LUN in the data store

someone knows how to get the Datastore LUN capacity... pls

You will need to get the MOR of a data store and you will be able to extract the ability as well as other attributes presented in the property: http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/vc-sdk/visdk25pubs/ReferenceGuide/vim.Datastore.Summary.html

You can also take a look at this health check of VMware script that retrieves information about the data among other things store in your infrastructure to your ESX/ESXi hosts and vCenter: http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-9420

  • Detach a lun using the data store name?

    All (or Luc lol)

    I am wanting to use the disc to detach function, but instead of passing naa.id, I wish I could pass the name of a data store already disassembled data store to get the id of the naa. I would also like to pass a list of hosts, rather than to all guests who tied it.  I watched Alan functions but its going to each host rather than being able to move from a specific host.

    I took a slap at him earlier, but I'm a little confused on how to do it.

    http://www.lucd.info/2011/11/25/LUN-juggling-in-vSphere-5/

    Any help?

    With a small change to the functions of Alan, you can use a parameter of VMHost.

    In there, you specify one or more ESXi servers where the data store must be dismounted and detached.

  • get support scsi LUNS for the data store?

    I've been delving into the different classes available to HostSystem.queryHostConnectionInfo () and none of the properties appear to contain the id of naa I see when I look at LUNS on an HBA.  How do you get to LUN support for a data store?

    Figured it out.  For anyone else who wants to know:

    I created two actions, one to return a hash of the id of naa-online data store object and another action to return a hash of the naa-online drive scsi id

    // actions
    //getDatastoresKeyedByLUN
    var o_diskHash = new Properties();

    for each (var scsiDisk in u_host.config.storageDevice.scsiLun)
    {
      //System.log("-> LUN: " + scsiDisk.canonicalName);
      for each (var dataStore in u_host.datastore)
      {
      if (dataStore.info.hasOwnProperty("extent"))
      {
      for each (var scsiDiskPartition in dataStore.info.vmfs.extent)
      {
      if (scsiDiskPartition.diskName == scsiDisk.canonicalName)
      {
      o_diskHash.put(scsiDisk.canonicalName, dataStore);
      }
      }
      }
      }
    }

    return o_diskHash;

    // getScsiDisksKeyedByLUN
    var o_diskHash = new Properties();

    for each (var scsiDisk in u_host.config.storageDevice.scsiLun)
    {
      o_diskHash.put(scsiDisk.canonicalName, scsiDisk);
    }

    return o_diskHash;

    // in workflow
    for each (var can in dstoreMap.keys)
    {
      System.log(dstoreMap.get(can).name + "(" + lunMap.get(can).canonicalName + ")");

  • Removal of LUNS in a data store

    I installed a new volume of virtual disk of three 2 TB (RAID5) SAS drives on our HP SAN. So I have 4TB as the disk capacity that LUN. Now I was ignorant of the fact that the maximum size of a data store for ESXi 4.1 2 TB - 512 bytes. So when I added this new 4 TB LUN to a store of data on ESXi 4.1.0, only 1.64 TB has been appearing as available as against 4 TB or 3.64 to capacity. Now, I want to delete this new LUN of this data store and return to the utility of HP storage to recreate smaller i.e. two 2 TB LUN management. However, the problem I have is, I don't know how to remove this new LUN in the data store to which I added this without losing data or a data store. In my case, I had a data store 300 GB to 1.09 and I added this new 1.64 TB LUN to this Datastore.But I want to delete this LUN data store. Thank you, Clément

    I'm afraid there is no way taken in charge to remove a measure from a data store. If you want to use the entire disk space, you must destroy the entire data store.

  • Visible data VMFS store on 3 of the 6 armies. 3 the remaining hosts see LUNS, status is mounted, but the data store is not visible.

    As the title suggests, all hosts see LUNS... can't understand the question. Here is a shot of the vmkernel.log captured from the server, as it was a new analysis (which translates into a loop of activity in the log file and hard + 10 minutes without change for storage).

    The SAN is preesnting LUN and successfully... so it must be on the host side. In an act of desperation, yesterday I reinstalled ESXi on a troubled host. He was able to see the data stores. Today, they were more visible.

    Thanks in advance for any help.

  • What is a relationship between the data store and LUN?

    Hello

    I added 3 LUNS to a data store, but I can't list them since the MOB data store. Could someone tell me how to do it.

    Thanks in advance.

    Lee

    LUNS was formatted as VMFS and created a data store? If not, it will not be displayed. You can search for available LUNS that can be used to create a VMFS with QueryAvailableDisksForVmfs volume

  • Cancellation of the assignment and reassign the data store by using different LUNS that datastore has not appeared.

    Hi all

    I have a data store after vdisk1 I have not assigned the vdisk to data store and reread the esxserver, the data store has disappeared.

    Again, I assigned the vdisk using the same number of logical unit as before and reread the esxserver, datastore appeared again return.

    But if I use a different assignment vdisk lun and on a new analysis of data store does not appear.

    Can someone tell me if the LUN must be even to see the store of data back again.

    If so why. ?

    Is there a vmware documentation to substantiate this claim.

    concerning

    Neela

    What do you mean by vdisk1?  The data store are stored as metadata on the LUN, when is formatted VMFS.  If you remove the LUN the VMFS is sitting on, then Yes, the data store will disappear.  If you only remove the vmdk who lives on this data store, then no, the data store must remain as it is, and you should be able to move the vmdk on the data store as needed.

  • local storage in the data store

    I have 4 ESXi 5.5 cluster nodes (host1, 2... 5) + 3par storage, I noticed that the local drive of host2 is detected as a data store.

    When I create a VM and I choose the data store, I can see all data related to my on3par LUN stores but it seems this drive local host2 too!

    I would like to remove it! Can you offer me please?

    You must hide hide this data store using permissions, you must run the following procedure: Open-> inventory-> warehouses vSphere-> select the select data-> permissions VMFS store-> click the user or group in the list and set them to 'No access' - are not propagated.

  • Target iscsi ESXI 5.0, active path connected, mounted, are not not in the data store data store

    HI -.

    I am looking for help to point me in the right direction.  This problem occurred after a reboot of the system.

    I'm in vmware esxi essentials 5.0.0 821926

    I use the starwind software as my iSCSI target

    I use ISCSI to connect to my server from storage to the esxi hosts.

    I have 2 warehouses of data showing inactive under clusters of data storage and the data store.  I have a third-party data store on the same server that is loading properly.

    I currently have the same behavior on three esxi hosts:

    under configuration - storage adapters is the ISCSI path is active. Data warehouses appear under devices and mounted.  In data warehouses, they are inactive. On the same storage server

    on the starwind Server - I have

    built a new target

    removed and added the databases to the new target

    Changed the IP address of the target.

    On Esxi hosts, I removed the ISCSI server, discover places BOF dynamic and static and added under the same or IPs news discovery

    I can restart esxi hosts & storage servers and get to that same point.

    Whenever I find myself in the same place - course assets, devices mounted, inactive in data warehouses

    I don't know what else to share, let me know what you need to know to help out me.

    Thank you

    Dylan

    OK, incase someone crosses my ramblings, it may help.  My original question was warehouses of data that would not rise.  They were visible as devices in the area of storage under devices and as devices in the scsi adapter.

    When I would try to force mount them, add storage, keep the signature, mount they wouldn't mount.  I did some research and my question was after a failed mount attempt strength as got data attached as snapshots warehouses.  I then mounted force them and he tells will data warehouses and I got them back.

    I followed this KB to identify and resolve the problem

    manipulation of vSphere detected as snapshot LUN LUN (1011387)

    When it was over, I tried to add vms back and found a new show.  Power of vms would expire.  the vmkernel.log showed;

    2014 05-27 T 07: 20:40.010Z [verbose 'Vmsvc' 564D7B90] Vmsvc: filtering Vms: ignored not ready to request power state vm vim. VirtualMachine:75

    I had latency huge read write showing upwards, 3K and more

    After several searches, I had in the ESXShell and found that there is no conflict of booking.

    On a whim, I took inventory all virtual machines that are now inaccessible.  I then added a DOS virtual machine. Alto! the latency down to version 1.2 a.7 ms for all data warehouses.

    ultimately the instructions said you may need to add virtual machines in the inventory, but does not remove all virtual machines first.  I was grabbing vms that were not in stock, so I didn't remove the old virtual machines in the inventory.

    Look at the code in this post: receive information from scsi to a data store if the data store is known

    I used that as a starting point for the following... I put this code in a script task and passed in a VC:HostSystem object named "wfHostObject":

    for each (var lun in wfHostObject.configManager.storageSystem.storageDeviceInfo.multipathInfo.lun) {
        for each (var path in lun.path) {
            if (path.state == "active") {
                // Get the mountinfo
                for each (var mount in wfHostObject.configManager.storageSystem.fileSystemVolumeInfo.mountInfo) {
                    if (mount.volume.hasOwnProperty("extent")) {
                        for each (var extent in mount.volume.extent) {
                            var tmp = extent.diskName.split(/\./);
                            var regExp = new RegExp(tmp[1],'gi');
                            if (lun.id.match(regExp)) {
                                System.debug("=========== Mount Name: "+mount.volume.name);
      System.debug("Type: "+mount.volume.type);
                                System.debug("Extent diskName: "+extent.diskName);
      System.debug("vStorageSupport: "+mount.vStorageSupport);
      System.debug("---- Mount Info");
      var mountInfo = mount.mountInfo;
      System.debug("AccessMode: "+mountInfo.accessMode);
      System.debug("Accessible: "+mountInfo.accessible);
      System.debug("Inaccessible Reason: "+mountInfo.inaccessibleReason);
      System.debug("Mounted: "+mountInfo.mounted);
      System.debug("Path: "+mountInfo.path);

  • Get the scsi for a data store information if the data store is known

    Hello

    I'm looking for a way to get the information of scsci for a data store if the name of the data store is known. In perl/powershell, this is not a big problem, but how to do this using the Orchestrator. It seems that some information is not available/accessible in vCO, as information volume.extent (object VcHostFileSystemVolume).

    For an example on how to do who, in powershell, see

    http://vwiki.co.UK/Datastore_to_LUN_Mapping_%28PowerCLI%29

    No idea on how to do the same with the Orchestrator.

    Concerning

    Thomas

    Hello

    Onyx would not help in this case. After thinking a bit, I found the solution. I looks like:

    for each {(var Mon in wfHostObject.configManager.storageSystem.storageDeviceInfo.multipathInfo.lun)

    System.Debug ("number of paths:" + lun.path.length);

    for each {(var path in lun.path)

    If (path.state == 'active') {}

    //

    Download the mountinfo

    //

    System.Debug ("mountinfo length:" + wfHostObject.configManager.storageSystem.fileSystemVolumeInfo.mountInfo.length);

    for each {(Mount var in wfHostObject.configManager.storageSystem.fileSystemVolumeInfo.mountInfo)

    If (mount.volume.hasOwnProperty ("extent")) {}

    for each {(measure of var in mount.volume.extent)

    var tmp = extent.diskName.split(/\./);

    var regExp = new RegExp(tmp[1],'gi');

    If (lun.id.match (regExp)) {}

    System.Debug ("mount.type:" + mount.volume.type);

    System.Debug ("mount.name:" + mount.volume.name);

    System.Debug ("extent.diskName:" + extent.diskName);

    }

    }

    }

    }

    }

    }

    }

    Ivo

    Try this one, it shows the actual number of "active" paths by the data store.

    foreach($esx in Get-VMHost){  $hss = Get-View $esx.Extensiondata.ConfigManager.StorageSystem

      $lunTab = @{}  $hss.StorageDeviceInfo.ScsiLun | %{    $lunTab.Add($_.Key,$_.CanonicalName)  }  $pathTab = @{}  $hss.StorageDeviceInfo.MultipathInfo.Lun | %{    $pathState = @($_.Path | Group-Object -Property PathState |    where {$_.Name -eq "active"} | Select -ExpandProperty Group)

  • Swapping hard drives for change/increase the size of the data store

    Hello:

    I have an ESXi host 4.1 with 2x146GB RAID1 array (datastore1), 4x300GB RAID5 array (datastore2).  I need more space so I intend to replace 2x146GB by 2x2TB.  I'll first move virtual machines from datastore1 to datastore2, then stop the machine, Exchange records and build the new table.

    • What I need to remove ESXi cfg datastore1. before you physically remove the drives, or will start ESXi gracefully and allow me to remove the data store?
    • I'll be able to add the new data store (2x2TB) to ESXi, ago, i.e. ESXi should see table once initialized on the machine?
    • Existing data warehouses have 1 MB block size max vmdk is 256GB.  I want the new data store to have the block size of 8MB so I can have more VMDK.  I think I can fix the block size of data store when it was created, are, i.e. the ESXi installation can have warehouses of data with different block sizes, are?

    Thanks a lot for the ideas you have!

    Bob

    1.) why not just delete the GUI data store before you remove the discs?

    2.) If your controller has the disks properly there should be no problem with their detection.

    3.) Yes, each data store may have a different block size. The block size can be selected when creating the data store on disk/LUN.

  • How to maintain the availability of the data store after the upgrade to ESXi 5.1 with the new IP address and the naming convention?

    How can we maintain access to the presented LUNS and VMFS data store after we improve the ESX in ESXi with the new naming convention and the new model of IP addressing?

    My back-end SAN EMC Clariion is VNX

    Thanks in advance.

    How are the hosts connected to storage systems. With FC HBA for example, there is basically nothing you need to do since the WWN will remain the same and so LUN presentation of the zoning on the switch and storage system does not need to be reconfigured.

  • The data store size is smaller than the virtual disk

    Just deploy a new installation of ESXI 4.1 rev3 on a new Dell PE R520 server with 4 disks 1 GB configured in a single Bay RAID5.  When I connect with vSphere and go to Configuration > it shows storage data store being just 740 GB.  However when I go to storage adapters and select the vmhba it shows the complete 2.73 CT of the RAID array that I need to use.  Nowhere I chose Go 740 for the size of the data store, so I don't know how it has been brought to this size.  If I try to delete and re-create 740 GB is the maximum I can create.

    What I am doing wrong and how do I create a data store that uses all 2.73 CT?  Screenshots are attached.

    Thanks in advance,

    Ben

    4 ESXi does not support LUNS > 2 TB.  Any increase on a multiple of 2 TB, it's what you'll see (e.g. 2.73 TB - 2 TB =.73 to ~ = 740 GB you see).

    But the real question is why you install version 3 year of the hypervisor?
