Load balancing across the NETWORK interface card

Hello

Our ESX Server's NIC six, two for SAN, one to the dedicated Service Console and three for the virtual computer LAN traffic. I noticed one thing look in the performance tab in VC, is that all LAN traffic seems to go on one of the three the NIC and the other two are practically inactive.

If I look at the network configuration for the vSwitch those with three cards network, grouping of NETWORK cards is set for 'road based on the original virtual port code '.

Can anyone advise how to get a more 'democratic' usage of the three NETWORK adapter?

As seen on http://www.eqlforums.com !

How many virtual machines you host? With the load balancing algorithm you have selected (default), traffic is balanced to the vNIC level (i.e. all traffic from a given vNIC always through the same bear). This is the case for all, but the IP hash algorithm, which requires you to 802.3ad static port aggregation on your pSwitch. In most cases, there is no need to worry about the use of bear - if it's a GbE NETWORK card, you're probably not close to push the limits.

    You are the very welcome.

You have the small factor form (SFF) or convertible minitower (CMT)?

Electrical supplies and the form factor of the audio and video cards must be flat with low profile brackets if you have a LTS. Power supply power is also less than a SFF in a CMT.

I have a dc7800 CMT. I installed a very nice video fanless AMD Radeon 6570 1 GB card in mine and I love it.

I have installed a sound card, but I guess you could do it.

I don't know how that everything affects the audio settings in the BIOS.

Most video cards are the HDMI audio chips on board, and those disable the integrated audio system. He must therefore go back into the BIOS and enable the onboard audio setting.

It's so everyone guess what happens when you add a new sound card. It neutralizes the again integrated audio system (which would be nice in this case), it neutralizes the HDMI audio (not a problem if you never Hang PC via an HDMI cable)?

In any case, if you want a sound card, you can get a card PCI or PCIe one that there is a PCIe location in the dc7800.

If you have a Mini PC, I would not recommend add both a video card and audio, because that can overload the 240W P/S.

Read the reviews to see what users say about it.  You should disable the network adapter before you install it.  There is a PCI slot and the PCI Express x 1 slot is faster.

Network configuration / routing / two network interface cards / NAT - leased / dedicated Dell R210 running VMware ESXi 5.1.0 build-799733

    Hello

I'm trying to understand how to configure a dedicated server of Dell R210 rented running VMware ESXi 5.1.0 build-799733

This dedicated server is rented www.online.net and sits somewhere in France. One of its network adapters have an IP public 62.210.177.20x. The other NIC is here, but I do not understand how it is configured. According to the www.online.net portal, the other NETWORK card has or should have an IP 10.90.116.20x. And I am obviously set up is to have some virtual machines running and be able to access the Internet. I have access to the console of the server Dell through iDRAC and since I could see, one of the network adapters in the IP is 62.210.177.20x defined, and the other has been shown out of service. I managed to make it appear the other interface but I cannot find anywhere how to assign the IP address 10.90.116.20x to this 2nd network adapter. But then again I don't even know if I should or if I need to assing a IP address to this 2nd network adapter. What is the cable connected even for this 2nd NIC? I do not know. Should it be - I'm not either. I don't know French and manuals/instructions on www.online.net are in French. I can try an online translator, but I don't think that what I'm looking for is explained. How do I get this set up? I have to do something about the ESXi on the server console? This interface 2nd should be in place, or it must be down as if it was originally? Yesterday after watching someone videos on YouTube, I added the second virtual switch and moved the virtual hosts of this switch 2 and he entrusted the 2nd NIC. But that 2nd NIC had a red X next to it probably indicating that it was disconnected the 2nd form virtual switch. Today and now I have managed to access the ESXi console server through iDRAC, I bring the 2nd NIC, and now both network adapters are assigned to the virtual switch 1st . But I think that a NIC should be attributed to a single switch and the other card NETWORK on the 2nd switch. I'm just a desktop guy with enough knowledge to be dangerous J if you / someone put in steps how and where to set them up it... PLEASE

    Thanks in advance

    Network configuration

    • VMware vSphere Hypervisor is an "operating system" for pure virtualization and support NAT or routing. Therefore, only a real bridge configuration can be used.
    • To use a subnet additional IP must be configured as a router VM.

If I understand the above, I need to show some VM and set up as a router? If the virtual machine that will act as a router must have two network interfaces, where it is connected to a switch and the other to the other switch network card. Am I do? The YouTube video that suggested, but I thought that maybe / somehow ESXi can route packets between the two network cards, but from what I read, ESXi can route packets. Do I need to order an additional / extra / 2nd IPv4 address so that it can be assigned to the interface of the router?

  • How many switches must be configured and min no network interface cards?

    Hello

    We will implement the ESXi5.0.

We would like to know if we use different ports for network management and vMotion groups?  It seems that two of them use the same (different from ESX 4) IP address.

In addition, my supervisor would like to know what is the minimum number of network interface cards to use (because the server has no slot PCIe)?

    Your opinion is requested.

    Thank you

Since we implement VLANS on our site and based on the documentation, ESXi 5 gets only 1 battery IP, wonder what is the best way to cope.

It is true that ESXi has that one battery IP, which is very good compared to the other two in ESX (Linux in the Service Console and the Vmkernel). However, we have only an IP stack means that it is the same driver tcp/ip, but does not mean that we cannot have multiple IP addresses.

For example, you can create a Vmkernel how many interfaces you want and assign different IP addresses, which could be on the same network or on different.

Even if you don't have a VLAN in your environment I would still recommend using another IP network for vMotion for your management. This will make the two a little more 'best practice', easier to different and you would be good too preperred if you implement VLANs in the future.

  • Disable the network interface on a virtual machine

    Hello all-

Is there a way to disable the network interface on the network adapter in the virtual machine?  We have a group of applications who want to simulate a network in collaboration with MSCS failure - I don't necessarily agree with the fact that this type of test, but try to determine if this is possible from the functional point of view.

Our ESX host have networks of virtual machine set up off the coast of 4 port nic mezzanine card, and I don't want to touch the VM network vswitch as any part of this test.

Thanks for any help you can provide-

Is there a way to disable the network interface on the network adapter in the virtual machine?

Yes, in the virtual machine settings, for each NIC assigned to the virtual machine you will find a checkbox 'connected '. Unchecking it's like pulling the network cable.

Greetings. vmrun seems to be able to do a lot of things on a virtual machine, but one of them is not to change the parameters of the network interface. Am I missing something? Is there a different CLI that allows me to do this?

writeVariable and readVariable vmrun can be used to edit the VMX settings. Use the runtimeConfig parameter, and then name value pair. Not kept in the VMX file, but replaces the values stored there. Not to a Linux machine and could not test but should work if the value is stored in VMX.

  • Load balancer and the consolidation of NETWORK cards

    Hello

We recently had to our file VMware Server after a bit nasty failure of his original material.  Since we moved, it mostly worked OK, but we don't get the occational network shares paw when large files are thrown on.

ESXi host, sure it works use 5Gbit ethernet adapters on the same Virtual Switch.  Looking at the traffic it would seem that all traffic flows in just a single NETWORK adapter and it is not much at all through the others.  Is something that I need to set it up so that it can better load balance between network cards?  Or is it a document anywhere who recommended settings for multiple network cards?

I found a vDS topic but we have not undertaken more liciencing on most of our servers.

We run VSphere 4.1 via the Vcentre server.

    Thanks for the help.

    faster4233 wrote:

What you say makes a little more sense on what I see.  There is very little traffic flowing through other NETWORK cards, but is perhaps because there isn't any real traffic goes to them.  I thought that VMware may use multiple NICs, if it was required that is why I thought I'd see more data on the other.

Curiosity is anyway that I can combine NICs for more flow using VMware?

The load balancing, you can achieve with VMware is not a "real" load balancing, this is more a static distribution of traffic in accordance with the policy, you have chosen.

You use means that according to the virtual switch port ID the vNIC to the host is connected to a specific bear is chosen. This unique vNIC traffic will use this bear as long as this bear does not fail. In this case the guests more with vNIC, you have the better are used Teddy.

Other policies can be better for other scenarios. For example, 'Hash IP' uses the source IP address and target to choose a teddy bear. It is a good policy for a server with a vNIC single file and many different communication partners. The 'Source Port' policy route all traffic through a teddy bear so that 'Hash IP' policy would use many Teddy as not what ID port is used, but the communications partners. And a file server must have many of them, more than it has of vNIC.

    Best regards, Hendrik

Disabling protocols spanning-tree on the Procurve ports connected to the ESX host is going to promote a recovery more rapid port. Similarly, running global spanning tree is not recommended if you mix some VLAN iSCSI and data in the same fabric (i.. e. you do not want a STP process to hang storage IO). Spanning tree on your switches, look PVST (or Procurve BPMH) to isolate the STP VLANs unique events.

In regard to the load balancing is, by default (route based port ID) value algorithm requires less overhead on the ESX hosts.  You may not use LACP on the Provurve the lack of facilities LACP ESX. You must use "route based on the IP hash" sideways ESX and 'static trunks' on the side of Procurve. Unless you have specific reasons why your network need loads this configuration, I'd caution against it for the following reasons:

    (1) IP hash requires thorough inspection of packages by the ESX host, increasing CPU load as load package increases;

    (2) the static configuration puts switch physics rigid and critical ESX host port mapping. Similarly, groups of ports all will fail as the Procurve batteries for management only and won't be on switches 802.3ad circuits Group (i.e. all ports of a group of circuits must be linked to a single switch) - this isn't a limitation of the port ID routing;

    (3) K.I.S.S. love port ID mix of port ID, beacon probe and failover on the port assignments you will get segregation of the raw traffic without sacrificing redundancy - even through switches.

    I hope this helps!

    Hello

    WiFi or LAN connection works?
Well you are sure that your modem or router WLan is configured correctly?
    You should check this first!

If you are 101% sure that this router works and has been configured correctly, then you should check the configuration of the firewall on your laptop.
Check to see if any other software that is installed on your laptop does not have the laptop to connect to the router.

Then the card Wlan and lan card REGULARITY in Device Manager.
Reinstall the driver Wlan and LAN driver if the two cards are not recognized correctly

  • Load balancing between the queues of Tuxedo

    Hello

I have the following situation where my tuxedo is running on two machines, and on each one, I have a queuespace and a specific queue called TQ1. My question is: if I turn the LDBAL configuration and, on my Services section of the ubbconfig, I put two TQ1 entries, one for each group, Tuxedo perform balancing between the two groups/queuespaces the same as it would with a normal service?

I have this doubt because on the tpenqueue method call, one of the parameters is the name of queuespace. Seeing that my queuespaces have different names, including that of the queuespaces which was to inform? Or should I rename the two Queuespaces to the same name?

Also, on the dequeue Tuxedo could as the two queuespace to make the dequeue?

    Thanks in advance,

    brunno Attorre

    Hi Brunno,

TMQUEUE announces a service which is the name of the queuespace, not the default queue.  Thus, when tpenqueue() and tpdequeue() do their work, they apply to a service with the name of the queuespace.  As the tuxedo does not know that these service names are associated with the queue space, it will load applications of balance to several TMQUEUE servers that advertise the same name of queuespace.  In fact, for scalability purposes, you can configure several servers TMQUEUE running on the same queuespace if they are on the same machine that they will share the shared memory section associated with the queuespace.  If this is done on different machines, the queuespaces must be different, even if they have the same name.  Access to specific queues will be undefined, which means that if you msg enqueue and then try to specifically dequeue msg has, you might get an error because msg has maybe gone to a queuespace, and dequeue request went to the other.

We are working on improvements to the queue Message of Tuxedo (an offering message improved to Tuxedo queues) to make something like this work in a more transparent manner, i.e. the dequeue to msg that one would work regardless of machine/TMQUEUE server process requests.
