VMware ESXi 4.1.0 and snapshot problem - no disk space

Hi all

We now have a big problem with our free space on the disk. We are using VMware vSphere (vSphere Client ver 4.1.0 and VMware ESXi ver 4.1.0):

Our vm has 2 HDD (500 GB, 1 TB). Now we have only 20 GB of free disk 1 and several snapshot files. To remove the snapshot, we need more than 20 GB of free space (corect?). What we need to do more free space? We can move snapshot files from the first disk to the second disk?

Thanks for any help

First of all, you can redirect your new snapshot on another store/disk as explained in this article "http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1002929".

Secondo, you can delete snapshot older and smaller but not all together as explained in this article by Duncan Epping "http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2008/01/07/delete-all-snapshots/."

  • Catastrophic failure Ox8000FFFF and running out of disk space on FACTORY_IMAGE (d :))

    Whenever I save my files to a disc, it is said that he has been completed successfully, and then later, I get a message that says Ox8000FFFF of catastrophic failure and I am running out of disk space on FACTORY_IMAGE (:)) IM Windows Vista. I'm not a novice in computers, I am a computer expert. When I pull my FACTORY_IMAGE folder, I don't know what are the files, so I'm aftaid of monkey with them. I deleted the old and useless files, but whenever I run the backup, I get the message of Ox8000FFFF of catastrophic failure later. I can only assume that the backup and running out of disk space on FACTORY_IMAGE are related. I've seen corrections on the Net for this problem, but I'm afraid to try them. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello

    Your recovery Partition was photographed on your hard drive during the production of your computer by the manufacturer for all of these reasons.

    1. to reinstall Vista from in the case of a failure of the system, based on individuals or the keys at startup.

    F10 or Alt + F10 or F11 are a couple of different manufacturers use sequences.

    You will need to ask your manufacturer for proper sequence.

    2. to make the recovery disks on if your drive hard breaks down, so that you can then reinstall the operating system on a new hard drive.

    Also ask them how to make records.

    Your D: Recovery Drive is should not be used for backups, defragmented, etc..

    Should be backups on an external hard drive or DVD; external hard drive preference.

    To resolve the problems that have arisen with the recovery D: Partition, you will need to contact the manufacturer of your computer to remove all that has been added to it.

    See you soon.

  • Best practices in VMWare ESXi 3.5 installation and deployment of VMDK u3?

    Hi all

    I'm about to implement virtualization on my business technology

    I've got these resources to be used by VMWare ESXi 3.5

    Dell PowerEDGE 2950 III

    • 32 GB DDR - II 667 MHz

    • internal 4 x 500 GB SATA 7200 RPM HDD (RAID 5) - I know that it's slow to host the VMDK

    • Internal USB slot on the motherboard (but not USB flashdisk?)

    Dell PowerVault MD3000

    • 10 x 300 GB SAS 15 k RPM

    • 2 x Dual port Gigabit Ethernet NIC (x 4 in total)

    • iSCSI - 2 x Gigabit Ethernet for the switch (mute not to VLAN)

    I wonder where I should install the VMWare ESXi? for the VMDK, I believe that the deployment in the SAN is the right place.

    and any suggestion for the use of the SATA HARD drive internal?

    any comments would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    You mean Deployment.jpg diagram?

    In this case, there is an error.

    You need a network 2, not 4.

    Each controller and each NIC (on ESX) must have an IP in a net and another IP in the second NET.

    ESX guests 4 targets, 2 in a net, 2 in the other.

  • OpenManage for VMWare ESXi has no possibility of tasks of virtual disk

    OMSA v 7.1 and 7.2 for Windows (and earlier versions) allow the user to perform many tasks on virtual disks, including reconfiguring - expand a RAID array with a new drive.

    This is not true for managing open for VMWare ESXi - although you can monitor the status of the RAID and disks with the browser of the OMSA interface type, you cannot perform tasks - can not even make a high beam Flash.

    It is a huge problem, because the PERC controllers (H700 and H800, for example) don't allow you to develop virtual using hard drives not Dell disks when you try this during startup in the bios.  (These controllers only allows you to create new virtual disks using drives not Dell).

    This test was conducted using the latest firmware (12.10.4 - 0001 A10) and drivers for the H700 and H800 and multi-server r610 ESXi 5.1.

    Other people with VMWare have been affected by the present?  The only solution is to have two player networks connected to the computer, and create a simple Windows with OMSA, boot in Windows Server to expand the table using OMSA for Windows.

    I would be interested in the comments of others, including those of Dell.  We spent hours on the phone with Dell; This seems to be the only solution.  (Yes, Dell released a firmware version last year that has ceased blocking non Dell readers, but it only works for the creation of a new virtual disk, do not expanding one existing).

    Yes.  It came through a discussion in the Dell | Servers | Discussion of the RAID community.

    en.Community.Dell.com/.../20263442.aspx

    There is a CD bootable linux called OMSA Live that you download from PowerEdge (linux OS) systems management.

    This OMSA PERC H700 and H800 control and allows you to do everything.  When you reconfigure the RAID and the PERC card starts the reconstruction, although it seems risky, you can restart under VMware and the reconstruction of the RAID continues on.  And you can analyze with OMSA for VMware.

  • Question of partition: partition and narrower than the disk space

    Hi, I have a big problem with OS X El Capitan 10.11.3.

    I used to have a Windows partition with bootcamp which I deleted via bootcamp, but it crashed.

    I lost all my partitions and even os x. I have therefore started in recovery mode and launched disk utility, I could not create a partition OS X 90Go on my 120 GB SSD, and I installed OS X on it. Once installed, I have tried to maximize the size of the partition in disk utility to the actual size of the SSD, but it wouldn't work. Worse still, it actually shows my OS X partition a 60 GB instead of 90... (we also say that change log has not been activated, I allowed him but nothing happened)

    How can I make my OS X partition as big as my SSD?

    Here are some pictures of the utility disc and occupied disk space.

    Try to launch the Boot Camp again to see if it will delete the partition. It acts like it doesn't have.

    Hello

    I don't see what your problem is, as you're singling out a piece of data, the program (x 86) files on which is placed on your hard drive.

    Where do you think that Windows 7, etc is installed?

    It is installed on the C: drive and also takes place on it.

  • Failed to remove snapshot due to disk space

    Hello!

    I tried to delete a snapshot in 10 workstation, but it failed because I ran out of space - fair enough, BUT he DID remove the snapshot icon.

    Now, I have freed disk space in order to remove the snapshot, but how can I do when the icon is missing?

    I can't just clone the virtual computer to a new place because I need other snapshots!

    I have about 20 shots then how do I know which one it is?

    Best regards

    -Morten Hermansen, Fanitas Green

    I found the same thing. It is not a good behavior of the software, because it leaves doubts: it is not deleted, but how can I remove it?

    I think that if it fails it should leave the icon to try again after you free the space.

    Is a possible workaround: create another snapshot, and then delete it somewhere inside the machine snapshot tree.

    For what I could see by looking at the disk space, after this deletion, the used space is lower than before the creation. I guess this operation triggers the actual deletion of the snapshot has disappeared. In addition, this deletion takes a long time, all in one

    'create and delete soon' should be very fast.

  • RMAN problem with disk space

    Hello

    Oracle 10g

    I create backup rman complete daily and my REDUNDANCY of RETENTION POLICY is set to 2, for example

    FORMAT of COMPRESSED BACKUPSET "F:\BACKUP_DB\DB_%d_%u_%s_%T" INCLUDE CURRENT CONTROLFILE AS BACKUP DATABASE;
    CROSS-CHECKING OF BACKUP;
    DELETE NOPROMPT OBSOLETE;

    My backup drive is 100 GB and now I don't have enough space for 2 backups. I do not have enough free space because Oracle first create new third backup and then with DELETE NOPROMPT OBSOLETE it delete first.

    Because I do not have another disk space I put new line in my script, rman - REDUNDANCY OBSOLETES DELETE = 1; i.e.

    DELETE NOPROMPT OBSOLETE REDUNDANCY = 1;
    FORMAT of COMPRESSED BACKUPSET "F:\BACKUP_DB\DB_%d_%u_%s_%T" INCLUDE CURRENT CONTROLFILE AS BACKUP DATABASE;
    CROSS-CHECKING OF BACKUP;
    DELETE NOPROMPT OBSOLETE; + / / I think that this is now not needed.

    Now, before that Oracle creates new backup removes the older. This in my opinion is not the best. This, I'll have to new two backups but Oracle erase the old backup before it create new backup successful... Another problem is that Oracle with DELETE NOPROMPT OBSOLETE REDUNDANCY = 1 deletions and my ARCHIVELOG files.

    What is your opinion?
    You have a better solution?

    Thanks in advance!

    Catch-22.

    You do not have enough space to contain 3 backups but you don't want to remove No. 1 after backup n ° 3 is finished.

    You can't have your cake and eat it too.

    Allocate additional disk space - for example cheaper storage or a network drive.
    Transfer the older backup to the additional disk space.

    3. can you multiple access by 5.5 ESXi host the same data store (located on a San) vmfs using the free version of ESXi 5.5?
    Can I use this in a production environment? I have seen some companies test this on a non-production environment. Technically, it works.

    Thank you
    Paul

    Welcome to the community-

    (1) as long as the DRS HA cluster hosts see data even warehouses there will be no problem

    (2) once more, also longer than the nose can see data warehouses including the LUNS as the RDM it home should be without issue.

    (3) Yes multiple instances of the free version of ESXi can access LUNS shared - Yes it can be used in a production environment, but remember you can not handle the free hypervisor with vCenter.
