Lightroom: metadata location

Use Lightroom 4.4 on Windows 7.  Great product, but I need help understanding metadata.  Currently, I add keywords e.g. UK, Essex, Colchester.  However, I see that the metadata has fields location on the tab "location".

After completing these and then exported the image + metadata, I don't see the location information [e.g. using windows explore/properties].

Issues related to the:

Belongs to the location of information the EXIF details?

Data location [not only GPS] are accessible by commonly used software or only within other packages from Adobe?

What simple/free product is available to view photos and metadata of the location without using Lightroom I often send files exported to other people who do not have the software I have.

Please I need a simple explanation or links to explain the principles involved.

Thank you.

Thanks for your reply.

Certify that the location information that is 'delete' is not checked when I export I get the GPS info in the 'properties' - so I do not claim that Lightroom is defective or I do not necessarily a bad thing.

It's just that I do not see the location precise details e.g. country, State, city, etc.

I just want to understand if this detailed info [country, State, city, etc.] is stored in data exif or other associated files when exported.

OR do I rely on the packaging of the receiver to decode the GPS data, if it can - of course software like windows Explorer does not only.

Y at - it a single or video explanation that explains that?  Tutorial of Julieanne Kost on mapping is good, but it does not explain how/where that location information is stored.

Thank you very much.

  • What are all the places where lightroom metadata are written?

Hi, I have a question about the location of all the metadata (IPTC, keywords, etc.), written in Lightroom 5 to my raw files. I understand that this data is written (embedded) jpg files, but as an .xmp file beside the raw files. My question is, if I purge the JPGs and do NOT copy the .xmp files updated constantly to my backup drives, and if I had to lose my Lightroom Catalog, all my Lightroom metadata I've added will be lost? Alternatively, Lightroom keeps all my metadata in the catalog file? Is the Lightroom Catalog the location of the "source" of data that are added to the jpg and .xmp file?

Thanks for any help explaining this arrangement for me!

    DLMST

By default, your metadata are NOT written in JPG or RAW sidecar XMP files.

By default, all metadata are written in the Lightroom Catalog. In addition, there is no way to disable this option, your metadata are always stored in the Lightroom Catalog. So, if you are concerned about making backups and restoring of backups, you must backup/restore photo files and the Lightroom catalog file. In fact, I consider mandatory Lightroom (on a different physical disk) backups of photos and catalog files.

You can optionally write metadata to the JPG or sidecar XMP files, but this method never gives you a complete backup of all of your metadata. It can be a valuable additional insurance.

My question is, if I purge the jpg files

This isn't a good idea, I can't imagine why you would want to "purge" your original photos, especially if you are concerned about their restoration at a later date

  • Lightroom CC location GPS to Google Photos

If I export my data GPS Locator as well as my photos and import these images exported to Google pictures Google reads the location data? Has anyone tried this before? I tried once and it seems not, but maybe I did something wrong.

It works very well, but because the photo locations are sometimes private information, you should check that your export settings are positioned to allow location information to include in the exported images. In the export dialog box in the metadata Panel:

    • To include, select 'All metadata' or 'All except camera and camera Raw Info'. The other two choices do not include the metadata location or GPS.
    • Make sure that "delete location Info" is not selected.

With these settings, metadata location will be included and legible in Google Photos and any other service that can show images on a map.

  • Photo Pro Tools metadata location = "/"?

I am trying to access the location of image metadata that I added using Pro Photo Tools from Microsoft.  Most of the fields are working well. However, I set data type string for location, city, state/region, country, etc. Data seems OK in the application, example location "Frozen Head State Park"... When I try to access data in Visual Studio (Tiffmetadata.setquery), it appears as ' / '.  Should not the "Location" field write metadata "place"?

    Hello

Your question is more complex than what is generally answered in the Microsoft Answers forums. It is better suited for the Windows Imaging Component in MSDN. Please post your question in the MSDN forum.

  • Relocation of Lightroom: metadata changed / conflict

I recently had to restore the factory settings on my computer.  It was uninstall and reinstall Lightroom.  After this painful process, my images now have one of the two alarming icons in the upper right corner.

    I understand that these indicate:

    • pointing arrow up: metadata was changed externally
    • exclamation point: metadata a conflict

Which ever I press, I get the same error message.  Please see the image below:

    Screen Shot 2016-07-27 at 8.14.19 AM.png

Some images I edited in Lightroom only and others I exported to Nik or Photoshop to change.

Whatever it is, I want my images to keep the changes that I made.  And I would do a lot to change so that I don't have these arrows upward and the exclamation marks on any of my images in the catalog.

FYI - my Lightroom Catalog is on an external drive.

I do not understand what is meant by "Lightroom should import the settings of disc or replace drive with the catalog settings"?

Would be happy to help with this.

As a general rule, all of your changes to the image and changes to metadata are stored in the Lightroom Catalog.  Depending on the options that you have defined, and if you have invoked some orders, changes and metadata can also be stored in files or in sidecar .xmp (for the raws).  So when you have restored your computer, as long as you used the latest version of your catalog folder, you have all of your changes and metadata.

The icon 'Metadata has changed outside' means that LR think an external application changed the metadata from the image file after the last time that a change has been made in LR.

The icon 'Metadata a conflict' mean that LR thinks that, since the last time RL read the metadata of the file, the changes to the metadata of the image has been made within the LR and by an external application.

I think what happens is that the process of restoring your computer has changed the date of last modification of most of your files (this is the date maintained by OS X and Windows, whenever a file of any type is changed).  This change dates of confuses LR.

Assuming that this is what happened, it is relatively harmless.  To get rid of the warning icons, select all images and make the metadata > save metadata to file.  If you have a very large catalog, this could take a long time to complete, and it may cause your program to backup re - backup images. However, to be on the safe side, I recommend making sure that you have a backup of the two catalog folder itself and your image of all files before you do.

  • Not to recognize the lenses in the Lightroom metadata

Lightroom CC 2015.6 Camera Raw 9.6 acknowledges is no longer my nikkors (85mm and 50mm) used on my camera Nikon D800.  This has only been the case since the last update and I've never had these problems before with the same cameras and the same lenses.  Is there a way to fix this or is this a bug?

    Thank you!

When did you import these files? In an earlier version of Lr? 6.6 corrects this problem, so select the affected image and do save metadata to file (Ctrl S or S CMd in WIndows) and then do a metadata > read metadata.

  • First metadata location appears.

    Hello

I changed my default map for option 'left picture, right of metadata.

I put 3 metadata values. However, in the configuration of the card, and then on the device, the first value in metadata does not display. It doesn't seem to matter what value of metadata is defined in the first place, it will not display.

    Attached screenshots:

1 - Configuration of the material. Set of metadata for the 'title '.

2 - Card configuration. First value in metadata does not appear (no matter what value is selected in the menu drop-down).

    2-card.png

3 - display in the application on the device. No value is displayed in the first location of metadata.

    Everyone knows about this problem?

    Can you please advise?

    Thank you
    David.

    Hello

Is the card that you are using the default map by chance? And the font color is actually white, if you don't see it on the bottom? (You can modify it to the metadata 1 field, in the Style of metadata tab).

    Thank you

  • Photoshop to Lightroom - metadata Mix went!

I tested sending Mix PS to Lightroom photos now and feature is welcome, but still once, Adobe has managed to strip all metadata in the photo. No timestamp or other EXIF information. Why?

    Hi Henrik,

You're right, that Photoshop Mix does not currently keep EXIF data on export. We will consider adding this feature in the future.

  • FTP download via mobile with Lightroom metadata?

I was asked to do a job where I take pictures on my mobile and download it directly to an FTP with metadata. Is this something I can do with mobile Lightroom? Or should I return to my laptop after the shooting and do it this way?

OK, let's assume that you have installed on your mobile device from the Dropbox app. Then in LrMobile, you go to the image and press the share icon. The second element is open, and you should see listed Dropbox. Choose it and dropbox app then gives you a Save button that downloads the adjusted image.

I have not checked if this includes metadata, and it seems to be a single image at a time. I used it only to get adjusted screenshots from my iPad to someone, if it works for you is so something you will need to evaluate and perhaps something else will be more suitable. My guess is that if you load an iOS FTP application (many of them around) you would go through a similar workflow, button share and then share or opened in.

  • Lightroom Metadata does not transfer to bridge

    Hello

I have a problem with my metadata description / legend when exporting to Photoshop CS6 area, then save for web and devices.

Once I have a save for web and display the image in Bridge all the necessary fields are transferred from Lightroom except description / legend field.

Here are the steps I followed here.

    > Check automatically save changes to XMP settings cataloge

    > Check the box in the Basic info and legend sub fields in edit metadata presets

    > (Command, E) , edit a copy with Lightroom adjustments

    > Resize then (save for Web and devices) in Photoshop CS6

If someone could offer me advice on this subject, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

Why do you save for web in PS and not just export from Lightroom to an apropriate size? I guess that you are reasonably new to Lightroom, as everything you want can be done with Lightroom rather than using the 3 possibilities of use: Photoshop Lightroom, Bridge,.

  • Location of data metadata location VS

    Hello

When you double-click a module and there is this screen popped up that has three tabs, name, location of metadata, data location.

First of all, could someone explain what is the difference between the location of the metadata and data?

Second, if I issue the following two commands:

    SET GATEWAY_MODULE «M_DB2' OMBALTER «L_DB2» REFERENCE LOCATION

    OMBALTER GATEWAY_MODULE 'M_DB2' SET VALUES OF PROPERTIES (DB_LOCATION) ("L_DB2")

What in fact did each of the two commands? Who changes the location of metadata, and which changes location data?

And finally, on the location of the metadata tab, if the location is set to < unspecified >, what could be (bad) effect?

You can correct me if I'm wrong.

    Any response is appreciated.

    Thank you
    Sozy

    Hi Sozy,

First of all, could someone explain what is the difference between the location of the metadata and data?

Location of metadata is only used OWB during the import object definitions. Rather the data locations used during code generation for mapping source.

What in fact did each of the two commands?

First order (LOCATION OF REFERENCE DEFINED) defined the "New Configuration by default" property in the list of the selected locations in the dialog properties of Module (Data tab).
This action takes effect only during the creation of the new Configuration.

Second command (SET PROPERTIES (DB_LOCATION)) changes the link from the module to the location of data specified (it changes the 'Rental' module configuration property)
    for the current configuration.
In the warehouse business target - after this change, module you deploy different location objects.
In case source module - after this change OWB use new location for referncing tables/views in the generation / deployment of mapping.

Who changes the location of metadata, and which changes location data?

Both commands take effect only at the location of the data

And finally, on the location of the metadata tab, if the location is set to , which might be (bad) effect?

You can leave unspecified if you do not plan to import database table definitions

    Kind regards
    Oleg

  • Importing iPhoto face rather than Lightroom Metadata names faces

I plan to spend 10,000 photos from iPhoto to Lightroom.  I have spent a lot of time, marking of faces in iPhoto.  When they are imported into Lightroom, the face names are stored as keywords, rather than be incorporated into Lightroom face recognition system.  The importer of iPhoto is unable to interface with face recognition to Lightroom?

Faced with tags in Iphoto being recognized as keywords in Lightroom after import is the behavior expected (by design) as mentioned in the article below:

  • How to save Lightroom metadata 4 on video files?

Hello, I just had a problem with LR4.

The full version of instaled a few days on my old computer. Just got a new computer which I instaled LR4 and imported all my latest work and noticed that all the metadata of the video (.mov) were not saved in files (pictures are OK!)

So all editing and rating/flags/color filter I did disappeared.

Thought I forgot to save the metadata on my old computer and did some tests.

I did some side and some color filters on my real catalog then saved metadata a couple of times. Removed from the library and reimported and metadata were not there yet. Has done the same for Photos and is very good!

    Any guess?

I do something wrong or LR4 does not write XMP of video files?

Just lost hours of work at the cutting edge and rating a video work from my old computer was gone.

    Apreciate any help!
