  Once upon a time, you could install Lr5 on Vista, but this 'hole' could have been connected (you don't maybe unable as well, not the latest version anyway - I don't know).

  Here is probably your best chance if:

  Lr5.0 works on Vista (with the patch above), so if this is Lr5.4 you can fall back (beware of bugs).

  If possible, I recommend upgrading your operating system to Windows 7 instead.

  I have problems to import a batch of photos of a recent session. I am importing images, every time even on the same day, since a camera SD card on my hard drive using the option "copy as DNG.  My original files are Nikon raw (.) The NEF format) with sidecar JPG.  Among the 292 cases tried in importing, only 7 are converted. DNG format and do it in my catalog.  The remaining files have all been copied to my hard drive but are not converted to. DNG and do not appear in my catalog.  When I try to import and convert the remaining files that were copied on my drive hard but not converted to DNG or added to my catalog files is displayed with a check box but eventually fail to get changed or added to the catalog.

  I also tried to copy originals directly into a folder on my hard drive and making the Lightroom Import from there and get a similar result.

  First of all why you are converting to DNG? LR CC read Nikon NEF files fine.

  Have you tried to copy the pictures to a folder on your disk and import only the naves with no conversion when importing?

  Start a new catalogue and test-only import NEF files with no conversion to DNG.

  This could be because of the graphics processor.

  No, with Win XP as an operating system, you can only use version LR3.x.

  From 4.0 win7 is a mandatory prerequisite.

  Ditto for Mac: they also need a minimum version of the OS for LR4.

  There is not a built-in feature of "set as desktop" as Picasa has, but it is not difficult.

  I created a predefined export called "export paper painted," which scales the images on my screen size (1920 x 1200) and records them in the folder where I put all my wallpaper images ("Public images" in my case, Windows 7).  So I select one or several images in LR and choose Export-> Export for wallpaper.

  Then just use the normal Windows features to select your background screen images.  In Windows 7, I usually use the shortcut with the right button-> personalize or you can use the control panel. (Also note that Windows 7 allows you to select several images as wallpaper, and it will run through them like a slide show - nice!)
