Lightroom 6 two backups

I use the latest version of Lightroom on a box of 10 windows and have a backup location problem. I have the library and the location of backup on another drive in the machine, but for some reason any Lightroom also performs a backup on my main drive of video files in:

C:\Users\me\AppData\Local\Adobe\Lightroom\Caches\Video\Media Cache files

Is a big problem because the C: drive is a small SSD. I want to avoid a lot of reads/writes and disk fills completely due to the backup. Ideas?

Thank you!

In the Preferences dialog box, you can set size limits to some extent.

Some users saw the video Cache folder increase well beyond the limit set in the preferences of LR. This has been fixed in the LR 6.5 CC 2015.5 Update: http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2016/03/lr-cc-2015-5-now-available.html

Assuming that you are talking about 6 Lightroom Lightroom CC (which version are you talking about?), you must use the Cloud on Sign Out creative application on a computer before you can install it on another computer.

  • Two backup machines, we work, we have no

Another experience of hair pulling. I noticed that my MacBook Pro had not saved for several days. A few days later, I tried to understand why. I have failed and need help/guidance. I think he started his problems after I installed 10.11.4, but I can't be sure.

Apple Time Capsule (APTC), iMac connected cable, MBP connected by cable. The two machines running 10.11.4. APTC guests wi - fi, but turned off on both computers.

Network settings on the computers look identical.

APTC can be connected to the internet or not. Same results.

On both machines, I can copy (drag / move) a file/folder of the APTC partition in the finder, and it happens immediately.

iMac backup normally, from one day to the next, with no problems.

MBP prepares backup (30 GB - don't know why, it's this great) for two hours and began transmitting at a pace I calculate will take 5-10 days to complete.

    I have:

-Run the MBP disk utility, corrected some errors found, now clean tracks

    -Reinstall 10.11.4 the combo charger

-people with mobility reduced/removed various demons/startup process that seem like they may interfere

    -no antivirus program

-check the console as backup log starts and progresses, and don't see anything that stands out

-Manual backup with time machine power, both exhibit the same slow performance.

Seems to boil down to Time Machine somehow, since all the other communal work. I turned TM, then turn it on again, re-slected my backup drive; There seems to be little to do with it.

I don't know where to go from here - what to try next. Help?

    Ben

You have tried most of what I would say.

It's time for the big guns... Delete the backup... and reset TM, and start over.

I don't know why it's necessary, but it is. TM just gets stuck and no response.

As ways to work around the problem without taking major measures.

Plug a USB on the MBP and TM allows to make a local backup... If it works fine, it proves several things... most TM works, just not to the objectives of the network.

If you upgraded the MBP several times... make a NVRAM and reset the SMC... It can help.

Finally I would buy Carbon Copy Cloner and use it. It is simply much more reliable than TM, if not quite as competent in the management of incremental backups.

I use CCC and TM... I think that there is a good place to use both.

  • Can I change when Lightroom stores the backups?

By default, Lightroom stores backups on my startup disk which is a relatively small SSD. I want backups to go to one of my largest auxiliary drives. Currently, I have to manually transfer the backup.

    I have a 6.4 Lightroom on a Mac Pro, running 10.9.5.

When the dialog box appears asking if you want to make a backup of your catalog file, there is an option that allows you to specify the location of the backup.

  • Using Lightroom on two PCs

I want to start using Lightroom.   I have 2 PCs in different locations.I'll be able to store my pictures / Lightroom edition of metadata on an external drive and rotation between the two computers?

    Hello

Yes, but you will need to keep the catalog and the original image on the external hard drive.

Catalog Lightroom stores information about what the pictures that you have imported into Lightroom and what changes did you on the images, tags, keywords etc.

By default, the catalog is saved in the pictures folder of the computer inside the Lightroom folder.

    Thank you

  • What the your work flow using Lightroom on two computers?

I realize similar questions have already been asked, but after much research, I gave up on the dream of seamlessly sync between my laptop and desktop computer facilities (and catalogues) in Lightroom.

I thought that Lightroom Mobile hold the answer, but this can only sync with a catalogue and a mobile device. Then I tried to open the same catalog (which resides on an external drive) on both computers, but my laptop is connected via a network. It seems that an opening on a network catalog is not allowed? This leaves export and import of catalogs, but to be honest, it's a little a rigmarole.

So, I find myself with my office and the catalogue of my collection of photos (which works fine). That just leaves me with my laptop, which is frankly a bit redundant.

I'm curious to know how other people work with two computers... two catalogs and never the two are irreconcilable? Or export catalogs between devices permanently? Or something else?

    Hi Froodster,

We do not recommend our user to upgrade their catalog on the network drives, because you could faces challenges to access and update.

If your images can reside on the network drive, but the catalog must be on a local drive on the computer or any external drive.

I understand that I can use lightroom on up to two computers as long as I'm not their execution at the same time. My question is, can I uninstall it from my current laptop and install it on two new computers?

Yes, you can do it. To be in compliance with the Lightroom license, it must be installed on both computers. But there is no process of activating/deactivating for Lightroom. Thus, it will be great for you to install Lightroom 5 on both of your new computers. This document can help you to make the move:

  • CC of Lightroom on two computers different access to same pictures?

Hello.  I paid for and prepare creative cloud and Lightroom CC on my computer at home and imported about 4 000 photos in my first catalog.  Now I would like to have access to these pictures on my work computer.  I have installed cloud creative and open Lightroom CC on my work computer, but I don't know how to access these catalogued photos.  I don't know if it's important, but on my computer at home, on the active tab of the creative cloud, it shows 100% used (2GB 2 GB).  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you

Your best bet is to put the catalog on an external HD file, and then move the external hard drive to another computer.

If it is too heavy, some people have used DropBox to make it work, but it becomes difficult and if you screw up, you could end up with a useless catalog file. Please search the forums for more details on this.

  • How can I have access to a catalog of lightroom on two computers without the need of an external hard drive?

I tried to put the catalog and photos in my Dropbox. Photos of course transfer and file .lrdata but transfers the .lrcat does not work.

It should transfer as long as you remember to quit Lightroom every time before moving on to the other computer. If you do not leave, there is a likelihood of SIGNIFICANT corruption of the catalog that is why it must be EXTREMELY cautious when you put your catalog in a dropbox folder. It works but it is very dangerous.

  • How can I use lightroom on two computers?

Currently, I use Lightroom on my desktop computer. Sometimes it is really hard for me to get edition because I'm often not home. How can I install and synchronize my account of lightroom for my computer desktop and laptop? My desktop is a pc and my laptop is a Mac.

    Hi brittbritt92,

The simplest solution is to put the catalog on the external hard drive, and then you can easily connect and use from each machine.  There are alternatives, including using import and export to and from the catalog, but they then ask you to keep track of who you use last.
