LR4 error reading of his cache of the preview, we need to stop smoking
I get the above message. Lightroom said he'll try to solve this problem, the next time that it launches.
I have to click OK and close the program. When I raise, I see the same message.
I'm using a PC w / Win7; I've updated LR4 with the 4.1 download recently so she can read the raw files of 5DMarkIII.
Julie, simply delete the folder the folder corresponding to your firm with Lr catalog Previews.lrdata and restart Lr. I'm sure this will cure your problem of 90%.

In the same folder that your catalog file is a subfolder whose name ends with Previews.LRDATA. Delete this subfolder. Do not remove your catalog file (whose name ends in. LRCAT)

Hello
Greetings!
Close to Lightroom.
Navigate to the location where the catalog is present (default value is within the pictures folder lightroom file)And delete the file previews.lrdata.
Note: do not delete the catalog with the extension .lrcat file.

In the same folder that your catalog file is stored in, there is a subfolder whose name ends with Previews.LRDATA. Delete this subfolder whose name ends with Previews.LRDATA. Do not remove anything else.

LR has encountered an error when reading the preview cache and needs to stop smoking.
I have the trial version of Lightroom 30 days. I was able to use it for a week, but the last weeks of 1,5 to 2, it was locked up and that gives this error message. How to solve the problem? And how to reset the free 30 day trial? I wish I had the time using the product before deciding on the annual contract.
"LR has encountered an error when reading the preview cache and needs to stop smoking. Lightroom will attempt to solve this problem, the next time it starts. »
Thank you.
Delete the cache of the overview of the Lightroom folder in your pictures folder if you used the default location. It has the extension .lrdata.
You cannot reset the trial period.

I see not to delete the cache of the preview, BUT I will lose all work
Hi kistah,
The error indicates that the preview cache has been corrupted, so she would get recreated himself as you start previewing images in Lightroom after you remove it.
You will not lose any work/changes by removing the cache of previews.
Just get rid of the .lrdata (not .lrcat) file

I use on Mac 10.10.3 LR4. My catalog is on an external HD LR (iOmega 1 TB) stops due to the "error in the reading of the preview cache and must stop."
I read on previous forums I need to delete the cache of the preview. I found this file (in the same folder that the Lightroom - the preview cache named catalogue ends with Previews.LRDATA.) and put it in the trash. HOWEVER, it will not erase. I get the message: "the operation cannot be completed because the item"LR4 catalogue on MacBkPro Previews.lrdata"is in use. Help!
I see this once in awhile on my Mac with other files where I can't empty a file out of the garbage with the same error message. For example, sometimes sound when I drag a photo to email to send to someone and then try to delete and remove the photo from the trash. Its not actually used, but it does not remove the trash. A COMPLETE computer restart is the only way to solve the problem. I don't worry about trash what is until I do a restart. This habit of can't do not until Yosemite is out and it is still happening in El Capitan. It is another example of the quality of Apple's OS fast downhills.

"Lightroom encountered and error while reading its preview cache and needs to stop smoking.
Earlier today when you import a session the computer froze. After manually shut down and restart I get this error every time I open LR, "Lightroom encountered and error during playback of sound preview cache and need to stop smoking" and the application does not open. He said LR would try and correct this error the next time I opened it, but the error remains. Help please!
Rename the folder "Lightroom 5 catalog Previews.lrdata" to "Lightroom 5 catalog Previews.lrdata.old"
Thank you

After having encountered an error, I followed a recommendationand delete my cache overview my catalog can't find photos. what should I do to get it back?
Hi moshek1955,
Greetings.
- If you only deleted the cache of the preview I doubt that there is a possibility of missing images.
- Please make sure you are in the right/most recent catalog.
- However if please check below link and follow the instructions.

I get a message saying Lightroom met an erorr when reading the preview cache and need to stop smoking. Then told that Lightroom will try to solve the problem the next time it starts. Never tried to uninstall and reinstall but no good.
Sound familiar to anyone?
Hello
Please go to the save location of the Lightroom Catalog and here please delete the Lightroom Catalog Previews.lrdata folder.
Now please open Lightroom and check if it works.
Please let us know if it helps.
