  • VMware ESXi 4.1.0 and snapshot problem - no disk space

    Hi all

    We now have a big problem with our free space on the disk. We are using VMware vSphere (vSphere Client ver 4.1.0 and VMware ESXi ver 4.1.0):

    Our vm has 2 HDD (500 GB, 1 TB). Now we have only 20 GB of free disk 1 and several snapshot files. To remove the snapshot, we need more than 20 GB of free space (corect?). What we need to do more free space? We can move snapshot files from the first disk to the second disk?

    Thanks for any help

    concerning

    First of all, you can redirect your new snapshot on another store/disk as explained in this article "http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1002929".

    Secondo, you can delete snapshot older and smaller but not all together as explained in this article by Duncan Epping "http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2008/01/07/delete-all-snapshots/."

  • RMAN problem with disk space

    Hello

    Oracle 10g

    I create backup rman complete daily and my REDUNDANCY of RETENTION POLICY is set to 2, for example

    FORMAT of COMPRESSED BACKUPSET "F:\BACKUP_DB\DB_%d_%u_%s_%T" INCLUDE CURRENT CONTROLFILE AS BACKUP DATABASE;
    CROSS-CHECKING OF BACKUP;
    DELETE NOPROMPT OBSOLETE;

    My backup drive is 100 GB and now I don't have enough space for 2 backups. I do not have enough free space because Oracle first create new third backup and then with DELETE NOPROMPT OBSOLETE it delete first.

    Because I do not have another disk space I put new line in my script, rman - REDUNDANCY OBSOLETES DELETE = 1; i.e.

    DELETE NOPROMPT OBSOLETE REDUNDANCY = 1;
    FORMAT of COMPRESSED BACKUPSET "F:\BACKUP_DB\DB_%d_%u_%s_%T" INCLUDE CURRENT CONTROLFILE AS BACKUP DATABASE;
    CROSS-CHECKING OF BACKUP;
    DELETE NOPROMPT OBSOLETE; + / / I think that this is now not needed.

    Now, before that Oracle creates new backup removes the older. This in my opinion is not the best. This, I'll have to new two backups but Oracle erase the old backup before it create new backup successful... Another problem is that Oracle with DELETE NOPROMPT OBSOLETE REDUNDANCY = 1 deletions and my ARCHIVELOG files.

    What is your opinion?
    You have a better solution?

    Thanks in advance!

    Catch-22.

    You do not have enough space to contain 3 backups but you don't want to remove No. 1 after backup n ° 3 is finished.

    You can't have your cake and eat it too.

    Allocate additional disk space - for example cheaper storage or a network drive.
    Transfer the older backup to the additional disk space.

  • If I delete the backup of the Service Pack files to create more disk space, I have created a potential problem?

    Periodically, I use Disk Cleanup to create more space and speed up the startup time. Today when my computer is on, it took an extra long time but when I ran disk cleanup, the amount of space to win does not jive with the time it took to load. Then I pulled the top "Clean up System Files" and cleaning the my backup files of the Service Pack, I have everything to gain from 920 MB of space.

    Question: If I delete those, am I causing potential damage to my system?

  • How can I stop OE 'compress files to free disk space,'

    How can I prevent the notice OE ("compression of files to free up disk space"), constantly arise. I moved the cd, deleted files, shortcuts to files, etc., and I still get this pop up to compress files.  very annoying.   Help

    Have let you compact? Disk space is not recovered until you do. Let compact, you should not see the prompt again for 100 closures of OE. If you see more often, after the return. If not, read this.

    Why OE insists on compacting folders when I close it? :
    http://www.insideoe.com/FAQs/why.htm#compact

    About file Corruption:
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/IE/community/columns/filecorruption.mspx

    Compacting your folders periodically is a must to keep OE works fine and at some point, you may lose all your saved messages if you do not. When you delete or move messages, the space they used remains until you compact.

    Never touch anything until the compression is finished.* *.

    See:
    www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2

    With SP2, Automatic compaction in the background has been removed because of problems he has caused. Now, you will get a prompt to compact after 100 closures of OE, you need to do, and do not touch anything until it's finished. If you compact manually, at your convenience, this will also set the counter to zero. See this for more information:
    http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm#compact

    If you are fully patched, you will now see a copy of your dbx files copied to the Recycle Bin as BAK files. If something goes wrong when compacting, the messages can be easily restored from this backup. A compact manual resets also the counter in the back of the registry to zero now.

    For more information, see the information framed in red here:
    www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2

    To keep things running smooth and harden faster:

    Do not archive mail in default OE folders. It will eventually become corrupt and you may lose mail. Create your own folders defined by the user for mail storage and move your mail to them. Empty the deleted items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 300 MB, and also empty as is possible to default folders.

    And backup often.

  • Hard disk space problems

    I have a MacBook Pro three years, with a hard drive of 250 GB. I have about 28 GB of free space. Try to free up more space that I deleted a few thousand pictures from iPhoto are also in the picture. My photos on the hard drive space has decreased about 5 GB, but the space allocated to the 'other' has increased by a comparable amount. Why?

    I don't know but I would download and run Omni DiskSweeper. It can help you to sort out the problems of disk space and free space.

  • There is not enough disk space to download new messages.

    Please when Mozilla is going to permanently fix this problem.
    This limitation is stand to fully trust on Thunderbird.

    This information will explain why you have a problem of disk space.

    E-mail messages are downloaded to the Inbox e-mail account.

    The Inbox must be low or even empty number e-mail. The Inbox has been designed as an Inbox for mail and must therefore be used for this purpose read mail must be moved to a folder that is appropriate for the storage or deletion.

    If you have e-mail in the Inbox folder, and then move the appropriate folders.

    In the e-mail Pop accounts, emails are downloaded and stored in a single mbox file, one email after another in the order they have been downloaded. Keep the very large number of emails in a single file is a risk not worth taking. Where the ability to create new folders and Archives of old messages.

    If you email a few months, check them.
    Old messages should be archived by month and year, and folder structure should be maintained. This includes the folder "sent" that this folder can sometimes be allowed to get huge. Archiving Range old messages and creates files more small that uses less memory when opening.

    After removing the emails in appropriate records and archiving old messages, create a backup and then compact the folders.
    When you delete an email, from your point of view that it disappears eg: Inbox and reappears in the trash. In reality, it is always in the Inbox, "marked as deleted", so it is still using the space. When you compact this folder, these emails "marked as deleted" are entirely deleted, freeing up a space. If you do not compact on a regular basis, you run a risk of becoming of the corrupted file and losing everything in the file.

    Assuming that the compression went ok, create a new backup so that you have an up-to-date backup.

    Additionally, make sure that emails that you leave on the server are deleted after 30 days at least, so that you don't use space quota on the server. More download and auto Pop mail accounts delete the copy out of the server. I choose to leave them on the server for 30 days, so that between and regular backups on the server, I can retrieve all emails in case of problems.

  • Disk space recovery tools

    In the five years I had my Macbook Pro, I solved my problem of disk space by upgrading the hard drive: 256 G - > 512 G - > 1 T.  Now I need to replace it, and 1 t SSD are a little expensive for my taste.  So, I'm in downsizing mode, in order to get up to about 400 G of free space (from my current 800).  Are there good tools available that will help me find a) large files and folders, file b) unused and records and c) duplicate files and folders?  I was directed to Gemini, which seems limited to c), and it runs in the background, even as I type.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    If you search the Web for 'Mac disk space' (without the quotes), you will see references to several utilities that may help you.

    According to the details of your hardware, you might also consider a 'fusion drive,"which could give you the ability to a traditional disc with some of the speed of an SSD.
