  • Replacement of a card mother Dell Dimension 3000 with a Dimension 4600 motherboard

Recently I replaced my processor in my Dell Dimension 3000, however, at the start he always tells me that the processer is not supported by the Bios, so I still have to press F1 to start upward. I heard you can counter this is replacing the Board with a Board of a Dimension 4600 however, I know not what condition the Board of Directors must be in. Can I replace it with a Board of direct administration of a Dimension 4600 or what I need to get a referbished or the new Board of Directors?

    scprokop

A work of a Dimension 4600 motherboard can be used, provided it is in a usable state.

As the Dimension 4600 is obsolete for many years, I doubt there is very no new motherboards available, only the so-called "renovated" boards, which are 'pull system '.

It is absolutely essential that any new module of RAM is fully compatible with both the motherboard and/or any other module of RAM already in the system.  In addition, there are sometimes jumper switches on old motherboards that need to be reset for new configurations of the RAM.  Consult the manual of your motherboard or the web site of the manufacturer for specific instructions and compatibility requirements.

If you can't get your hands on the manual of the computer and the manufacturer does not provide a support web site, you can use these utilities to help determine the right kind of RAM required:

In addition, memory Crucial (www.crucial.com) website has a database to help find the right RAM for your specific brand and model computer or the motherboard.  (By the way, Crucial is the only company I have ever buy RAM.)  I've never been disappointed.)

    Best regards, John

With an older system like the 3000, you will only be able to use the old PCI interface for a video card.  These cards are more expensive and there is no reason to spend too much on an upgrade when dealing with older systems like that. Popular cards have been the 6200 Nvidia 8400 GS or the best 9400 GT.  Do not forget only the PCI interface.  No AGP or PCI Express.

I'm not sure what your goal is the upgrade, but don't expect too much.  I know that people have upgraded to these cards to play games like the Sims.  Your system is just old with old parties slow and he can't move much faster with a video card.  You have 3 PCI slots on the motherboard.  Put the card into the top slot of most and move all other cards down lower if installed.  You should probably disable your chart integrated through your device manager before installing a video card for it to work and make sure that the first video is correct in the bios.

  • Question for Dell Dimension 3000 IDE connector

    Hello

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, but please be patient with me. I have a loyal Dell Dimension 3000, 2 GB RAM, P4 processor, 1x250GB HDD burners 2xDVD-R, 1x3.5in floppy drive hard.

My Question is how to be able to add a second HDD. I have no way to connect to one. The cable I have all what it connects to the current. There is no way with my current cable to connect a second HDD. I don't know what type of connector IDE cable I need or where to buy it, or if there is even an option to one.

I have the tray and extra HDD ready and waiting but no way to connect. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    John Briggs

The dimension 3000 will support two hard drives, but you will need support for additional hard drive and one connector three IDE 18 "L, 80-wire cable in water data, which is connected to the primary IDE hard drive and motherboard J6J2 PRI IDE connector, see page 38

Dimension 3000 second hard drive installation.

There are no instructions for the installation of a second IDE/EIDE hard drive in dimension 3000, but as the Dimension 4600 has the same case and chassis, you can use the 4600 instructions for the physical installation, see page 18:

    http://FTP.Dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_dimension_desktops/dimension-4600_service%20manual_en-us.PDF

Set the jumpers the second hard drive for "Cable Select" and connect it to the middle connector of the IDE data cable, which is attached to the main hard drive.

After you have installed the reader, enter the setup and make sure the hard drive is set to Auto [on].

To access the configuration, press the F2 key after a restart of the computer.

For the details of the system configuration, go to page 34, here:

    http://FTP.Dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_dimension_desktops/dimension-3000_service%20manual_en-us.PDF

Use disk management to partition, format, and assign a drive letter on additional hard drive after installation for Windows to recognize the hard drive.

  • Can dimension 3000, I start the CD RW?

I have 2 optical, cd/dvd drives and cd-rw but dvd player is broken, will not open. Can I use the cd RW? BIOS lists only the floppy, DVD and HDD. I tried tapping f12 when restarting with dell os disk into the cd rw drive, but she starts just xp hard drive.

It's the old pc I want to format, reinstall xp and puppy linux.

I've never done something like this before.  I hope that someohe can help!

You seem to have done the settings are correct, but the player does not seem to read your boot drive.  To try again, set the second master back to enabled, set the secondary slave off and physically move the connector at the end of the Ribbon to the broken car to the player who works.  Sometimes they have a failed drive on the IDE data cable prevents a good drive to work, so the only thing to do is to remove the bad drive.

Your problem may also have something to do with the disc you are trying to use.  Some CD/DVD players have trouble switching between the two formats when used to start the computer.  Also, remember that if the CD player is only he will not see anything on a DVD.  Windows XP Setup floppies are almost always a CD, but I seem to remember that the Media Center disc was a DVD.

I've never owned a Dimension 3000, but the Dimension 2400, which is roughly the same age could certainly start from a provided USB memory stick had the correct startup information.

EDIT: Went back and just reread your post and I see that I have mistakenly believed you had turned off the second master.  The primary master is your hard drive, that won't turn off!

  • Dell Dimension does not start in Vista after upgrade

A friend had a Dell Dimension E521 that won't start - has the missing file system\hal.dll.

As there was nothing on this computer, he needed, I rebuilt it install a new copy of Windows XP, used the upgrade disc closed for upgrade to Vista and ensured everything in its original package has been installed. Let him install the Windows updates at night and in the morning, after a reboot it indicated that there is an update available. I've updated that and restarted and he said there are only four more updates that memory on the video card. I've updated those, but now it does not start at the top.

I'm going through the boot process, but as soon as it is the screen black with the Microsoft Corporation and the (green?) bar he starts moving forward a very small amount, and then restarts. It comes up with the selection of Windows startup screen and I tried the secure boot and last good Configuration known without result.

I tried the original XP disc to do a repair, but this doesn't seem to work with Vista?

How can I recover a work computer or do I have to reinstall again?

Thanks for any help, that all the world can offer.

If you have installed Windows Vista good the first time that the hard drive should be fine however I would suggest running the Dell diagnostics just to be safe. To do this follow the instructions on page 405 of this document and perform extensive tests.

  • I have a Dell Dimension 3000 professional XP, and somehow, I don't (help and support) I can reinstall it? ORT

I have a windows XP Professional, somehow my help and support is no longer available. Can I reinstall?

"Not available" means that there is no entry for H & S in your Start menu or that there is such an entry but when you click you get an error message?

If you get an error message, what is (full without paraphrase text)?

If H & S is not displayed on the start menu, the first easy step is (assuming you are using the Windows XP Start Menu and not the "Classic" Start Menu):

    • Right-click on the Start button, and then select Properties
    • Make sure that the option "Start Menu" button is selected and click the button "Customize" next to him
    • Click on the "Advanced" tab
    • Scroll through the list and make sure that there is a check in the box for "help and Support".
    • OK your way out

If the box & assistance was already checked, see http://windowsxp.mvps.org/rebuildhelp.htm

Unfortunately, the article above requires that you have a Windows XP install CD, preferably with the same service pack that is now running on your computer.  It is unlikely that you have such a CD, so if you get to this point, please report it with the following information:

    • Which service pack is currently installed (right click on desktop and select Properties, if you do not know)?
    • You have any Windows XP install CD (not the same as "recovery" by the manufacturer CD)?
    • If you have an installation CD, what service pack is included on the CD?
    • Is there a C:\i386 directory on your hard drive?
    • Is there a C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 directory on your hard drive?

  • Dimension 3000 starts then dies

Hi, I have a Dell Dimension 3000 that starts and runs for about three seconds, then dies.  At this point, you will need to cut the power, plug before you will get no response from the PC. I swapped the power supply and disconnected all drives, network card and memory.

The four diagnostic lights turns on, a couple changes color, then turns off when the power dies.

I think that it's probably the motherboard or something on the motherboard. is it possible to narrow the problem, so I can buy the right replacement the first half?

Here is a short film of the lights during the power upward.

    Concerning:

"is it possible to narrow the problem, so I can buy the right replacement the first half?

Which is not always possible, unfortunately, while a person may make an informed diagnosis, sometimes, due to the complexity of the components, computer troubleshooting is diagnosis by substitution.

The power button LED, green, solid orange, green, orange, flashing flashing or off?

If you're comfortable working around computers, you can try the following:

Note: The only 100% POWER supply test method, is to install a known working power.

Unplug the power cord, hold the power button in for about 15-20 seconds, open the case, disconnect the power connector 20 pins on the motherboard and jumping the Green wire to one of the black wires, plug in the power cord and the power of the system, if the PSU, case fans and disk hard drive performance then the power supply can be good.

Note: Do not remove the wires from the plug, use a small piece of wire or a paper clip as a rider.

Extract supply and the system still does not work, yet once remove the power cord, hold button power in a few seconds to discharge residual power, reconnect the connector 20 pins on the motherboard.

Remove any PCI video card [as appropriate], memory cards, all the devices, unplug data cables and power to all readers, check that the cable from the front panel is connected to the motherboard, without anything else connected to the system, reconnect the power cable and power the system on.

If there is no difference in the diagnostic lights, a "Beep" codes and/or the indication of the LED on the power button, it would seem that the motherboard is dead or maybe the processor.

Note: The good news is, processors lack rarely, being the only method I know to check a processor, install a compatible work PC, or use a known job processing.

  • Dimension 3000 to Windows 7. Need driver onboard video

I've just updated my Dell Dimension 3000 desktop computer to Windows 7. After installation, window Device Manager indicates that the video controller device needs the driver upgrade. I tried to download the driver from the Dell support Web site, but Windows does not recognize it. Someone there has the same problem? Dell just introduced any driver that works with Windows 7?
    Thank you

You don't need a new video card, I just did after a Win7 update and it worked fine with the native video.  I can now go up to 1920 x 1200.

    The process of

    1. Download the driver located here. It's the Intel 82865 G Graphics Controller driver.
    2. When prompted, save the file to C:\dell\drivers\R106458.
    3. If you try to run the setup.exe file, you will receive an error message. It's okay (for now).
    4. Find the setup.exe file in the C:\dell\drivers\R106458 folder.
    5. Right-click on this file and select "Properties".
    6. Click on the "compatibility" tab and change the settings for "XP" (service pack 3)
    7. Now, go back to the file setup.exe in the C:\dell\drivers\R106458 folder and configuration file should work normally.
    8. When you are prompted, restart your computer.
    9. Go at the start > Control Panel > appearance and personalization > adjust the resolution of the screen.

You should now be able to adjust the resolution of your screen freely. This technique, although that not tested, could also run on older versions of Dell Dimension who encounter the same problem. I hope this helps someone else out there.

Accessories for this guy, Dave Panfili, is info on his page, I just found on the net.  FYI, I also changed the properties to "run as administrator" just to be safe.
