Lightroom import not photos.  Gray box appears.

I get attached to Lightroom and suddenly the program cannot import pictures.  What could happen is a grey area.  I am tired of everything.  I restarted the program, my computer, my camera.  2 days later and I still can't get an image in Lightroom.  Any advice?

Thanks Keith,

I spoke to a support person, and it turns out that the problem was my cache.  He re-named, and I'm back in business.  Thank you very much for your help!

After years and 100000 of of the images imported into Lightroom, he ceased to import my photos (for my macbook pro) yesterday. I insert my lexar SD card, lightroom responds by locating the map (Nikon D600) as usual, but no thumb does not appear, and "import" is not an option-just "Cancel".  Images can be imported to my selection, so I know they're there, but lightroom usually accept if I drag them over to Lightroom from dropbox or office either.  There is no error message.  I guess the solution is a simple click somewhere, but I don't know where - help someone?

Right-click on 'Change file name' and make sure that Destination is selected and developed as Geoff said, that a valid destination directory is selected.

  • Gray boxes appear with the tags but no picture

I use LR 64 bit on Windows 7.  When I open LR today import 6 pictures I noticed thumbnail grayed out in my library (I clicked on all of them). Only the first 27 thumbnails faded with tags and editing icons showing. The rest of the library seems to be well. What became of these thumbnails?

If there are icons of exclamation on photos, or point the question mark on the folders icons, you must point Lightroom to the actual photo file or a folder in any location it has been assigned to.

All the details are here: Adobe Lightroom - find folders and files moved or missing

If the pictures have been deleted, you can restore backups. If you have no backups, then there is no way to retrieve the photos. You could remove the sticker from Lightroom.

If you import pictures from your desktop (not your desktop, but the desktop screen), I will say that it is a poor practice and that he should stop immediately. Put the photos in a specific folder and import from there, using the Add option, or better still, let Lightroom by default, choose the folder names (which is the date of the photo capture) when importing from a camera card using the COPY option.

  • Do not import not photos at all...

I feel stupid.  I just bought 5 LR and upgraded to 5.3 on my Macbook.  I hit Island the import button and select a folder on my hard drive with photos on it and then a circle on the bottom of the screen just turns and no image appears in the box average for me to choose.

    What should I do?

I'm starting to think more and more that I have an obsolete processor, or something of the nature, because the program will now allow me to open the preferences.  Not a good sign.

  • 5 Lightroom import not shooting information with JPEG files

When I shoot in raw 5 Lightroom doesn't have no problem importing my shooting information.  I try the super fine jpeg on an Olympus MDGs em 10 mark ii.  Lightroom matter very good photos, but there is no shooting of information that accompanies the photos.  Anyone know of a fix?  Thank you.

Triple-check that you do not have an import of metadata preset active.  In the import window, right column, under apply during import, make sure that metadata are set to None before importing JPEG files:

If this does not help, please download a JPEG sample directly from the camera (not imported by LR) card to Dropbox or similar and post the link here. We will check that indeed the EXIF metadata that are compatible with LR 5.

  • Little gray box appears after changing preferences

I'm under FF4 on Mac OS X 10.5.8. Everytime I open the preferences panel and close it, I get a box of gray px 100 x 100 which blocks the left upper corner of the screen (and will even on windows from other applications). The box goes away if I stop FF, but reappears if I open and close the preferences panel.

This also happens in safe mode.

  • opening import not photos of the iPhone 6

Suddenly opening any photos of my iPhone6.  I'm used to check the gallery opening by months and organizing photos monthly prominently in my filing system opening.  Last imported picture was last week.  I know opening will no longer be updated in the Apple system, Apple goes to the "Photos" app instead, but I was under the impression that, at least short term, opening would continue to operate as it has.  What might be missing?

    Thank you

You use Aperture 3.6, or what is your version of Aperture?  For me, opening 3.6 is still uploading my photo stream.  Have you checked if your iPhone is the downloading of mMy PhotoSream?  It will be onlyupload, if it is properly charged, it is linked to a Wi - Fi connection and the closed Camera.app.

  • I use an iMac with El Capitan and Photoshop CS6. I'm trying to add a shadow to a text on a picture. I followed the instructions to double the text layer but not dropshadow dialog box appears and I can't. Where would it be?

Double click on the text on the right side of the display panel does not cause a dialog box open. I just need to know where the dialog box is so I can add the drop shadow

Please make sure that you double-click on the text layer in the layer panel not the name of the layer. With the text, it can be difficult if the name is too long. You can also right-click on the text layer in the Panel and bring up the contextual menu and select 'blending Options '.

  • Lightroom 4 wants to show all the new photos as gray boxes.

Hello. I was downloading some new pictures today on Lightroom 4 and met with a blue screen. The computer is stopped and restarted in safe mode. I turned off the computer restarted and ran a disk cleanup and virus scan. When I booted up Lightroom, all the photos I had downloaded came gray with three white dots above them saying "loading". When I pulled them up to develop the module, the pictures were there, but I could see just the ones I actually clicked on. I read somewhere to optimize the catalog, but all this did was freeze LR. All of my old photos appear very well. I deleted all the photos of gray and tried to download it again but the same thing happened. I also tried to change to an other sd card, with the same result.

Don't know what else to do.

Help! I need this problem as soon as POSSIBLE!

For the record, I have a Nikon D5100 and a Dell laptop (3 years) with Win 7 64 bit Premium and Intel corei3. I also use a disc external hard silicon-power.

    Thank you for the information.

Close Lightroom and navigate to the location of the lightroom catalog and rename the Previews.lrdata folder, once restart Lightroom and see if you are able to display thumbnails or not.

  • Lightroom has pictures in gray. Have not imported the.

I want to back up photos from PC on external HD.  When I try to do so through Lightroom like 95% of the photos in gray. When I click on one of them, he said they have already been imported. They are not on the external hard drive and have never been.  The only thing I did recently add photos from PC to the LR catalog. Any ideas?  Thank you.

You cannot use Lightroom to save photos. Re import them will not make a backup.

Your photos are not 'in' Lightroom, they in folders on your hard drive.

Lightroom only refers to them in the catalog.

Use Windows Explorer to copy the photos on the external hard drive, or use a backup utility

5.7 Lightroom does not. I have 'some import options was made' - "files could not be copied to the backup location" notice appearing as I download the device. I ignore and click OK. I then edit my photos and try to export. Water is no longer an option and exported labor is the original and not the published work? What do I need to fix this?

As Chetna asked, you export original?  Yes, you are. It is asking to export a copy of your original file, that is, of course, not changed. So, Yes, you won't see any of your changes. That's why you can not apply a watermark. Adding a watermark in the image he'd a file not original.

Choose another value for the Format of Image under settings in the file.

  • CC of Lightroom does not import the photos and displays an error, backup also fails

    Hello

I use Lightroom CC on Mac and I try to import images, but Lightroom is unable to do it this time for some reason any.

During the last import Lightroom does not have the download of pictures and showed me the following notification: "Lightroom has encountered an error when reading the preview cache and needs to stop smoking. Lightroom will attempt to solve this problem, the next time it starts.

As it stops it suggests to the backup catalog files and the following notification appears: "Lightroom could not save the catalog named XXX.". Check your folder permissions, and then make sure you have space on your rear disc and disc from the main catalogue.

I have 2 TB of disk space available.

I tried to import the camera and my computer, however it is unable to complete the import in two ways, just that several files have been imported and import fails. In each attempt to import files Lightroom creates temporary files with multidigital names.

I restarted Lightroom, then my computer, then attempted to create another backup folder, nothing happens. Please help me.

    Thank you.

  • Lightroom will not import my photos

I can't Lightroom to import my photos. I get the error message: "the following files were not imported because they could not be read. (997)

    My card is not corrupt.

I already checked my permissions, and they are set to read and write.

I tried to import directly from the camera and through my card readers - nada.

It just started this week. Who went once and when I tried again once, it worked. Now it won't work at all. Incredibly frustrating! I see others are having this problem with no answer... Help, please!

I'm on a Mac working on Lightroom CC.

In the import dialog box, make sure you have the Destination panel open. (This problem seems to be new in 6.1)

  • Lightroom does not import photos from camera or office. I can see them in the section overview of Lightroom, but when I click on import, said simply that they cannot be read.  Help!

Lightroom does not allow me to import pictures from my camera or my office. They appear in the preview of little Lightroom and I select the ones I want to import, and then add my info etc and manipulation of files metadata, but then when I hit just IMPORT keeps saying that they cannot be read.  SO FRUSTRATING.

To change the permissions on a folder, click the padlock icon in the corner of the info box. You will be asked your admin username and password (can be the same as yours if you are the only user on the computer). Then, you will be able to change permissions.

But I agree that user is not the real destination folder. To be sure, right-click on the destination in Lightroom and then choose 'Show in Finder' get info on this issue.
