  Putting the family on the iMac and you get a large LCD with connection and a keyboard for the MacBook.  A drive for Time Machine.   Perhaps through one of the USB 3.0 docks that are available for the MacBook.  No data migration and no chasing of synchronization seeds, no pretense of the computer, without remembering where the latest copy of a file is, no dependency on storage cloud and without children entangled with office files or damage to the computer or data.   Otherwise, you're shoveling files and directories autour - and troubleshooting when it does not right - and even Apple is apparently to do this mix with people running OS X Server.

  It is not clear to me if you have a problem of storage on your iPhone or in iCloud. You can go to settings > general > storage & use of iCloud.
