Looking to replace my Dimension 3000. Recommendations?

Hi people and this is my first post here.

Bought my D-3000 in 2004 and he faces with Netscape running through a dial-up connection, but now he has more and more evil in a wide band/Flash/multitasking world... especially when I mix raw video in WMV and then decide to have a surf while it is underway!

I am very attached to my PC and an another Dell which is faster and more powerful, but retains the good points.

More important, decent room in the case for 3 hard disks and an installation disk for the operating system so that I can have a multiboot environment.

I gave my Dell a helping hand with a BIOS upgrade and more of RAM--but nine is enough good will and it can't last forever. So, I'm wondering which way other D-3000 users traveled in their upgrades.

Hi Sonic_Hawk,

Yes, Dell computers come with a hidden partition that contains the OS image and can be used for the system of factory reset. You can also create the media recovery disk and drivers. Alienware Aurora R4 is able to contain 4 HARD drives.

You can set the dual boot, however, Dell would be able to support the factory-shipped operating system.

Answer please if you have any other questions.

  • Replacement dimension 3000 monitor

Hey.  The monitor that I use is dead.  I went to the Dell website to look for a replacement screen, but the site does not suggest any specific monitors for my model.  Also, there are a lot of choices and I don't know which ones would be compatible with my computer.  So if you could suggest a monitor or two that would work with my Dimension 3000, I'd appreciate it.  Thank you

The 3000, unless you have a video card with a DVI output, requires a monitor that accepts a "VGA" input

The available screen resolutions may be limited, so with more new monitor you buy, you may not be able to respond to the 'native resolution screen', but this isn't a problem.  I do not use the native resolution on my monitor as it makes the print too small to read.

Here is a 20 "(type de LED) monitor that works because it uses a VGA input. "    There are many other works, depending on how big a monitor you want and how much you have to spend for one.   New "LED" (backlight) LCD monitors are the latest models and types of LEDS are supposed to last longer and be more energy efficient.   Other brand monitors will work just as well, make sure just that it will work with VGA input.

  • Replacement of a card mother Dell Dimension 3000 with a Dimension 4600 motherboard

Recently I replaced my processor in my Dell Dimension 3000, however, at the start he always tells me that the processer is not supported by the Bios, so I still have to press F1 to start upward. I heard you can counter this is replacing the Board with a Board of a Dimension 4600 however, I know not what condition the Board of Directors must be in. Can I replace it with a Board of direct administration of a Dimension 4600 or what I need to get a referbished or the new Board of Directors?

    scprokop

A work of a Dimension 4600 motherboard can be used, provided it is in a usable state.

As the Dimension 4600 is obsolete for many years, I doubt there is very no new motherboards available, only the so-called "renovated" boards, which are 'pull system '.

  • The Dimension 3000 processor upgrade

I want to improve my old dimension 3000 D325 celeron processor equipped with a pentium 4.

When I looked in the Dell user manual it says that the best processor I can get is a pentium 4 at 3.2 Ghz with hyper thread.

When I looked at the site http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel _ (chipsets) 865GV.html it says I can put a 3.4 Ghz! and the list of the processor is much longer.

Is there anyone who knows if I can use a pentium 4 3.4 GHz, 1 MB L2 cache with hyper threading?

    lingophi

    Either the Socket 478, P4 3.2 GHz or the 3.4 GHz P - 4 will work.

Before you replace the processor, verify that the BIOS Version A03 is installed, when adding support for the latest processors has been added.

  • Dimension 3000 ide cables

    Hi all!

I have a Dimension 3000, with a 3 GHZ P4 which seems to have been built in the second half of 2004, running Windows XP Home Edition.

I want to move to a Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 hard drive 250 GB and replace the DVD, (it seems to be failing), with a DH20A4P Lite-on.

To my inexperienced eyes, it looks like this pc comes with 40 40 son/way points ide cables.  What I have to, or I, should replace those with wire/40 pin 80 way cables?

    Best regards, John

With an older system like the 3000, you will only be able to use the old PCI interface for a video card.  These cards are more expensive and there is no reason to spend too much on an upgrade when dealing with older systems like that. Popular cards have been the 6200 Nvidia 8400 GS or the best 9400 GT.  Do not forget only the PCI interface.  No AGP or PCI Express.

I'm not sure what your goal is the upgrade, but don't expect too much.  I know that people have upgraded to these cards to play games like the Sims.  Your system is just old with old parties slow and he can't move much faster with a video card.  You have 3 PCI slots on the motherboard.  Put the card into the top slot of most and move all other cards down lower if installed.  You should probably disable your chart integrated through your device manager before installing a video card for it to work and make sure that the first video is correct in the bios.

  • How to disable integrated on the Dimension 3000 video?

I'll install a videocard ATI Radeon HD 2400 PCI in Dimension 3000 my son.  I will also be upgrading the RAM of the system with

2 GB (2 x 1 GB) DDR 400 (PC 3200).   How can I disable the video integrated on this system?  In addition, any "lessons learned" to do any update on this system would be greatly appreciated.                 Thank you, Jack

There is no way to disable the built-in manually video material.  The BIOS has two parameters of the video card; Auto and on board.  The last forces the use of the integrated video, the first is supposed to allow the BIOS to switch automatically to a PCI graphics card.

The first thing to do is to restart the computer, use F2 to the Dell screen to go to the configuration and verify that the BIOS is set to automatic in the video menu.  Allow the computer start and go into the Device Manager.  Find the Intel graphic card in the display section of maps, right-click to bring up its properties.  Go to the menu "Use" at the bottom and select "don't not use this device - disable.  Restart the computer to verify that you are now a standard low resolution (640 X 480) VGA screen.  This action forces the loading of the VGA driver so that when you install the actual card, you will be able to get a display.  Turn the machine off and disconnect all install them the card.  Remove all external devices except the keyboard and mouse.  The cable of the port monitor built into the port on the new video card.  Power supply and start the computer.

Let the computer finish starting.  You should be able to see the VGA display, as you did when the monitor is always connected to the onboard video port.  If you do not, something is not right.  Do not try to load the driver for the card, unless you can get a VGA display on it.  First thing to try if you see nothing is to pass the card in another PCI slot.  If that does not do it, remove the power of the computer and reset the NVRAM by removing the cell of the backup of the main card for about a minute.  Replace the cell, connect the power supply and start the computer.  If you still don't see the VGA screen, you should try another card.  Some of the older Dells did not get along with ATI cards.

If you see the VGA screen, put the diskette of drivers for the video card in your CD ROM drive and install the driver.  I guess the drive of ATI's NET software framework on it; This software is necessary before you can install the driver.  I hope that your installation manual includes the details.

  • Format own dimension 3000

I have a Dimension 3000 that runs very, very slowly.  I took it to Staples for the free update and the tech recommended I have wipe the hard drive and restore the factory settings.

I tried to do the F11 process all that is is past is that the keyboard froze, so I asked the Dell.  The CD arrived with no instructions.

All data are saved.  All the extras are disconnected.  I used the Windows XP Home CD to reinstall the OS.  Many of the forums talk about create partitions, etc.  I've never seen nothing of all this.

The next step, I tried was starting from diagnostic CD to try to clean 1 k to reformat the hard drive.  My options correspond to those stated.

This is getting very frustrating.  I spent ten days and trying to correct the problem.  I guess my old Compaq had spoiled me - it came with a recovery CD set... 1, 2, 3... everything is done.

I'm ready to do what I have to put this computer back to factory settings.  Since the warranty has long term on I really need your help to get there.

I have another computer to continue internet contact while I work on the first.

    Thank you for your advice.

  • Dimension 3000 starts then dies

Hi, I have a Dell Dimension 3000 that starts and runs for about three seconds, then dies.  At this point, you will need to cut the power, plug before you will get no response from the PC. I swapped the power supply and disconnected all drives, network card and memory.

The four diagnostic lights turns on, a couple changes color, then turns off when the power dies.

I think that it's probably the motherboard or something on the motherboard. is it possible to narrow the problem, so I can buy the right replacement the first half?

Here is a short film of the lights during the power upward.

    Concerning:

"is it possible to narrow the problem, so I can buy the right replacement the first half?

Which is not always possible, unfortunately, while a person may make an informed diagnosis, sometimes, due to the complexity of the components, computer troubleshooting is diagnosis by substitution.

The power button LED, green, solid orange, green, orange, flashing flashing or off?

If you're comfortable working around computers, you can try the following:

Note: The only 100% POWER supply test method, is to install a known working power.

Unplug the power cord, hold the power button in for about 15-20 seconds, open the case, disconnect the power connector 20 pins on the motherboard and jumping the Green wire to one of the black wires, plug in the power cord and the power of the system, if the PSU, case fans and disk hard drive performance then the power supply can be good.

Note: Do not remove the wires from the plug, use a small piece of wire or a paper clip as a rider.

Extract supply and the system still does not work, yet once remove the power cord, hold button power in a few seconds to discharge residual power, reconnect the connector 20 pins on the motherboard.

Remove any PCI video card [as appropriate], memory cards, all the devices, unplug data cables and power to all readers, check that the cable from the front panel is connected to the motherboard, without anything else connected to the system, reconnect the power cable and power the system on.

If there is no difference in the diagnostic lights, a "Beep" codes and/or the indication of the LED on the power button, it would seem that the motherboard is dead or maybe the processor.

Note: The good news is, processors lack rarely, being the only method I know to check a processor, install a compatible work PC, or use a known job processing.

  • Legacy with defective power supply unit. Looking for replacement source

RND4000 (ReadyNAS NV + v1 [v3]) group legacy with a power failure. Looking for replacement source. Not after replacement free of charge since it is obviously out of warranty and end of product life. However, it is a little expensive Kit to replace. If I did, I would still want to use it as a backup of synchronization for the new.

I was unable to find any power supply corresponding by the name given to the unit (ST-220FUB-05F), all the results of my research resulted in a power different with smilar looks and namesake. Main differences are slight changes in the output rails, different output connectors. Also include a fan that mine didn't, perhaps a clue to the failure there.

I was shocked to find that he was / is none replaceable fuse in the power supply and if there was a gauge commonent that he was unable to do the job because a cracket big mosfet to clean his radiator, think that's what it is, hard to see in here. Unable to find a replacement, I'll have to try to replace the component that is visibly damaged. Not easy because it's crowded in there and may fail because there are perhaps other failing components that didn't explode or evacuate. I really need ot get this unit backup and running.

Help, please. Consider the purchase of an equivalent of second hand RND4000 for parts. See you soon.

    Hello EkDor,

This replacement of power supply was free until supplies last and I heard they already ran out of it.

If you have a "restore CD" the game that the BIOS so that the CD-ROM drive is the 1st device to start, followed by the hard drive. then power on the computer and "press any key" when prompted to start the installation.
