Local host for VMware Infrastructure Client permissions

We normally use vcenter 2.5 and ESX 3.5. Our user permissions are set on vcenter, using Active Directory.

However when vcenter is out of service, we can connect locally to each esx host using the VMware Infrastructure client. Logging as root works very well. However, we have several local nonroot accounts defined on the ESX host.

How can we give users permission to open a session? We want to be administrators on the graphical interface, but does not give the root password.

As root, you will need to identify yourself with the VI Client and assign permissions to non-root users to access environment - but caution that you do not have the granularity of permissions, as you do with VC and if these hosts are managed by CR you do not want to make changes to them directly as this may affest DRS and HA-

  • Which TCP port is used for VMWare Infrastructure Client?

Hello, my ESXi server sits on the private network, and I'm trying to PAT so that I can access the external network using VMWare Infrastructure Client Server. Does anyone know what port is VMWare Infrastructure Client listen? Thank you.

    Priscilla

Do the external network for VMware NAT

I guess you mean that your server is located in the internal network and Client is on the outside.

If the customer does not have to "listen" for connections it opens TCP ports - HI 1024-65535 to servers as follows.

Servers (including GSX) TCP ports: 8222, 8333, 902

If you have ESX (i) then TCP ports: 80, 443, 902

Currently, I run VMware Infrastructure Client in a virtual machine on my Mac, or use to connect to a computer where the client is installed. It would be nice to have a Mac-native of the Infrastructure Client version. Are there plans to make benefit the VMware Infrastructure Client Mac OS X?

  • Fatal error VMware Infrastructure Client

    Hello.

I use vSphere Client (version 4.1.0 build 258902) and vCenter Server (version 4.0.0 build 208111) with an IBM BladeCenter.  I am trying to download files on a satastore, but just as he begins to transfer I get this error and closes the client:

VMware Infrastructure Client fatal error: (app-4048) <-this number changes every time, it's never the same

Exception 0 x 80000003 (debug break point) has occurred.

A core file is available in "C:\users\Dave\AppData\Roaming\VMware\vpxclient-3784.dmp".  Please

ask for support and include the content of the core file.

To collect the data to submit to the VMware support, run 'vm-support.

We will respond on the basis of your entitlement to support.

I get this error, regardless of the OS (tried Windows XP and 7), logged-in user or data store used (we have about 8).  Fails also on local storage for the blade so it can not be anything to do with the fiber storage attached.

Anyone hit this problem before and have a solution?

    Thank you very much

    Dave

If you use vCenter 4.0 I advise to use the same version for vSphere client because there has been some problems with the customer for 4.1 when used with mixed versions of ESX

  • Questions of VMware Infrastructure Client License

I have a few questions about lincesnese EXS3.5 and VMIC

I downloaded the vmware infrastructure client to manage it and gives me the following on the VirtualCenter server warning.

I see the following on top of VMIC software

    localhost.localdomain ESXserver3.5.0...: "assessment 5 days remaining.

Also, it appears an aboutVirtual Center Server warning

Is ESX3.5i my unregistered server or my client infrastructure?

I was under the impression that VMIC and ESX3.5i are free tools?

    Is it not the case?

Also, what is the relationship between the server, VirtualCenter and ESX3.5i and VMIC?

If someone can point to explanations on this, it will be a great help.

And don't somefeatures disappear after assessment?

    Thanks in advance

Your ESX3.5i server is not functional in eval mode. It is a free product, but you must obtain and enter a license key. You should have received this once you download the software from vmware.

I was under the impression that VMIC and ESX3.5i are free tools?

    They are both.

    Is it not the case?

Yes they are free, but you must enter the free license key that you received from vmware. It has been some time, I do not remember if I have received me by e-mail or on the download page.

Also, what is the relationship between the server, VirtualCenter and ESX3.5i and VMIC?

vCenter (VirtualCenter server) is the management server can manage multiple ESX/ESXi hosts at once. It also provides some additional features, such as vmotion, integration with active directory, etc. - it is not free

ESX3.5I is one of the hypervisor servers based that you run your virtual machines on - it's free, but you need to get your free license key.

VMIC is the client software that you use to connect to vCenter or ESX/ESXi host to manage your virtual environment, including the ESXi host. -free and can be downloaded for the guests, once installed ESX.

If someone can point to explanations on this, it will be a great help.

And don't somefeatures disappear after assessment?

    Yes.

  • VMware Infrastructure Client hanging

    Hi guys,.

IM new to the world of VMware sorry, I have a server ESX 3.5.0 Build 82663 on a Dell Poweredge 2950 Server VMware Infrastructure Client 2.5.0 build 84767 on a Dell Insperon running Windows 7 workstation, the question I have is that the VIC has recently started to hang when I try to shoot to the top of the list of the VM on the ESX Server machines. The only way I found to fix it is to reboot physically the ESX Server and then I can reconnect the VIC and get the list and start all the VM images on it, but sometimes it will freeze just when starting a picture and if I click on the power on option, once again, I get a message indicating that you cannot start a power on operation when it is being , and then I'm back to square one where the VIC is frozen again.

Is it possible to restart the game VIC in the ESX box without having to restart the ESX Server?

    Thanks in advance

    Werner

How much memory you have configured for the service console? Perhaps, if this isn't there, set up to 800MB.  In addition, confirmed the same behavior by launching the VIC from another post of work?

  • Possible to download only the VMware Infrastructure Client?

I am a student, our University has a vmware server we can connect using what, in my view, is called the "VMware Infrastructure Client" of our school computer lab and I was told that you can also download the same client to connect from our own pc at home. (We use a VPN). I've been looking around this site, and no where do not see just a simple download for only Vmware Infrastructure Client, I think that's what I use to connect to the server, our school has running vmware. I tried a few free vmware download from this site, and they seem to be 600 MB + packages with many, many zipped files, not just a simple client that I'm looking for.

Can someone tell me if there is a way to download a customer of VMware infrastrue, UPS said, and if that sounds right, then I could use to connect to a server on a network running vmware.

Basically, I have the IP of our server of schools and a user name and password I use to connect to it, but I need to find and install the vmware client to connect to it.

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Use a web browser and open https://schools-vmware-server-ip and you should be able to download the client here.

    Good luck!

  • not getting does not clone/update with VMware Infrastructure client option

Hi we have an esx3.5 with VIM 2.5

to authorize the server through a host file, that we had to create a virtual machine on the esx server and install VIM 2.5 above, pointing licensing to the ip address of this server. This vm is winXP so everything works fine.

When we try to connect to the ip address of the winVista esx server, we get a Manager, without options - clone/updates

Therefore, in order to make any kind of cloning or updates remotely of machines WinVista you must:

create a VPN connection on the site with the esx server,

Connect to the ip address of the esx server,

    Open the VMware Infrastructure client,

    opening of session

Open the console of the computer that has installed VIM 2.5

and perform a cloning from inside the virtual Windows XP machine

as you can see it's pretty heavy. is there another way?

    Thank you!

Because if I understand your message, you don't see the "Clone/Update" option in the menu when you connect thru customer VI ESX Server. Yes, this isn't. ESX does not provide the functionality without VirtualCenter. Then, must use VirtualCenter, address IP/Hostname in the VI Client to accomplished these tasks.

  • Update 3 for vmware Infrastructure 3 is a comprehensive update?

Is update 3 for vmware Infrastructure 3, a comprehensive update or should I install the update 1 and day 2 first?

I believe that if you apply the update 3 with the Update Manager and then rescan with your baseline, you will see fewer missing updates.  It should take care of all update 1 and day 2 patches.  If you want to apply update 3 make sure to run all of the patches that have been released since then as well, there are a few recent bugfixes of update 3.

If all goes well with this number of hosts you can eliminate the time instead of reduce, if you have the DRS in fully automatic mode when you use the Manager to update to migrate the guests off the coast to other hosts for you while patch.

  • VMWare Infrastructure Client Login - password

I have to connect to the VMWare Infrastructure Client by using domain administrator credentials.  Recently, I changed the password of admin area, but I can connect in CIV with the old and the new password?  Y at - it a cache of passwords somewhere that would need to be deleted?  The VIC is not integrated with Active Directory?

Do you chamge the local administrator on the VC server password? I think that's where it comes from.

If you find or any other response usefule please consider giving points by checking the correct or helpful answer

  • Host for vmware integration tools

where can I download the host for Vmware integration tools?

the support site are not providing the relevant download

    https://eqlsupport.Dell.com/support/download.aspx?ID=3199

Klick on VMware integration or eqlsupport.dell.com/.../download.aspx

Its a set of programs. Most likely, you are looking for the MEM (Module of Extension Multipath) and VSM (Virtual Storage Manager), formerly known as the ASM/VE. The last is the "plugin" for the connection between your group EQL and vSphere vCenter. His only usable in the 'new' WebClient vSphere and not for the old c# one.

  • VMware Infrastructure Client Gets an error when you try to connect to "localhost".

Until a few days ago everything was fine, we have created a virtual machine, installed a vm client infrastructure, and used to manage the esx 3.5 Server

in some way the connection to the server was interrupted, we rebooted the client infrastructure and tried to connect to 'localhost', got the following error: Vmware infrastructure Client could not connect inintial with the server 'localhost '.

interesting part is that the client connects fine when we connect to the server ip: 192.xxx.xxx.xxx

However, when we replace the IP by 'localhost', we get the error: Vmware infrastructure Client could not connect inintial with the server 'localhost '.

tried rebooting the machine, always not the same error

    any ideas?

before we connected to localhost and had a capacity to use plugins as well as manage other servers

Ah, now I see.  is vCenter service running?  Try to restart the service.  I think that the vCenter service has a problem, it is important connect directly to ESX server instead of using virtual center.

  • State of the listed material unknown state via API, not so much using VMware Infrastructure Client

Anyone know if it is a result of ESXi vs say Foundation, company, etc.?  Querying the State of the material using the perl Toolbox storage devices returned the status of "unknown".  While the use of the Windows infrastructure client under 'configuration' then 'State of health', storage devices are listed as with the lights green and 'Normal '.

    through perl toolkit, for example:

    print join ("\t", $host - & gt; name, $hba - & gt; device, $hba - & gt; key, $hba - & gt; model, $hba - & gt; status, $hba - & gt; pilot, $hba - & gt; bus). "\t";

    foo.com vmhba32 key - vim.host.ParallelScsiHba - 4 port SATA IDE Controller (ICH9) vmhba32 unknown ata_piix 0

To obtain the status of storage devices, as seen in VI Client, you must watch HostStorageElementInfo API. This API gives the State of operation of the various components of storage. To access data from this API, you need to drill down to the next of the object "HostSystem: property

    runtime.healthSystemRuntime.hardwareStatusInfo.storageStatusInfo

This will give the HostStorageElementInfo table and held the State values, as seen in the VI client.

    Hope this information is useful.

  • VMware infrastructure client poster localhost.localdomain

    Hello

When I connect to my esx server using vmware customer infrastrucuture I see "localhost" in the client rather than list the name of the vmware server

any idea on how to solve this problem?

I changed the file/etc/hosts on vmware esx server to indiciate the host name, but it still shows localhost.localdomain in client infrastructure

When I SSH on the esx server, the shell prompt gives the correct host name

    Thank you.

Please try now on the esx console and see if the IP address change is reflected

    service mgmt-vmware restart

    service vmware-vpxa restart

And then log in the VIClient to see if the changes have taken place.

  • For Vmware Infrastructure details DropDown is EMPTY

I'm a newbie in the converter and I'm doing a P2V using Converter 5.0 running on a Windows 7 computer where I am using VMware Workstation 7.  The source is a physical machine running Ubuntu 11.10.

I spent an initial problem regarding root privileges using sudo in config xml files the agent and the worker.  When I get to the next screen, I expect to be able to use the drop-down list to select VMware Workstation Vmware infrastructure (see screenshot).  The problem is that there are NO options to choose from.  When I click on the drop down arrow, nothing happens.

I did research in the community and on Google but could not find something to help.

Everyone knows this?  Can you please help?  Thank you.
