Location Exadata machine in a data center

Hello
Oracle is recommended to keep a free space of 90 cm behind the machine.
Unfortunately, we have only 60 cm of free space behind the machine.
Questions: The 90 per cent is mandatory? There will be problem to get out of the exadata machine a server problems?
Thank you

With this amount of space, you can barely open the door in the back, so it could be problematic. In addition, the air flow will from before backward, so you will have less room for hot air dissipates in the back. How much space you have in the front of the machine? The owner's manual says you need 152 cm at the front. This is essential, because the servers out front. If you have enough space in front of the machine, you can always move the grid to the front to give ample space in the back.

  • Orchestrator 5.1 REPORT-all the virtual machines in the data center and create a CSV file

    Hello

    What I basically want to do is create a report CSV of all virtual machines in the data center with various information (VMname, domain name FULL, IPaddress, status, data warehouses, tools etc...).  The export list in the client feature is insufficient (especially for any KPI report).

    Problem: (workflow is still under construction so real email send does not not and need to clean the code)

    I am stuck at the part of the creation of a table that can be parsed correctly in the CSV file.  2 ways I've tried will produce a report of single object or combine all of the table into a single string (where I am now).  I think the main problem I have is that I have to create a 2D within my service to push toward the final table that is written to the CSV format.  Basically, I do not understand how to push my variables in a loop of a table.

    Any help or assistance?

    Thank you

  • Migrating from a virtual computer between two numbers of data center

    Hello!

    I just finished a muddy migration of a virtual machine from one data center to another.

    VMotion was not possible, so do not manually move the files was the only option.

    After downloading and uploading files to separate data warehouses, I have now a running virtual machine with the file to a folder named "TSV-forum", hard and the .vmx file and the working of a folder named "TSV-forum_2" directory

    The reason is that I downloaded the files to a new folder on the new data store named "TSV-forum", and when I created the new virtual machine and set the option to file on hard drive to use the vmx downloaded from the new 'TSV-forum' folder file, it automatically creates the "TSV-forum_2" folder and put the rest of the files for the new virtual machine in this folder.

    How to solve this problem?

    I should, perhaps, created the virtual machine in a different way, in the first place.

    How?

    Hello

    Connection via vSphere Client on the Vcenter server and

    Right-click on this particular VM-> go to change settings of-> click on hard disk and check the DiskFile tab (where is the VMDK file located on what data store)

    After that who go to the inventory-> warehouses of data, find the data for this particular VM store, right click and click Browse data store.

    you will find a folder with your VM file, click the folder where your file VMDK is located in the upper tab

    Find the underside of wink

    After clicking Move he will ask confirmation Move

    After you click YES the move items tab will appear

    Click on the data store, then select the Destination folder where you want or create a new folder for this particular VM with naming and click on move.

  • Virtual machines by operating system in data center

    Hello people,

    I'm trying to write a script that totals VMs in a datacenter by operating system. Here's what I have so far:

    Get-vm-location (get-data center-name "DC1"). %{

    $totals [$_] ExtensionData.Config.guestFullName] ++

    }

    $totals

    This works for the DC1 datacenter, but what do I do if I want to collect totals for all data in my vCenter centers? I would also like to export the data to html format, so that it can be read as a report in a browser.

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Rob

    You could do something like that to get a report for each datacenter

    foreach($dc in Get-Datacenter){
      Get-VM -Location $dc |
      Group-Object -Property {$_.ExtensionData.Config.guestFullName} | %{
        Select -InputObject $_ -Property @{N="Datacenter";E={$dc.Name}},Name,@{N="Count";E={$_.Group | Measure-Object | Select -ExpandProperty Count}}
      }
    }

  • FabricPath or OTV between two data center using Direct fiber cable

    Hello

    I have two data center both of them has the same equipment N7k, N5k and N2k, and we want the dataCenter being active/active, I'm really confused to use OTV or FabricPath characteristic, if someone can help me with my scenario and explain to me what is the best solution and advantage and disadvantage between OTV and PabrcPath.

    Many thanks in advance

    Hi Steven,

    No problem, I'll go through your points as completely as possible. I advise you to read more about these protocols, maybe if you have access to INE or similar, see their videos on this. I would also like to say again that I have not seen all documentation Cisco indicating that FabricPath to be used as a DCI.

    With regard to the way fabric you ask what follows...

     1. only can use it between two datacenters of you have more we can't, please correct me?

    No, you can use the path of fabric with more than two data centers, but even with OTV, you can use it with more than two data centers.

     2. HSRP localization can not be implemented as OTV. However You can have two differnet Gateways at the Data Center 1 and 2 using two different HSRP groups. If server is moved dynamically from, (i didn't understand this point can you please explain with example?

    OK, so this is a GREAT topic. Location of HSRP CAN be implemented with OTV, but cannot be implemented with fabric path. First hop redundancy protocols can be localized and is supported by Cisco with OTV, this basically allows the same default gateway to reside in two of your data centers providing the ACTIVE/ACTIVE configuration. So no matter where your VM is, they did not change their default, even if gateway your servers to move to the other datacenter.

    If we didn't have this, we would have only an active member of HSRP divided between DC and things would be extremely troublesome in regard to traffic flows. A virtual machine in DC2 VLAN needs to talk to host in VLAN B. But the default gateway is completely in DC1. So frame is sent to the ICD in DC1, then the gateway by default, routes packets VLAN B. This VLAN B lies in fact in DC2, so now it has to go all the way back to DC2. You get my point...? :)

    With localization happen only local to the domain controller. If all servers / VMS in the domain controller can speak locally to its "own" default gateway.

     3. unknown unicast flooding (can you give me an example?)

    Unknown unicast traffic is unicast packets/images with unknown destination mac address. By default, switches are flooding this type of traffic to all ports in the VLAN. With path of fabric that would take place during your DCI, but with OTV, it is all taken care locally, so massive savings on bandwidth here and it is much more effective.

     4. ARP optimization between Data Center (can you give an example regarding ARP optimization?)

    There is another function of OTV, which makes it far superior on the way of tissue. Essentially, we are reducing the volume of traffic passing through the transport infrastructure (i.e. ICD)

    When ARP, host in DC1 to host that responds in DC2, we use links and there is travel time of package that might be minimal, but is not the most optimal. OTV AED - or edge device spy ARP response and subsequently knows that this mapping exists from there. ARP takes place after the first Protocol, the EDA almost proxy ARP to DC1 so the ARP request locally does not have to travel to DC2.

     5. Typically two flows (Odd VLANs by OTV-VDC-1 and even vlans by OTV-VDC-2) carry the entire layer 2 traffic flow between the two Data Centes. Hence the load balancing the links is not efficient. ( (can you explain compare with FabricPath if you have example?)

    IMHO, it's bad and good. Balance the workload of the OTV if you have more than an AED on site. VLAN strange appointment via an AED, even numbered VLAN go through the other. Depending on traffic on VLANs, this could become unbalanced. Fabric used by all its links to mac addresses 'route' to the respective SID - ID switch she needs to do. So perhaps a better uniformity of split here.

     6. VLAN scalability for OTV is lower than FabricPath as of this content writing. (can you explain what this mean i didn't understand it)

    I completely disagree with this comment. I too do not understand.

     7. Resiliency of FabricPath network is better than OTV in some failure scenarios.(can me an example ?)

    I also disagree with that. Resilience of path of fabric could be same as OTV or perhaps better. However, my personal experience is that OTV fine tuning with things like BFD failover is much faster!

    Fabric is good because the control of aircraft ISIS and its operation is admirable, but could say the same for the OTV.

    Lets say one of the DCI links had to die, the transmission of the tissue path would continue through the other links, then perhaps for low latency, high frequency, environments that would be beneficial. OTV will change the EDA and re - learn mac, announced by other AEDS, addresses, but as I said, the time could be extremely minimal and tuning. This isn't a big deal, unless you need under second time convergence!

    I hope that I have answered your questions, I recommend use for your DCI OTV, use the path of fabric for your inside of local switching in your DC. This has been implemented repeatedly and the links I sent you the models validated Cisco also point out.

    Remember - fabric has been built to be a step towards TRILL, and replacement of protocols spanning-tree, OTV was built especially for the dci. They are both built and examples of specific design. It makes no sense to get these confused or mixed up, unless there is a real and pressing the case.

    Joel conclusion is right, use the right tools for the job. If the use case is good for the FP then OK, if not, OTV.

  • Migrate to the new data center

    Hi all

    I want to migrate to a display of a new data center environment in a different physical location.

    I like to keep the original ip addresses and FQDNs.

    Is it best practice for this type of migration methods?

    I have two drivers, composer, brokers security server, 160 related clones with persistent records.

    We do not have a connection in fiber between the sites, so cannot perform a rebalancing.

    There will be a cut-over on the last weekend.

    Concerning

    John

    You can use something like veeam vSphere replication to copy virtual machines to the other site and then just turn the 'old' off the coast and the new ones on. Your biggest problem will be changing hosts. Only other option might be to physically move the old hardware to the new site. Persistent drives will be a pain. I would like to have more useful for you answers.

  • Virtual MACHINE created on date export csv - get - vm testvm works but says testvm get-vmcreationdate is not found.

    Hello

    I entered the following two functions in my shell powercli

    Two functions I have installed

    function {Get-VMEvents

    < #.

    . Logbook

    Get events for an entity or query all events.

    . Description

    This function returns the events for the entities. It is very similar to

    cmdlet Get-vievent. Please note that get-VMEvent can handle 1 vm at a time.

    You can't send picture of vms in this version of the script.

    . Example of

    Get-VMEvents 0All-types "VmCreatedEvent", "VmDeployedEvent", "VmClonedEvent".

    He will receive all events of type "VmCreatedEvent", "VmDeployedEvent"

    'VmClonedEvent '.

    . Example of

    Get-VMEvents-name 'vm1' - type 'VmCreatedEvent '.

    Will be out of the events of creation of virtual machine: "vm1. It's faster than the vms piping is of

    result of Get - vm. There is no need to use get - vm to move names to get-vmevents.

    Yet, it is OK when you do, it will be just a little more slow < span class = "wp-smiley wp-emoji wp-emoji-blink of eye" title = ';') > ;) </span >

    . Example of

    Get-VMEvents-name 'vm1' - category 'WARNING '.

    Will be out all events for vm: 'vm1. It is is faster than the names of piping of

    cmdlet Get - vm. Category will get-vmevent to search only the defined category

    events.

    . Example of

    Get - vm "vm1 | Get-VMEvents-types "VmCreatedEvent", "VmMacAssignedEvent".

    Shows events for vm1 which will be regarding the events of creation,.

    and events when when / what mac address is assigned

    . VM parameter

    This setting is a unique string that represents the name of the vm. He expects this single vm name

    There in the virtual Center. Now in the first version of the script, it will only load a case

    where there is 1 instance of vm selected name. In the future it will load multiple as

    Well.

    . Types of parameters

    If none is specified, it will return all the events. If specified will return

    Only the events with selected types. For example: "VmCreatedEvent."

    "VmDeployedEvent", "VmMacAssignedEvent" "VmClonedEvent", etc...

    . Category of a parameter

    Possible categories are: warning, info, error. Please use this setting if you

    you want to filter events.

    . Setting all the

    If you need to set this parameter, so command queries all events

    . Logbook

    Gets if possible virtual machine created.

    . Description

    This function will return the object with information about the creation time, method, of months,.

    creator of particular virtual machine.

    VMname: SomeVM12

    Createduserid: 10/08/2012 11:48:18

    CreatedMonth: August

    CreationMethod: cloned

    Creator: office\greg

    This function displays NoEvent property in case when your VC do not

    more information on these specific events, or your vm events no longer have

    entries for the subject being created. If your VC data base has more tension date it is no longer possible

    you find this event.

    . Example of

    This will return items that contain date information of creating virtual machines with names

    myvm1 and myvm2

    . Example of

    This will return items that contain information created for virtual machines that are

    located in the data center "mydc" container If you use this feature in an existing loop where you

    having the cmdlet get-view virtual machines, you can pass them via pipes or as a parameter VMnames.

    . Example of

    $report = get-cluster "cl-01' | Get-VMCreationdate

    $report | Export-csv c:\myreport.csv

    Stores all reported creationtimes object in the array $report variable and export the report to a csv file.

    You can also filter the report before you write in the csv file using select

    $report | Where-Object {$_.} {CreatedMonth - eq "October"} | Select VMName, CreatedMonth

    So that you see only the vms that have been created in October.

    . Example of

    Get-vmcreationdate - VMnames "my_vm1", testvm55

    WARNING: my_vm1 is not found, typo?

    VMname: testvm55

    Createduserid: 05/10/2012 14:24:03

    CreatedMonth: October

    CreationMethod: NewVM

    Creator: home\greg

    In case when you receive virtual machine that is not appropriate in the infrastructure of yor, a warning is displayed.

    You can always store the full text of the report in the $report variable, but it includes all the information on

    dates of creation of the missing vm. A warning always only for your information there is

    probably a typing mistake in the name of the virtual machine.

    . Parameter VMnames

    This parameter must contain objects of virtual machine or strings representing vm

    names. It is possible to supply this function wiith VM objects coming from get - vm or

    You can check if there are targeted with the cmdlet Get-VIEvent ordinary events.

    If you can see events, there could be a problem with the Get-VMEvents function.

    $vmName = 'testvm '.

    I'm trying to get a script that will give me the whole total amount of space used in a data center. I want to launch against the center of data from virtual centres. There is a total of approximately 1900 of virtual machines and virtual machine is distributed among several LUNS. I need to get the overall figure for a migration.

    PS: I want to get the numbers in GB instead of megabytes and I also want it spits out a report in .csv on my local machine (c:\scripts\xxxx.csv)

    Thank you guys.

    I'm afraid that it won't work by changing just the data center-Get Get-cluster.

    The reason is the cmdlet Get-data store later in the script, on the location setting it only accepts the data center objects, folder and DatastoreCluster.

    But with a little small change, we can get it to work for clusters as well.

    Get-Cluster | Select Name,@{N="Storage Used (GB)";E={  $sum = Get-Datastore -RelatedObject (Get-VMHost -Location $_) |   where {$_.ExtensionData.Summary.MultipleHostAccess -and $_.Type -eq "VMFS"} |  Measure-Object -Property CapacityGB,FreeSpaceGB -Sum  [Math]::Round($sum[0].Sum - $sum[1].Sum,2)}} |Export-Csv c:\scrpits\xxxxx.csv -NoTypeInformation -UseCulture

  • Migration cold vcenter server VM to another logical data center

    My version is 5.0

    I have a vCenter with multiple logical datacenters.

    I'm under vCenter on a virtual machine on a host in a datacenter.  The SQL Server with the vCenter database is on the same host.

    I need to move the two virtual machines to a different host in another data center.

    All LUNS are accessible from both hosts.

    I'm under standard vSwitches, not distributed.   The vSwitches on each host have exact same exchanges that are put in place.

    Can I migrate successfully cold other guests off the power, remove them from the inventory, save them with a new host and power back on.

    However I'm not sure how to migrate the vCenter cold and SQL VMs.

    My first thought was to turn off the power, connect the viClient directly to the guests in question and delete them from the inventory on the current host and save them to the new host.

    What I don't know is if the vCenter database will have a problem with the location of the machine since I do change out vCenter.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you

    Welcome to the community - you thought initial is correct since migrate is a function of vcenter but Word of warning make sure that you select Remove flexible financing inventory and not delete from the disk - remove inventory will remove form VM guests of stocks without deleting the VM disk shape.

    There will be no problem with access to the database-

  • VM to data center report

    Hello

    I tried to write what I thought would be a simple report, but I have problems with the release of data in the report. Here is my script:

    $report = @)

    {foreach ($dc in Get-Data Center)

    {foreach ($vm in Get - VM)

    $row = "" | Select datacenter, vm

    $row.datacenter = $dc. Name

    $row.vm = $vm. Name

    $report += $row

    }

    }

    $report

    My problems is that when I run the report, the data center may or may not be on the line with the virtual machine. In other words, the data center listed may not be declared with precision with the VM in the same line. Anyone can point out what I am doing wrong or another way to tackle the virtual machine to the datacenter report?

    TIA,

    You should limit your VM - Get only to the data center.

    Like this for example

    $report = @)

    {foreach ($dc in Get-Data Center)

    foreach ($vm in (Get-VM-location $dc)) {}

    $row = "" | Select datacenter, vm

    $row.datacenter = $dc. Name

    $row.vm = $vm. Name

    $report += $row

    }

    }

    $report

  • move VMS to production site in new data center

    What would be the best way to move virtual machines on our production site to a data center located at some distance from there?   I thought about how to connect to a new host in the data center at our production site and then use converter to import into the host.  The distance would be a problem?   It is about 50 miles away.

    With vmx and vmdk files, you should be fine. But just copy the entire VM folder.

    Oh, and FastSCP is a free tool.

  • Custom field data center-VM

    The difficulty to fill the property column in the report.

    Here is my code:

    $report = @)

    $csvfile = "D:\Get_DC_Perms.csv".

    $datacenters = get-data center | name sort

    ForEach ($datacenter to $datacenters)

    {

    $vms = get-vm -location $datacenter

    ForEach ($vm to $vms)

    {

    $ReportObj = "" | Select 'Data center', 'Virtual Machine', 'Property DL'

    $ReportObj. "' Data center ' = $datacenter.name

    $ReportObj. "' Virtual Machine ' = $vm.name

    $ReportObj. "' Property DL ' = {$vm. CustomFields}}

    $Report += $ReportObj

    }

    $report | Export CSV $csvfile -NoTypeInformation

    Thank you

    This should not be a problem.

    Have you tried the script from the prompt PowerCLI?

    Maybe stop/start prompt PowerCLI or the GUI where you start the script.

    If this doesn't help, I'm afraid, that I am at a loss
