  I recently bought a new HD to replace the original that my laptop takes an hour to load.

  I put the new drive hard at in the BIOS setting, I chose to boot from USB... USB is recognized as it appears on the screen of the BIOS. I disabled the LAN option as it gives me PXE error... I think that the USB files are not read. as I handed the old HD and attached to boot from USB but it just goes to the start screen.

  I thought that perhaps I bought the wrong HD, but a new appeared on the BIOS setting... I'm a bit confused and would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction...

  Any help or advice will be appreciated.

  New HARD drive has nothing to do with it. Problem must be your USB key.
  In your ad you didn t wrote what is on it, and we don t know if USB can operate as boot device or not.

  I put t know what OS you want to install right now but original recovery DVDs or use Microsoft installation disc and install Win7 32 bit. I ve installed on friends L300 and it works perfectly.

  The laptop would recognize the external hard drive as a SYSTEM (F 62.2 MB of free space of 97.9 MB, OS (GTB-free 1.11 of 1.35 TB and HP_RECOVERY (H 1.33 GB free of 11.0 GB.))) But I couldn't find the program I want to run.

  I went into the BIOS to set the boot order to boot from USB first, but I could not get the result I expected. The laptop still start on its own hard drive. I tried all three USB ports, no one works.

  Thanks for the quick reply v.

  It turns out that I had two different problems.

  (1) the external CD burner is not working. (I'm sure that it handles DVD properly because I can see the iso under windoze partition)

  (2) the USB key option had been formatted seems wrong - the default value is of this format read-only, which means that I couldn't burn properly .iso image file. I corrected withis with the command chmod 777, burned again and then the X 60 picked up correctly.

  Pelased so it wasn't a problem with my beloved maptop... Thanks again!

  I press ESC to the maximum power that I can get the boot menu, F1 works great, F2 works very well.  If I select F9 for boot options, for bios F10 or F11 to restore it goes back to the found boot device, hard drive (3F0) asks me to press F2 for the diagnosis of sys, the screen flashes. will not change.  No matter what I try, I'm stuck in this endless loop.

  Nothing I've tried has worked. However, I have finally managed to make it work has that.  I disconnected the battery for the bios for a bit. After that, I could get in the bios setup. Still would not start from a good bootable USB then I activated the Legacy and set the boot order to boot from an external USB Cdrom. Reinstalled windows 8 and all is good now thanks for all the comments!

  As far as I know it of not possible to boot from a USB HDD. I know that in some cases it of possible to start compatible USB FDD drives and CD/DVD but the HARD drive note.

  My laptop is messed up. I was able to boot into normal mode before I wanted to reinstall, but it got stuck frequently. The situation is now I can't boot in any mode, and it keeps saying no boot device.  I'm trying to reinstall using the bootable USB key. But still, it shows the error 0xc000021a and restarts again.   This could be due to the corrupted USB because it is not let you go beyond repair. Please create a bootable DVD such as suggested in the previous post by me.

  Windows 10 64-bit with UEFI can only boot from a GPT partition. It may be that your boot USB drive is partitioned as MBR [Master Boot Record] and should be partitioned GPT [Table of Partition GUID] for UEFI.

  Hi, I own a satellite pro A100 computer laptop. I tested a live distribution of linux which is bootable from a usb key. When I set the bios to boot from removable devices with my inserted bootable usb key does not start it and comes back to my installation disk hard windows.   To be honest I really don't believe it. Try to connect USB FDD and you will see that the FDD is recognized and you will be able to use it as first boot device.
