LIGHTROOM IS RUINING ORIGINAL IMAGES!

Hi-

It's crazy!  It happened a few months ago, but I thought it was a bug and now it happened again, and now it's corrupt my original files.

Here is what is happening, at least my actions to date.

Lightroom 4 worked fine and dandy.  No problem whatsoever.  We then moved to LR5.

Now, as I'm in the Library tab through images, as he seems to be pulling a picture shows upward with jagged edges and just - look corrupted.  So I look at the file in the Finder, and now that the image cannot be opened in Photoshop, preview or any other application.  For some reason any previews LR plague the REAL, ORIGINAL images.

Screenshot 2013-11-08 00.06.54.png

Screenshot 2013-11-08 00.03.38.png

Now return a month earlier, it happened when it was not a big problem, I had the original RAW files saved, but, now it has damaged at least two folders and the original RAW files cannot be opened.

Here is the summary:

-Regarding corrupt cameras/discs - I have files Hasselblaad and Canon in doing so.  I have a lot of different cards that have been used in the present.

-It's only when I opened upward to 5 Lighroom.  Otherwise, the files were fine.  JPEG conversions that have been made of these weeks of images were very good.

-It happens to one in every 5 photos or more.   That is A LOT OF PICTURES TO BE CORRUPTED.

For those that I backed up, now I have to go figure out who...... rename them etc.  AND HOPE AND PRAY for this does not happen.

-It says that it cannot open the file.

Screenshot 2013-11-08 00.34.01.png

And then when I go to the finder, through lightroom, RAW image it does not work to make it even in Photoshop.Screenshot 2013-11-08 00.34.20.png

SO this is corrupting my files so that Photoshop cannot recognize them.  NOT all pictures are affected, just the folders go to Lighroom.  All other files in lightroom (from same camera/day) agree.

IT IS INSANE.  I hope that someone from ADOBE help save me from what seems to be the imminent my entire library Photo RAW destruction if I continue with the LR5.  I have thousands of images from around the world... I would be devistated to know that this product and the situation is not reversible.

It is true that my iMac is older, but I just put 6 GB of RAM from OWC and upgrade 10.7.5 without problem.

Thank you

This issue started after having added that the RAM and/or 10.7.5 updated iMac? The fact that the G-Drive Mini with LR raw image files work on your MB Pro would indicate a problem with iMac system memory or possibly drivers display.

Download RawDigger, install it on your iMac and try opening the G-Drive Mini LR raw files. It is a much less demanding than LR application and if open files OK this probably indicates that the iMac's faulty memory.

For the iMac problems I start by uninstalling the 6 GB OWC and try LR with just installed Apple OEM memory. I worked 20 years in the design of system memory and the best "memory test" is to run a resident OS application that has the very heavy memory usage. Many questions will be that when you run such applications as LR, which reveal memory stand-alone diagnostic programs. Let me know what you find and we can continue the investigation.

    Greg,

Claes has pretty much nailed. You will do well to spend time to learn how Lightroom works. He is not like most software that you've used before, and if you don't understand what it does and how it does, you stand a good chance of losing your images.

Try googling 'Lightroom tutorials' or 'get started in Lightroom. It's not rocket science, but it's different.

  • Storing original Images in the cloud

    Hello

I'm looking to store my original photos in the cloud (not just the previews and fixtures etc.) so that I can access these on two separate changes to Lightroom on each machine computers. I understand that creating clouds is not a platform for online storage for mass mail so that I considered Dropbox or Google Drive.

Question; If I have two different computers, each with Lightroom installed CC, both related to their local copies of my Dropbox folder as the location of the library, Lightroom on each computer will recognize that they are the same images if I do the local path to the same Dropbox folder on each computer, e.g. c:\dropbox\photos

    Thank you.

    Hi cj.jonesie,

As far as I understand, you're ready to store your original images on dropbox and maintain the Lightroom catalogs on two different machines.

If you will only store the images on your dropbox folder, catalogs would remain separate on both machines so two catalogs would be able to recognize the images as even, but installation in two catalogs would be different.

If you want to access the same catalog of these two machines, then it would be proposed to store your Lightroom Catalog and the original images on external hard and the plugin that grow on the computer on which you want to install.

    Kind regards

  • When Lr Mobile sharing it restores the original image?

When Lr Mobile sharing it restores the original image?

as the FAQ says Lightroom mobile synchronizes original JPEG, PNG and video files captured by your mobile device in the creative cloud. Lightroom desktop creates and synchronizes the images in the cloud in the form of intelligent insights. Smart insights are more small versions of your files in origin, roughly 1.5 or 2 MB in size, that hold all the flexibility of a raw file. Changes to chip previews automatically synchronize with your originals. The original files remain on your desktop and are not stored, synchronized or used by Lightroom for mobile. As a result, Lightroom for mobile should not be used as a backup service.

When I save a photo from Lr Mobile on my phone he uses this intelligent overview of 2 MB right? What did this to my original data and things like that.

    Hi Chrizly,

If the time that you synchronize the images of the Lr Mobile Lr Office, the original image will remain on your phone, but Lightroom will create smart image previews.

The data remains the same on your phone.

    Kind regards

  • Is there a way to re set Lightroom to the original settings, I've been playing with it and got somewhere that I don't know how to get out of... not particularly computer savvu

Is there a way to re set Lightroom to the original settings, I was playing with it and has gotten, somewhere, I don't know how to get out of. Not very computer savvy

    For starters, stop Lightroom

    On Windows, do the following

Click the Windows Start button and in the search box type: -.

    %AppData%\adobe\lightroom

    Then press Return\Enter

This will take you to the folder Lightroom (see image below)

Select the Preferences folder and click on delete to send it to the Recycle Bin.

Close the Lightroom folder, and re-start the Lightroom program.

  • How to work the DNG? is it always the original image with the settings of self-development?

    Hello!

A question about DNG. recently, I had to put a bunch of my RAWs to print elsewhere. I copied all the RAWs and XMP files. Then imported on a different PC/LR. Others do not, some reflect my edit-adjustments. RAWS all VINTAGE.

I save now on some DNG of my final print changes.

I'm thinking a DNG in PDF format.

When I export a DNG a RAW processed, is it cooked in? or is it always the original image with the settings of self-development?

    Thank you

    Alex

Lightroom is a non-destructive Editor. So, you can take any file type (JPG, DNG, RAW, TIF, other) and edit this photo, and always come back to the unedited version.

If you export your RAW as DNG or export your RAW as the 'Original', you can also revert to the unedited export version (but not if you export as JPG or TIF).

With regard to your initial statement that you have 'copied the RAWs to print elsewhere', they may not had the changes written to XMP. It would also be a problem with the DNG format, as I said, you should enable the option to write changes into XMP or issue a command, because by default, Lightroom writes not changes to your DNG or sidecar xmp for the RAWs files.

The copy is different from export.

  • Photos of the iPhone syncs to Lightroom Mobile in original quality or smart preview?

From my iPhone, I want to get the original (high quality) of my camera photo in Lightroom on my desk. Currently, I am doing this in my Dropbox camera having read and use the WiFi, sync all the new photos in a Dropbox folder. Then, when I run Lightroom on my desk, I have configuration file shows that imports of all new photos Sync of Dropbox in Lightroom.

I recently downloaded Lightroom Mobile, which has the ability to import new photos of the camera directly on Lightroom Mobile. I created this Sync to Lightroom on my desk with my cell phone from Lightroom. What I've read online however, Lightroom Mobile synchronizes only 'intelligent Preview', not the original image. This logic for RAW files because they are huge, but what about regular JPEGs?

My question is, if someone sets up Lightroom Mobile to sync in this way (the iPhone, camera-> Lightroom-> Office of Lightroom Mobile), it synchronizes the original photo (high quality) on your desktop, or just a smart preview? I wonder if I can now eliminate the Dropbox sync and just use Lightroom Mobile instead.

When you import photos from your camera via Lr Mobile, then the original is synchronized to Lr Deskop. But when you open the picture in Lr Mobile you will see a smaller kind of intelligent preview. Hope that answers your question. -Guido

  • Is it possible to save photos from lightroom without the original file?

I recently imported photos into lightroom, but I did not back up the original files on my computer and they are deleted from my card.  The images still appear in lightroom.  Is it possible to save them from lightroom without the original file?

Your images are not - and have never had - in Lightroom, they are just referenced in the Lightroom database.

Lightroom generates jpeg previews of the originals, however, and you can export users export preview plugin of Rob Cole: robcole.com - PreviewExporter.

To be clear, however, that are not originals.

  • Edited in Photoshop does not correctly display in Lightroom after recording the images

    Hello

I recvently EU cloud Adobe and upgraded from Lightroom 3 or 4.  Since the upgrade I had problems with Lightroom not correctly display images edited in Photoshop.  Instead of the photoshop image, it creates a new jpeg image and appears in the library.  the PSD is not loaded into the library.

I take a jpeg image of my library and shoosing the change based on Photoshop.  By selecting Edit a copy, I'm tried with the original and edit a copy with lightroom adjustments as well as with the same results.

In Photoshop, I duplicate the base layer, the image upscaling, running some filters, addition of volunteering adjustment layers.

I save the image in Photoshop format in the original folder where the original jpeg was in the Lightroom library.  I record with maximize compatibility on.

When I return to Lightroom, the catalog displays the two files, the original jpeg and a copy identical to it, NOT the new file in photoshop with alterations.  If I go in the folder images occupy in the Finder using the Finder command show two images link to the same original jpeg format.  The modified file to photoshop is there in the folder but does not appear in Lightroom unless I drag and drop it.

I've disabled all the filters and ensured that the sort is sort by name.  The image does not automatically appears in Lightroom after mounting.  Any suggestions?

    Thanks for any help!

PS. I'm not looking for the subject, and there are discussions since 2007 and lightroom 2 but their solution was to start from scratch basically and I have a carefully labeled, starred and labeled catalog of more than 30 000 images and really don't want to do that

Images that are edited in Photoshop will be displayed automatically in Lr only when the image file saved in Photoshop is identical to open LR.

You say you open a jpg of Lr, then edit in PS-among other things-adding a few layers. Layers are not supported in JPG format, so you must either save it as a psd or a copy in jpg.

In both cases, is not the same image as the one opened in Lr file, so it will have to be imported into Lr appears. If flatten you your image after editing in PS and then do a to your JPG - not a - it will be displayed in Lr.

PS: the only exception is when you open a raw image from Lr into PS and you save it to PS in the format of file specified in Lr for external mounting. The saved file is automatically displayed in LR.

  • Lightroom mess up CR2 images

I have imported 200 CR2 images in Lightroom and am about to change them, but then the problem arises. Almost all other shows image up as below when Lightroom loads a preview to see the Magnifier. The images below are exported from Lightroom and the second image is cropped. I had ProPhoto RGB default in Windows Color Management and changed for the virtual peripheral sRGB profile, but it did not help. I don't know what to do. I use Lightroom 4.1 on Windows 7 64 bit. I have Intel Core i5 - 2500 K CPU and AMD Radeon HD 7770 graphic card.

Download here a CR2 file and exported image.

    http://i.servut.us/i/IMG_2392.jpghttp://i.servut.us/i/IMG_3532.jpg

I experienced a similar problem. I went on vacation and brought Lightroom with me on another pc I have used to do my treatment on the photo. I have never had any problems with the files corrupted on my standard pc.

On vacation, I imported the photos on a disc USB using Lightroom since the card inserted in the reader memory in the laptop. I shoot only raw, and all of a sudden I started having corrupted CR2 files. Each file in 10-15 has been corrupted, similar to what show you examples of in your message.

My first challenge was to consult the original files on the memory card using the standard Windows Explorer to manually instead of Lightroom and re - copy corrupted files. It seemed to work, but was a very cumbersome process.

Then I started to copy all the files from the memory card to the drive using Windows Explorer and then import into Lightroom. Strange thing, every file of 10-15 has been altered. This means, as far as I could analyze that Lightroom has not hosted the problems of corruption, the process of actual file copying was the problem.

So, with no clue really well on what were the source of my problems, I changed the settings on my software antivirus (Microsoft Security Essentials) and made sure that all the CR2 files have been excluded from the control of virus, and voila, no more files damaged!

I can't understand why MS Security Essentials would be CR2 damaged files when they are copied to a memory card with a built-in memory card reader, but it seems in fact that was the source of my problems.

As a simple check to find if your antivirus software is the source of your problems, you can try to disable the anti-virus for a few minutes (better disconnect from the internet while doing this to be sure), try to import photos into Lightroom and see if all the CR2 files get corrupted.

If you have the similar experience than me, more anti virus software support exclusion of some extensions of the analysis file. Excluding files CR2 is not a significant threat to the infection, in my opinion.

  • I opened a picture with preview and all pixels become white. Is it possible to recover the original image?

I just opened the photo and every pixel in it became white. There is no way to return to a previous version of the image, as if she had initially being that color. The size of the image remains the same, but each pixel is white.

This is the second time that's happened, but the previous one, I was able to recover the deleted original file on my SD card, which is not an option at this time.

I would like to know if there is an app or option on Preview that allows me to recover the original image.

  • Photos lost track of the original images

I bought Aperture (my equivalent in local currency of 299 USD), then after that Apple stopped supporting the opening, I migrated to Apple pictures. Just today, I found that more than 500 photos imported from April 2016 are now show as zero KB in the Inspector. The original seem inaccessible to the Photos. The editing mode does not come when I click on 'Edit' and when I zoom to 100%, the image is rasterized.  I cannot determine the cause of this, but managed to find the original images on my drive, in the files managed by the pictures, and themselves do not appear to be corrupt. It seems that the pictures or its metadata the library software is broken. I tried to restart my Mac and the repair of the library three times (starting Photos while pressing the cmd and alt keys). That did not work. Please can you help me?

In Photos preferences you have unchecked the preference for 'copy items imported to the photo library' (library management and the default and very highly recommended) or you have disabled this preference (a referenced library and strongly discouraged)

How you import these photos and what? What format are they?

In addition, still cannot back up discs (even though I followed the advice of DP - K here) & now I'm the administrator of the computer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.    Kathleen

    Hello

If your original image is no longer on your PC, you can try a different brand of disc, if this does not work you can take it to a local pc repair shop, to back up the data. You need to get the recovery disk from the manufacturing to the unit and run a disk recovery it will take off the bone and re install... He'll recover Island pc back to factory settings which should put back your original image on unit.
