Lightroom 4 vs PSE 8

I recently purchased Lightroom 4. Should I keep PSE 8 on my computer?

Up to you really.

If you no longer use PSE8 then feel free to remove it.

Give him a few months and see if you need.

  • LIghtroom versus organizing------PSE versus CS5

I need a little help. I built a website for family and friends to view some of our family photos and videos. I used SlideShowPro Director to manage the photo albums on the site (best $59 I think I spent up to now). They have a plug-in for Lightroom to manage albums and download content automatically. Right now I am manually load on the site but which is not a big deal, if I add to an album or editing photos, it would be nice to have this flow right up.

I currently have PSE10 and PRE10 as well as the Organizer. I also have a new digital camera to come which is 18mp, but it's not really a problem for me here, and at this stage. I am now told by sales (I should have done better research forward, but not a big loss, and my son can use the package of items if I go this way) is that PSE10 supports 8-megapixel pictures so if I bring something bigger in they will be scaled down. In addition, that Lightroom works seamlessly with CS5, but not with the Organizer.

I am also told that catalogue the organizer and Albums cannot be worn over LR. I have 12,000 files it contains now and many I have assigned faces, much more then an album, and keywords. So if I went with LR to manage site albums I have to build the LR catalog from scratch. Although it seems, I can just drag - drop my files inside.

Then someone can put a bit of truth to this or clear up any misinformation? I would go with LR now and use it with my PSE and PRE10 I currently and upward to CS5 when necessary. I don't mind the initial pain to build my LR catalog if I have LR work with PRE and PSE. And 8mp can't PSE10 larger scale to the bottom of the photos?

    Thank you very much

If it is of any value to anyone here you go. I downloaded the demo and ran a bunch of tests and it is where I am at:

    • Lightroom is absolutely compatible with the application of PS elements. You can right click on an image and choose EDIT WITH PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS. Fact.
    • You can IMPORT Organizer items catalog to start. (Update: a caveat - it currently only supported through catalogs of PSE9.) I hope an update soon)
    • It is much more powerful then organizing elements, but for most of my organizing needs would have been fine. But LR has blown me away.
    • I downloaded and installed the plugin for SlideShowPro Director. It took about 10 minutes to install, configure and actually download an album from LR on my site and will automatically appear in the gallery in PHC. You can also change much configuration, SSP and either display that individual albums on one or more pages, or you can drop the gallery A with any number of Albums in there on a page.
    • You can add music to it and it has an automatic (but Basic) pan and scan feature.
    • SSP wrote HTML or PHP code for you and you just slide on a Web page and attach a hyperlink and done.

When I thought of trying to do this the other day, and even when I woke up this morning I had no idea how I was going to do. Now, the pieces are all in place and work. Not for nothing, but it is also 1000 times faster, especially in the download on photoshop.com (sorry, but the download CSP process is painful).

The hardest part was a SSP link to my database of the host (Network Solutions). But their tools and Wizard were fairly easy to pass through without support.

  • Is it possible to import a Photoshop Elements 3.0 version catalog in Photoshop Lightroom?

Is it possible to import a Photoshop Elements 3.0 version catalog in Photoshop Lightroom?

PSE 3 uses a different database to the current SQLite. Your version will host a Microsoft Access database, which is stored in a file called for example MyCatalog.psa.

You can download the trial version of PSE14 and try to convert your catalog to the current format during the installation. If successful, that should give you an optimized file named for example MyCatalog.pse14db. You can then import into Lightroom. See the link below for more information on the differences in catalog:

  • Using Lightroom in conjunction with elements

I currently use 10 items (and he loves it) and to consider the purchase of Lightroom 5.  However, it seems that the lines between products Adobe is getting blurred.  Photoshop Elements seems to get more features of Photoshop CS.  And from what I've read and watched on Lightroom, it doesn't seem like it can really do everything cannot do the elements, other functions easier, an example being the relaxer.

First question: if I have Lightroom and elements, can someone give me one or more examples, practical (and not too complex) to use both together on a single photo?  Please do not include functions that are available in the two pieces of the software, unless it gives superior results that can be achieved by one but not the other.

Second question: I do not believe (yet), so if change a jpg with elements and Lightroom, it is saved in a before changing it in the other?  Or y at - it some type of interface that does not exist between the two pieces of software where you can change everything first in one, then the other without saving between the two?  Of course, I ask because I am aware of the loss of information due to compression with several stops and opens into a jpg.  Yes, economy to level 12 he could minimize, but there will be loss of info.

    * Now that I've finished the question, I think I know the answer.  If editing first with items, save it as a psd instead of a jpg file, and then open the psd in Lightroom (is psd a common extension in both?), make the additional mods and save it as a jpg file.  In this way there is a save of the jpg.  Does it work?

    Thank you.

I asked in another perspective, the features that are available in Lightroom and that are not available to post-secondary studies. While I realize that some functions are easier in Lightroom, I guess that there is almost nothing available in Lightroom that can also be done in PSE. If this is not the case, can you give me some examples?

    Oh, my bad

Yes, there are features of LR that probably do not exist in PSE or PES/ACR. I think that the new vertical feature is not in PSE/ACR, but as I've not watched, I'm not sure. In addition, Lightroom performs all operations using 16 - bit (although the photos was 8 - bit as a JPG file), while the PSE is 8 bits of the jpg file operations. So the end result of Lightroom is a photo more beautiful, no matter if you started with a JPG or a RAW. The new recovery features of light and shadow in Lightroom (and ACR) are better that what is in the editor of PES. And editing, as you do in Lightroom is "non-destructive", while editing you do in PSE is "destructive." I'm sure that there are other benefits to the transformation in Lightroom, but the ones that come to mind now. As I said, you do not want to do as much of your editing in LR to take advantage of its 16-bit processing, before transferring to the elements for further editing.

After that you make changes in LR and use "Edit in" looks like nothing is stored physically at this point to put the changes in PSE,

Change in... creates a saved version of your photo to work on items

After the changes in PSE and do a 'save' (which is the first to record in the process), we actually just in passing back the additional changes to LR. I'm guessing that it is only through memory and there is no non-physical file which is saved (or may be a temporary physical file).

Incorrect answer. A physical file is created and must be kept for Lightroom view your PSE changes. Usually, this replaces the file created by 'Edit in... "so there is only a single derived file.

Once we are in LR, we do check to update the jpg file (which is the 2nd record in the process, but the only save the jpg).

After completing your installation to post-secondary studies, you do save it (not save as...). This backup in PSE is the 2nd save (and if you use JPG, the 2nd compression) in the process. There is no record in Lightroom.

  • Photoshop elements editor 12 from the Apple App store is deactivate the license on Nik Collection

Hi, I use 12 PES on the Apple App Store and all my plugins Nik Collection will only run in demo mode.

The plugins work well in Lightroom 5.4, PSE 12 from Adobe.com and stand-alone demo on the same Mac without licensing issues.

I have worked with Nik on this and they really tried to help me does not.

Is it possible to do this other than its use Nik off PSE 12

Of the 12, Apple App store version PSE

    PSE12-Nik.png

    Lightroom 5.4, PSE12 or stand-alone demo version

    PSE12-Nik-LR5.4.png

I was able to fix this by the presence of Apple App store purchase reverse support and then to buy the version on Adobe.com.

All my plugins are allowed on my system now that all my plugins MacPhun also works very well.

  • Color profile question from lightroom to PSE 12.

After changing for Windows 10 I find that the color profile is deleted when opening a file from Lightroom 6 to 12 of PSE.  I also get an error message when you try to load a 12 for 8.5 RAW update.  The error reads U44M1I210.  If anyone can help with the problem.

Ok. What is the setting in Lightroom under preferences > external editing > color space? Here you have the choice between sRGB, Adobe RGB and ProPhoto. The default is ProPhoto, and unless you have changed, it is how it opens in the external editor (in your case, PES).

If you view while in an another viewer of photos without color management, color will be away (dark and desaturated).

Now, there may be color settings of the specific items that can strip or convert this profile, so I would still recommend that go. All I can do here is to take the floor for Lightroom and Photoshop.

  • I just bought a iMac n. How can I install my two products (PSE + Lightroom)?  I was previously using Windows.

Hello I just bought a iMac n. How can I install my two products (PSE + Lightroom) once again, knowing that I used in windows system?

It depends on which versions of these products that you request.  The latest versions are specific to the platform, which means that a Windows license won't work for Mac installation.  If this is the case for you, then you will need to contact the Support from Adobe and demand, they give you a swap of platform.

If they are older versions, then you might be able to use the same serial number with the Mac versions of the files.

If you don't see any kind of offer for a discounted price as a result of what you have already purchased, then it is not likely a discount offered.  PSE is normally known Photoshop Elements (aka Photoshop Lite)... I expect a discount for a true purchase Photoshop if that's what you mean by PSE.

  • Organizing Tags in LightRoom even as I do in PSE

    Hello everyone,

I plan to move to LR5 because my current workflow does not work effectively at all (Aperture 3 + PSE 9)

My concern is this: I LOOOOOOVE the party organizer of the PSE so I feel that I will not be able to cope without a serious equivalent.

I have read on this forum and understood somehow, it will be possible to keep my tags (keywords). Large.

My question: is tagging images as easy as PSE9 LR5? I mean tags tree, select and apply several tags, etc..

    Thank you very much

There is a lot of overlap between the Lightroom library Module and the Organizer in PSE. In my view, the use of tags to keywords in Lightroom and post-secondary studies are easy equivalently, with each software allowing roughly the same regarding the tags/keywords. In my opinion, the Lightroom library Module has more features than the PSE Organizer and fewer bugs.

  • Update PSE catalog for use in Lightroom

I'm looking to get Lightroom and to understand that you can update your catalog of items to create a new lightroom catalog. From what I've seen, the PSE albums are called collections in LR.

Then albums just PSE become collections when you update the catalog? Is it that simple? I seem to only because as it contradictory opinions on the web to know if records are lost or not?

I assume that there are people who have done this before and I can confirm?

    Thank you

Are PSE albums collections of LR.

I don't know why there is a controversy on this issue, because it's happening.

Added: well, I think I know why there's a controvery thereon. If you convert the catalog PSE the bad meaning (by importing photos), you will not get the albums or collections. If you upgrade the PSE catalogue the good way, through the LR command file > upgrade Photoshop elements catalog, you get converted to collections albums.

    Of http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/help/import-photos-various-sources.html#import_photos_fro m_photoshop_elements

In the library module, choose file > upgrade Photoshop elements catalog.
    • The upgrade Photoshop elements Catalog dialog box displays the most recently opened Photoshop Elements catalog.
    • To choose a different PSE catalog, click on the drop of Photoshop Elements.
    • To change the destination of the new Lightroom Catalog, click on edit and navigate to a different folder.
    • Click upgrade to import the PSE catalog into a new Lightroom Catalog.
  • Can't see edited PSE file in lightroom... why?

I'm editing my photos in PSE with Lightroom, but after change in PSE, I save because I'm supposed to (by clicking on the Red 'X' to save the file).  Then when I return the edited photo to LR is not sitting next to the "original" photo  I see and the file edit.psd but it does not contain my changes.  I'm changing the name of the file and to .jpeg .psd is that my problem?

Thanks for your help, smile Sunday

    Kari

    Kari,

You must NOT change name and/or file format during the recording of the PES after changes. LR will only recognize the file that he made before launching PES accordingly upon his return.

  • NIKON D5000 NAVE - Lightroom 2.6 and PSE show quite different colors of this Nikon software show

With my Nikon D5000 DSLR camera I took recently photos of small blue flowers. I had mounted my Nikon D5000 to create for each photo a NEF file and a JPEG file (and had set my camera to use only automatic while Balance).

I noticed that for NEF files Lightroom 2.6 (and also PSE 7, which use internal Camera RAW) shows me the blue colours of the flowers quite different from what I see with PSE for the jpeg file. I feel, that it is in Jpeg files, the blue color is close to reality; and that's with files NAVE that Lightroom and PES show a blue colour which are quite different from the reality.

I also watched the photo files with the 'View Nx"1.3.0 NIKON software that came with my camera. With 'View Nx' colors Blue (both with NEF and Jpeg files) are very vlose than what I see with PSE 7 in the jpeg file (and quite different from what I see with LR and PSE for the.) NEF file).

I mentioned this problem using Nikon. They suggested that the software software Nikon and Adobe use different algorithms; and Nikon algorithms are better/more fit for Nikon cameras than more generalized algorithms for Adobe that need to be supported a very large number of cameras.

But... .it is Lightroom I want to use to process my files NAVE and PSE I want to organize my Photos. An expert in LR/Camera-RAW can help me? I would like to find a way to do with LR and PSE in my files of Photo D5000 NAVE of blue colors that are close to reality, and close this software Nikon shows me on my PC. Please note that I am far from being a professional and that I understand probably not explain complicated.

Thank you very much in advance.

An additional note, this is perhaps not relevant: I have used LR to convert my NEF file to a JPEG file format and looked blue in the result. Looks the same as what LR and PES show me to the. NAVE file (and seems different from the crreated the NIKON camera jpeg file).

One of the colors on the standard "ColorChecker" target is blue-flower blue, so they would be aware of how 'far' color can be in certain situations.  Without seeing the photo in question, it is not easy to guess if there is some special circumstance that makes this particular set of photos not close to reality for you.

Another thing that can affect the color rendering is that you have any custom-curves or any other color of active treatment in your camera, even things that the d-lighting affects a bit, but none of these processing parameters specific to the Nikon in your camera apply to format RAW Adobe conversions because Adobe has no idea how the Nikon software works.

If you are concerned about your RAW and JPG is not the same thing, then one suggestion would be to define the Standard default camera profile in LR to your Nikon camera.  I did until I got a ColorChecker passport and was able to make my own color profiles that are even closer to what I want.

Remember that making a profile of the camera is an art at least as much as a science in order to make some colors look more correct in various colors of lighting can make others seem less correct.  I suspect that the Adobe Standard profile is optimized for the color of skin is the best, because human perception is very sensitive to people who are just looking or not, but less able to say if a blue flower is right if they weren't really there.  I usually take pictures of nature subjects, not people and quit using the Adobe Standard once the camera-match profile those who were released a few years ago.

If you had several models of Nikon cameras and other renderings blue flowers much better than your D5000 so this is maybe a reason to ask Adobe to take another look.  If you had not taken a JPG to compare with your FIRST, would the blue flowers look bothered you or not?

  • Lightroom 2 detects don't not PSE for the option "change in".

I'm doing the extra change to post-secondary studies after my settings in Lightroom.  I know I have to go to Photo-> Edit in and the PSE option should be highlighted, but it is not.  I went to Lightroom-> Preferences-> external editing and it does not appear.  It says "Edit in Adobe Photoshop (not found), but I have PSE not PS.»  I launched PSE in the hope that the problem, but it wasn't.

How can I solve this problem?  I'm new to Lightroom, working with the evaluation version while my version full of ships and should be here tomorrow. I bought the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 Kelby book, but it is not the problem.

Try adding PSE as external of your addition Editor.

  • Migration from Lightroom to PSE 6

I give up on LR6 as a library because the management of key words it is so difficult.

I already said there is no way to migrate a LR 6 to the PSE catalog, so my only option is to ensure that all key words are written in files and then create a new catalog from scratch in PSE. I guess it's doable.  I will organize the keywords in PSE then

    Anyone has any advice please?

    Thank you

So if I hit the button continue in the system dialog box write the relevant keyword to each file in turn.  It will not write all keywords in all files?  I thought I would ask before I commit the action on the files of 20K.

    Yes, you must choose "continue."

It is easy to test the procedure in trying simply to import a small folder or subfolder.

Sidecar files are an unknown area for me.  All my files are simple JPEG files.  Sorry to be a nuisance, but can you give me a little more information about the necessary steps to make writing key words in files please?

Then, you have found the way to do it. If you shoot raw or use ACR for JPEG files, the process is much simpler.

Also, given your comment about the creation of the hierarchy of keywords in the target, I looked at exporting keywords LR and import into PSE11.  But LR exports as a txt file while PSE11 requires an xml file.  What Miss me it please?  Do I have to recreate the keywords manually in PSE?

I have not looked into the difference in export format of the hierarchy of keywords in LR and the Organizer. I'll take a look later, but xml files are a type of text file. No idea if they are compatible.
