Long-range WiFi network

Hello

I would like to know if this is possible with some Linksys router or extender to increase the WiFi coverage by adding an external antenna (parabolic style) and to what extent it would provide coverage if the antenna 24dBi.

If you have another recommendation and a sketch on how to install this would be great.
I am open to buy another router, if necessary, but need advice. Models, etc...

The main objective is for Wifi to a building that has a large wired connectivity and to provide WiFi to approx. 500 m to 1 KM range in one direction as the Earth is long enough.

Please advice!

Thank you

Sylvain

Hi scorney. I suppose it would be possible but applies only with routers that have external antennas. I read somewhere that if you have an antenna 24dBi it can provide up to 8 miles from the beach. You can also check this link: http://www.simplewifi.com/parabolicgrid.html?sl=EN

This is how it should be intalled on a wireless router. I also recommend the Linksys WRT1900AC and Linksys EA6900.

I hope this will help you.

If you want to make sure that you will be able to get the Apple support in case of problems or questions with your backups, you must use the wireless Time Capsule to back up your Mac.

As long as the time Capsule provides a wireless signal, you can decide who to your 'main' network, then use it wireless Uverse for "guest", or children. If you do not need the Uverse router/modem wireless at all, it is possible to turn off wireless on the device and make it work only as a support modem/router...with Uverse wired.

At this point, you can start thinking about how you want to configure things and get back in touch if you need some advice on how to do it.  We need to know what operating system that uses the Mac that you normally use to administer the time Capsule, provide good instructions, if you need it.

  • Never connect some WiFi networks...

Sometimes, when you are traveling I'll find myself looking to take advantage of the wifi airport... about 50% of the time my mac connected without problem. The rest of the time he is there right and acts like it is connected but nothing never loads in the browser.  This happens only on wifi networks that require some sort of "disagreement with the terms" screen or a paywall.   If I leave everything and restart then sometimes it fixes, but not always, and it's a terrible solution.

Anyone know why this kind of thing happen?

If you connect OK 50% of the time, then you are doing very well.

AirPort WiFi networks are often overcrowded with too many users trying to use the same network at the same time. In this case, the result is slow... or not... connections. Nature of the beast, I'm afraid.

If you belong to a club of the airline which offers separate private space for its members, the WiFi in these areas almost always works fast and reliable.

One thing that might help a little... is to remove from the list of networks that your MacBook has signed in the past, allowing him to quickly find available networks when you need a connection.

Open System Preferences (gear on the dock icon)

    Open Network

Click Wireless on the left to highlight Panel

Click the Advanced Options button at the bottom right of the window

Here you will see a list of wireless networks that your MacBook is connected to in the past

Click on the name of a network that you no longer need to highlight

Then, click on the - (less) button at the bottom of the list to remove this network

Do the same for all the other networks that you no longer need

Click OK at the bottom right of the window

Click apply in the next window that appears

Close the windows and then restart your MacBook

  • OfficeJet 6600 connects to the wifi network

    Hello

I bought an Officejet 6600 and effortlessly connected to my wifi network, print and scan for a day. And there are two days that he stopped conntecting to the wifi network. In the meantime, our router turned off and turned back on. That's the only difference.

First of all, the printer would not even detect the wifi network. I solved that by changing the configuration of the router (Cisco 3925 EPC) and passed under the Setup wireless "Wi - Fi protected setup" to "manual". I can now see the network on the printer again.

But after that I've selected my wifi network and enter the WPA password, the printer tells me that the network connection is impossible. I printed a page of diagnosis, which told me that the problem is perhaps related to the MAC filter. But I have no MAC filters. I also tried to pass of WPA/WPA2 to WPA only, but that doesn't change anything.

I also tried to set the mode wireless via the USB cable, but no avail. Everything seems to work, until the moment when he tries to connect to the wifi (screen with 'configuration' with the large antenna and pulses of radio waves).

Should I give up and bring it to the store? I'm getting desperate!

Thanks for your help in advance,

    Raphaël

OK, to make sure I understand - the printer connects effectively to your wireless network, and well it works for a while once the printer goes to sleep, your computer or router may not wake.

If this is the case there are a few things that we can try:

    1. in the settings of your router, make sure that the multicast is enabled.

    2. set the 2.4 GHz router to 11 channels.  I know it sounds weird, but please try.

    3. set an IP address of the printer:

-Print a the front of the printer Network Setup Page. Note the IP address of the printer.
-Enter the IP address in a browser to reveal the internal settings of the printer.
-Choose the network tab, then wireless along the left side, then on the IPv4 tab.
-On this screen, you want to set a manual IP address. You must assign an IP address outside the range that the router sets automatically (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') 250
-Apply the subnet 255.255.255.0 (unless you know it's different, if so, use it)
-Enter the IP of your router (on the Page of the Network Config) for the gateway.
-Enter for the first DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for second DNS. It's Google DNS. You can choose a different external DNS if you wish.
    -Click 'apply '.

Now, stop the router and printer, start the router, wait, and then start printing.

  • Installation of a long range internet adapter Alfa

I have a desktop computer HP Pavilion Elite Quad Core with 8 GB RAM, etc, etc... It is very nice.  I just moved to an area where the built-in adapter is not strong enough to pull in the wireless signal, so I bought an Alfa long range adapter that works perfectly.  While I have the correct configuration, I just need to know if I need to disable or uninstall the internal wireless network adapter if it comes into conflict with the new long range adapter, or will they play nice and automatically default to the new card?  Currently when I open network connections, I see a Local Connection 2 (network cable disconnected) network, A Wireless Network Connection 3 (he is my long range adapter Alfa (RTL8187), A Wireless Network Connection 4 (Wireless PCI Card (not logged in - I guess that's my built-in adapter) and a network 5 wireless connection (Microsoft Virtual MiniPort).))  I now have a wireless connection, but I assure you once for all that what I see is what I should see and no conflicts that can slow down my connection.  Help?

There is no need to uninstall or disable the radio factory, if there are no networks in range. However, just to be safe, you can disable it in Windows Device Manager.

  • WiFi networks fall too often

    Hello

This drop router often 2.4 or 5 GHz WIFI networks.
When this happens, none of my devices (5 of them, including IOS, Android, Windows and MacOS) can't see WIFI networks.
the 5 GHz range falls more often than the 2.4 but the 2.4.
They are never at the same time.
Finally, it is, randomly or if I reboot the router.

I also noticed that I always see 2 networks of comments that I put in place. Those who never fail.

    Wired connections also abound.

When I connect to the router config page (URL or via the application engineering) the router shows no errors. In the router settings section, the two WIFI seems to be shown as being active (there is a button refresh here, but I don't know what he does)

I already have RMA Router 1 times since last November, but the problem never went away.

I'm getting really disappointing with this brand now.

I hope that I'm not the only one in this situation and that Netgear will do something about it.

In the meantime, my brother wanted to buy a new router and I have already told him to stay away from Netgear.

I used routers of the airport for a few years now. I upgraded my main router at a Time capsule and my old Airport Extreme and Airport Express works online as sub routers to keep the good signal throughout my home. All work well, but I always have what is the former name of wifi in wifi settings and would like to delete it so that it shows only the new name of the wifi network and the network of comments.

  • Time Capsule backups causing TC no longer provide Wifi

I had problems in the past two months where my wifi log throughout the day.  I kept resetting the modem and my wifi back upward.  The problem persisted for two months and I decided to get a modem separate upstairs and one downstairs help regulate the number of devices hitting the time capsule.  So now my workhorse is the netgear router and the TC feeds only my work laptop and my desktop mac.  Problem is that I kept getting disconnect it every day.

What I've deduced, it's that the TC provided is no longer the wifi during a backup.  Remember I have only two computers connected to the TC Cap now and I use all have in the House works with the TC before the upgrade to El Capitan in October... now he can't manage two computers as well as a backup.  So I buy Scheduler backup for Time Machine for backups occur in the middle of the night, when nobody used internet, wifi was still down from the TC... don't forget the netgear router has not had a single problem supporting 15 other devices in the House.

So now I'm at a lost what to do.  I bought two for home internet plans, I have two great modems and a Netgear router and the TC, TC is the only thing sent me disconnection problems.  The light of TC continues to show all time Green even if it doesn't provide any WiFi... again whenever the TC made a backup, wifi is no longer just the TC... and once again it has NEVER HAPPENED before until the upgrade to El Capitan in October... assumes that when the last successful backup has been made for the TC on the eve of the upgrade to El Capitan

I guess the problem is clear... El Crapo has terrible networking.

To knock out the other computer is possible only by overloading the wireless... Although this sounds like there is a problem with the TC as well.

I need a few specific data.

This modem do you have? Brand and model please... as well as more information, if it is a door, so I know what it is in the way.

What model is the TC? Can you give me the basic model for flat... A1xxx... or just say that you have a type of Tower AC... who has still no alternative. You have not specified, and it is vital Info for what is the problem... and how old it is? If it is still in warranty period of one year that you might as well go back to apple to replace. If you have applecare is also covered and you should ring apple and explain your problems... He comes to them after all.

What did you do to fix it... other than discharged of all the other stuff to the Netgear. You factory reset the TC for example? Tell us what troubleshooting you did.

I like the feature to be on a Bluetooth device (in the car) and stas unlocked phone

But what about when we are at home or at work, on a specific WIFI network? We might have this feature of this situation?

I know that the bike will do things like reading the messages in 'at home', but this one is measured by GPS, funny, which is a little vague.

Interesting idea - I guess the only problem I see is that it could be unpredictable

-reliable bluetooth has a range of less - so trust is close to you. The object must also be involved, and there is more security because even 2 of the same BT objects require different pairings

-Wifi has a range - you could curl upwards with a much larger radius of the unlocked device then you expect and someone could usurp wifi (same SSID and parameters) and possibly force an unlock when you do not expect.

Not that someone could not force an unlock with BT if they got your BT device. Not that I'm against the idea - in fact, I like it. I would like to just to ensure that it was not less then ensure the authorized device BT

  • Photosmart 7510: Access to the separate wifi network printer

I have 2 wifi networks, for the expansion of the range in my house; We built my router (Fios) fios and others (Asus) connected to the same router via ethernet.  My printer is connected to the wifi Fios network.  When I'm at the back of the House, I connect my laptop to the Asus wifi network but am unable to connect to the printer.  Is there a way to make the printer visible on both networks?

    Hi @lsrothstein,

    Welcome to the HP Forums!

I see you're wondering if you can access the printer HP Photosmart 7510 of several networks at once. I'm happy to answer that question for you!

The printer is designed to work only on wireless at the same time. So to be able to print to the printer, the cell phone/mobile device must be connected to the same wireless network to which the printer is connected to. think of it as an invisible cable from the computer to the router, to the printer.

This website, HP Wireless Printing Center - basics wireless, goes into great detail, if you are interested.

Hope that answers your question and have a great day!

  • How can I install my laptop to connect to a WiFi network instead of my default dial-up line?

    Hello...

I have for the implementation of many laptops for a Webinar tomorrow morning; but at least one of these computers keep trying to connect to its range of dial-up default instead of local WiFi Hotspot.

How can I get this laptop to connect to the WiFi network?  It's an operating system XP, with IE-8.

  • restrict the physical size of the wifi network

    Hello

I intend to cover the building 80x80m by the amount of 1131AG APs and WLC4402 controller. But the strong demand of the customer is to physically restrain the posibilities of the long distance wifi connections (100 m and more building).

Is there a function in wifi Cisco to drop connections incoming in case if the customer is 100 + m AP? (I mean that the power of the customer is high enough for this)

What are the regular methods of resricting the physical size of the wifi networks?

    Thank you.

Someone could be more than 100 meters away using a parabolic grid antenna, and the signal strength is perhaps not different from your regular users.

You can try using the location device, but I think that even this might go a little goofy, if someone tries to spoof a MAC address.

  • I'd like to find the password to let someone from another computer using my wifi network?

I can no longer leave someone visiting my house to my WiFi network because I can't find the password.  I don't know how to reset the password either.  Help! I have a lot of family who visit with computers.

If you have a wireless device running Windows 7 that can access your wifi connection, click the icon wireless in the notification area. Right-click on the name of your wireless network, and then click Properties. On the Security tab, check the box "Show characters" to reveal the password. If you have never changed the password, it will probably be printed on a label on the router.

To reset the password of your router, you must locate the manual for it. He has been provided by your ISP, their website will have details.
