Lion in El Capitan

I have a 2010 iMac that runs on OS X Lion 10.7.5.  Can I pass safely lion in El Capitan?

'Security' is a relative term.

You can switch to OS X El Capitan? Yes.

Make a backup of your computer and all your important data first.

Backup ensures against anything that may or could go wrong with the upgrade.

If your iMac has only one minimum RAM (4 GB or less of memory long live), you may want to upgrade RAM, too.

El Capitan really needs, at least 8 GB of RAM.

Correct and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased online for Mac RAM memory Crucial (crucial.com) or OWC (macsales.com) sources.

Good luck!

I have a Mid 2011 Mac Mini with os x Lion as my main OS.  I had installed Windows 7 to be started using Boot Camp.  Everything worked perfectly until I added El Capitan under a new partition.   Now, as soon as the boot, there is no option of Boot Camp; There are only Lion and El Capitan options to begin.  However, BOOTCAMP and Win7 files/folders appear in the Finder.

After reading similar cases here in the support forums, it seems that this may be repairable.  (fingers crossed)  Oh, and FYI, I'm a total beginner when using in the Terminal environment.

  • I just upgraded from Lion to El Capitan. Impossible to update iphoto now. How to do?

I just upgraded from Lion to El capitan (face in RAW format with a new camera compatibility). iPhoto does not. A message says: not available for this material either under the name of another user or reimbursed. How is it possible with a MacBook pro reinstalled with iPhoto?

How to get this update? 5I'm very few qualified in the computer and not ready for the pictures). Thank you for the France.

This may be a long ball, because you are upgrading a Lion at El Capitan.

According to the version of iPhoto you had on Lion, you may be able to recover iPhoto.

And possible only if you iPhoto with your ID on your Macbook Apple.

  • Update of lion in El Capitan

I'm under lion 10.5.7 should I move to El Capitan?  I heard that people have problems after the update.

    Hello

    Lion is OS X v10.7 No 10.5.7. 10.5 has OS X Leopard.

Your Mac can use the El Capitan?

OS X El Capitan requires one of the following models, Mac and Mac OS X versions. It takes at least 2 GB of memory and 8.8 GB of storage space.

    • iMac (mid-2007 or newer)
    • MacBook (late 2008 aluminium, early 2009, or newer)
    • MacBook Pro (mid-2007 or newer)
    • MacBook Air (late 2008 or newer)
    • Mac mini (early 2009 or newer)
    • Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    • Xserve (early 2009)
    • V10.10 OS X Yosemite
    • V10.9 OS X Mavericks
    • OS X Lion mountain v10.8
    • OS X Lion v10.7
    • Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8

Not everyone has problems with update to El Capitan. I installed it when it was released without any problem.

El Capitan is free and available for download on the App Store.

Be sure to back up all your important data before upgrading.

  • Should I update to OS Lion in El Capitan?

I have an early 2011 Macbook Pro with 8 GB of RAM on OS X Lion 10.7.5.  I run Parallels 7 (for Quickbooks).  IF I update to El Capitan, I also update of Parallels.  I'm not really having problems using Lion with the exception of Safari, so I switched to Firefox.

Are there real benefits to upgrading to El Capitan?

    Thank you!

It depends on. What do you expect of the upgrade

If the best compatibility with the latest software expects then Yes

If compatible with older software is a wait, no..

You can always back up your system with Time Machine and upgrade and test it and make a decision later and if it does not you can restore the backup. to your current configuration.

You can go to depends on what your model is compatible with. You cannot install Mountain Lion, Mavericks, or Yosemite because they are no longer available.

    Upgrade to El Capitan

You can pass the Lion El Capitan or directly from Snow Leopard. El Capitan can be downloaded for FREE from the Mac App Store.

    Upgrade to El Capitan

To upgrade to El Capitan, you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or installed Lion. Download El Capitan from the App Store. Sign in with your Apple ID. El Capitan is free. The file is big enough, more than 5 GB, allow it some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

Mac that can be upgraded to OS X El Capitan

1 iMac (mid-2007 or newer) - model identifier 7.1 or later

2 MacBook (late 2008 or early 2009 or newer aluminium) - model identifier 5.1 or later

    3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)- model identifier 3.1 or later version

    Upgrade to Lion

If your computer does not meet the requirements to install the Mavericks, it can still meet the specifications to install Lion.

You can buy Lion to the Apple store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus taxes.  It's a download. You will receive an email with a redemption code that you then use on the Mac App Store for download Lion. Save a copy of this installer to your download folder because Setup deletes itself at the end of the installation.

    Lion system requirements

1 mac with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,

    or Xeon processor

    2. 2 GB of memory

    3 OS X 10.6.6 or later (10.6.8) recommended

    4. 7 GB of available space

    5. certain features require an Apple ID; conditions apply.

  • I keep El Capitan, but Food Lion of Time Machine on a new partition on HDD. Is this possible?

I run a Macbook Pro in 2011. I recently updated my OS from the Lion to El Capitan.

Unfortunately, a major program I need to use is not compatible with the new OS X 10.11.

Fortunately I made when I was still on 10.7, a time Machine backup before the update.

I think to partition my internal drive to keep El Capitan, but also restore Lion of my Time Machine backup on the new partition. This way I can continue to use the program, I need by starting the Lion of the second partition.

Is this feasible? If so, how can I restore Lion of Time Machine after partitioning my drive?

Thanks in advance. Any help is very appreciated.

Yes, but only if your computer can boot from a system of Lion. With regard to the full system restore using Time Machine: Please consult the FAQ of Time Machine of Pondini for help with Time Machine. It is a vast site with almost everything that you need for using Time Machine. You will not find a better resource for Time Machine in one place. Due to the disappearance of James Pondini is the site is no longer updated. Therefore, some information may be somewhat outdated.

  • Update of Mountain Lion with server at El Capitan with server

In my view, that it's time to upgrade my server Mountain Lion at El Capitan.  I am under some Web sites on the server (WordPress and ZenCart), and I'm managing e-mail for a few areas.  This is a hobby - so if I run into any kind of problems, then staring at me forever.

I use the server to manage several domains, some websites (wordpress and zencart) and e-mail for a few areas.  Is there someone who can asure me that an upgrade will not stop one of my sites/e-mail from accessible summer and that an upgrade is really simple:

    1) move to El Capitan on App Store

    (2) application Server purchase in App Store

    (3) open app Server

I don't think that a single SA will give you such insurance. There are simply too many unknowns in your equation.

A few questions that I would be:

    1. Where are your plans backup and restore?
    2. The backups have been verified? Have the hardware and other software were mapped for compatibility?
    3. Have you prepared for a recovery after disaster?
    4. What does your schedule look like?
    5. If your clients have been informed, and did you get their buy-in to the schedule planned downtime and one time the program installation or recovery?
    6. What your relief and the secondary standby solution look like?
    7. What makes it look like your hardware failure recovery plan as it is in place? More relevant would be your standby HD, on which I would clone the server for immediate system recovery.

These aren't all, but only a few pertinent questions.

Most SA engineers system will tell you that nothing is comparable to moments of sheer terror when they progress through the processes and procedures of a server upgrade, whether hardware or software. The latter is the worst, only comparable to the terror of a student pilot experienced on his first simulated emergency landing, frozen stiff out of pure terror on short final.

  • I've recently upgraded to El Capitan of Lion.  My iPhoto library is also transformed into Photos.  In iPhoto, I used Photoshop as my editor in Chief of "standard / default.  I can't do that to work with Photos, all I can't get is the photo editor.

I've recently updated to Lion at El Capitan and my library of more than 40 000 iPhoto was also improved (?) photo.  He ran all night.  I used Photoshop as my editor of "standard/default" in iPhoto, but now I can't seem to appear in the photo is the photo editor, which is not enough for my purposes.  I have found a workaround that requires images to export], edited and then re-imported to the Photos, but I lose all the original images.  Can I have Photoshop become my default editor for Photos, as if it was in iPhoto?

3rd party editing application must be updated to work with the new structure of the El Capitan and Photos before they will be able to work seamlessly with Photos.

In the meantime we must export the original file in the office using the menu option file ➙ export Original unmodified for 1 Photo and edit the file there.
