Limitation of database snapshot?

We do ORACLE database 11G DG exercise instant. I would like to know except next operation that any other operation will cause database snapshot can NOT convert return?

Suite database snapshot cause can will NOT convert back to physical standby DB:

size of data file shrink small • as the original
• fall of data file in which the original is on physical standby
• drop tablespace that exist pending physical

Thank you.

9.8 convert an instant relief to a physical database database ensures

Any operation that cannot be reversed by using the Flashback Database technology will prevent a day before the snapshot being converted to a physical standby.

It cannot be used to fix the failings of the media, or recover the accidental deletion of data files.

Cannot be done after the passage of archivelog noarchivelog and return to archivelog.

You cannot use FLASHBACK DATABASE back to a point in time before the restoration or re-creation of a control file.

Some NOLOGGING operations may cause it to fail, as a direct path INSERT.

  • Snapshot of Eve in 11 GR 2 SE database

    Hi all.

Recently, a colleague tells me that in SE without Dataguard is perhaps to create a database of instant start.

In all the documents I found and differences between editions Database Snapshot is inside DataGuard and only for the EA.

    Can anyone confirm this?

    Thank you to.

    Kind regards.

    G.

    Hi g

You are right. DataGuard is available in Enterprise edition and standby database snapshot is private term dataguard enviroinment. That means your co-worker means ensure that database snapshot. ?

As you mentioned below, you can create the standby database and apply archivelog but this isn't average real dataguard enviroinment.

    • Oracle Data Guard is available only as a feature of Oracle Database Enterprise Edition. It is not available with Oracle database Standard edition.

      Note:

It is possible to simulate a boot environment of database with the Oracle Database Standard Edition databases running. You can do this by transferring manually archived redo of log files using a utility to copy of the operating system or using custom scripts that send regularly archived redo log files of one database to another. The consequence is that this configuration does not provide the ease of use, manageability, performance and recovery features available with Data Guard disaster

You can check the availability of the feature in the database editions.

  • Select the flashback in my database from backup

    Hello

Can I activate flashback in my database waiting without primary database?

I need to convert standby database snapshot one.

    Best Regads.

    Hello

    Yes you can.

To create the snapshot in the standby mode, you create guaranteed restore point. To create the restore point Flashaback must be enabled in the database.

  • I - delta.vmdk files, non - .vmsn files. It is safe to delete all the snapshots in snapshot Manager?

    Hello

Our VM froze because our ESXi data store is full. I deleted - .vmsn for the 1st file snapshot via CLI (using the "rm" command).

VM is on thick disk and have 2 snapshots. so I still - flat.vmdk, - delta.vmdk. (for the two snapshots) and - .vmsn (only for the 2nd snapshot).

wouldn't be all right if I delete all the snapshots in snapshot Manager? ATM, we don't have that 8 GB on the data store, and snapshot size is approximately 67GB

    Thank you

    Dan

The lack of . VMSN file shouldn't cause problems because it is necessary in case you want to or need to go back to a snapshot. In all cases, with only 8 GB of free space on the disk, you can consider deleting the snapshot with the virtual machine being turned off. This avoids the need for disk space temporary additional database snapshots while / delta are merged into the base/flat disc.

  • Basic Data Center Virtual Clone or snapshot

I don't know how to do in this regard.

I need to clone or our SQL VM that is running the database snapshot vCenter, but of course when you stop the server vCenter stops responding.  We do not have a physical SQL Server, otherwise I would have put the that vCenter db.

can I clone it from the command-line safe?

How can I go about creating a backup before a major upgrade of the virtual machine?

    Thank you people!

I don't know if this is possible in ESX 3.5, because I'm in vSphere now.

Stop your vCenter, point your VI the esx Server that hosts the VM vCenter Client. (root user name and pass) and see if you can use clone.

It is not a best practice, and yet once again, I'm not sure if this is posible in 3.5.

But, why not to use SQL Server backup?

    Good luck.

  • Snapshot can work under any other RDBMS collapses...

    Hello.

I have a question for the snapshot function. When I stop db that provide data in another db via dblink and instant.
database a data snapshot of database through B. If I shotdown database A, advised me that the user can search with database snapshot B or not.

    Database A - DB link - database B

    Table Z - instant-> table Z'
    Array-snapshot-> table Y'
    Table X - instant-> table X'
    ...

Could someone let me know user can run sql choose?

    Thank you.

A snapshot is a physical copy of the data.
Thus, a snapshot of database 'B' in the table 'XYZ' in the database 'A' is in fact internally maintained as a table of database 'B '. Users can still query capture instant, even when the database 'A' is out of service.
I was addressing the caveat is that if you have set FULL refresh as they use TRUNCATE, the next run of the snapshot update tronquerait all data in the database 'B '. And you would not be able to recover the data truncated (unless restore you a copy of 'B' or restarted 'A' and do the update).

Even in the opposite case, if the database 'A' is down and you have not disabled the work of refreshment, Oracle will keep try again them several times until each of them fails 16 consecutive times.
You can see the error messages in the file database alert.log 'B' and follow-up for each update files failed.

You must disable (for example mark them as BROKEN if they run like DBMS_JOBs) or delete the jobs of refreshment for the term 'A' is broken.
You can re-enable or restore jobs in the database 'B' after 'A' returns to the top.

  • Test of physical Standby DB 11 g

    Hi all

My company is considering a DR test in a few months, and since I never did this until I was wondering what would be the best way to go on the DB pending tests. This is a database of 11G (11.2.0.3). I read the following articles:

    http://gavinsoorma.com/2009/09/11g-snapshot-standby-for-real-time-testing/

    http://www.Pythian.com/blog/testing-a-physical-standby-database-in-Oracle-10G/

    http://www.Oracle.com/technetwork/articles/SQL/11g-DataGuard-083323.html

From what I can tell the snapshot method is the easiest. My main question is when the primary method still must send the archive logs to the waiting or can I defer only to archive log shipping? How we test normally the site of DR is completely disconnect the network connections and put everything in place for the primary will not be able to speak to the waiting and vice versa. Or is the best method to follow the other article that speaks using the flashback database?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Are you in 11g, yes instant is a nice feature to test your intelligence. If you enable the destination, there is no problem. Meanwhile if too many records are generated and then it takes a long time to get a site to DR.

How we test normally the site of DR is completely disconnect the network connections and put everything in place for the primary will not be able to speak to the waiting and vice versa

You can also completely disconnect the primary DR and tests after the conversion of the physics on the eve of the snapshot if it is your condition to do so.

Or is the best method to follow the other article that speaks using the flashback database?

In traditional flashback, you will need to take care just like the creation of restore point with guarantee, mode standby manually and run again then flashback to the restore point. Snapshot is really simple and easy to use. If am in your position of course I use the standby database snapshot.

  • blocking direct access to the oracle server

    Dear Sir

One of our condition of pci - dss to stop direct access to the db. One solution I know:

    TCP.validnode_checking = YES

    TCP.invited_nodes = (192.168.1.91, visionhost.solutionbeacon.com)

But this option will allow the IP address of the node invited with sqlplus using tns names also. Have any have experience to solve the problem of ending up with pci - dss?

In which paragraph of the PCI - DSS doc that makes you think that there is a problem? I work with version 3.0 (November 2013) and I can't find anything like that. For example, paragraph 8.7 c, "review of database access control settings and application of database to verify configuration settings that the user access directly to the or queries of databases are limited to database administrators" does not say that the DBA is not able to connect to the application server. And all the stuff of firewall in requirement 1 close the access to the network and between networks, not within the network.

Are you sure that you have a problem? There is no interest to 'fix' something that doesn't have a reference in the doc.

    Mihir Hello,

If the host is having more number of snapshots for virtual machines, you will be running such problems.

Please the devil on the virtual machine for large number of snapshots.

The default value of ThreadstackSizekb is 128 and can handle only a limited number of snapshots.

If you exceed this number then e will host disconnected.

Rather than increase the value of threadstack, we can delete or consolidate snapshots for virtual machines.

There is a line in the file vpxa.cfg on the host that has a entry and the value 128.  When vpxa service attempts to connect to vCenter this Thread stack is limited to not allow the virtual machines that are too many clichés.

If you do not want the pictures should be deleted, we will increase the threadstacksize so that the host can handle more number of snapshtos.

Please let me know if you still have questions.

    Thank you

    Sam

  • Consolidation of disks of virtual machines is necessary

I did something really stupid and cancelled snapshot creation task.  Sound running on ESXi 5.5.0, server there are a few other vm running on it.  Now there is a message saying that the consolidation of the disk is necessary.

Thing is that it was the first snapshot of this virtual machine. Should I try to consolidate, ignore this message or maybe try to make the new snapshot?

    John,

I know, it shouldn't be a problem. You can simply consolidate the disks. He speaks, because when a snapshot is made, a new delta vmdk (VM disk file) is created. All the new changes from there are saved in this new VMDK, but since you abandoned the snapshot process, the virtual machine is probably running on a delta disc, but the database snapshot does not report an instant success.

I would like to know if it works for you,

  • Size of disk

I realize this question has been asked several times and ive read by a large number of them, but I'm still not sure how to set up.

I have 8 x 600 GB installation disks in a RAID 10. That leaves me with 2.4 TB of space. I have a PERC 6i card in my dell server, which has 5.1 installed ESXi.

I want to do 1 x 100 GB logical partition on the RAID to the operating system

I want to do the rest of the space (2.3 tb) in one big disk for storing files on this OS.

I need to create a 2 to (-512 b) logical drive and a logical drive of 300 GB on the card, then join them in vmware then add them as a second drive of the virtual machine?

Or can I create 1 x 2.3 tb logical drive and just add that?

Also if I need to create a 2 TB and a logical drive of 300 GB and join them, will this impact performance?

    Thank you!

Sorry I thought you meant the VMFS volumes. In case the guest operating system partitions 100 GB for OS is fine no problem. For data disc, even though the VMFS partition size was brought to 64 TB in vSphere 5.x, the virtual disks are still limited to 2 TB. Therefore, if you have the volume 2.3 TB together as a single LUN so the only option you have is to use RDM in physical compatibility mode. However, RDM in physical compatibility mode comes with its own set of limitations like not snapshots, cloning, etc.. If you do not want to use all the features, then you need to split the amount of data on several virtual disks on a VMFS volume.
