Links to resources on the Linux Oracle database

Hi, anyone knows where to find the items, case studies or related literature on the benefits of putting Oracle under Linux? I need information to propose changes in our environments. Basically, I want to answer, "why move Oracle databases to Linux?" Currently, most of our databases are on Windows servers.

Any help would be appreciated.

1 stability
2. Security
3 performance
4 cost

Do you need more?

Execution of any RDBMS on a platform that requires frequent updates antivirus and antivirus software to prevent compromise just makes no sense.

Running a RDBMS on a platform that requires you to support a CPU eat MISTLETOE, even if it has nothing to do with the execution of the RDBMS is meaningless.

If you need more your management can contact me offline.

    Hello

Partitioning your disks for ASM configuration as 'A' might make sense. If you lose one disk, you have the discs to another.

'B' totally make sense if you have lost the disc that you have lost all group ASM and you need to change this with something like 'C '.

But obviously you need redundancy ASM configured appropriately.

    • 1. the speed of the disks (redologs online had to be faster disk)

    • 3. the multiplex control files
    • 4. after archivelogs on another disk
    • 5. other than the DATA + and + FRA

Yes, but 2-4 points can be met with groups of two discs as well - + data the primary file hosting and + FRA accommodation multiplexes copies.

  • Turning to Oracle RAC to the only Oracle database

    Hi all

We are responsible for "make a copy" of Oracle RAC database a customer and our plan is to finish with the FCAC and allows you to host a new unique Oracle database. Very few of us familiar with CARS and looking for suggestions on how to do it (without affecting the source JAR).

Can take a full expdb of the source database and simply use impdp to import into the standalone database server?

    Comments/suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Can take a full expdb of the source database and simply use impdp to import into the standalone database server?

It is an option. Data pump does not care if the source and/or destination is CARS or a mix. If the database is too large, it can take a lot of time to complete.

Another option is to use the DOUBLE of RMAN feature. And another option is to restore the database from a backup.

  • can I use "Oracle Database 12 c: performance management and Tuning" training for the certification "Oracle Database 11g: Performance Tuning 1Z0-054 '"»

I took "Oracle Database 12 c: new performance management and Tuning" the oracle University training. Now I would like to get certified on "Oracle Database 11g: Performance Tuning 1Z0-054 ' exam. Is this possible?

I guess you ask if you can use the course 12 c as long as the condition of course for the review of 11g.  Over 12 c is not listed as one of the options for the 11 g certification and course requirements are normally specific version - at least with DBA certifications.  If you are already an Oracle OCP DBA, of course, there is no requirement of course for the review of performance tuning.  From what I know the training requirements for other certifications, I do not that you will be able to use it. However, Brandye will provide a definitive answer to whether the course 12 c would be acceptable for 11g certification.

That said, I'm with John - 12 c review is about a community of 85 to 90% in the review of the 11g and is currently about 20% of the price while it is in beta.  What is the point of trying to cross the releases?

  • The available oracle database versions are here free?

    http://www.Oracle.com/technetwork/database/Enterprise-Edition/downloads/index.html

These downloads are on the official website of oracles. They are trial versions? If not can use them to use commercial House-No. I can't download and find out because I have a connection low flow.
    Thanks in advance

Version basic OTN downloads are free to use under a very limited set of restrictions.  Essentially for a single user.  If you want to support the client on the system, you will need to purchase a license.  If you want patches.  You must purchase a license, etc...

Oracle provides Oracle Express, which is free and can be used for issues purposesl however read the license agreement.  The database is limited to 4G in size and it lacks some features such as partitioning, OLS, CARS, etc...

  • Question about the Oracle database resource management

    Good evening
I have a question about Oracle database Resource Management (DRM) for Oracle Database 10 g. I had an incident which, in a development/UAT environment (different instances, same box, don't ask), a developer wrote a wrong SQL statement that consumed 99% of the CPU. Currently, there is no limit of resources on two cases of db, and the developers don't want limits. However, my manager wants a method to prevent something like this does not happen. If I use the Oracle database resources management, create a consumer group (called "DevEnv") at 40% CPU usage, what will happen if a user of DevEnv runs a bad SQL statement that normally consumes 90% CPU again? Anyone would take a different approach? Thank you.

Yes, because the available processor would be 40%, they use more, while.

Tried something out of the blue, that has worked.

I added the data_loading_user of the user to the group administrator (Group of BONES that created the wallet).

The I added the read permission to the group, so the permission on the files below were 640:

  • Page Editions of Oracle Database 11g: broken links?

    Hello

    On the page "* + Oracle Database 11 g editions + *".
    http://www.Oracle.com/us/products/database/product-editions-066501.html
Some of the links 'Read more' do not work or do not go at least where they shouldn't.
For example, 'read more' link "Flashback Table, database and the Transaction queries" goes to http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/index.html
Same thing for "Flashback Query", "Fail Safe"...
Whereas the link 'Total Recall' is a page-oriented.

    It could be fixed?

    Hi Nick,
Thanks for catching that - page Editions has now been updated and re-related.

SSH is not a technology allowing to connect to databases.

You will need to install an Oracle client on the Linux server, implemented a tnsnames.ora file that includes the necessary connection information for the database of Windows Server.

See the Linux 11 g Client install Guides here - http://www.oracle.com/pls/db111/portal.portal_db?selected=11&frame=

Then read through the 11 g Net Services (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/network.111/b28316/toc.htm) Administrator's Guide for an overview of connectivity.
