Lightroom 4.1 change unused psd, jpg, xmp file in the catalog?

I've recently upgraded to 4.1 LR on Win 7 x 64 machine. I noticed that a large number of jpg, psd and maybe some xmp files that are in my catalog was their last modified date value date even if I does not modify them. What is a possible problem with Lightroom 4.1? (I've also upgraded to PS CS6 but do not edit the files in question).

Another note: they tend to be older files (1 year or more) and a physical disk (which happens to have older files) and not another.

Thank you!

Post edited by: waforum123: amended to add that the dates of the jpg files have also changed.

I think I have figured this out. I deleted some keywords (from the list of keywords). I think Lightroom has gone through and rewrote all the files that had these keywords in generating them a bunch of xmp, newly modified jpg, psd etc...

  • Can I save changes PS in an xmp file to be read by LR?

I ask this because I have hundreds of photos that were taken on a 5 d with a striped filter, so I'm treat brands as the dust bunnies and get rid of them in the same way, using spot healing and for scratches, whtever function is called when you use the spot Healing Brush tool but you 'draw lines '.
However, I am one of those who has deplorable performance in Lightroom edits then after that maybe 20 spot heals the computer slows to be unusable. So that I can send the file in PS/CS6, as the same thing can't here.
I quickly fix all my spots and stripes and then I seem to have only the option of saving the file as a TIF to LR.
What I'd like to do, is save the xmp file, and then have LR update the image given these changes xmp.
Is this possible or should I continue to have the additional TIF file?

If the photos are in RAW format, you can open them using Adobe Camera Raw in Bridge CS6 to use the spot Healing Brush tool and the changes will be written in an xmp file, which can then be read by Lightroom.

  • How to rename the CR2 + jpg + xmp files?

News: Bridge CC in French + Mac

    Hi dear,

First of all, sorry for my bad English and I'll try to explain what happened ;-)

I did 'heap' (battery in French) so I implemented each jpg, CR2 + xmp

    Capture d’écran 2015-08-24 à 17.13.10.png

When I "Rename" (global name change) I have

    0001.jpg

    0002.CR2

    0002.XMP

    0003.jpg

    0004.CR2

    0004.XMP

    etc.

    Instead

    0001.XMP

    0002.jpg

    0002.CR2

Bridge of filter to display only one type of files, then rename those. Do this for each file type:

Do you have an error message? Which version of elements?

85 000 files require little time for import.

The thumbnails are not created immediately. This implies to open each file to create the thumbnail and save it. For raw files, embedded thumbnails are not displayed, the thumbnails in the Organizer have reflect the changes as raw. It should take several hours.

  • Lightroom saves the settings in xmp file?

With Camera Raw, a xmp file is saved in the same folder with the same name of the image once make us changes or settings for an image.

Lightroom saves the settings in xmp file? If so, why can't find the xmp file in the image folder?

If you say Lightroom to write changes to xmp, it will be. It is in the catalog settings menu, automatically save the changes to xmp. Lightroom can also write the changes xmp in the headers of non propitiatory files Select include in metadata... etc... This will write data to the headers of xmp in DNG files.

If you do not want this done automatically then you can select which files you want to either sidecar xmp header data for and then go to the metadata, Save to the file meatadata.

  • Lightroom 4: cannot change to slide show Module - Get error has occurred when attempting to change the module

I have a new MacMini (2 months) with OSX 10.8.2 and 16 GB of ram. I had a partial re - installed, bringing more of my settings from my old computer (a MacBook Pro, 10.8.2)

4.3 Lightroom worked very well until I went to use the slideshow module.  I received an error message and the library module does not open.  Read the message "an error has occurred when attempting to change modules.

What can I do to fix this?

Here's what I've done so far:

    1. checekd the disk permissions and disk status - all ok
    2. check the integrity of my catalogs and saved them - all ok
    3. moved files preferably, ending with 'plist' from the root and user libraries - no change
    4. only moved to the folder of the user, to support / library/application - no change
    5. Checked and opened upward "privileges" on the files for the library files and the catalog files.  Checked 'apply to all files' - no change
    6. contacted one and Nik to see if they had heard of this problem - no, they didn't and don't think their programs could be the cause of this problem
    7. Contact Adobe - level 1 support - crossed some of the points above - no effect

I am waiting for a call from level 2 return to Adobe.  In the meantime, one has this problem or have any other suggestions.  The only alternative I have is to completely uninstall Lr and start again.  But it's a bit drastic.

    Thank you

This is a bug, usually related to having a second monitor attached.

Roll to 4.2 from here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5487 - simply drag 4.3 to the trash, and run this installer.

  • I do not want the XMP files

Hi guys, I'm relatively new to Lightroom, and I have a problem about the XMP files next to my CR2 files. Basically, before, when I exported, all the metadata and the changes I made to the photo in lightroom will be in the photo, but now all the changed data are on the XMP file, and the CR2 file is just the same as before. I DON'T want to have a (XMP) file and want to just have everything stored in the CR2 files. How could I do it?

    Thank you

Unfortunately, it is said that if I can save only the metadata of the original with JEPC, FFT, PNG, PSD, and DNG file. However, my camera shoots with CR2, he said that if she is CR2 it would be 'saved to the sidecar beside the original photo files,' I don't want. Where is the settings to make the metadata save inside my original photo, or even create a new photo with the same format?

Basically, Lightroom, like other RAW processors, is a non-destructive editor and WILL NOT change the original image but keep all changes in the catalog.

The option you have in Lightroom's export as DNG or use the XMP sidecar for CR2 files

  • How to use the xmp file

I'm retouching of images of a customer and he suggested that I use the xmp file.  Can someone help me understand how to use it in Photoshop or Lightroom (or bridge).  I understand that the xmp files can contain metadata.  They also contain edit changes customers want as brightenes value, white temp, color etc.?

    Thank you very much

This is the menu that appears when you open a raw file in Photoshop?

Yes, this is the Camera Raw plugin.

The XMP file contains the changes that have been made so far in the file, but cannot contain suggestions for future changes.

You don't have to do anything to associate the XMP file to the image, except by checking that the two files are in the same folder.

Camera Raw will automatically read the changes.

  • How can I make PSE8 for read 'Rating' of XMP files?

Hi, I'm sharing the 'Scoring' between Lightroom2 and Photoshop Elements8 parameter.

PSE8 can't read the XMP files created by Lightroom2 parameter.

    I did following steps.

    1. (Lightroom2) set up a camera RAW file named aaa.cr2 and note it as five stars. (I use a Canon DSLR. )

    2. (Lightroom2) do an XMP file for the file. AAA. XMP is created in the same directory.

    3. (Explorer and Notepad) open with a notepad.exe aaa.xmp and check 'Rating' has five.

    4. (PSE8) Open aaa.cr2 PSE8 Organizer. The thumbnail is applied in Lightroom2 settings like exposure compensation for.

    5. (PSE8) setting rating in PSE8 orginizer watch however always zero star.

It ' a characteristic? Or something is strange?

    Can someone help me?

To test my understanding: you have the same image imported into the Lightroom library and your PSE catalog.   Then, you change the star rating in LIghtroom, and you had like this new qualification to be included in the PSE.

The only way you can do is to remove the photo of your PSE catalog (without removing the disc) and re-import in EPS.  Edit > update thumbnail is inconsistent - it reads metadata, such as the legend and the date and time, but it doesn't not another, read as tags keyword ad star ratings.

  • What metadata are cooked in the vs file stored on the XMP file?

I have read articles and even the cc manual and learned that some of the metadata is cooked in the file itself, I have to confirm that (which don't have the manual, but I am parinoid I read as bad now), as well as understand what information is. Reason: The company that I work has had problems with files that have been moved around location and I hope that the bridge is the answer for that. So if the information is cooked in the file itself, and the file is moved, a quick search in bridge will always evoke the file. Thank you for your time.

    Hi akjackson,

    > The company I work for has had problems with files that have been moved around location and I hope that the bridge is the answer for that. >

You can see for yourself in Bridge by selecting "View > Show Hidden Files." The XMP files are sidecar that store settings for the raw files of most of the cameras. Files NEF or CR2, for example, will the XMP file in the folder even if you kept the default Camera Raw default preference to save the settings of the image in .xmp sidecar files. If you copy or move your file to another location, however, the XMP file will go with it. Just do not use the option to save the image to a database of Camera Raw settings if you want to be as sure as possible that metadata from anywhere that the file will go. The XMP file should not be visible to travel even if you are burning a DVD with the main file, or move it on a network. It will simply go with the parent file.

Nothing can be written as a normal raw file, so the XMP file is needed. However, you can save in the DNG raw with your changes intact Camera Raw, as well as key words that you've added, without losing your XMP data. DNG is a special wrapper that keeps the file raw inside.  Other file formats also store metadata in the file itself, rather use the XMP sidecar files.

So basically, if your business loses its files, it really has nothing to do with the XMP sidecar files. It has to do with the not not using metadata, including keywords, to search for files, and/or a good system to organize the files themselves within your network. Bridge, btw, can only see the drives that are connected, so make sure that you do not send your files offline readers and optical media, and bridge to know where they are still waiting. It will not. If you need that, you need a digital asset manager.

If you are still feeling paranoid, or need to prove to your bosses (that is the company, after all), prove it to yourself by the fire from the Finder, a DVD with files camera raw, DNG, JPEG, TIFF, etc. files, after adding keywords or make changes to the image files. Remove the DVD and put it into another computer running the bridge. You have moved the files and you should be able to see their metadata always there, and files camera raw will have their files XMP on the DVD if show you hidden files in the bridge while viewing.

  • Can ANY product Adobe CC ingest or import AVCHD (.mts) files with the metadata accompanying .xmp sidecar files?

I had no luck with the sidecar xmp files relative in any product, including the prelude, Premiere Pro, Lightroom or bridge.

    Hi Mike,.

Okay, I found the outline of the bug. I was initially on the assumption that the question was how the XMP was written by Daminion. This is not the case. Their XMP seems fine. The bug is with the way we are going to analyze these JVC AVCHD files. It will take some research more sort everything, but at least now I'm on the right track. I tested the creation of metadata for a variety of other files AVCHD from Canon and Sony. All these files caused first create the XMP files with the name xxx.xmp. But, when I added the metadata in the JVC, the xmp always emerged as xxx.mts.xmp file. Then... I did some more tests with the file. If the extension of the file to rename. MPG, suddenly all the XMP you added the file in Daminion appeared. All the new metadata that I created has also been added to this file.

It seems that there is a specific bug in our file for this JVC AVCHD flavor Analyzer. I'll get this connected and see if I can get it fixed. In the meantime, you can rename the file extension. MPG, if you want to read your existing metadata. Or... you can add to the file xxx.mts.xmp.

Insect. Thanks for the help to identify him.

    Hello

1 when was the last time it was working fine?

2 did you a recent software or changes to the material on the computer?

    Method 1:

I suggest you run the troubleshooting Windows Media Player Settings Troubleshooter and check.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/open-the-Windows-Media-Player-settings-Troubleshooter

    Also run

Open the troubleshooter in the Windows Media Player library

    Method 2:

I also suggest to try to run the System File Checkerscan on the computer. The scan will replace all the Windows files corrupted with new ones.

Click on the link mentioned below for further guidance on the scanning of the file system Checker
