMware ESXi 4 machine Windows machine, to directly import the virtual machines of Windows Hyper-V to Linux VMware?

    Thanks in advance,

    It's even easier than that

    Use this: http://www.winimage.com/

Which will convert *.vhd *.vmdk, so you don't need to do all this... Of course, another way is to start the machines, leaving them on Hyper-V and go through the network and process virtual machine as physical machines and do a P2V on the network...

I just powered up VMWare Fusion running Windows Vista and got the error "/ Users / my name/Documents/Virtual Machines / Windows Vista.vmwarevm / Windows Vista.vmx ' is not a valid virtual machine configuration file

    It worked fine earlier today.

The attached file "Windows Vista.vmx" created the vmware - 0.log.  Simply place the attached file in the Document of Virtual Machine Package, and you should be good to go.

  • Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter: Activate the virtual machines on a host KVM

    Hello

I bought four licenses for sale at retail of Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter. With the license of data center, I have the right to install a number of Windows Server R2 instances unmlimited 2012 on the physical machine with the associated license.

The question now is: How can I activate Windows in virtual machines?

As virtualization host, I use KVM, AVMA is not possible. I need a KMS host key to set up a KMS host. I tried to use my product key for the retail license but the VMAT does not accept the key, because it's a KMS - no key. Where should I paste my product key for the KMS host key?

  • Windows 7 Pro x 64 activation of virtual machine in VMWare

    Hello community,

I am faced with the following question: I used to install a virtual machine with Windows 7 Pro x 64, and I used a new license key to run it. It is intended to be used as a production machine. It worked perfectly while I was installing it, but I stopped it before using it in production, as I had other activities to do first.

I turned today, and Windows claims to be not registered: "Windows 7 Build 7601 - this copy of Windows is not genuine."

The related error (not very useful) is: "the activation server determined that the specified product key cannot be used.

Of course I tried to register again, also I tried to re - enter the product key. I always keep a list of licenses and their hosts, so I know that I can not incompatible.

What bothers me is that I could use another license, but I don' t want to lose this one, and what happens if the other did the same thing in a few days/months?

Some of you have this problem or something related? No idea how solve it?

    Best regards

  • Can I upgrade to Windows 7 and keep Vista in a virtual machine environment or a dual boot?

I use Vista Home Premium and I want to upgrade to windows 7. I love Vista and do not want to abandon it. After the upgrade I can install Vista (same drive, same NR) in a virtual machine in tha same computer.

N ° if this Vista product key has been used to make the upgrade to Windows7, she is technically still in use and can not be installed on any computer (or even the same machine in VM).  You must either complete a version of installation of Window7 - and you must change the product key or do a clean install (so it no longer an upgrade that will release the Vista product) or you need a copy of the complete installation of Vista with its own product key.

Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear, but it's like that.

  • License VCS\VCSE of virtual machine hardware migration.

    Hi all

I want to migrate my hardware to virtual VCS\VCSE.

Both servers are covered by the active maintenance contract.

How licenses work in this case? What is the procedure of transfer?

    Any cost?

    Thank you.

    Hello

About Cisco VCS, you want to migrate virtual machine hardware, you will need to purchase a new license to make the transfer. These are the partnumbers you need:

    R-VMVCS-C-M-K9

HW migration to E - Delivery Virtual VCS only controls

    R-VMVCS-E-M-K9

HW migration to E - Delivery Virtual VCS Highway only

Please contact your Cisco representative for more information.

After purchasing the license, the license of the VM device rehost will be made by a specific Cisco team, not the team of global license, it is a process different rehost. You will need to send your request to [email protected] / * /, this team will provide instructions to rehost your VCS license correctly.

    I hope this helps.

  • Licenses to create a virtual machine is second with more than 8 cores?

So, we have a machine with 4 physical Sockets with 16 cores on each. We bought 4 licenses of vmware's standard. Now, we saw early on that the number max of hearts that we assign to a virtual machine was 32, which isn't really a big problem, 32 is a lot for our needs. So we have a 32 core virtual machine running and some other smaller, but now when I try to create another virtual machine with more than 8 cores it tells me that I have insufficient licenses.

Can anyone provide more information on that? If I can create a virtual machine with more than 8 cores, why I can't create a new one?

He said authorized to 4 physical processors, so it's ok, it's using your Standard licenses.

During the 60-day trial, you could create more large virtual machines, because the 60 days run with Enterprise Plus features. Now that you are using the standard license, you can create only 8 vCPU VMs.

    Solution:

You should spend 5.5 ESXi. Your license will also work for 5.5 and you'll be able to create virtual machines with up to 64 vCPUs.

  • Windows does not start after cleaning in Virtual Machine (XP)

I now this is twice, using a backup after the first cleaning left me in an unbootable state.

The full up, not cleaned up, vm works very well.  Boots, tracks and even did disk defrag very well.

But, after you run the virtual computer cleaning off (even if I have to force the power down after that XP gives me in the trunk to disable screen machine... is it she?) the next time it is said there is a disk error and I get the BSOD.

(though I must not force power down after that XP gives me in the trunk to put off the screen of the machine

Whence this Virtual Machine, VMware which product was first created with?

Also... To help understand what components are, how best to provide comprehensive diagnostic information is to use the command "Collect information to Support" the Fusion of VMware (menu bar) > help > collect Support information and then attach the .tgz file it created on your desktop for a response post.

Also, since you have a backup (and should always before performing disk cleanup) I would start with a new copy from the backup, and then start Windows and run chkdsk c: /f in command prompt and let next start-up schedule, then restart.  So make sure that it starts towards the office okay, then stop and start the cleaning and see if it makes a difference or proportion still BSOD.

Also if you are running AntiVirus software on the make you Mac that you're out of the Virtual Machine (s).

  • Windows 7 computer physical exported to the virtual machine and now will not boot on another machine

    Hello

What I tried to do is the following:

Export/create a virtual machine from the current physical running computer. After it's done, I plug in the USB key which contains the files of virtual computer for a laptop and try to start this virtual machine. It does not start due to "recent changes". This probably means that the OS never will start, right?

This seems odd to me, or I can't understand what is happening here. I thought that to have a virtual machine means that the operating system could not doing the physical machine, it is running on, but just saw it is virtualized OS/machine.

I would like to "clone" a current physical machine and then run it on another PC is because we need to have a client machine, convert applications on it and then return either the image (if they already had a running image) or we have a complete script on how to convert/upgrade for that client applications so that the downtime will be minimal and maximum success rate.

    Info:

    VMWare Workstation 7.1.2

Windows 7 (desktop and laptop PC run this) 32-bit

Some clients running ESX and we want to take a picture of that and do the same trick as for workstation

    A thinking about it?

    See you soon,.

    Steven

I bought a copy of Virtualization Manager 2010 at the time where converter couldn't handle windows 7.

Nowadays the 4.3 version should work well.

As mentioned previously, the mebdedded in my computer is very outdated.

On my site, you will find a howto for p2v 2008 r2 - this works for Windows 7 too - and it uses only free tools

  • The GPO firewall Windows on a host computer affects the virtual machines?

I have a few ports in Windows Firewall exceptions defined in a GPO for our "corp" domain  If virtual machines are on a different domain, group policy applies for VMS and hosts?  If I define a strategy of firewall on the host, the virtual machine inherits the policy as well?

    Welcome to the forums!

A GPO Site likely to affect a virtual machine if it is a field that is in the same site and if a site GPO is defined. All others (domain, ORGANIZATIONAL unit) do not affect the comments.

In general there is no difference between virtual guests and physical hosts on the domain behavior and functionality.

GPOS cannot be inherited from hosts to guests because these associate AD, not associated with virtualization.
